There definitely is a uniqueness to the game that you don't get in any other mmo out.  The pure sense of adventure IS in the game, from picking up stuff out of crates, barrels, stuff off a table, treasure chests, etc, etc  Zen/Beth have already said that they will allow for add-ons in the game.  If youve been in a test, you know theres already an add-on button in the game but nothing can be activated so far so, that means that there WILL be ways to get numbers popping up, numbers in a combat log, dmg logs, etc as there have been in previous mmos.  All those add-ons will be up to the players to download and use upon their choice.

As for the "power" gamer, we cant say much just yet and I think some people are jumping to conclusion without knowing much about the end-game just yet.  We do know there will be endgame content in the 50+, 50++, Veteran dungeons, and Adventure zones.  With that said, currently we do not know much about adventure zones and this is what I am and probably everyone else is excited to hear more about.  We don't know what style of content they are going to be other then that they will be 12 man zones.  So in other words, raids.  But, how are they going to function? Will they be outdoor large zones with raid mobs in them, will they follow the traditional mmo raid thats very linear in nature, or how will they be?  We dont know yet and Im starting to get alittle impatient with them over this because for those hardcore PvErs, they feel right now that there isnt any content for them to do because of the lack of information from their part so that means that a certain amount of players wont purchase the game because of this.

Zen NEEDS to release more information on adventure zones ASAP so that those power players have something to drool over and look forward to.

All I can say is play the game till about 10 and than it seems to come into its own.  At first your on a starter island so you can expect much from it till past that.  Around 10, is around when it comes into its own and takes off.  Ignore the reviews and form your own... And, all I can say about Cyrodiil(the pvp grounds) is that is the word Epic doesnt do it justice.  It is far beyond epic, amazing, fantastic, insanely fun....

Simple question for those who may be uniformed of how these games operate. I wouldn't put it past ESO to further try and cash grab lifetime subs over and above box sales on what they know full well be free to play in about a year.

So within a year give or take a few months either side.

I sure as shit hope not.  I want to pay a sub.  Reason being, its better quality and quantity.  I hate F2P games.  Loathe them very much.

I do know that the patcher for ESO beta has updated....  Im hoping for a beta.  I still cant figure out what route for my toon Im going :(  The latest video they released seemed like a more solid build then from previous betas so Im excited to see what they have in store.

Pros:

Story

Cinematics

Graphics

Past Elderscrolls are part of world

Exploration

Voice Actors

Cons:

Lack of equipable skills

Lack of information

NDA (no streams on twitch)

Graphics may interfere with Cyrodill large scale pvp (lag)

Mega Server (Potentially a con, just ignore everyone outside your guild)

Preorder (whats the point of raced based factions if they can be played as any, with preorder, could lead to balancing issues at launch)

Mega Server (limited to building rivals)

__________________________________________________________________________

Wildstar

Pros

PVP leveling whole game

War Plots (40 vs 40 castles/raid bosses) (Best endgame pvp gear)

Server open pvp zones while leveling

More open with its information, beta streaming on twitch daily

Gameplay looks better

Simple graphics mean more players will be able to play in one area

Server rivals/trash talk (Traditional servers)

Cons

Story (Seems like a joke, some might like that)

Grave yard pvp

Cartoony

No world siege at launch (maybe later they said, no guarantee)

WOWish

Ultimately for me its gameplay that trumps, and I havent played Wildstar as of yet, but just watching people play the gameplay looks better.  I had zero interest until I actually got more information on WAR Plots....

I dont buy ESO's Cyrodill working with super limited skills... and high graphics in terms of mmos.

As far as the games, I feel Wildstar is more open as a company.   Whereas ESO has something to hide.

Wildstar = WoW 2.0, no thanks

ESO = Great graphics, fun combat, unique class building elements, maaaaaaaaaassive daoc style pvp and lots of horizontal character progression.  Call it biased, whatever.  I don't care.  I do know that Wildstar looks like shit to me.

You guys are seriously whining over something so silly that you shouldnt even be putting effort and time into.  Who cares if they add a race to the preorder?  Your not forced to buy it.  Buy the regular edition.  Its simply a CHOICE.  Get over it.

This is the worst CE leak ever (And will go down in history as so), I for one ca not believe that Zenimax would stoop this low. Well Ive HAD IT!

Not only did they ignore players cries for an imperial race, and for all races - available to - all factions, but now they go and throw both those into one box and chrge you 150 bucks to have it!!

That is an outright deception of consumer interests and I will be filing a greviounce with the company first thing tomorrow morning!

God is no one else as outraged!?

Dude......Dude your going overboard with this.  If anything, this may be one of the most unique CE a game has ever released simply because of how you WILL stand out unlike every other CE a game has released, you don't really see or know if some other player actually got the CE.  This is actually pretty unique and interesting.  However, your outrage is a little unjustified just yet seeing as how the "leak" was for the PS4 version.  We do not know if its on PC.  That is if your getting it or thinking of getting it on PC.  Calm down though dude and take a step back and look at how unique it would be if it was legit.  You WOULD stand out in a crowd because of the race alone and not only cause other stuff it comes with.

