Looks like there is going to be a plethura of achievements.

Do we get to wear those titles like the titles in the past? Like the old pvp army rank titles? Sergent, Private, Grand-Marshall etc.

Well done, Girls can troll too it would seem.

AoC failed because of false representation. TCoS will succeed because no one knows what to expect exactly, and will be surprised when they get a chance to play.

People could be surprised and not like the surprise. TCOS will do fine but I'm not expecting it to be even competitive with Final Fantasy now.

What they do with content updates and if they grow in subscribers like EvE does when releasing expansions will tell me whether or not it will become that competitive.

Competitiveness is an after thought for me. I'm not monetarily invested in any of these companies. I think Hellgate: London is a fun game, and i'm not nearly as cynical as some.

If i like it, i'll just hope it gets enough business to stay in business, since its not going to have a single player option.

Take away the 'bank' mechanic and force people to store stuff in player made towns and it works.   I've seen a town completely leveled in wurmonline(takes a lot spite and time to do this(beta)) because that town supported a random ganker,  since then anyone who joins the game for griefing gets tamed or is to busy keeping themselves fed and their storage house maintained to do anything else(after all no town wants them).

If for some reason you need to make a mass market game just have your base punishment for death be dropping one item,  then after killing one person you'll lose a bit of experiance and an extra item.   With more the penalty gets stacked again.    You just need to make killing someone have enough of a penalty where it will have to of been personal for the person to have to of done so.

Gonna give Wurm a try tonight. Social system sounds pretty awesome. Sounds like a lot of the things i've wanted in an MMORPG, but last time i checked Wurmonline, i don't think it was live yet. Its letting me connect now.

As far as full loot systems go, I thought Mythics Entertainments DFC was the best ruleset i had played with full loot.

First, you could not kill your own realm mates.

Second, any items in your bank were safe, only stuff you carried was in danger.

Third, after you were killed, enemies and allies could loot you, and there was no auto loot function. Reinforced realm pride as your friends could help save your stuff.

Fourth, It was not that easy to attack another realm. You couldn't just hop over to another realm and start stealing peoples gear. Once you were on enemy lands, you would have to wait for the next boat before you could leave. So if you were spotted, you were being hunted by the whole realm usually. Plus, people would spend hours chatting with the guild watching the docks, waiting for boats of invaders to arrive.

There was no epic gear. Certain creatures droped certain gear. If you lost everything, you could build yourself back up to a decent set of gear in a couple days. But usually you didn't have to worry because the attackers took all the risk coming to your realm with no quick escape. Invaders would not come to an enemies realm in their best gear, they would come in the best gear that was easiest to replace.

So, there were boundaries. There were hard set allies you could trust and build loyalties with. There was a high price to invade another realm, and the invaders took all the risk. Defenders had places to secure their best gear (banks). This system worked great.

Other games i've played with full loot were FFA PvP. Those places were horribly cutthroat. Logging in was painful. A good night was inching closer to a skill level that could compete with the PKs that would wipe you out nightly. FFA PvP with full loot is horrible usually. People have very little self control, or self imposed boundaries for the betterment of the game.

Full Loot works, with the right ruleset and loot tables.

In all honesty I think they have poor management. I dare not start an argument so I won't state my reasons.

I agree. They have made no effort to keep the hype going and interested gamers up to date and informed. You never see anyone from that company posting on this site in the CoS forum.

North Americans are so good at whining.  Plenty of buzz about TCoS in Europe.

did anyone mention that Square Ennix also makes single player games where you need to grind once in a while?

Some call it grinding, some call it a reason to play around with your spells and abilities.

18+ hour boss obviously is dumb though.

Honestly, there is no reason not to try it. Since it will have a Free to Play area to test it.

Won't have to put in credit card info or anything, just download and play likes its free.

Also, I agree Coffee. Its the one title I didn't want to see released so close to Lich King, but its also the one title i think has the least to fear from Lich King. Its not another clone of the EQ style gameplay.

Personal Rant:

MMO's need to administer an IQ quest at time of registration.  Your score must be shown by your character name in the LFG window.  Ditto for BG's and just about everything else that involves cooperation or player-player interaction in the game. Also, if you don't pass a certain score, you can't use the public chat channels.

If you don't "pass", you can still play, but with a slightly adjusted field of options to match your level of mental adeptness.  Questions base should be a randomly generated set of 10-20 to prevent a straight-up answer list from being posted online somewhere.  But it doesn't matter if you can find the individual answers online via google or wikiepedia, if the player has the resources and motivation to look for them, they should be just fine.

I'm not being an elitest here, just pragmatic.  The IQ test should be a standard one and need not involve MMOs or knowledge of computers in general.  After all, the actual in-game technical issues can be learned in time assuming you're intellectually viable.

