Scarlet Blade: Open Beta Launches
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 3/28/13 10:31:58 AM
Game is SO BAD dear God. Tried it despite the aesthetics, which aggravate me to no end. Spare me the whole sexuality vs. the West thing. When there are dicks swinging just like there are boobs jiggling then we can talk about sexuality being allowed and accepted. Until then, this isn't sexuality, this is objectification.
Anyway, how are games like this still allowed to exist? I'll grant that Whipper and Shadow animations are decent, but everyone else just uses guns of various sizes that shoot balls of energy of various colors. That's all you do, while you're killing 10 of something and turning it in just to get another quest asking you to do the same. The game is offensive on a whole other level, that the developers of this trash think gamers are stupid and juvenile enough to overlook bad gameplay just by shoving cameltoe in our faces. |

General: Yitien Announced by Reality Squared
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 3/28/13 10:25:51 AM
Oh look, yet another panda. We need more of those. >_>
Still going to give it a look. I miss the traditional turn-based game, but I've yet to see an online game do it correctly. Crossing my fingers this isn't another one of those automated games. |

[Preview] Marvel Heroes: Gazillion's Super-heroic Plans
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 3/28/13 10:23:40 AM
Big fan of the game but, yep, this is probably the one thing they could have done to make sure I never spend anymore money on it. I'm glad I grabbed a single hero starter pack to make sure I get the only hero (for now) that I really wanted, because if this system stays, they'll never see another penny out of me.

Rift: Korean Version Shutting Down
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 3/27/13 10:35:23 AM
Called it. Korea generally speaking is the cutting edge of MMO culture and Rift is far too old-school in its mechanics. I knew it would survive long over there. B&S is pretty traditional fair gameplay-wise, but comes with some added action mechanics like the potential for dodge and LoS and comboing skills. Combat is also more visceral. Diablo is an action dungeon crawler series so, nothing to explain there. I expect games like WildStar, GW2 and ESO to do much better in Korea.

I don't have a problem calling it any MMO. Massive Multiplayer Online is all that term ever stood for, it's people who made it something else and even then that varies based on opinion. But yes, it's HEAVILY instances. And spare me the 'open' maps people, I played into the 30s. Those maps are not 'open', they are paths areas with a sky. Adding a sky to a map doesn't make it open when you have invisible walls, trees, houses, etc., creating specific paths you move through and portals to a new zone, which btw is usually just to another NPC that's going to send you into another instance. Personally, I like instancing, so this isn't something that's a killer for me, but don't try to portray the game as something it isn't. You're going to give people the wrong idea and in the end, only do harm to a game you like. |

Marvel Heroes: Tune in at 5 pm EST Today for a Big Announcement
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 3/22/13 1:02:41 PM
Originally posted by Razeekster I'm sure this is a shock to the majority here at MMORPG.com living inside their self-imposed bubbles, but the game is actually wildly popular on its own. There are people EVERYWHERE and they have nothing but good to say about it. Considering how many people bought the $200 package (one of which wasn't me, I really like the game but that's too much to spend on a game these days) I'd say it's doing just fine as is. Hopefully this is an Open Beta announcement. It seemed in the last playtest that they had the game relatively wrapped up production-wise, they've even retexutured the characters for more detailed models and faces. The only thing that was still being worked out was the server issues, trying to make it so the masses of people playing at once could do so without all the lag. If that's all that's left, an Open Beta is just what the doc' ordered. I'm looking forward to being able to play without fear my progress will get wiped. |

Ragnarok Online II: Coming to WarPortal Soon
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 3/16/13 11:26:20 AM
They spent so much time producing and reproducing this game only to end up with a generic cliche of a style that's dying or dead to most gamers. I can't imagine why investors are starting to shy away from MMOs, with companies like these just throwing cash down the drain. Only thing that's more of a waste of time to make this game is the time it would take to play it. |

News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 3/16/13 11:18:04 AM
I sort of feel like I've sucked everything out of CO that I wanted to get from it, but I still think it's a good game and worth both the time and monetary investment. While several features ARE gated, they aren't intrinsic to the experience, not as people claim, and they're cheap to purchase. If you make it to endgame where you need tons of money for things then let's be honest, you've played on everyone else's dime long enough. Time to man up and drop $10 to support the game you've been playing. It's not a lot to ask.

Just got back into Vindictus recently, I missed it. Definitely satisfying that action itch I had. Where a comparison to Neverwinter came from, I don't know. They have absolutely nothing in common. |

[General Article] Neverwinter: Thoughts from Beta Weekend 2
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 3/13/13 11:43:03 AM
I on the other hand was incredibly disappointed in Neverwinter, and don't see it growing beyond a niche audience. For all intents and purposes, it's a stripped down DDO. The graphics are scattered in quality, the astral diamond necessities are out of control, non-instanced questing is KXY, the skill bar and system is extremely restrictive and there is ZERO class versatility. Unlike a lot of people here who played for a couple of hours or just for a day, I played the whole weekend. I made it over level 30, into the Paragon Levels on my Cleric, to get a good feel for the game before making any kind of judgement. It's repetitive, and the immediate response of, "Oh hey, this is fun!" will begin to dim by 20 and by 30 it'll be gone entirely. Paragon levels don't much to change the gameplay, they decide your next 3 skills over the following 30 levels and that's pretty much it. The class system is inferior to nearly every other Dungeons and Dragons game, the skill trees and class choices are inferior to Rift, the combat is inferior to GW2, the quests are inferior to TSW, the graphics ugh...take your pick. Even CO/STO are more attractive and they're by the same company, and older. I was one of those people that stood up for Cryptic where CO was concerned, but I think they missed the mark by miles with Neverwinter. |

