So Adventurine signs an agreement with some people who could be their cousins for all we know, and this game stops being vaporware.

I love this forum.

its actully a major distribution company.

Yeah, one step above EA. Actually I believe that AV is about to buy EA soon.

Anyway, 2008 has 4 more months, 3 if we disregard August, since the guys in Aventurine are on vacations. You think they will make it this year? For the last three months, we have seen absolutely no action from Aventurine, apart from some more of the same promises that have been going on for 5 years now. Look at WAR for example, you can tell that they are on a launch fever.

Ow, I forgot. Aventurine is doing it "their" way and are about to change the gaming industry for ever.

WAR will be going broke if they don't release soon and are cutting content for fun, AV sure are doing it their own way, no doubt they are developing and doing so on a tight budget.

They aren't pandering and it's all hands to the pumps as they have stated, the signs are good and they are busy. Showing ignorance with respect to their partners who are listed companies gains you nothing builds no credibility and make you a laughing stock. AV are dlivering like games would have been in the past, it is fanboi/hater speculation that is generating a large ammount of misdirection from a very small number of people.

Regardless of how people don't like others with real gaming history regardless of how much of a chump they are, this is interesting.

And does prove a number of things , with respect to hardcore PvP and the nature of some of the guys now owning and developing DF. In a lot of ways the fact someone thinks DT was full of degenerates is fine but you have to remember that a lot of people did not have a lot of choice PvP wise.

This also proves the relationships between Tasos and Yellowbeard and even moreso the reson he was allowed to visit interesting.

Looking for a fun crew

Any guilds out there intent on having fun who don't really care about dying , would love to hear thoughts and approach to waht will be a great game if it releases.

Shame you mentioned SWG, an immediate turn off. Associating with SWG drop outs is like permenent pshycological grilling over and over about the good old days. Too much of a chore ...

Shame you guys can't let go could have been a fun guild not.

Have had alook and it's looking pretty average.... A long way from release I will pop back in 6 months,,, se what has happened.

That's the company IkonaHxos

http://finance.google.com/finance?q=ATH:IKONA

And that's the company named Audio Visual Enterprises (Hxos Eikona)

http://finance.google.com/finance?q=ATH%3AABE

"Audiovisual Enterprises S.A. is a Greece-based commercial enterprise. The Company's range of activities includes the reproduction, import, export and trade of videotapes and digital versatile discs (DVD), as well as the operation of studios for recording, translating and subtitling. The Company has exclusive co-operations with Warner Bros., Walt Disney and Village Films for the Greek market. Audiovisual Enterprises S.A. is engaged in the cinema field through its affiliates Ster Cinemas and Allou Fun Park, and through On Productions it is active in the production of television programs and movies. "

Yes they are both perfectly respectable companies and they are traded on the Athens Stock Exchange:

Eikona Hxos:

Audio Visual Enterprises:

http://www.ase.gr/content/gr/companies/ListedCo/Profiles/profile.asp?CID=1000

And that's the announcement of AVE about the MoU with Aventurine:

http://www.ave.gr/article_detail.asp?e_cat_serial=001001009002&e_cat_id=106&e_article_id=606

I think there has been a confusion of these 2 different companies from Google. The first sells electrical equipment while AVE makes DVDs and owns many hardware installations.

I just hope that all will go well...

So they are two different companies.  When in another thread the people following this game published this new info, I asked if they were the same company or part of a holding or somethign because I thought they were different companies.

The answers were Ikona Hxos mean Audiovisual in greek... I wasnt sure of that but they repeat it like a holy text.  So, I didnt keep asking.

It's good that someone actually research it.  Thanks for the info.  I was curious about that.

I sometimes think that these guys are being stalked when all they are doing is developing a MMO... Scary

WAR has been delayed before, they won't do it again.  A game can only be in development for so long before the publisher kicks them out the door.  There is no money being generated while  a game is in development so its either sink or swim when it comes down to it.

Yes a shame really...

I was just thinking with the debacle of AOC and other recent MMOs , would it not be better to delay the release and add the promised content.

This is an MMO suposedly an endless world offering longevity / community and fun, so why are they cutting content. This just appears to be another money spinner with no heart .... am i wrong ?

I've read/watched this game quite a bit... and I'm really trying to get excited about it.... but I can't...

I know there's plenty of fanbois on this forum and I'll probably get crucified for my opinions... but WAR just seems like the same stale gameplay to me...

I'm struggling to find something new... but all I see is another elf/goblin world with the same gameplay elements as other games...
The RvR which is the game's main selling point, is just zerg-battles... no matter how much you try to polish it.

If you want a game for the graphics/action/blood/carnage... play AoC (No.. it's not as bad as people say... but it needs A LOT work yet)

If you want a game for it's lore and character/world depth, play LOTRO (which is unparalleled in these areas)

and if you want a game that's got a lot of things to do then play WoW (...i'm not a fanboi... i hate it' for what it has become)

So why play yet another game that offers you the same things as countless other games?....
Sure you might play it for a change of scenery, but how long will that last?....

Anyway... I'd like to hear some constructive posts... please don't flame me... just expressing my opinions and i'm not  fanboi of any games.. (other than the Fallout series :))

edit: fixed for NDA...(I hope)

No need to flame you at all but some of your comparissons are very poor and i'll informed. Most people have played the above games and guess what they held their attention for very little time so thats why we want something else.