This problem seems to be the most dire in WoW considering the large player base.  With things like L2, LoTRO, and WAR that appeal only to niche gamers, there's an expect level of "professionalism" amongst the gamers because everyone came from the same background, and the few who didn't tend to be small enough in population not to spoil much.

Discuss.

Anyone with a basic level of intelligence knows about the ignore command. Someone who does not know how to use /ignore, or doesn't know how to adjust their chat channels to support a fun gaming environment for themselves, is someone I would not want in my groups or guild.

People like this beg for things without ever taking the initiative to solve the problem themselves. They are the worst form of MMO gamer, the moocher, the whiner.

Often we see our attitudes reflected by those around us. Maybe its not the people in these games, but you who have the issues?

One of the most eagerly awaited online role-playing games is approaching the final stretch in its development. The German, English and French versions of The Chronicles of Spellborn are scheduled for release on November 27th, 2008 in Europe. In preparation of the release, the innovative fantasy MMORPG has started into the next phase of the closed beta tests along with a large content patch Wednesday, 17th of September..

The update brings along substantial advancements in the class system, the quest architecture, the fame system and the combat gameplay as well as improvements on art and general game mechanics lifting the game onto a new level of gameplay experience. During the upcoming weeks, developer Spellborn NV and publisher Frogster will invite more selected registered community members into the closed beta tests. A detailed beta and release schedule for The Chronicles of Spellborn will be announced shortly. Interested fantasy adventurers can register via the brand new beta registration on www.tcos.com to get the chance to have a look at the game before the actual release.

Chronicles of Spellborn doing what other developers rushed their products to avoid(AoC, War).

May not be releasing on the same day, but its within two weeks of the expansion is extremely close.

Developer(s) Blizzard Entertainment
Publisher(s) Activision Blizzard
Series Warcraft
Platform(s) Mac OS X, Windows
Release date(s) November 13, 2008

Only question in my mind now is, do i wait two weeks and try TCoS before the expansion? Or risk getting hooked into the expansion grind and probably not play TCoS till next year sometime?

Nice!!!! I might have to hold off on Lich King until after i've tried TCoS.

Mario Brothers MMO!

@Pbmark50 -

WOOOORTTTHHHYYY is not a correct spelling. Its spelled "worthy".

Also, WERE should be We're. For we are, not were.

As far as capitalization, please refer to the following rules.

Capitalization

Rule 1. Capitalize the first word of a quoted sentence.
Examples: He said, "Treat her as you would your own daughter."
"Look out!" she screamed. "You almost ran into my child."

Rule 2. Capitalize a proper noun.
Example: Golden Gate Bridge

Rule 3. Capitalize a person's title when it precedes the name. Do not capitalize when the title is acting as a description following the name.
Examples: Chairperson Petrov
Ms. Petrov, the chairperson of the company, will address us at noon.

Rule 4. Capitalize the person's title when it follows the name on the address or signature line.
Example:

Sincerely,

Ms. Haines, Chairperson

Rule 5. Capitalize the titles of high-ranking government officials when used with or before their names. Do not capitalize the civil title if it is used instead of the name.
Examples: The president will address Congress.
All senators are expected to attend.
The governors, lieutenant governors, and attorneys general called for a special task force.
Governor Fortinbrass, Lieutenant Governor Poppins, Attorney General Dalloway, and Senators James and Twain will attend.

Rule 6. Capitalize any title when used as a direct address.
Example: Will you take my temperature, Doctor?

Rule 7. Capitalize points of the compass only when they refer to specific regions.
Examples: We have had three relatives visit from the South.
Go south three blocks and then turn left.
We live in the southeast section of town.
Southeast is just an adjective here describing section, so it should not be capitalized.

Rule 8.

Always capitalize the first and last words of titles of publications regardless of their parts of speech. Capitalize other words within titles, including the short verb forms Is, Are, and Be.
Exception: Do not capitalize little words within titles such as a, an, the, but, as, if, and, or, nor, or prepositions, regardless of their length.
Examples: The Day of the Jackal
What Color Is Your Parachute?
A Tale of Two Cities

Rule 9. Capitalize federal or state when used as part of an official agency name or in government documents where these terms represent an official name. If they are being used as general terms, you may use lowercase letters.
Examples: The state has evidence to the contrary.
That is a federal offense.
The State Board of Equalization collects sales taxes.
We will visit three states during our summer vacation.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been subject to much scrutiny and criticism lately.
Her business must comply with all county, state, and federal laws.

Rule 10. You may capitalize words such as department, bureau, and office if you have prepared your text in the following way:
Example: The Bureau of Land Management (Bureau) has some jurisdiction over Indian lands. The Bureau is finding its administrative role to be challenging.

Rule 11. Do not capitalize names of seasons.
Example: I love autumn colors and spring flowers.