I think its pretty bad ass.

This sucks. From what I've seen it's still one of the best themeparks out there and was on my list of games I am planning to give a proper playthrough to (guess I'll have to hurry up now).

I really think it is a game that deserved more players than it has, especially when I think of all the junk MMOs that have way more. But I guess the launch problems and the lack of expansion or update from SOE killed it.

If Mr. McQuaid would make his KS just to buy back Vanguard, fix it up and relaunch it I'd be way more likely to donate

Themeparks? You kidding me?  Vanguard was the closest thing to a sandbox as there is.  No game compares to it.  I feel like I got socked in the stomach hearing this sad news.  Many sleepless nights, many wonderful memories during that time of my life.

But the point is:

In the top 10 money making games (and most listed here on MMORPG.com), all but ONE is sub-only (WOW).

And wow is only #7, and making less than half compared to LoL.

This pretty much shows that to make money, F2P beats P2P, and often you don't even need a virtual world.

Of course F2P will more then likely make more money, why? Becuase they nickle and dime you to death thus adding up quickly.  You want to press the play button? Thatll be 5 dollars.  You want to create an additional character? Thatll be 10 dollars.  You want to accept that quest? Thatll be 5 dollars.  You want to loot that item or use an item? Thatll be 5 dollars.  MMOs or any RPG is built on the idea that we go after loot/items/appearance stuff therefor theres a supply and demand for it and developers know they can charge for it.  If someone really wants an item but has to pay for it, they will simply because its there but only for a price.

I personally hate Free to play.  For many reasons, 1 being the community goes to hell.  Players are worse caliber, and in my opinion, the content we get is of worse quality(Rift is good but thats the only F2P game that has a decent model)

So, it shouldnt be a surprise that a f2p game will make more money.  Thats simply because you have to pay for every little thing you do(minus the one game I mentioned)  Its pathetic in my eyes.  Total BS

I've played several F2P MMO's and other types of F2P games without spending a penny. If you're the type of player who has no impulse control, I can see why you'd think that you have to spend money on every little thing.

I've played many F2P games and the ONLY game I have spent any money in was Everquest 2 and that was for an appearance set of armor.  Other then that, I havent spent a penny because I cannot stand the dumb f'ng nickle and diming that companies turn into when they go F2P.

Like I said, want to create another toon? 5 bucks, want another hotbar? 2 bucks, want more then 5 hotkeys? 10 bucks, want this? 20 bucks, want that? 10 bucks, want to lick my chode? 10 bucks, want to stroke my a$$hole? 10 bucks... I mean come on... The idea of Free to play is cool but when you realize that they actually make you spend more to get what you were getting with a sub, thats just highway robbery.   I still do not understand how ppl defend F2P games... I just dont get it.  Get a damn job and pay a sub and youll get more then what you need vs a free to play game where you HAVE To spend more to get equivalent of what youd get in a sub game...

I find it funny that people complain about animations yet the most successful mmo - WoW has some of the worst animations on top of the hideous graphics.  Its like watching blobs just twitch... Terrible.

  • Turbine are consistently lying to its playerbase.
  • Turbine refuse to make any more group content and is bleeding players because of it; their replacement for end-game content, big battles, are shockingly bad.
It's time to give this beloved IP to another developer to salvage something from it. Turbine used to be an excellent dev but I no longer recognise this company.

Sounds a LOT like the Everquest 2 Devs.... Sadly.  And I wouldnt even call eq2's last 3 expansions "expansions"   They are smaller then game updates....

THE ONLY REASON WOW WILL NOT BE KILLED BY ANY GAME IS, WHO THE HELL WANTS TO START OVER AFTER 10+ YEARS IN A VIDEO GAME THAT'S STILL ACTIVE, GROWING AND EXPANDING?! Also, I want Wildstar to win at least 500K subs a month, that's it. Don't need anymore, just don't have 100000 servers....

Growing?  Sorry buddy, WoW is not growing any more.  Its going downhill and quick

I sure as hell hope not.  I am so sick an tired of developers going the cartoon route and think the game is pathetic looking.  In every aspect minus it being Sci fi is it WoW 2.0.  Have fun with it but I will not be touching it.  It gets under my skin how shitty this game looks and how hyped ppl are over it when in reality its just another WoW type game, even more cartoonish graphics.

In my opinion, Free-to-play = terrible quality and quantity.  Its been proven already that a F2P game shells out worse quality and quantity.  Look at any game on the market that turned F2P from a sub structure.  The game simply isnt good as it was prior to the change.

I personally cannot stand F2P.  For starters in brings in all the childish morons to spam your chat channels with non sense and badger those playing the game.  Id much rather pay 15 a month and enjoy all the content were given vs a f2p game that makes you buy every little thing.

