Massively uninformed post. You can hit 50-60 in 2-3 days. The campaign takes a few hours and afterward you get a team to run you through the first team challenge for one astral key, then you just rinse and repeat in Limbo every 20 minutes until you're 60. THAT is how people are 60, not the exp + potions. Most people have been smart enough to save those for alts. If you take someone into Limbo and follow the crowd tagging mobs, your exp bar fills so fast it's ridiculous. It's actually boring, no effort or challenge in it, but that's a whole other argument.

Point is, this isn't about selling exp potions. They're irrelevant when, without them, leveling is extremely easy. A few pieces of +exp gear, which is free and exp to find, will have you leveling even faster in Limbo than what I've already quoted. If you're not 60, it's because you're not doing it, whether you knew about it or simply chose not to participate (I stopped at 40 because it was boring, decided to level alts until more content is added to get me 60 instead), and THAT is why you're getting rolled in PvP.

Edit - to put it into perspective, I beat the campaign at 27 and grinded to 30 on normal dailies, feeling like it was going slow. Then I got into a challenge team and access to limbo. 3 days to go from 27-30. 5 hours to go from 30 - 40.

Glad we cleared that up. :)

Well Said!

That's how the world works whether the minority like it or not. The people who run the business side of the site don't care about your opinions until it gains or loses them money. That's obviously antithetical to those who are writing and reviewing games who instead are more concerned with whether a game is worth playing or not. When it comes to money, those who chase it will exploit anyone and anything to get it. This isn't news.

If you care to read the comments on that poor review, you would see that nobody agrees with him. Whiners need to learn to adblock if they are that thin-skinned.

I am not think skinned. I am using the site for informational purposes and part of that information is ads for the latest games. I just wish they had said some of the things they are saying now before the ad finished running, They certainly review games that have been running ads while the ads are still up. Neverwinter received alot of  MMORPG.COM press while the ads were up. Why not Scarlet Blade?

They're currently running tons of ads for Elsword and I don't think they've even bothered to review the game. You're coming to a website you're obviously unfamiliar with, with opinions on how it's supposed to work. Further, it's not as if they forced you to buy a game, Scarlet Blade is F2P. If you ended up spending money in the game based purely on some ad you saw on a gaming website rather than whether or not you actually like the game, then you've got bigger issues to work out.

I have read with interest the comments about Scarlet Blade from various columnists at MMORPG that have used terms such as shameful, disgraceful, debasing and couldn't agree more. What bothers me is that for more than a month the first thing you saw when logging into MMORPG.com were images and Ads for the very game they are NOW deciding is degrading to women.

I question why Bill Murphy etal did not post any of these comments while the ads were running. If the game was so disgraceful why did they wait until now to say so. Why not warn the public about what clicking on the ad on YOUR site will lead to?  I can only guess the motive was money. After all bashing an advertiser is a bad idea. However waiting until they have paid you and the deal is over to then bash them is hypocritical in the extreme.

I have used MMORPG as a news site for a long time and find the opinions and information here fairly even handed. This has made me second guess using them as my first source for MMORPG gaming opinion. The page itself is 25% advertising and that doesn't bother me. What bothers me is they seem to have decided that they don't comment on games that are being advertised if they don't like them or worse find them OFFENSIVE to nearly everyone who reviews them. If a game is that offensive warn your customers before they hit your ad link.

They knew what the game was like when they took the ads they needed the moral courage to say so. For the record I found Scarlet Blade Repugnant.

I am interested to see what Bill Murphy has to say about this. It is from a business point of view a tough call to make. I would like to hear why he made the decisions he did.

From your post count I'm guessing you're fairly new. They've covered this in columns in the past already; there is a separation between the ownership and business of the website itself and the writers who run it. They don't necessarily have control over the ads that are placed, there are people higher up the food chain that worry about that and yes, that will often contrast with what the writers and reviews actually feel about the games.

10 mill is dreaming. Skyrim sold as high due to more than its IP, people had also been waiting years just for some suggestion of a sequel to Oblivion and when they finally got it, they jumped on it in droves. Plus, they knew what they were getting. They also know with ESO, and that's not a good thing. It's not the same kind of game, so I don't know why you'd think people would play it anyway just because it follows the same lore structure. That they've changed their ad campaign suggests they agree, though at this point it's too late, the people they marketed to prior aren't going to forget anything. I'm sure you'll get some bleed, but the 10mill range is difficult for the majority of games, even the AAAs, you're being far too optimistic. Plus, once the game leaves NDA, it's going to be under worse attack than anything you've seen so far.

I'd give you half that number. Maybe.

what i always wanted to know is why do boobs offend people so much?