Rule 12. Capitalize the first word of a salutation and the first word of a complimentary close.
Examples: Dear Ms. Mohamed:
My dear Mr. Sanchez:
Very truly yours,

Rule 13. Capitalize words derived from proper nouns.
Example: I must take English and math.
English is capitalized because it comes from the proper noun England, but math does not come from Mathland.

Rule 14. Capitalize the names of specific course titles.
Example: I must take history and Algebra 2.

Rule 15. After a sentence ending with a colon, do not capitalize the first word if it begins a list.
Example: These are my favorite foods: chocolate cake, spaghetti, and artichokes.

Rule 16. Do not capitalize when only one sentence follows a sentence ending with a colon.
Example: I love Jane Smiley's writing: her book, A Thousand Acres, was beautiful.

Rule 17. Capitalize when two or more sentences follow a sentence ending with a colon.
Example: I love Jane Smiley's writing: Her book, A Thousand Acres, was beautiful. Also, Moo was clever.

They lost me at:

"Yes, Jedi Knights are cool and all, and they have nifty powers and abilities, but if everyone is a Jedi, it loses all meaning. Star Wars Galaxies is a textbook example of this, as it suffers from an overabundance of Jedi. However, BioWare should give the other classes (whatever they may be) a way to compete with Jedi that still maintains the integrity of the setting. Plus, it should be fun playing a bounty hunter, a scoundrel of a smuggler, or even a laser-rifle wielding princess. It might even be cool to be a droid. HK-47, anyone?"

Limited imagination concerning force sensitive races. They were so insightful and creative until this.

This is the real attemp at world PvP from blizzard since the begening of WoW.  And when blizzard put efforts in something, they get it right. This zone seems so well design and well thought that WAR will look like a 5 years old game in term of siege warfair. just browse Lake Wintergrasp on youtube you'll see for yourself. Will this zone be the best PvP experience of all MMOs?

Oh boy wait till the WAR fanboys see this post. Incoming " you only have 4 year old bgs and 3 arenas" attack

 *runs for cover*

LoL, soo true Obzerver.  I agree Malefacus 100%, Blizzard has earned my trust, all they can do now is keep it or lose it.

I'll build a wall down here to defend the truthfulness of this thread.

Ive been playing WAR for a few weeks now in beta and now in the prestart thing and will give it at least a month before I decide on it but one thing I do know is I hope all the pvpers come to WAR so WoW can focus on PvE. I never pvp in WoW mainly because its pointless, boring and the same thing for 3 years almost so of course its annoying to constantly have classes buffed/nerfed for the pvp crybabies so I hope WAR does well, we should all want it to do well. Bliz needs some competition and to get knocked off their high horse.

On a side note I must say that for those of you who sit in BGs all night in wow you're doing yourselves a disservice by not giving WAR a try, I can't stand to pvp in wow and in WAR Im constantly queuing up for scenarios(Bgs) in between my questing  and Ive only tried 1 so far in the tier 1 content. There are realm vs realm areas out in the open where you take over different objectives and your whole realm gets buffs when you control it and believe me its a lot more fun than lolsand or the halaa BS. I haven't seen the keep sieges and whatever else is at the later levels but this game is a lot of fun and I might just have to play it and Wotlk when it comes out.

"Contradictions do not exist. Whenever you think you are facing a contradiction, check your premises. You will find that one of them is wrong."

Going to coin some new terms here first.

Carebear = Pwny (for the show "My Little Pony" as well as what you do to them, own them)

PK = Punchkin (Combination of the Grief of  watching a Munchkin get punched.)

So, regardless of if your a Pwny or Punchkin, some people will approach the roleplay experience differently. Some will be casual, some will be hardcore regardless of being a pwny or punchkin.

Think its changing real soon. I keep seeing talk about 3.0+ patch.

Making OP threads like they even would care ???
Are they so afraid of WotLK ??? :))

-->>>>>previous post of the person above: "I am intending to build a new PC for WAR based on a damning response to a previous posting on my present specs. I'll ask it again just before i press the buy now button, now that there seems to be more people/opinions about said subject. I presently still have a pentium 4 3gz, with 2gb ram with a x800xt graphics card ( pc express).....what do you reckon"

RealPvP?--> Ice blocking a charging warrior, give him the finger and mount. Or mind control that annoying healer and let him jump to his own death. Now, that's PvP.

Ya, its pretty relentless. Only a handful of Warcraft boards that actually talk about the game anymore.... And this is not one of them.

Awesome.

You chase the forum troll south, into the corridor. It continues to flee east. You notice something shiny to the west.

Your are standing in a forum corridor. You hear the voices of many sleepless souls coming from various rooms along the corridors. You see signs posted above each room, but its too dark to read.

[north][south] east, west

You are carrying:

a candle stick

a box of matches

candle and wick

(ooc: This game is lame, where are all the purty graphics!!!!111!1)