You want to create a character? Oh thatll be 5 dollars, you want an extra character? Oh thats another 10 dollars, you want to use the chat system in the game? Oh that 10 dollars, oh you want to use the AH, oh thats 10 dollars, oh you want to wipe your own ass? thatll be 5 dollars.  Its highway robbery and I cannot staaaaaaaand Free to play games.  Another thing Ive noticed is that when games are free to play, the players expect a bunch of stuff when in reality they arent going to get it or they have a sense of entitement.... Free to play, the bane of any decent mmo.

NOTE: This is not a hardcore versus casual thread.

When people bring up new ways MMOs should grasp an audience, especially recently with EQNext, a lot of people will jump up and down with their hand raised and when asked to give an answer..bring back the feel of Everquest. The first 3D MMO ever made..yet never been expanded on it's original formula outside of maybe Vanguard. So that brings me to my question..was EQ just nostalgia or was it really that good of an MMO? Possibly a combination? Are the mechanics/gamestyle just too outdated for modern gamers? I'm curious!

My personal opinion, [mod edit] I've realized while some things are indeed dated: I've seeing stuff that I don't ever see in any MMO, even 15 years later. Some modernization on small things are needed (command prompts for everything, really?), but all in all the game is still a solid experience even in it's skeleton. I don't see myself dropping it down anytime soon.

So yeah, discuss!

EQ IS the king of all MMO's even more so then UO.  3D MMO's that is. Its the game that started it all.  The entire aspect of the game still beats many MMO's, if not all MMO''s currently out.

No instancing

Massive open zones

None of this BS "bind" gear

GROUP oriented and it was difficult.

You actually grew as a server, you knew a lot of players by their names vs nowadays you probably cant remember the last name of a person you grouped with because of the cross-server BS.

Actual player trading and communication.

You actually feel like you accomplished something or had that sense of satisfaction/accomplishment when you got a new item unlike today gear is just thrown to you with ease so you dont get that feeling anymore.

I could go on and on and on.  To this very day, it still beats a ton, if not all MMOs out in a lot of things.  If you werent there when it was in its prime you surely missed out on the greatest MMO ever created.

The gameplay feature I miss the most, well not the most but one that sticks out in my mind is that in EQ, you could attack pretty much anything, basically how Skyrim is.  You could go into a city and attack guards, class trainers, the head honchos of the city, and they actually dropped stuff.  They were challening as well.  It gave it a true open epic feeling to it.  Now games your basically restricted to only attacking monsters in the world.  Very linear gameplay now :(  Man I miss EQ... I truly do.

It's deck-building. They tested a lot of different numbers for the hotbar loadouts. Six per bar balanced best with the number and variety of skills every character will have available to them. Has nothing to do with consoles. Twelve skills lets you build a role from tons of options and limits them to a playtested amount in order to not have everyone running around spamming every skill they know. It's deck building, role creation, and a focus on resource-based, dynamic combat. It's awesome.

With this system you can create a character who can be many different things, but not everything at once.

It's really not like other mmorpgs.

This right here alone has me very excited to play the game.  You can try so many different builds youll be unique unless people go for cookie cutter builds.  But in this game, you can be creative with your character vs other games where you pick a set class and thats your toon.

Your right , its not like other mmorpgs.

Its inevitable to face zerg type gameplay in a PvP game.   Its apart of war.  Great example, look at the military.  We dont send 1 guy over to a country, we send an entire force when going into a war.  Its just the nature of it and itll happen in games as well.  Its smart if you think about it.  Strength in numbers.

Yes.  Is paying for a video game before trying it outrageous?  I'll let you finish that sentence.

Out of curiosity, how often do you go into a restaurant, order food, and then not pay for it?

You don't know that there won't be an open beta. You don't know that there won't be a free trial. And in either case, what does the NDA have to do with it? Lifting the NDA won't enable you to try the game. If all you are after are other peoples' opinions, videos and screenshots, you can get that at any time after the NDA is lifted. What's the difference if it is now or the day before launch?

Thats 1 of the main issues I have with the newer generation of gamers is that they put so much stock in screenshots, videos, and the largest thing - other peoples opinions when all it is is their own opinion instead of playing the game and forming their own.  You wont know if you like something unless you try it as that goes with anything in life.  How do you know you wont like ketchup if you dont try it or sausage, or whatever.  You have to try it and form your own opinion vs listening to what someone else has to say.  Take it for what its worth, an opinion but dont let it sway you in one way or another on purchasing/playing a game.

You see this is any games chat channels now.  "Whats the best tank" "whats the best healer" "whats the best this"  "whats the best that"....Its sad.  Really sad.  People put more stock in someone elses view and opinion then forming their own.

Or maybe unlike all other developers(minus blizzard), they arent going to let the public banter and BS affect their decisions on whether to release info or not.  I commend them for that if thats what theyre doing.   Just because we buy the product, doesnt mean are entitled to anything as many people think.  People have a sense of an entitlement in these games and its sad.