[Preview] Scarlet Blade: Featuring Scantily Clad Anime Females
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 3/06/13 10:31:33 AM
This is entirely different than AoC, the two can't be compared. Conan aimed for realism in its nudity, evidenced by the lack of armor that reflects this kind of nudity (at least in the original game, haven't kept up with the expacs). It was only gratuitous at first because people playing the game made it so, but eventually they got over it and threw on some rather bland, but realistic, means of protecting themselves in battle. Mortal Online is the same. I like this kind of nudity in games, I like realism. I installed nude mods (for both genders) in Skyrim because when I take everything my victim owns, I want them literally left with nothing. Granted it comes with an unfortunate courier side affect, but that's a different discussion.
Scarlet Blade is gratuitous for the sake of it. Generally, I don't have a problem with this either. I don't care for it, but it's not something I'd rage on. What irks me is when its used as a gimmick to cover up terrible and bland gameplay. It's offensive that the devs actually think all they need to make this game interesting are pixelated breasts and f**k-me boots. The game has been out for a while, check out the videos or even play the original version yourself. It's bottom of the barrel amounts of drull. That Aeria was even able to get their hands on this is testament to its quality, they would have been crushed beneath the heels of bigger publishers had this game been worth fighting over. |

[Column] Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn: A Realm Rising?
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 3/05/13 10:14:34 AM
It doesn't surprise me, FF14 is fighting an uphill battle and this goes hand-in-hand with what I've said about it relauching as a new game entirely rather than with the stigma of it's first iteration.
That they ever tried to sell the original game hurt them, it's practically offensive that anyone has to pay for something so obviously broken and unfinished. The only thing about it that wasn't incredibly amateur and beneath SQE were the graphics, and then only partially considering how much of the terrain was cloned. People are burned and many will never go back. Plus, they're keeping the sub model, something people are less and less willing to pay for thanks to the plethora of f2p/b2p options. Plus, FF MMOs were always a niche appeal in the first place. PLUS, the few people that did support FF14 are now leaving because they view the new iteration as a WoW clone.
This game can't and won't win. I actually feel no animosity anymore, at this point I just feel bad for them. They're clearly making an effort to try and fix past mistakes, but I doubt gamers will forgive them, we all tend to behave like women scorned with it comes to our video games. It's going to be a lot of money, time, talent and potential wasted. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it. |

Neither EIN nor BLESS have NA release dates or are even promised to release in the west at any time, ever. That's why they're not listed on this site. MMORPG.com is a western run site, they talk about games they can actually play. If this were a universal gaming site, the games list would be much larger than it is. Age of Wushu was talked about elsewhere for years before this site bothered with it, and that was only once it was said to release in the west. I've known about Kingdom Under Fire 2 since 08, it only just appeared on this site when the NA website for it appeared.

Anyone else feel that MMOs are a HUGE waste of time?

If you were, then it served it's purpose, just like your current hobby is doing for you now. |

Why in my opinion people should fund the project
General Discussion « Camelot Unchained 2/18/13 10:07:25 AM
I don't understand how people are acting like this doesn't already exist. There are plenty of PvP-only games out there. MOBA's may have a different 'style' but essentially they are the exact same thing. That's ALL you're doing. If there's no PvE, then what you're doing is logging into an arena to run around and smack people in. You can do that in plenty of games, I'm missing how CU is some bright shining example of shoulda-coulda-woulda.

For a series known for its amazing PvE - why so focused on PvP for ESO?
General Discussion « Elder Scrolls Online 2/16/13 2:55:04 PM
ESO has nothing to do with Elder Scrolls besides the lore. You may as well forget ESO even has the Elder Scrolls title, if you don't you're only setting yourself up for disappointing. It's developed by a separate studio, that has not made an Elder Scrolls game, headed by someone that has never made an Elder Scrolls game (you'll find this theme a lot). Approach it like an entirely new game, because that's exactly what it is. Make no mistake, this is an MMO that had already been developed on paper, with the Elder Scrolls name tacked on to get the fans interested. That's going to be their downfall, the game sounds good on its own but no matter how many times they tell people not to, fans are going to approach this like an MMO version of Skyrim, and it couldn't be further from that.

[Interview] Guild Wars 2: February’s Flame and Frost Update Detailed
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/14/13 7:08:49 PM
Veeeery thrilled about the informaiton on the guild missions. That will greatly help bridge the gap in content and will help to bring people to lower level areas. I would never have thought of that, but it's a brilliant move. Allowing for people outside the guild to participate when they see the flag sounds like it's going to solve a lot of issues all at once. Now, if they can just avoid making the rewards too huge a grind, it'll be perfect.

1.7 and the forced PVP debate

Damn, game's off the radar for me, now. I can't do this gameplay anymore, it's almost to tedious to even be called a game. That video showed a world that looked really interesting and fun to explore but combat that can be found in 90% of the games out there, none of which I'm playing and for good reason. Free form targetting won't be enough to change that. In every one of those fights in the combat video, the Warrior rushes in as the tank and everyone just stands back spamming attacks/heals from out of aggro range. Honestly, I'd rather have an MMO with no combat and no gear, than an MMO with dated versions of either. |
