i disagree on the pay to win thing. I regularly beat the gold tanks with my normal ones. Sure they are tough, but tactics will win out over that every time.

And the best part is most people that buy the gold tanks are terrible at tactics anyways :)

I am not exactlty happy with the matchmaker but even in a T10 battle my t6 KV-1S can damage the 10's  Not a lot, but if you have a smart team, your distraction can bring the other big tanks in to take out the enemy.

Skill outweighs rank and gold every time.

I just wish i didn't have to spend $40 to buy 2 games i don't want (Arma 2 and the expansion) to try this game!

Please figure out a way to make it more accessible DayZ !!! I would love to play a game like that. It sounds awesome.

I definitely miss the days of death meaning something. EVE is certainly the closest right now. EQ1 was awesome. You definitely did not want to die in that game.

Man, imagine a recreation of NYC, but with zombies.  Being able to hang out in famous locations like the Smithsonian or Chinatown  and gun down undead would be pretty sweet.

That is asking a lot from a small independent publishing house. That is a LOT of work to make that much content.

It would be much easier to do a cookie cutter type randomly generated city. Only a dozen or so different building types randomly scattered around a small city with random amounts of damage.

Still a lot of work though. It would be cool to have a Walking Dead style MMO.

Have to scavenge for supplies, sneak around large groups, worried about making too much noise, guilds would form up as your little survival group. Random radio messages talking about safe places that are really far away. Full PVP, No levels though. That way when you die, you have to play as a zombie until you die again, then respawn as a new survivor.

It could be awesome.

Too bad it is a console game. Get it on Steam!

It is pretty sad. This game did have a lot of promise. I find it amazing that 200 people got fired instead of working on more content. I mean 200 people should be able to pop out new content pretty fast.

I actually saw an interview or something that said that they are going to add more space battle equipment or something... FOR WHAT?!?!

They really screwed up this game by not slowing down the exp. They could have bought themselves so much time if they would have made it so you DIDN'T level out of the content long before you finished the planet. If people were still working on hitting max level.. at least the casual players, they would have been so much better.

The other HUGE problem was the lack of PVP. Arena battles suck. Thad built in faction warfare. All your missions were already fighting the other faction. IF we would have been doing the same quests it would ahve made the game amazing.

I spent about 3 weeks at max level and it sucked. There was almost an entire planet of quests i had to go through and gained no exp because i was already level 50. It was stupid. And that was just so i could get to the Ilum to do stupid repeat crap.

It is obvious that the people working on the game were NOT gamers. Definitely not PVP MMO gamers.

And honestly, it was not that great of graphics or animations.

Too bad , so sad.

Wow a whole update for a group finder when there is no  content to do. Even worse, as soon as you do a PVP round you lose your group.. unless they fix that too.

This might actually be useful if there were enough content that required more than 1 person. Now that everyone is already 50 though it seems rather pointless.

They need a reason for me to come back. This would require a significant revamp of the worlds so there is a reason for open PVP like overlapping quests - attack the rebels, rebels defend the outpost etc.

I will be driving one of these.

This might just be the best game in the history of the universe.

Now if they would just get it done so i can play dammit!!!

So awesome that i am not playing anymore. I think you have to be a major fanboy to enjoy the new patch.

For all you guys that were talking about how much I suck to get 0 -0 -0 -0. Keep in mind that if you get shut out in a match you don't have much choice.

Happened to me twice last night. Once on Huttball, and a second time on Whatever the ship one is. Didn't score a point in huttball. Mainly because our healers couldn't keep themselves alive long enough to heal anyone... not to mention some people are ALWAYS immune to stuns and slows.

On the ship one we couldn't get past the first doors.

Sometimes you just get a bad group. And it doesn't matter how awesome you are, you get nothing if your team fails. My Sorc friend had almost 300k in healing and still ended up with nearly nothing for rewards. I had over 100k in damage, second on my team and i still got next to nothing.  And of course i have the full set of armor. Not Battlemaster. But at this rate of gain it will be impossible to get it. Me and my 2 sorc friends were always on the top of the damage, kills and healing pre-50. Even after 50 we were always near the top.

