Whats wrong with "creating pride"?  DAOC had one of the best communities of any mmo ever.  Now GW2 for a modern mmo has a pretty good community too (in game not on forums), but it aint no daoc community wise.  The no player names is a big part of that, glad they changed that, what they need to do next is only shuffle the servers when needed, if pairings work, leave them be.

Gear is not the only carrot on a stick. The term means something placed in front of you as an incentive to do a task.

From level 1 DaoC guided you to PvP end game, the entire thing was based on that single incentive and as for someone ELSE creating YOUR pride...lol, give me a break. The carrot is so big you cant even see it, it takes up your entire field of view.

As for your, never played DaoC BS that I must have never played it since I didn't like it. Please remind me how many backers Jacobs got for  Camelot Unchained? 14k?

14k out of 250k DaoC players are willing to back a new DaoC....guess the game only REALLY had 14k players since anyone that played it MUST have loved it.

Umm? Now, bashing CU is uncalled for (also, DaoC is not CU), you do have to understand that not many people like to pledge money towards a project that has not even been started too much risk involved in such things.

Now look at the numbers released.

Q1 saw 166.3 million in sales with America at 13% of that market. 13% of 166.3 is $21,619,000.00. If that was just from box sales it would be 432,466 copies sold.

So, in America alone they made over 400k copies worth of income. Not bad seeing its a decrease from the previous share of their income from that market...a market inflated by a new games release at that time.

All the more reason they should release a new expansion and increase their revenue :P. Most people who wanted to buy the game already have and if most of those people avoid spending money in their cash shop, the best way to get them to spend money is through DLCs.

Server populations are up after each release and those forums you speak of are also filled with people that love the udpates. They could release an update the size of 3 expansions and there will be someone out there that isn't going to like it.

This article is about NCSoft as a company, not about just GW2. America and Europe is down YoY only because of the massive drops in populations of GW1, Lineage 1 & 2, Aion and Blade and Soul...and the shutdown of City of Heroes.

Try to keep in mind that GW1 was at over 6 million at its peak, its down under 1 million now, to see only an 8% drop shows how popular GW2 is, because its stemming the flow of people leaving the companies other games.

I agree 100% with killion81. We might see an expansion sooner than they have originally planned, but I still think it will be closer to the release of The Elder Scroll Online or Final Fantasy 14.

Grinding for Legendary gear isn't what I call fun though, I have exalted gear on all my toons and have done all the dungeons on both explore mode and story. What I find enjoyable is the story, which is what I am expecting from the upcoming expansion.

What I read is : I've played too much of this game and I'm bored. Why not take a break? Play or do something else. Come back in three months. 

I did all that months ago :P. There isn't any new story elements there to keep me playing the game anymore, that's why I am waiting for the expansion to start playing again :P.

I've played it from launch to two months post. I know whats going on with the game. I follow the updates and patches constantly. When ever I see a new content patch, I jump back in for enough time to check it all out then I play a different game. That is perfectly fine for me until major content gets added. What I am saying is we dont need an expansion in its first year. I could see it maybe Oct 2013+. They are adding lots of content each month. Just because you yourself don't want to do it doesn't mean they aren't adding anything.

A dungeon here and there isn't the kind of content I want. I want more pve type stuff that progress the story like killing another one of those dragons. What I enjoyed the most in GW2 was the leveling portion of the game, and that is the kind of content I want. I am sure they won't release it right away though, they might be waiting closer to The Elder Scroll Online to launch to actually release the expansion.

Its quite a lot for your average MMO. What other MMo is releasing signiifcant content so frequently?

I didn't compare it to other MMOs, I want to see the same about of content they released for GW1 expansions in GW2. Also, it will yield a good revenue boost for them.

Only way you could have gotten into the beta 1 with your old game is if you subbed for a certain amount of time. Don't worry though early June beta 3 starts and they will be inviting a lot of people into that one.

That sounds odd, if you were accepted into the beta, your account should be automatically activated. You just have to go to their website and login to your account and download the game.