When MMORPG.com had an ad on the site that showed a pirate man with pubic hair showing, the gamer dude masses raged. If the game's aesthetics were reversed and had nutsacks on display, you and everyone else would be wondering wtf and 'offense' would be found in droves.

That's why it's offensive; not because it's tits, but because it's only allowed, because it's tits. If it's men, it's wrong, but if it's women, they're never naked enough. Yes, that is offensive.

I'd be willing to bet that this is how the majority of people play, and it's part of the problem. It used to be that people stuck with a game and built their reputation and community from within it, back when there weren't many choices. Now there are, and people don't stick around anymore, they leave to find something else or something new when the mood strikes them. I'm the same way. The people left behind are those that actually want what they preach, a 'world' instead of a 'game', but when they're left on dead servers because everyone else has moved on, they're the ones you see in the forums complaining about the state of gaming.

I'm not saying it's an easy problem or one I even know how to fix, if it even can be. A game will never be everything to everyone, and the choices we have in MMOs aren't slimming down any time soon. On one hand it's said people don't have that kind of dedication anymore to their choice of game and the people they meet within it, but on the other...it's just a friggin' video game, who gives a shit? Dilemma, dilemma...

Missing the point, Michael. $30 on two games that you get the entirety of, or $12 for just one character that's one part of the game. That's the complaint. By the time you spend the money to get the hero you like and the massive amounts of storage you need, you're set back quite a bit of money. If the hero you like is $20, let alone if you'd like more than one hero (because MMOs where you play as only one character forever are rare), you're set back even more. Before long you've spent 2-3 times as much as you'd have spent just dropping $60 on a normal game and getting less for your buck as well.

That is the complaint. Not what it is up front, but what it becomes overall. Not what it is now, but what is bodes for the future. These are things people are concerned about, even if they aren't articulating it quite properly.

I personally am enjoying the game but I won't be spending money beyond what I have already (on a starter pack to get Jean, one of my favorites) because of those prices. Were they more reasonable, I'd have dropped $100 or more getting my favs and some costumes, but because of what they're asking, I don't feel like I'm getting a good value for my money. That's my personal opinion, and as its my money I am very much entitled to deciding where it goes, if nothing else.

Guild Wars 2 and The Secret World are your best bets. Neither game requires typical grinding, and while at endgame you can choose to grind for more powerful equipment, in neither game is it essential. TSW and GW2 endgame gear doesn't differ hugely from much easier to find gear, and provided you can play your characters well, will still enable you to play competitively while casually working toward better things.

Grinding is a component of every and all MMOs, and always will be, but those two are the only ones around that have made it a casual grind, one you don't have to rush and play non-stop for.

You start the game with either Storm, Thing, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye or Daredevil. After the tutorial, you get another hero from that same list, though I'm not sure if it's random or dependant on who you first chose (I chose Storm, got Thing after tutorial quest). From there, heroes and costumes have a chance to drop from bosses.

Ya people talking a lot of crap about it, but I'm enjoying the hell out of the game and so is everyone I get to play with me. I've been having far more fun with it than I did in D3, and got Cable as a drop before the game went down so I have someone new to level. Taken Scarlet Witch and Storm through the campaign so far, still want to play it more. Something about huge swarms of enemies and phenomenal cosmic power that never gets old.

Bringing back all my love of the Ultimate Alliance games ;-; Now if they could just adjust the prices of the cash shop....

edit = some of your comments remind me why I facepalm every time I come to this site. When people say its better than D3, they're not talking about the effin' graphics or aesthetics, they're talking about the GAMEPLAY. Anyone can throw dead bodies and blood on a wall, by your logic that makes those games comparable to D3 regardless of what they are and how they play. MH is an ARPG made by the dude which, btw, is the origin of Diablo, if you can't see how this bears comparison between the two games, you're all just being stubborn and don't deserve the time it takes to type a response in the first place.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but not a thing in that list makes me excited. WildStar looks interesting, but I'm going to wait to see how their progression system is before I decide to care about it. If it's another KTX quest grinder, I'll be ignoring it. The rest I truly don't give a crap about and, having beta'd all but 2 on that list (WildStar being one) I can safely say I won't be missing out on much of anything.

You CAN buy used PC games, but most don't because of things like CD Keys. The greater majority of the time, I won't buy a game new; I'll wait till the price drops to $20 or less. If that means I have to wait a year, so be it, as when games reach that price point I'm generally buying them in bulk and end up backed up on things to play anyway. Console games almost never see these kinds of sales, which is why I instead buy them used. I haven't bought a 'new' console game since Final Fantasy...7.