My healer spec friend is writing down the results of every pvp match since 1.2 and i think it is just making it worse. It is like rubbing salt in your wounds.

I think my bigger problem is that the PVP thing is just cheese. This is Star Wars. Why in the world are we restricted to stupid arena battles? Why isn't there more of a reason.. from level 10 to mix it up on the planets?

I have played DC Universe and still have a character on there. PVP is so much more fun. You run around doing quests/missions and there is always some enemy out there to fight with. The complexity is not great on the game but they really did the PVP side of it right. There is no need to do the arena battles. You do enough in between.

When it comes to the rest of SWTOR i think it pales in comparison to SWG. Everything about SWG was deeper than this game is. Everything from the way you gathered crafting materials, to the crafting complexity itself, to the player housing, to the player cities, combat complexity.. the only thing that was lacking is the story. It was much more of a sandbox game.

I definitely miss SWG...

And then there is Planetside... and Planetside 2. PS2 will be the defining PVP game of the decade for sure. At least the people developing PS2 actually played MMO's and PVP before....Not sure the people at Bioware ever have.

Obviously you have not read the patch notes.  You can go to the PvP vendor on the Republic and Imperial Fleet and buy a full set of blue "Recruit" PvP gear for nothing but credits.

This gives you enough PvP stat (Expertiese) to hold your own in any warzone.  It is the equivilant armor of the old Centurian gear with the Expertiese stats of the old Champion gear.

You can outfit yourself (every slot) for under 150,000 credits.  You are going into warfronts with green PvE gear when this is easily available to you and complaining about it.

I'm in a guild with several people who just hit 50 and they are enjoying the ease of entry that this new gear provides to warzones.

Uh, yeah got that stuff and basically gave away the stuff i had worked for weeks to get and bought all that the first time i logged in. Thanks.

And Ali

I was fine with having to work toward getting gear. I do have a problem with simply because my team sucked and we lost that i get ZERO benefit for a round. At least before when we lost, people like me got decent rewards for the round. Now i do as much as i did before and get 4 commendations and 35 credits. Thanks. But that just isn't fun.

I have been playing MMO's since StarFleet Command. Long before  Everquest. I also played EQ1, EQ2, and pretty much everything up until WoW came out. Never did that one.

One of the things i have found about good MMO's is they have more to their endgame than PVP Arena Battles and incremental skrimping and saving to buy gear just to be able to compete.SWTOR could ahve been so much better.

How hard would it have been to make all the Faction quests overlap? Basically force open world PVP. You never know if the quest you are doing is going to have a real player defending the base or fighting against your side. They definitely should never have made it so you can level out of the content so easily. It should have been that you HAD to PVP or do the Heroics to maintain your level to the PVE content.

And i totally disagree that you need to grind pvp arenas for endgame. Why not do it like EQ. Zone/World Bosses give you the best equipment. Do epic quest lines to get the best equipment. Anything is better than play an entire round of PVP be 2nd on your team for damage and get  0-0-0-0 on your reward. I am definitely not an AFKer. I am one of the few that is actually trying to do the objective in the same 3 tired, boring pvp arenas. The guys i play with know what they are doing when it comes to MMOs and PVP and we all see that the way they did this sucks. Warhammer had better PVP!

I think it is funny that the one guy thinks that i am a whining kid because i think spending an entire night grinding through a game and getting next to no reward for it is stupid.

My idea of Endgame is more like the original EQ model. Huge epic raids or quests that take people that know what they are doing, working hard but having fun to get to the pinnacle of the game... then they come out with an expansion so you have more to do.

Or maybe like Planetside were you work your way up to be part of the decision makers that determine the course of the Meta-Game of global domination.

Or how about EVE, with their Nullsec anarchy of trying to eke out a living farming obscure systems for resources to defend against the encroaching piracy of a rival Organization bent on blasting you out of your player made base and taking that system for their own.

Some people have been max level in SWTOR since the second or third week!  I play MMO's because of the fact that they don't just end like a single player game. And they have something to work towards. This maybe i can buy a better helmet that is exactly like this other guy's that has marginally better stats that what I already have.