Difficult to reply in a constructive way as your post has a lot of elements that border on trolling in this forumn and trying to get a reaction, no need for you to be here.

Sadly I agree with you though just realised i'm in the wrong forumn - come over have a look at fallen earth.

Yes this is starting to look good can't wait for the release. If they have Evil chickens then I hate to think of some of the mutated critters that are going to turn up. hehe

First of all let me say I really hope this game is released and is of high quality as it would be my dream mmo.

I was looking into the company that has recently signed to publish Darkfall which is Ikona and Ihos SA.

It appears to be a perfectly respectable company, it is traded on the Athens Stock Exchange, makes a profit and pays dividends.  Therefore I don't think that it is sensible to suggest that Darkfall in some form does not exist.

http://finance.google.com/finance?q=ATH:IKONA

However this companies main line of business is selling household electronics, for example refrigerators, washing machines, video recorders.  As other people have noted it has no publishing experience.

This makes me wonder wtf is going on with this game?

If it is nearly finished and has all the features it is stated to have it is almost guaranteed to make a profit. Maybe not a massive profit like WoW, but a decent return for a prospective publisher nonetheless.

So why use a company to publish the game that has no infrastructure in place?  They have no disk reproduction and packaging partners, no server farm, no distribution network and no in house customer support facilities.

Choosing a publishing company that already has all of this (or existing industry partners that have them) would save everyone involved a huge sum of money, which would mean more profit for the original backers. It makes no sense.

I have some speculations of why they would do this:

1) The game is not of sufficently high quality and therefore the mainstream publishing industry won't touch it.

2) All the possible candidates have mmo's released or in development and aren't willing to take another one on that will compete with their existing projects.

3) Aventurines backers also have interests in Ikona and Ihos SA and are looking to diversify thier business.

4) Aventurine wasn't willing to agree the terms offered by any major publisher that looked at the game and therefore decided to risk going with an outsider.

Obviously this all pure guess work.

I really want Darkfall to be released, feature complete and be of high quality but until I see actual evidence that is it worth buying I shall remain on the fence.  By actual evidence I mean numerous reports in the mainstream independent gaming media and/or a chance to play it myself.

Uhm well as per your assumptions:

1) not relevant if they aren't getting the option.

2) bad one here if the game will make money they will take the game for the sole reason that if it is going to take market share regardless. And the joint revenue may be greater than the one anyway.

3) Irrelevant

4) This is what they have done , I don't see the risk of going with an established distributor wierd. It is interesting sometimes what companies capabilities are it isn't always obvious to the naked eye.

I think most people coming  here want the game to release. it will only be a matter of time

I have been following this game for a long time now, hoping and praying that it will be released. I've seen the vids. I've read the promises. I want the game.

I have a sad feeling that the old days of the MMORPG are gone. Replaced with WoW clones and games that are big on promise and short on delivery.

Is Darkfall too good to be true...Can it save the modern day MMO from the clutches of big producers like SOE and Blizzard.

I doubt it. If they ever do get the money to finish this game it'll probably get an early release just to pay the bills and end up the mess Vanguard and AoC did at launch.

I'll keep watching...I'll keep hoping...I'll keep dreaming until i get shot down again.

Hey, for me, this is truely the game i want to see succeed. So stay away SOE :)

No Darkfall will not be too good to be true, it will be just the same as EvE was. Developed by a small dedicated number of very skilled individuals. Amazing what you can do with efficient coding, something most games don't get close to acheiving these days.

Darkfall is just re-addressing the poor state MMOs have gotten themselves into. No longer games of note just empty boring worlds with no community , lacking purpose and full of features that reduce gameplay options.

If it isn't DarkFall it could be one of a number of MMO releases to come that will get the genre on the right track. These guys have money their own and are investing  it in their dreams. The old days are not gone they just don't live here anymore... so so sad.

Yes, it's coming...

W

hat's the next big beta? A question that assaults my mailbox. My answer is always the same, a knowing glance and a wicked smirk. We rarely let people know things are coming before they grace our front page as we keep things highly secretive. It's for this reason I'm thrilled to announce something stupendously huge is coming to FilePlanet. If you're not subscribed yet - I insist you do. That's all I can say right now, but have I ever written something like that before? Think hard on that, and read my upcoming blogs carefully for further information.

What has brought you into our FilePlanet family differs from person to person, but one thing is certain. Nothing beats the feeling of playing a game before EVERYBODY else. We've been proud to be on the forefront of that battlefield, not only providing our users with the chance play many AAA games first - but also support many phenomenal titles and help their success through promotion of demos and betas.

Over the next few days we'll be reflecting on the past games that our Subscribers and Users have had the privilege to try before anybody else. Here are our highlights in the First-Person Shooter Genre:

Based on the title of his post I would say it is most likely a reference to Warhammer Online.  Since one of War's catchphrases was WAR is Coming.  I would make sense.

It could also be a reference to Wrath of the Lich King.

But if I was going to put money on it I would say it was WAR.  Especially since EA's own store had the launch date for WAR listed as September 23rd.

Darkfall won't be requiring such a long beta and true to form they won't force people to subscribe through fileplanet. It will be access for all not for the few who use FP.
