Battlegrounds are an added feature.

Don't like them?  Don't use them.  I don't see what the problem is.

Same with the Looking for Dungeon tool.  Don't like it?  Don't use it.  Run with your guild.

Then how else will I obtain the nice looking PvP gear?

If there was no incentive to deal with Battlegrounds, its overall population and appeal would GREATLY DECREASE.

Why do you think I went to school? For entertainment? No. It was for job security incentive.

Battlegrounds: Instanced 5v5 or so objective based PvP, e.g., Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch, Take the Hill, etc.

WHY DO PEOPLE ENJOY THIS?

#1. In BGs, there is NO element of surprise. Eveyrone is buffed up and expecting combat.

#2. In BGs, tactics are learned within a month. The scenario becomes a rinse/repeat cycle.

#3. In BGs, there are a limited number of maps. Everyone quickly learns every blade of grass, every hill, every tree, every typical hiding spot.

#4. In BGs, everything is redundant. Been there, done that... a thousand times.

Am I simply asking for World PvP? No. I'm asking for some creation depth - something outside the box. Battlegrounds/Arenas are so typical - so boring. It's seriously time for something new.

I'm coming back to AoC just for this.

Seriously.

First-Person mode is a big mistake. That alone is a major turnoff.

What they should do is create a unique SandBox-type game. That way they will dominate the entire MMO population with theme-park WoW and those who yearn for something new - titan.

About time...

Getting tired of these cash cow games post WoW that continue to fail.

This one is at least outside the box. Looking forward to it.

I was shocked to see that #3 was Darth Vader - lol   upper right portion of the game.

All I need now are numbers 11, 12, and 17!

I just don't know who else to ask.   Thanks.

They aren't going to make a "sticky" MMO out of EQ2.

#1. Brand: The SOE and EverQuest name is royaly tainted.

#2. Appeal: WoW, for some reason, appeals to everyone of all ages, tastes, and genres. Jocks play it, thugs play it, burnouts play it, nerds play it, grandparents play it, kids play it, everyone plays it. EQ2, on the other hand, has a much smaller scope of appeal. It's more geared towards the older "RP" type players - but not entirely.

#3. Graphics: Cartoon Vs. Detail. EQ2 was a very detailed game during its release. It was state of the art. However, the problem with detailed games is simple: they look terrible with age, whereas cartoonish looking games seem to have more sustain.

#4. Nickel and diming: SOE is known for chasing the buck - even at the expense of their current fan base. With constant microtransaction cash shops, xp potions, mounts, etc, it sort of takes some of the luster out of busting your butt in-game for anything.

If EQ2 wants to become a "sticky" game, they will need to completely change the name of it, construct some sort of sandbox mechanism, and go with it. They can't simply make a new class system and expect people to jump on EQ2. Nobody wants to touch that title now. It's too old.

Like Alienware, you get what you pay for..... extremely expensive logos.

Superb marketing for suckers.

Sup LotRO!

I was farting around with my wife's camera.

I've played guitar for almost 20 years. However, just recently started to make the transition to drums. I'm intermediate at best.

Anyways, here I am adding drums to one of my favorite old cartoons: The Hobbit.

This is funny.

If anyone mentions any sort of "depth" or "innovation", they get typecasted as a sandbox fan.

Am I looking for a SWG or EVE clone? No. However, I would like something more customizable.

Pros

#1. Graphics - While I'm more into the more "detailed" graphics, SWTOR does indeed have a decent look and is system friendly. The animations suck donkey balls. I seriously hope they have a build that fixes a lot of them particularly the running animations

#2. Voiced NPCs - While the size of the game might suck (GBs), at least it's more "absorbing". People will appreciate it in the beginning then grow tired of it real quick. Imagine playing the game for two years of pure voice acting. I don't think so

#3. Crafting - Is it as in-depth as something like SWG? No. However, it is innovative. The crew system and management features appear to be fantastic. Anybody mentioning SWG when talking about TOR should imidiately be dismissed as having nothing worthwhile to add.

Cons

#1. Linear Class System - I don't care about the few little skill trees that one can fart around with. The bottom line is this: You begin as a Ranger and end as a Ranger. There is absolutely no depth. Been there, done that. What about some type of customizable hybrid system? How about something other than everything else? You could make that same crusade against every tripple A MMO coming out now and In the future. Sorry this is not a sandbox game or has sandbox features

#2. Linear Story - Yeah, you can choose from a few different option. However, you are still locked into a 100% story progression. Other than a little fine tuning, you are told what to do, what to say, where to go, and when to do it. It's like reading a damn book and going through the motions. Sorry this is not a sandbox. You can crusade against all other non Sandbox MMO's coming out now and in the future

#3. Forced Companions - The devs stated that you will need certain companions to access certain quests. So IT IS forced. I've never seen a game where any companion or pet worked perfectly. Pets get caught up on walls, trees, hills, bushes, and are generally slow as hell. You have to monitor their health, armor, equipment, etc. It's just another thing to get in the way. Neat option? Sure. But neat FORCED option? No. This is a story driven game. have you played any of the other KOTOR games? Having companions tagging along enhanced the story.

#4. Space Combat - I remember when they released info that they are indeed creating Space Content. Wow! I was so happy. I couldn't wait for the details! It was like expecting the most perfect chocolate cake for your birthday. However, instead of your parents walking in with a candle lit cake, they walk in holding a giant c0ckmeat sandwich. ARE YOU SERIOUS? Didn't I play this on the N64? This is no different than Clone Wars Adventures Space Content - It's embarrassing to the game. It's very unrealistic to expect a free roam space sim on top of planet based exploration if this game should have any forseeable release date.

