I'm going to wait until WAR has been out for a month. Then if there is no news on Darkfall and WAR has a decent reputation I'll buy it.

Darkfall is also supposedly releasing this year, have seen no evidence yet though. Could be a sleeper hit if it's got all the features the devs allege. Lol away vapour trolls. |

Just a question.... would you WANT this to succeed?

I think it would be in the interest of the game buying public if such a case was taken to court and won. Too many developers release products that are unfinished. A lot of these types of issues with games are subjectve opinion, we as gamers know that these products aren't up to scratch but proving it in a court of law might be impossible. Maybe the industry needs some kind of standards agency like travel agents or insurance companies have that can withdrew membership from miscreants. At the moment it's like the wild west.

After reading about WAR end game one thing that struck me as a potential problem with this game is that one side on each server may continuosly dominate the other. If this happens doesn't it mean that the weak side will not get to see the T4 dungeons ect and have to be constantly on the defensive?

Nope, I've been playing them for about 10 years. Blizzard makes enough profit to make 10 brand new mmo's from scratch every year and still break even. For them to re-use content and never broaden the scope of their game is laughable. If companies in other industries were so unimaginative when designing their new products they would go out of business in no time. The sooner Blizzard gets some realistic competition the better. |

I decided i was not gonna play wotlk when I saw that most of the models were exactly the same as existing monster models with a slightly different colour, same as TBC. Considering how much money Blizzard makes it's shocking how little effort they put into a expansion that's taken 2 years. I mean, how many man hours does it take to make a few new zones and dungeons when your using existing models and scenery? They obviously do them on the cheap and then charge people nearly the same as a brand new game.

World of Warcraft: Blizzard Exec: Some Left to try Conan
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/04/08 10:52:20 AM
This is sign of weakness in my opinion. No company would ever admit to losing customers unless they had to because it was glaringly obvious. Less than half the people who left went back after trying the competition, this cannot be good. Could be the start of WoW's decline.

Yeah it's definately the quality of mmo's that's made me stop playing them. When you have been playing computer games for a long time, 25 years in my case, you expect a certain quality that sadly recent mmo's are just lacking. I did think that maybe I'm getting too old , but recently I've been downloading some older games from about 5 years ago (didn't have anything else to play) and I must say that they were much more entertaining than many games released this year. I think developers are not getting their priorities right. They should be concentrating on designing games that are actually fun to play rather than just being eye candy. There seems a trend developing where games are getting increasing dumbed down. Maybe people just don't have the concentration span that did before. Edit: 2 fairly recent games I've actually enjoyed playing were Bioshock and Portal (not mmo's), I wish developers would take a good look at these and compare it to bland dross that they are releasing.

If this is gonna be mmo Elite i'm in. |

I was playing from a couple months after release up until about 3 months ago. I can't say I really enjoyed the game much after TBC was released as the endless pursuit of new gear and rep just got really boring. I find it surprising that a lot of people still seem quite enthuastic, especially with new xpac being released soon, how long have you guys actually been playing it? |

That's true but the chart is not comparing itself to anything other than it's own figures for previous months. It is not useful for estimating actual player numbers but it does accurately reflect any broad trends in player activity. The trend line for player activity is showing it's steepest decline since the game was released. |

These stats are made up with perhaps2% of the people who install this fool's pathetic program census plus. No new users install these measuring tools. He can only measure thinks by letting install his census plus program so in extrapolating he thinks he can measure exactly what happens. Like he stated "please install census plus because even ONE person can make a difference in having enough "samples". Well ... if ONE person influences his stats in a meaningful way ... it is utterly crap! It is a complete useless tool. Here is some REAL proof of NEW players joining Wow today ! In US: sales top 10 with 2 produtcs of Wow. In UK: top 1 position in the PC charts as of July 08: PROOF http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/a108711/world-of-warcraft-tops-pc-chart.html In GE: position 2, 3, 7 and 8 all taken by Wow on the PC charts. PROOF So these new users don't even show up because I, after playing Wow for 3 years never installed Census plus like 98% of all Wow users btw.
These census programs use /who to count everyone logged onto the server. You do not need to have it installed to be counted. WoW has 2.5 million subscribers in the US and 2 million in the EU according to the last offical figures so it's probably reasonably accurate looking at the numbers. |
