This is pathetic.  A month prior to "release" and nothing...

Aventurine's either on vacation, stupid, or both.  There really should be a shitload of information for me, each time I log on weekly.  I'm honestly glad I stopped frequenting these forums, it's all so depressing.

Think about it people...The most information we have gotten about this game in the last four months, is a 10-minute gameplay video that showcases no more than goblins.  Something's hidden.  That, or their PR is the absolute worst I've ever seen, which I doubt.

Any company making something that they are hoping to cash in on, "will" publicize it feverently.  The fact that Aventurine's not, means Darkfall is likely in shitty shape.  But, I could be wrong and in a month's time Europe will have one of the greatest games in history... ~laugh~

Tasos, one of the developers, already stated in an interview ON THIS WEBSITE that the game is ready to be released, but that they wanted to knock out all the kinks and bugs before release.

That does not mean anything. We want to hear from 3rd Partys that havve no affiliation with Darkfall. Why has none of the staff from MMORPG played or seen the game and wrote an article about it. This is an article from the MMORPG.com Community Manager made talking about  his time playing AION months before the game was released. This is what we want to see .

www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/253/feature/2212

MMORPG Italia has and they have no affiliation with DarkFall.

If you seem to think they do then by all means post the information you found that led you to believe this so that we can all take it into consideration.

Yeah, third party source, they are...

Encouraging information shown...Not so much.  But, this is very old news.  I've been gone for about a week, (mostly playing on Xbox Live :P) and there's not a single shred of new information.

Really, it's all ridiculous, a single month from release and all we have is a preview from The Noob, and a small, crappy review (?) from MMORPG Italia.  I just am not seeing justification for this game being finished, Aventurine should be boasting, not holding back if so.

Whatever though, like I've always said, it's their game they can do what they want.  Sad that what they want includes keeping their customers in the dark.

To me, these previews are bittersweet.

It's not so much that I don't like them, or what she's saying.  It's that when I look at the game, and what is being mentioned, it really doesn't seem polished at all.  I could be entirely wrong here, in that a game of this genre doesn't need to look or feel great, it just needs players.  But yeah, some of the images and Gianna's mentionings of the lack of players...I don't know

...I just don't see a January of '09 release date.  But I do see a game, so that's a positive

IF it gets released in 2009, then 2001-2009 is NOT 5 years.  i also do not believe vaporware means what you think it means.  even if the game would be released in 2009, it would still, by definition, BE vaporware.  ignorance of a term does not change the definition of said term.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

aside from what the devs did/did not do; the fanboys have had a hand in turning people against the thought of darkfall.  especially with the rampant spamming of DF silliness across many forums at many sites.

if the game ever does get released, and perhaps an updated listing of features be put on the official website, so that everyone know what TO expect... well, i guess we'll see at that point.  a game that's a first for a crew that's never made any games prior... combined with virtually non-existant testing OR information about the game... yeah, it doesn't sound good from the point of view of someone that's watched many games come and go (gods-n-heroes anyone?)

Gotta love when people use a reference for the word "vaporware"...Yet fail to realize just how stupid the word is.

Can we all just stop using the term, and refer to this game as "Incomplete"?  It really doesn't sound quite as moronic.

Damn Stradden, I didn't think you could do it.

Right when I got to the part where you asked him how many players were in the beta, I was fully expecting another side-step tactic.  He started one, then actually gave some numbers...I'm stunned that he shot himself in the knee-cap with honesty.  Really, well done.

I'm actually feeling better after reading this article.  Yes, Taso sounded like an ass, but whatever.  Once again its their game, their PR specialist.  As long as beta's going to start soon, and launch is when it's "ready", I'll happy.

Thank you for getting him to open his mouth...Never thought I'd say that, but I did.

I voted based on my hopes...Not on what I think will happen, which is that another announcement, meant to drag our attention away from the issue, will be given.

2004 was right for the first...I'll go with 2006 on this one.

Can I please...please...please pop this thread's cherry?

I know the answer too, I just don't want to say it :(

God, what an ironic and scary...yet funny, idea.  Random, you pulled yourself out of any doubt in my mind.  This topic's a winner.

JFYI, I went with 2004, but have a feeling it was 2007

How are some people this ignorant of situations...Really?

I can honestly understand someone with an optimistic outlook, but ZtyX takes that to a whole other level of crazy.

I don't understand humans...Never will.

EDIT* About the actual topic...

I don't know I would have liked any action taken from this site towards Aventurine.  A Q&A session is better than nothing, but would likely still produce the same contorted answers.

Meh...Around the 10th I will really start to wonder what exactly Aventurine was thinking, if all we have by then is the 8th issue of "TheNoob in Darkfall".  Whatever, they can do as they wish; I just won't buy their potential-lost game.

Understood Rhinok, but my concerns about Darkfall are even greater seeing that Darkfall is trying to pull off even more now. To be a first person style of game, then the game engine needs to run VERY fast and smooth to provide for good game play, as in a first person shooter FPS. Could you imagine playing Halo 3 with slow character movement or extreme lag?