I am just saying that 12 years after the Original Everquest, i expect more out of my MMO's. Not less.

I am a casual player of SWTOR. I game 2-4 nights a week and that is it.

I hit 50 before i got to Corellia. Hadn't done a single Heroic since level 25, and just did 3-4 PVP rounds a night. Every quest i have done since about level 25 has yielded green stuff that I couldn't use because i outleveled it all. But i kept going because i like the story.

When i hit Corellia and had to slog through all that great content the whole 0 xp gained thing started really bugging me.

Then i started Level 50 PVP... The whole way through the game they go out of their way to balance it so at least you have a fighting chance in a PVP round. Well That is all gone at level 50.

You jump on a guy, he is already damaged, you throw everything you have at him, he ignores you, finishes off the guy he is killing then turns and kills me in 3 hits. Fun...

At least i was gaining Valor points, Commendation, and money. I usually had a pretty balanced W:L record though. Good healers made a lot of difference.

Then 1.2 hits. All the PVE stuff i am still suffering through is there. Now i go do some PVP and find.. Oh look it is even worse now.

My healer friends can barely keep themselves alive, let alone help me out at all.

My damage doesn't seem to do much ... still.

Instead of getting more kills than deaths i am getting way more deaths.

At the end of 2 nights of PVP. 10 rounds. I have gained a total of 100 Valor and Commendation points and almost no money. Zero wins. When i got more than my 4 medals i got 35 commendations and 100 credits. If i got less than my 4 medals i got zero. Nothing.

I think they are trying to make me quit. I was already looking at a tough uphill battle to get geared out. Now it will be impossible. People that have no gear yet might as well just unsubscribe. You are totally ineffective in PVP. You can be the best team player on the planet but it won't matter.

My Sorc Healer buddy gets the best healing points on the round and still got 0 commendations, valor, or credits.

So I guess i am looking for a new game. It was hard to keep playing before. After 1.2 i would have to be a masochist to want to play anymore.

SWTOR has 4 problems in my expert opinion.

#1 - It is too easy. They made the content so easy that there is no reason to form a group. They have the Heroic quests but most people don't even bother doing them because of Item #2.

They should have made the content require grouping... at least a little.

#2 Leveling is too fast - If you do all of the regular quests on a planet - not Herioc - You level out of the content too fast. When you add in the Heroics and a couple PVP rounds, you are literally almost gray to the content by the time you hit level 20. This is only made worse by the powergamer type. I am a casual player and have to say it if very disappointing that by doing all the of the questing and some PVP, every single quest reward is useless to me. I don't even have anything to spend the cash on.

They should have made it so you HAVE to do PVP or the Heroics just to maintain level for the content. It would ahve also slowed down the game a little so the Developers could work on the important stuff. I am level 50 and still have an entire planet of content to get through before i can get to endgame pve content. So now i am doing all these required quests and get the 0 exp gained message every time i kill something. Fun....

#3 PVP is poorly executed. They have the perfect setup for PVP. Imp vs Rebel. Why did they keep us apart? Why didn't they make the quests the same? I attack a rebel outpost to do a quest, Rebels have a quest to defend the outpost and vice-versa. It is so simple! Imagine how awesome it would be to actually see an enemy in open world? And the higher the levels get, the more interaction is required.

Battlegrounds/Warzones are fun but the repetition gets old fast. More interations would ahve made this so much cooler.

#4 Endgame sucks - They do everything they can to keep things balanced in the first 40 levels of PVP then when you hit 50 is goes out the window. You can go to a WZ and unload everything you have on a guy and he just shrugs it off turns and kills you in 2 hits. I am just getting into the endgame stuff and i find almost zero desire to log in. It just isn't fun like i used to be.

I don't know what the solution to this is. But i know it isn't fun.

Just my expert opinion.

Anyone that played Star Wars Galaxies from the beginning knows that SW can do MMORPG great.

SWG was a far superior game in everthing but storyline.

Worlds were truly open and pretty awesome.

Crafting was by far the most innovative and rewarding of any MMO ever.

