without absolute numbers that means not very much but since thats the data of launch week i guess aoc will would have a confortable elad for taht week.

better compareable numbers would be if you incluse console games too to see how it sells compared to gta4 (which is currently still selling ~150k per week in the americas http://vgchartz.com/aweekly.php) too bad vgchartz is not including pc games in their charts then we would probably know more exactly how good it actually sells.

Well we know AoC killed GTA4 sales in europe. I'd guess right now AoC is second to GTA4 in the US. But I agree, PC game sales are pretty low and/or stagnant right now.

it didn't really kill gta4, it came top in some contires especially those that counted gta as different game on xbox and ps3, in others like uk gta was still on top. (thats data for first week of aoc in europe http://vgchartz.com/news/news.php?id=1253).

i personally like contested dungeons with nameds that drop good equip. but when devs decide to require these nameds as questupdates for basic quests that everyone has to do that will gnerate problems.

it took eq2 devs quite long to learn this lession too, but finally they got the point to either let the placeholders update the quests too, or mkae the nameds for quests seperate nameds that automatically pop when someoen with quest gets there (these autopop nameds should not drop loot or else someone will probably find a way to exploit hat mechanic).

low -med settings if you want good fps, if you don't mind about fps dropping down to 10 from time to time you might be able to push it higher.

Although I haven't played AoC yet, I've read quite a few threads on both sides of the fence. What I gleaned so far is Tortage is great, you get ganked a lot, content lacking after level 40, it's great if you want to hit things but there is little else to do...  this means that myself, and few others I would imagine, will wait until this game natures matures and other content is developed.

Completely wrong. A blatant lie from people who cant help themselfes but rush through the game to 80 while avoiding any group activity.

I am 40.6 and havent touched fields of death, tarantias noble district, the stygian pyramid. I also have 5-6 group quest available where i dont know if they have follow ups. The crafter areas offer repeatable quests too. Crafting and harvesting quests do give exp too.

I didnt grind any exp, i just followed the questlines. Took my time.

there is absolutely no content problem till lvl 40, but then it slowly starts to dry out, depending on playstyle and many other things you will probably get till 50 without grinding. then in the enxt zone you will have content for a few levels again but everyone thats over lvl 55 says that there is not enough content to level by that without grinding.

also the quests loose quality as yoou level, on tortage there was multiple quests with interesting story, the further you get into the game the more they standard minquests like kill 10 wolves get the upperhand.

and main problem for me with that game is that there is no real other content than combat and combat based quests. even crafting is mostly depending on your combat level, you cannot craft till lvl 40, then you need again x levels till you can learn next recipes...

even combat gets more tiresome with levels, at level 40 you get more and more combos that need 4 buttons (starter + 3 directions) and it will get worse from what i heared. in my opinnion the long combos where oyu have to hit more or less every direction key take away part of the innovative shield system cause now the combos determine which direction keys to hit and no longer your tactic and the enemies shields. and not using combos is no real alternative when you look at how much damage some combos do, it just gets more teh classic hit attack x then attack y and enemy is dead type of game with the only exception taht for each atatck you have to hit 3-4 buttons.

ok i guess my posts sounds again more negative than i wanted it to be, but especially with the combat system i was hoping for more than the game delivered.

The game is not really bad and I am still playing it and its also fun for some time, but the times i play each day get allready less so i am not sure how long the game can keep me.

anyway i think if you are interested in this game best have your self a look at it if its what you want. buddy keys will probably be available soon and also buying a game for about a month playtime is usually not a bad deal when i look at how long i usually played the usual single player games.

How big is the total download from scratch?

I might consider downloading it as a time filler until Funcom fixes the buggy AoC.

game with all expansions and all additional downloads uses just a bit over 10gb on my harddisk, i think the patcher use compression on downloads but you probably will still have to download about 7gb+.

its been like this since they moved to the yearly expansion shedule with expansions including full game and all older expansions.

the retailers just order the game boxes when expansion is fresh, and it usually gets more or less sold out by summer. from then till next expansion launch you usually have to rely on online shops that sell you the keys.

You're lucky to find the expansions in shops in the UK even ay release. And I doubt it's the fault of the shops. They stock any other ten a penny game so why not EQ2?
i live in austria and at expansion lauch i did see copies of rok in nearly all stores but they a few months later you could not see it in most stores anymore so i guess they sold the initial copies and did not get new ones.

resources are definitely not regenerating fast enough. with the current rate a single harvester can probably clear out a whole harvesting area before the first node is back at 50%. as soon as multiple players are harvesting in one area you will hardly ever see a node that reaches 20%.

the fixed node positions make this all even worse, once a player has mappeed the arrea or downloaded a waypoint file he will be very fast at finding resource nodes.  so regeneration needs to be at least 4-5 times the current rate, or as alternative the nodes should give 1-5 items each harvest.

rares rate is ok in my opinnion 1-2% should be enough, the only problem is that the nodes are so slow to respawn. abut they should probably think about the quests requireing to harvest rares (they are just no fun with the slow replenishing of the nodes).

You can't just button mash a combination, and wait for your character to do it for you.

That is why do combat is called more involved, because YOU have to do it, not just your char.

When you 1 keystroke, that's 1 attack - your char can't do another attack (swing/slash) until he's finished that one.

So yes you have to either watch your char do each move you command him to do, or watch the keys highlight if you prefer.

lag shouldn't really matter much, you just have to wait a little longer to execute next attack.

All online games may have lag, you just have to compensate for it.