#5. Type-Casted Characters - I'd like to roll a damage dealing Sith Marauder. But wait... In order to obtain optimal DPS, I HAVE to use two lightsabers? I can't just use one? ;/ Why? They want folks to know exactly who's who upon examination. Not sure what you expect here. What would be the point of having dual lightsabers as an option if it didn't yield an advantage over having one.

#6. Locking Story - Story can be nice. However, in this case, it will lock us in. I'd like to roll a Rikkittikkitavi-whatever Warrior. However, that wouldn't make sense with the story. You see, they can't just let you be whatever race / class combo you want because of how the story is written. Doing so would call for drastic editing / revamping. Sorry this is not a sandbox game ..ahh forget it

#7. Daniel Erickson - "When did Han & Chewie ever say, 'Hey! let's go into space and just dick around.'" This idiotic remark just goes to show that they hold little value on exploration. They want whatever you are doing to be "heroic". Erm. When everything is heroic, nothing is heroic. Does this same remark apply to the ground game? See "con" point 4

#8. Battlegrounds - I hope you're ready for the epic 8v8 battle on the same 5 zones over and over and over again. Why people like this trash is beyond me (other than PvErs). My only break of fresh air is due to the promise of World PvP. However, we know nothing of the rule set. 8v8? How is that Massive Multiplayer? I can get bigger battles in Call of Duty or Quake Live. Sorry this is not a FFA PvP Sandbox game.

Ultimately, if George Lucas and Malcom in the Middle had a kid, it would SWTOR. This game is built under the "hold my hand" mentality. I'll buy it / play it simply because it's Star Wars. See "con" point 1.

lol, your responses are terrible. I stopped reading after the first few. You are just wanting to argue.

I remember when I posted a few negative remarks about FF14...before it came out. Lots of folk like you were quick to defend it.

Stating the same old points yet again... Why? Everyone with a working brain in his skull  knows it'll be more of a single player game with online capability then an MMO. Bioware is targeting its own audience. Their audiance is single player game people. Their specialty is single player RPGs.

They clearly aren't targgeting the Star wars online community. From the mass of whine threads i know (since i never played SWG) that ToR has nothing to do with SWG- the thing that build the SW online community.

There is no reason to whine anymore. If you played Mass effect 2 then you know what to expect. Add some guild wars single player experience to it and you have ToR.

I will buy this game. Like many other single player RPGs. I'll beat it. And then i'll judge if its worth subsribing too.

Would you pay $15.00 per month to play KotOR 1 or 2? No. You're nuts if you think they are designing this solely for the single player crowd.

I don't even know where to begin but this kills the game for me. 8v8's? Battlegrounds type PVP instead of open world? No thanks. I can't believe this is "Bioware's vision" as far as PVP is concerned. Everytime I read an article regarding SWTOR and the mechanics, almost every single one has turned me off more and more about the game.

Have fun with the multiplayer death matches in SWTOR guys. I think I'm going to go with Guild Wars 2 and Rift.

Bioware really needs to just stick with single-player RPG's.

lol at GW2. That game is nothing but an Item Shop / Battleground.

I hate battlegrounds, too. I despise them. They are sassy - everyone learns the best strat for each map and it becomes a rinse/repeat type thing.

I'll chill for a bit until they announce the World PvP ruleset.

I load up the main MMORPG.com home page. The ads are random, but you will almost always get some form of half-naked chick with 75% of her boobs being shown.

I'm not for or against it. I just thought I'd point it out.

Heyas!

I'm interested in Tera. The game looks great! However, there are some things I'd like to know.

I'd normally just search for the info myself, but I'm on the slooooowest laptop... it makes things very difficult and time consuming. I figured that I should just ask you guys.

Will be getting a gaming PC in Dec.

#1. I'm from the US. Is there any ETA on the US release?

#2. Any pre-order or extra bonus item incentives going on, e.g., register for beta and get an in-game title, etc?

#3. The PvP - Will there be any form of World PvP Server? I'm not too fond of Battlegrounds. However, I enjoy World PVP.

#4. Player Housing?

#5. Crafting?

#6. Player Economy?

I appreciate your time! Thanks all!

Interesting...

Diablo still isn't an MMO.

And as the poster above said. Blizzard employees thousands of people, you could get a whole lot of answers.

If Guild Wars and DDO are MMORPG, then so is Diablo

No, it isn't.

It's a single player RPG with limited online multiplayer capabilities.

In Diablo, you create or join dedicated "custom games" with a handful of other players. That handful of other players are all you will ever see in that custom game until any or all quit that particular game. You are not sharing a single server/shard/world with thousands of others whom you can interact with in real-time, simultaneously in the same virtual space.

Guild Wars supports thousands of players sharing the same world, separated into "channels" to reduce load in any one of them. You can see, talk to, trade and interact with dozens of other players in any given channel of any given hub area at will.

DDO has a similar setup.

Calling Diablo a MMORPG is like saying a bicycle is a passenger train.

Neverwinter Nights (the Atari one) is closer to being a MMORPG than Diablo, because you could have upwards of 100 people on a single custom server at the same time, sharing and interacting in the same space. Yet, Neverwinter Nights is not a MMORPG either. Like Diablo II, it's a single player RPG with limited online multiplayer capabilities.

WoW comes along and now people think any game with a multiplayer mode is a MMORPG.

Diablo 2's Multiplayer Battlenet is ultimately the same thing. You are in avatar chat with thousands via channel selection.
