How much attention do you get playing a female?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/09/10 8:31:58 PM
The only attention I get is from people who make these kinds of threads.
Do people on fighting game forums constantly ask why male players pick Chun Li or Noel all the time too? |

Release Date of FFXI Ultimate Collection Announced
The Airship (General) « Final Fantasy XI 10/30/09 4:23:22 PM
I don't have any of the add-on campaigns, and they're... $9.99 each if I remember. Since this is $19.99, I guess it would be worth it for anyone who doesn't have them to buy it so they have all three, huh? |

Is it too late to start this game and progress.
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 8/25/09 3:34:37 AM
Honestly, you'd be surprised how many people want to do low level dungeons. People are always leveling alts, and there's a lot of gear that can only be obtained from certain dungeons that, say, a twink might want. Certain dungeons are tough, but there's a lot that people do regularly like Deadmines, Wailing Caverns, Razorfen Kraul/Downs, and Zul'Farrak. You just have to be on at the right times.
It's kind of like in another game I play, FFXI, in that people tend to level in waves. You just have to catch one at the right time. |

Thread deleted on WoW boards because it was about the NGE and WoW's new expansion.
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 8/25/09 3:14:52 AM
Unlike the NGE, WoW players have been asking for Blizzard to go back and update the old world for quite some time now. They also asked for more new content in expansions that low level players could access. Guess what Blizzard did? |

Racial Stats, should Square Enix change this?
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV 7/10/09 11:16:55 PM
I kinda like racial abilities over racial stats a bit more, bu tI've also played a lot of WoW as well as FFXI. They made playing different races feel more unique to me and made it so everyone brought something a bit different to the table other than a PLD with more/less HP or STR or something. That being said, I'd actually like it if they had both things. I thought it was kind of cool how Mithra could eat raw fish and Galka could eat raw meat, but thats the extent of racial abilities I remember from FFXI, so I think that all the races should have something special they can do, and hopefully it will be more than just being able to eat different foods this time. |

Square-Enix sued over "hidden fees" in Final Fantasy XI
The Airship (General) « Final Fantasy XI 7/03/09 6:12:33 AM
To be fair, I always thought that SE's billing system could use a revamping, and in FFXIV it looks like that will happen, but for the most part it works the way it says it does. If your account is active during any given month, you will be charged for that month, no questions asked. My only real gripe is that they charge the same day every month rather than the anniversary of your subscription every 30 days like, say... WoW does. If anything comes out of this lawsuit, that might be for them to change the billing system before FFXIV is released, but I'm guessing it won't happen. SE's ToS was crafted by lawyers who are familiar with this kind of stuff, after all. |

Security Token w/ Mog Satchel {in stock}
The Airship (General) « Final Fantasy XI 7/03/09 6:07:11 AM
I bought an authenticator for WoW and it's pretty nifty. They're cheaper than the FFXI tokens but they also don't come with any ingame goodies. I'll probably grab one when I have the chance. Also the mog satchel expands with each gobbiebag quest you complete. |

Race stats don't matter unless you're hellbent on min-maxing. Mithra and Hume are the more balanced races, but Hume are all around average while Mithra trade some of their VIT and MND for DEX and AGI. I want to say that STR is pretty close for both races as well as INT and MP (which might be identical... I forget). Your stats will ultimately be decided by your gear and food choice, so focus more on that than anything. DEX affects Accuracy, but it doesn't affect Accuracy as much as +Accuracy gear. Your stats might dictate what gear and food you want to use. Having more DEX means you focus more on STR gear and you can probably go easier on DEX or Accuracy gear (though that's largely dependent on the mob you're fighting too. Some really dodgy ones might need Accuracy either way). That being said, in certain situations a particular race will always outshine an equally-geared/fooded other race. Mithra, for example, will pretty much always outdamage a Hume as a Thief using Sneak Attack and Trick Attack because their multipliers are based on your DEX and AGI respectively. These situations seldom make or break a scenario though. You'll have more fun just choosing the race you like more, trust me. |

Is RP quality inversely proportional to the number of players?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 7/03/09 5:35:49 AM
Roleplayers in modern MMOs are pretty much always going to be the minority at this point, so I don't think that population matters much. I'm going to say that for popular MMOs the ratio of RP to Non-RP is probably about the same. The quality of RP is... in a sense maybe related to game populationsbut that's not really fair because you have games like WoW, Lineage, and whatever F2P games are at the top like MapleStory (I'd say people RPing in this is probably debatable, but I woudn't doubt it happens) pr Perfect World who have vastly larger player bases (internationally at least) than most titles. Naturally you're going to find more bad RPers simply because there are more players, just as I would be more likely to find more green M&Ms the more bags I open. It's difficult to compare popular MMOs to niche MMOs because they're really two different beasts. One is meant to cater to everyone and their guinea pig while the other speaks to a specific demographic. In all, I think that there may be some kind of correlation between population and RP quality but that's just numbers, and it works inversely as well in that larger populations would also mean more potentially good RPers. Furthermore, Roleplaying in games like WoW is much different than what some might traditionally consider roleplaying. I'd say the mechanics are indeed limiting but the potential to roleplay and give your character more than just a face and a sword to swing are still there. They're not so much a means of sculpting the game as they are a more enriching way to socialize within the game. Its a way to really give MMOs that... massively multiplayer feel. Admittedly, most of the same things that occur could happen in an IRC chat room, but if people want PnP style RPing, they should probably just play a PnP RPG. WoW probably isn't the best example either. A MMO with more open PvP would lend itself better to more open roleplaying because you also have the possibility of diplomatic scenarios and that whole waging war thing. |