It might at first seem like that's part of the problem, but it isn't really for the same reason that pirating isn't as much of a problem as the industry likes to claim. If used games went away, it doesn't mean I'd buy new ones; it means I wouldn't buy them at all unless they went on Steam-like sales and dropped to extremely low prices. As this is unlikely, I would be (and will be) ignoring any and all next-gen systems that tax or prohibit used games. Without that, they may only get $300-600 out of me over the lifetime of the console, but multiplied across those who feel as I do, that's a huge chunk of money the developers are missing out on.

But I don't really mind. Sony, Microsoft, please feel free to continue paving the way toward cheap, indie PC gaming. The soil atop your graves will surely serve these golden roads well.

What the....I was expecting to see a Prius rolling around for all the whining I see. They're rickety, seemingly steam-powered vehicles. They're not high-tech or anything. Why do people assume that a fantasy world is completely ignorant to technology? There's like hundreds of high-fantasy games out there that have nothing but swords and wands for days, let AA try its own thing.

I don't even want to play this game and I'm annoyed at its community now.

I'd assume it's unnecessary parts of the development team if it weren't for their recent announcement that Rift is going F2P. Do people really think these two events aren't connected?

I think the company is in a bit of trouble, but it's probably a short-term thing. Defiance seems to be doing well despite its issues, which I'm sure will get ironed out and worked on, and the show version got picked up for another season (God knows why, but whatever). Rift is a very solid game and will probably rake in plenty of money post-F2P. They'll probably be hiring again within 6 months.

This is all nice and well, and the game itself is not bad by any stretch of the imagination, it has plenty of potential to become a really good ARPG.

That being said they need to polish the hell out of it and hopefully think of something which will prevent scenes where six Hulks, four Spiderman and an army of iron Man clones are pounding the same mob/boss on screen, that is just about the only thing in Marvel Heroes i find verry annoying.

There's nothing really to fix that in the short-term, just going to have to live with it really. It's not a complaint I ever understood in the first place, by endgame in nearly any MMO people end up in the same armor, and classes generally have the same gameplay. I can't remember the last time someone in WoW or Rift or Diablo complained that the person next to them had the same end-game tier set equipped. What good is personalizing your face when its hidden behind armor?

On the plus side, they seem to be coming out with tons of costumes at a very fast, surprising rate. Given enough time I'm sure there will be enough variety that this is less of an issue regardless.

8 Years is a very long and reasonable time for a game to last, very few people stick around for it that long in the first place. That said, I am a little sad. It's like CoH, I didn't play it but I enjoyed knowing it was always there. Yeah, 'automation' will supposedly keep the game going, but despite what's said I doubt that will happen for very long. May as well get the goodbyes out now while you can.

The surge of anti-social players is due to all the things that people FOR YEARS claimed for 'part of the game'.

FFA PvP

Spawn Camping

Ninja Looting

No Dungeon Finder - People say without it you talk more. You don't. Without it you afk and watch tv until the group fills up, then you rush through the dungeon cuz you're already tired of standing around doing nothing.

World/Area Chat Trolling

Elitist Guilds

etc., etc., etc. Basically, the MMO environment has become anti-social because it was allowed to degrade to that point via elements used and abused in the game that made people feel battered and unwelcomed. In real life, when someone is raised in that kind of environment, they grow up jaded, cynical and anti-social. It's a defensive mechanism. Sure enough, we see that in the new generation of games and gamers now, as well.

I might be the only person who saw what I thought I saw. What I thought I saw was a multiplayer game being developed by Cryptic, that got rushed into being an MMO by Perfect World. I never really planned on playing, but I was interested in the development of this game. It seemed like a good fit for Cryptic's development model.

I could also see why PW would force an MMO direction with the game in a conspiracy theory kind of way. A NW game that was online, but not an MMO might seem like a step back, rather than a step forward and wouldn't sell well.

But again, it could just be me seeing something that isn't there. :-)

You weren't the only person, it's pretty much been stated openly as fact. Neverwinter was just a co-op RPG until Cryptic was acquired by PW. On one hand, early videos of Neverwinter at this stage of the game were pretty terrible, but I'm not sure I'd call the current Neverwinter much of an improvement over what it was once trying to be. I've actually stood up for Cryptic in the past, and still think they're a pretty good team, but they were the wrong people to pass this IP off to. They haven't done anything right from the beginning, and now with their Neverwinter MMO out, I doubt someone who ~could~ do it better ever will.

Guess I'll just continue hoping and praying for a Dragonlance MMO.

Article would hit its mark a bit better if you'd take another gander at that last line, Bill :)

I'm glad someone touched on this topic, it's been a problem for a while. Betas haven't been what they're supposed to be for years, they're just means of advertising, and ways to release games as buggy, exploitable messes (Neverwinter) while still under the protective veil of the word "Beta". You see how many people rise to protect a game, say "it's a beta, it's going to have bugs," and companies have gotten smart enough to use their fans. Hopefully their fans will wisen up and stop allowing themselves to be used.