Okay, so they are trying to pull off a first person viewpoint where your move your mouse in the direction you are looking. I got that now. I never really studied all the promised features of Darkfall and how they plan to implement everything, but now I wonder about a million more little details, which is probably not answered yet.

See, this game certainly seems like it is trying to pull off way more then it can handle. It's trying to be a fast moving, skill based FPS style game that is also an mmo on a single server with 200 vs 200 player warefare as I've seen talked about several times on these forums already. It's trying to promise a million things and everyones favorite parts of a hundred thousand game style elements and put them all into this "sounds too good to be true" type of game.

But we can talk forever about what they are promising to be implemented in the game. What is actually going to happen when I install and play this game on my computer is where my real concerns are. My doctor can tell me that a pill I'm supposed to take tastes like moist, tender Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and warm apple pie all in the same little pill. And his nurses that work with him, for him in his offices can tell me the same thing. But that don't mean I'm not gonna taste a chalky piece of crap pill when I put it in my mouth. (The nurses in his office being all the friends and people who put up reviews of this game from the offices or control of Aventurine)

Honestly, sit back and try to enjoy the ride.  If the something big is going to happen, it'll happen this month.  There's no reason to get worked up about the "flaws" of a game you've not yet played, so just hold off until the beta.  Go play some 360...Or something.

Call me as you wish. But just stop and think for a minute here. A "fixed" camera that cannot be adjusted. How fantastic will this work? First we have to assume that we actually ever play this game. So here we are with the camera fixed in a position that shows us an angle that works fine and shows what we want to see right in front of us. Cool.

Then we start to move and move up or down a slope. Now imagine this un-adjustable camera in its fixed position either showing us the sky or the ground and we cannot adjust it to see anything. Not anything behind us, nor anything in front of us. Truly advanced alright. Sounds like great fun, I can hardly wait to play now!

I'm really not seeing much of a problem with a fixed camera.  How I believe it'll work is it'll tilt with your character's head movement...I could be wrong and it's stuck in the air...But whatever, I'll leave my judgment until I try the beta...

And of course, your well thought out reply will include something like, "given a beta ever does happen"  Well, no shit.  But it's always good to keep a level head, and a slightly optimistic outlook.  Otherwise people tend to post pessimistic, close-minded viewpoints on forums where no one really cares.

....And no one wants that.

Where've you been egg?  It has been a few days since I've seen a post of yours...Kinda missed you.

Did I mention that I bought you a present?

...It's a squirrel head...Do you like it?

lol...Welcome back though

When will the laughs stop?

December 31, 2008.

No, by then I believe they will increase.  Either side of this argument's funny.  If the game's a success, I'll still laugh at the ignorant naysayers; otherwise, I'll continue laughing at the adamant supporters.  I win!

Well OP I would BAN you too. And I can see all other MMO's doing the same.  Though I dont see Darkfall EVER being a hit but so far the only joke I see and read is just you.. sorry

I don't particularly see where you're coming from with this one, Zeblade.  The OP is concerned that Darkfall will turn out poorly, and that Aventurine's forums are being cleansed of naysayers...

It's another eye-opener.  Perhaps he was "too" vocal, like myself... Or perhaps he was doing just as he said, and they're getting uptight because someone upstairs doesn't want the public to know just how badly fans of the game are being treated.  We don't know.

What's really ironic though, is that you agree with the OP in that Darkfall will be a disapointment, yet then you critisize him, later in the same sentence.  Honestly Zeblade, you're the pathetic one.

Same, where can I sign up?

Yeah, SOE's tact in that instance was on par with the DnL scam I've read so much about.

Get over yourself.  Nobody cares.  This politically-correct culture where every crybaby needs to be catered to is ridiculous.  Don't like it?  Don't read it.  The world will go on without your approval.

As an agnostic, I'm not one to believe in a God.  But someone posting their religious opinion in their signature is their right.  I personally don't agree with his "opinion" but he is sure able to hold it...And I'd love to debate him on the subject

EDIT* (attempting to rein in the topic-horse)

After much decision, I've decided that SOE is the biggest joke in the industry.  They, unlike Aventurine sported a "huge" amount of knowledge of the inner-workings of MMOs and their playerbase, prior to SWG.  Seeing as how far SWG has fallen because of their ignorant, greed-filled actions; I've no other choice but to label them the utter disgrace of the industry.

We've yet to see how far Aventurine has fallen, perhaps they aren't lying, but if they are, this race will be a close one.

This is a simple Best Case/Worst Case scenario, based on what we DO know.

Adventurine is a small developer. They have gone with a first time publisher for games. They have a very limited exposure, but a dedicated fan base.

1. If the game were to have a terrible launch, it would most likely last 3 months (one quarter) before the developer and publisher had a 'settling' and the game became financially problematic. It would take at least another quarter of foot dragging before it were killed.

2. If the game were to have a great launch, it would most likely take a month or two (Jan/Feb) before it started drawing players from other games. It would not be a 'major' game until next summer, when its base was built from its good reputation.

So, good or bad, it will take about 3 months to find out where its destiny lies, and about another three to start materializing it.

Yeah, those 3 months will be a blast.  Afterwards it will be a massacre......for the newbies...
