Every MMO since WoW - Been there, done that...
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 7/23/08 8:53:51 AM
I just want something new. I feel every mainstream company that has the finances to create such a game will not due to the risks. Will people like it? Should we play it safe and keep it closer to WoW? Ugh!
I don't want to start off the game AND finish the game as a ranger. I want hybirds etc. The onl game I've ever seen that set a precedent in terms of uniqueness is old Star Wars Galaxies. I could dabble in Two-Handed words, player tracking, and rifles if I wanted to. I've thought of so many templates in the game; some good, some bad. We were allowed 1 character per server. This was due to the fact that our one character had the ability to learn and drop skills at will. I'm hoping the KOTOR will be similar. However, I know it won't be. |

Every MMO since WoW - Been there, done that...
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 7/23/08 8:44:37 AM
I know that WoW wasn't the original founder of this horrid system. You idiots could've been aware of this had you read the ENTIRE post. This is why I think WoW is dubbed the founder: WoW has a fanbase that consist of nerds, dorks, geeks, preps, prom kings, and celebrities. Anything older than WoW, like those pen and paper games & Ultima, wields 100% nerds, dorks, and geeks (pretty much everyone who has replied to this thread stating that WoW wasn't the first). WoW appeals to everyone, thus, is dubbed the founder. It's all the same crap. Every MMO company wants to profit and compete with the big dogs. It's clear that anyone who WANTS to be the best will take a LOOK at the best and wonder why he or she IS the best (WoW). Thus, every "big" game that is about erect is dumed to the point where we've all been there and done it. Big games after WoW that are exactly the same: EverQuest II (They could've done something unique), Star Wars Galaxies (NGE-Revamp - lol), Vanguard: Saga of Heroes (Same crap with more land and less content), Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures (Same crap with better graphics and no less content), Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (WoW 2.0). |

Every MMO since WoW - Been there, done that...

Every MMO since WoW - Been there, done that... I'm a ranger! I can use a bow, track players, and set traps! I'm an armored tank! I can use swords, shields, and taunt enemy players to hold aggro! I'm a healer! I can wield maces and heal players! I'm a mage! I can mez m enemies and nuke them! I'm a pet class! I can use pets and throw dots! Seriously, every game is the fricken same. It's so funny how new entities think that they are coming out with something original when they simply rename WoW's talent tree to "feat", "spec", or "enhancement". It's all the same garbage. Is there any game that will let you mix and match professions? Is there a game that doesn't have the same old "epic", "heritage", or "destiny" storyline? Ugh, it's gotten to the point where everyone is just so sick of it all. When will we get something new? I'm yearning for a new game where the devs just throw you into whatever virtual world and say, "Do whatever you want". There are no quests, there are no set armors (clones), and there are no items that have the exact same attributes (I want a Diablo II style looting system where the stats are totally random). I'll be back once they come out with something new. Until then, they can all just smell my arse, as I'm sick of playing 10 different versions of WoW (Yes, I know WoW wasn't the first, but it has, however, set the first precedent and is dubbed the best). |

KOTOR (MMO): PvP - What style do you want?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 7/19/08 1:40:58 PM
The times have changed mate. All of these new games, the popular ones, are pvp centric. The AoC devs even stated that PvP server populations dominate the PvE ones. Moreover, Warhammer is designed around PvP. Take a look at the WoW crowd; the young dominate the old. PvP is getting bigger and bigger with each MMO, thus, companies would be rather dumb not to include at least 1 server with "real" style PvP. I'm sure they will include the carebear servers (not calling you a carebear).
Bioware wants to compete with large entities such as WoW. If they expect players to front a monthly fee, they cannot release anything that is half-assed. It's going to have to have it all: PvE, PvP, & Economy |
|
|
Bioware wants to create a game that renders some monthly profit. You guys are idiots if you think that they will label their KOTOR Online an "MMO" merely because it has online capabilities. Do you think people are going to pay 15 bucks per month for an online component like Jedi Academy? |

KOTOR (MMO): PvP - What style do you want?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 7/19/08 8:42:37 AM
Personally, I can't play a game that doesn't have PvP. I'm not talking about those terrible battlegrounds or duels, but merely FFA or Factional PvP. I have no idea how SWG's PvP system is now, but it was rather silly when I did play. Imperials and Rebels had to pvp-enable themselves by selecting "overt" If one aligns themself with one of the major factions, he or she should always be open for attack by the opposing faction. I'm hoping Bioware will fire up some type of server that is more pvp oriented. I just have this feeling that the pvp is going to be sassy ;/ |

I was wondering if anyone here got one! |

This is probably the nerdiest game I've ever seen - lol. But hey, 2 million peeps don't think so :) |

Bioware Kotor MMO = WoW with Lightsabres/SciFi Theme

I agree. You don't simply listen to the masses. They don't know what they want, and they will ask for things they THINK they want, but then realize they don't want once you give it to them.
However, you SHOULD listen to yoru beta testers. If they say something isn't working, or something isn't fun, you should pay attention, and see what you can do to fix it.
On the same page as you guys, look at Cliffy B when he made Gears of War, hes been quoted as saying "I didnt make a game for fans, I made a game for me, something I wanted to play." Alot of people gave him shit for that, but that is the same thing I would do.
Gears of War is one of my favorite games, Cliffy B is a gamer, and he knows what gamers want because he knows what he wants.
Bioware thinks the same way.

Lol, you're kidding right? UT2K4 & UT3 are some of the biggest flops. I will not play another Epic game again. |

Here's the thing though: every MMO has the same questing system. We've all done it so many times ;/ Look at AoC! AoC has SUPERB graphics and animations, however, players are just so sick and tired of the same old crap. I think the op is just trying to say - we need something original. |

Well, a successful MMO needs more than just Jedi and Bounty Hunter. Moreover, we need something other than "set-in-stone" classes that have a level 70-80 cap. We need superb crafting, land housing, and ability to mix and match professions to be successful. I'm hoping they don't go with the typical questing approach like every single WoW competitor has done. It's not going to work.
I'm just hoping that they know what a sandbox game is. They make some truly great console games, however, those have no place at all in the MMO realm. |

I cannot play an MMORPG without full PvP. I'm not talking about overt/covert dual garbage ;/ Iif you're either IMP and REB, you should ALWAYS be flagged for PvP. |

What you fail to realize about the KOTOR MMO is...
General Discussion « Star Wars Galaxies 7/18/08 9:40:57 AM
It's not going to be a pre-cu. It's going be a new and fresh game. I doubt it will be as deep as old SWG, however, it will still be fun I'm sure. At this point, I just want something new... |
|
|
Regardless, I just hope the MMO isn't ALL Jedi & Bounty Hunter. |