Player Cities was revolutionary

Even your own house was awesome.

Gameplay and skill tree/progression was great until they started changing it.

The really killed the game when they tried to re-do the whole combat thing. It was not very well thought out.

I quit SWG when I couldn't advance any more in the skills i wanted because i was out of skill points. I would had to start giving up the skills i loved in order to advance anymore.

I think Bioware just didn't realize how big the game needed to be. They though just adding more maps was going to equal more MMO. It would have been so easy to have people doing the same quests from each side.

Do a quest to kill republic troopers on Tatooine in a facility supporting the Empire. Meanwhile the Republic people have a quest to kill the empire troops supporting the republic. Bingo, instant open world PVP. Instead we get this you only realize that the other side is on the same planet when you try to uncover the whole map.

I think it should be a requirement that you have to actually play MMO games before you can get a job making them.

This is why i have such high hopes for Planetside 2. All those guys making the game loved the original.

It is a bummer. The game is decent. But it gets old.

I am still playing. I have a few friends that i do PVP with and at least chat on Ventrilo so it isn't comepletely boring. I just wish there was more open world PVP. I have run into a few people but not many.

I am on Belsavis now and there are allegedly 10-18 people in there at night. I have only seen 1 or 2.

They say that there is endgame stuff to do. I sure hope so.

I can't wait for Planetside 2. It can't come soon enough for me.

They did say they "Hope" there is no box fee. I would be willing to drop some cash on a box though.

PS1 was an Epic game. I honestly can't remember another game that gave me so many amazing memories. I started the game on day 1 and loved it. Lag was definitely an issue though.

I am pretty sure that the EVE model has resolved the Lag issue. Although i can tell you that i have witnessed lag on EVE. During a Zerosec fleet event we had about 100 ship per side in an amazing Jumpgate battle and there as definitely some lag there.

I have been back to PS1 recently and was in many battles with over 100 people in it and it was great. I feel confident that they will be able to work through that.

In the meantime i am counting down the minutes until i can once again strap on a MAX and tear some stuff up.

TR for Life!

I would love to find a Browser Based MMO that was worth playing... what are they?

I feel like there should be anothe page to this article. A list of games with a paragraph or 2 explaining why we should check them out. I wonder if these Column writers get paid.

Simple facts peeps. Hackers can get into any computer at any time. Even the dorks on Macs. Anyone that thinks their data is safe is on crack.

THE PENTAGON WAS HACKED!!!

You think that the Pentagon has relaxed security? SImple facts, your data is at risk all the time. It is NOT the fault of the company that gets hacked. It is the fault of the hackers. The only thing that the company can do is everything it knows how to do. I find it amazing that everyone is crucifying Sony when the next time something comes up they are going to complain about how much money it costs. How much do you think security costs?

What it all boils down to is that you need to be aware of what is going on with your financials. There are dozens of companies out there that offer fraud protection for less than we are paying for our monthly subscription fees. Every Credit Card company has fraud protection. IF you find a bad transaction you can get it removed easily.

It is all part of living in the electronic world. Get over it!!

What i am ticked about is there is no estimate on when the servers are going to be back up!!! I need my MMO fix dammit!

I have read that article and I sit back scratch my head and wonder why.  I have seam loaded on my comp it is always running. My friends that I know in steam can see what I am playing at all times, mmo's or fps.   So we already have that you just have to enable it for what you are doing.

Now I have to ask Bill why do we need a united community across all mmo's? In my experience I find folks who play eve are of a certain mind set, and those for the most part do not mix with say fantasy types who are off killing orcs.   I just find it laughable that we need something like this, as were talking about diverse games/genres that not all folks would want to communicate with each other.  Even in steam you have sub communities that you can join.

Oh well one last thing, please no more prop ups for Stalzer from that you know corporation, I for one who could care less about that organization/person, and to keep throwing that name in our face is starting to get old really quickly.

Possibly you are correct the entire article being a pip dream.

Not really true Eric. Most of my MMO friends have been through all of those games including EVE. I don't think that MMO's are as segregated as you think.  And if you have a cool multi-game guild it is even better!