Fairy is one of the older servers and thus heavily populated, but I believe that the most populated server is Odin, which may have recently had to offer server migrations for players in order to spread the population out a bit. |

"Anyone else get this problem?" or "WARNING! Shady billing practices!"
The Airship (General) « Final Fantasy XI 6/11/09 5:51:42 AM
This doesn't seem shady on SE's part so much as maybe a bit of improper wording.
FFXI's always given 30 free days to new accounts and never when you upgrade expansions, otherwise you'd get another 30 days right out of the original retail box since it comes with Rise of the Zilart. I don't have the Vana'diel Collection on hand, but I'm guessing that if you read somewhere on the fine print it might mention the whole new account thing, but otherwise I think it's safe to expect that they're not going to give you another 30 days for expanding an existing account. |

Windows Vista - FFXI (How does it play for you?)
The Airship (General) « Final Fantasy XI 6/11/09 5:44:59 AM
The only issue I've had with Vista 64bit is that I needed to use some tricks to get Vista to use 3rd party Xbox360 controller drivers, and after that they worked save the force feedback (which does seem to work in other games). Actually, I found another set of 3rd party drivers that allows me to have force feedback (different from the XBCD ones I usually use), but they have an error that requires me to restart my computer in order to recognize the controller again in the event it gets disconnected. |

I left FFXI for a while and started to come back only to hit a certain snag that I remember was the reason I stopped in the first place. I'm basically terrible at making gil in this game. My highest leveled job is 52MNK and I needs me some Tactician Magician's Hooks +2. If I spent weeks upon weeks farming my usual stuff, I could probably manage to afford them, but chances are there are much more efficient ways of making money. I've never really had the money to start crafting, although my cooking is in the low 20s at the moment, meaning I can make some things that can yield profit but not many. Most of my other jobs are in the low-mid 30s, and my usual methods of money making are harvesting in Giddeus and farming beehive chips and the occasional beastcoin if I can get them. The problem is that most harvesting items are worthless save Red Moko Grass and maybe Fresh Mugwort and Saruta Cotton if I can sell it, and beehive chips don't sell for a huge amount either. I know I could try mining, but I've been told that I need to be a smith to really make the best out of it, not to mention competition is high. Are there any other good areas I can scour for something that sells? From what I remember, there aren't really any BCNMs I could do that people would want to bring MNKs to do. I've tried farming black tiger fangs and giant bird feathers, but it takes longer to get a stack of either than the beehive chips. |

The latest collections should install fine on vista if they're anything the trial discs you can buy for like $3, which are fully vista compatible and have up to Treasures of Aht Urghan if I remember. |

Why Can't MMOs Have Realistic Injuries?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/12/09 2:20:13 PM
I can see ranged characters having an upper hand in these kinds of situations, and balancing this kind of combat would be my primary concern. In theory, all it would take is an arrow or two to the legs and your character would be toast if realistic injury applied. Yes, you could have armor, but then where do you draw the line when it comes to where realism applies or not, since not all armor deflects arrows. Plate might, but a plate-wearing character shouldn't be able to move as nimble as someone in leather or lighter. |

FFXI on a decent 360 and a PC are pretty much the same. Just use whatever you feel most comfortable in front of for hours at a time. You can even use a 360 controller on your PC and play just like you would on a console. |

To you banned guy, take a brief and get over it. In the IT world shit happens, people shouldn't get angry because of it. Well I got a good laugh of it, just so you know it, you make you self look dumb, sorry.
Well, a lot of businesses have some sort of thing like that to fall back on. It's the same thing as when you see a sign in a store that says "We reserve the right to refuse service" or something. Typically they're not going to if you're not doing anything wrong since they want your money. They're probably a bit less lenient on free accounts because they haven't given any money. |

There isn't a clause about banning people for using proxies in the ToS, but I think there is a clause about SE reserving the right to ban your account for any reason they feel like. Remember that everything on SE's servers belongs to SE. You're more or less "renting" your account. |

Fields of Valor are a new system implemented late last year. To begin one, find a field manual in the area you're in and talk to it. It's a floating book usually outside the major nations, and it's usually at outposts elsewhere. Anyways, the book gives you certain "training regimens" to complete. Typically this involves killing certain numbers of specific enemies. When you complete a training regimen, you receive bonus exp and gil as well as tabs. Tabs are a special currency for fields of valor that allow you to gain special things like food and a teleport back to your home nation from the field manual. You can do a training regimen once every in-game day (1 game day = 1 real life hour). |