Edit: if they put a queue system in it like you said, it would ruin the entire concept of skill based, involved combat.

You don't see moves in a smaller FPS online game being queued up, that would mean less player skills....

i personally don't see how hitting a button that highlites requires skill. overally the longer and longer combos with growing level are actually taking away more and more the tactical element of planning where the shields of the npc will be when the combo hits.

i'm not saying the combat system is completely bad, but its also not that great like it looked on paper and i'm especially not happy with the combos.

get a g15 like everyone else

They made it G15 proof by putting in variable lag on the buttons...  So if you hit the next key in the sequence too fast it will drop they key and then when you hit the following one you break the sequence.

dont spread false information - g15 works for combos!

yes just put in some breaks in the macros and it will work. but i personally don't want to macro combos.

some people used exploits to level very fast, but even without exploits leveling is quite fast so i think hardcore players that were in beta and knew the game a bit from there can also be 80 without exploiting in the short time.

i am about lvl 45 with my mainchar have 2 alts at about lvl 20. i have not played much more than 4 hours a day in average and spent also some time with crafting/harvesting. usually in a 3-4 hours playsession i can gain 1-2 levels on my mainchar. if you look at hardcore players that easily play double the time that i play its probably no problem for therm to reach 80 in that time.

travelling and constantly running through grey zones is probably the most annyoing part for me too. once you get to ~ lvl 40 you end up running through connel's valley every time you want to get to fields of the dead (why could there be no direct way through this zone, why do i have to follow the stupid ways) so often that you soon cannot stand it anymore.

and zone connection maps look like the running will only get worse with higher levels as the dungeons and adventure zones are all very split up. i really think this game needs a griffin like transport system, i guess griffins don't fit lore, but they could make it horsestations instead between which you can automatically travell for a small fee.

performance problems in aoc are not that  much depending on luck as they were with vg. in most cases the more powerfull hardware will run aoc better.

what i noticed is that people running the lower end dx10 cards seem to have  more performance issues than those running the high end dx10 cards. but its also nothing really unexpected cause both ati and nvidia did a very big feature cut for the 2400/2600,  8400/8600 cards. the 600 series of both companies seems to be capable of running aoc but don't expect to be able to run it at high or near high settings with constantly good framerates (if you go for realistic settings it should be ok).

most big bugs that i noticed in aoc had to do with crafting system (like the broken cotton harvesting, bugs with quests not updating....). it really looks like crafting was never a high priority thing for the devs of aoc.

400w should be ok too, but it depends on the individual power supply if it can put out enough power on the right voltage lines.

9600 gt has max power consumption of 95w if i remember right, cpu has 65w tdp, so with mainboard, harddisk and other stuff you will probably end up at less than 300w max consumption.

if you go for a more powerfull gfx card like the 8800 or 9800 then i would suggest getting a bigger PSU.

on performance i think you should get this to run at 30+ fps but most likely not with all options maxed out.

its been like this since they moved to the yearly expansion shedule with expansions including full game and all older expansions.

the retailers just order the game boxes when expansion is fresh, and it usually gets more or less sold out by summer. from then till next expansion launch you usually have to rely on online shops that sell you the keys.

not sure if the problem is that soe does not deliver enough boxes later on, or if its the retailers not ordering boxes in the fear that they have the more or less worthless boxes lieing around when next expansion hits.

wow they  finally fixed cotton, but that it took so long to fix a bug that they introduced with a patch after release shows how important crafting is for funcom.

i personally would not see a gamespy review on aoc  as an unbiased review after the amount of fileplanet subscribers ign got with the aoc open beta on fileplanet.

these forums have allways had the fanboy versus haters battles on each mmo launch. it happened with every game launch i have seen on these forums and will happen with every future one.

i guess main reason why its happening is that the fanbois are so much into defending their games against anyone else that they are easy food for regular forum trolls.

both sides in these battles are equally bad for the game, the fanbois are attacking anyone that mentions any smallest bug or performance problem (and some of these even have real problems that could be solved, but when they just get attacked they will maybe stop playing overall), and yes there are a lot forum trolls around tehre that just want to get some fanbois intop attacking them.

in between these 2 groups there are a few posters that can see both sides that think the game is fun but not perfect, but these get less and less with time cause many of them cannot stand to get constantly flamed for their opinnions.

After lvl 40 on my ranger I have found it necessary often to use the active dodges which give you a huge defense bonus for a short time. I never ever touvh the shields though. The time it takes to change them give you a far larger loss in damage over time than the increased defense give you health over time in return.

have to agree with this, the dodges are easy enough to use to buff your defense for a short time. but the shields are another thing changing them takes a bit too long on norma lmouse / keyboard setup at least (not sure if you could set it up better on a gamepad)for the benefits you might gain if you guess the right direction to protect yourself, and as soon as you are fighting multiple enemies at same time there is even less reason to move shields from balanced in my opinnion.

customisation is good especially the face customisation allows a lot, body also is avialaible as sliders, but not sure if you caould make a really fat or a really small person (did not try that).

at lower levels there is not too many different armor looks, so basically all classes wearing same armor type look more or less same. no idea if and how much that will change in higher levels. and as its a itembased game i think in endgame a lot people will try to get the same items cause they have best stats.

also don't know yet how crafted armor will play into this, no idea yet how desireable it will be (atm cotton harvesting is bugged which blocks armorsmith progression so i don't know if there is any armorsmith out there that can answer tehse questions yet)
