I was never actually able to log into this game...It seemed to have alot of issues, at least it gave that appearance...If it's FFA PVP then I wouldnt have had any interest anyway......Same goes for Salem...It sounds great on paper, but not interested in being killed and having to start all over again...There are just too many idiots that thrive on ruining other players game experience for this to be a good environment.

I would have liked to have tried Tabula Rasa...From what I heard it was a pretty fun game to play......Played Chronicles of SPellborn and was not impressed.....The combat and tutorial were both gamebreaking for me.

I actually like it better when players give a score....I dont listen to the "this game sucks" or "this game is awesome" crowd because they rarely ever give a reason why it sucks or is awesome.......It would be nice if there was a system here where we could rate games based on 10 factors or so...That way there would be a score associated with what is said.....ALso what is gamebreaking in one game for me might not bother someone else, and vice versa.

The more that MMOs head toward console type of gaming the worse......

Ive only played a couple of levels but its nothing like Atlantica...You have 10 seconds to pick your defense (melee, ranged, magic) and your attack (same as defenses).....Its kinda fun but nowhere near as good as Atlantica.....Like others here, Im undecided as to how long I'll play it.

In EQ's early years you weren't "forced" to group, but it was alot more convenient if you did.....THey had classes that could solo, but it took longer to do anything and your content was limited.....Also if you're going to make a forced grouping game, then everyone needs to have a distinct and valuable role in the group......I haven't seen a game be able to do that since EQ and DAoC.

Because you would soon have advancement by looking it up on the Internet, the advantage of time served is that it cannot be skipped (unless your game offers a Cash shop but that is a different debate), you would need to have non repeating puzzles to make it work.

I have heard a couple of different devs say that they don't put in challenging puzzles because it is basically a waste of their time......In the gaming days before google and other search engines it was definitely easier to do.

Well we have no idea what you like, but if you're a Diablo 2 fan I'd go with the Path of Exile beta.....It looks to me to be the successor and its free.

I jsut don't see how anyone can love or hate a game at this stage of its development....We know very little about it and 8 million things can change between now and the launch of the game (if that even happens)....Theres no sense getting worked up one way or another about something that was just announced a couple of days ago.

Anarchy Online is pretty fun but it is definitely old school and has a learning curve.

I dont P&P but I play a browser based game that is identical and we dont have to track the stats......The game is called World of Dungeons and is based on the D&D pen and paper dungeon crawlers......It has about 14 classes (3 are free) and uses the die system like D&D did....If you're looking for a fun online P&P type of game I'd recommend this one.

It isn't that alot of us hate themepark games, its that they have all been very similar the last few years.....Extremely quest heavy, little or no exploration, instanced, and made so that you could train your 4 year old brother to beat them......I just think alot of us are getting tired of the same thing over and over and are looking for something a little more fresh and exciting.

The Xfire numbers are interesting but it is too small of a sampling base to draw much of a conclusion from....... We've done a few polls here to see how many gamers actually use Xfire and its been 30% or less the last couple of times..... Also I'd guess that it appeals mainly to a certain age range and a certain type of gamer...I have never had Xfire come with any game myself nor do I play any games that suggest using it.

My background is similar to the OPs except I played EQ for 5 years and WoW for one.....I played Rift in beta and wasn't impressed at all....It felt like a cut and paste MMO where I ahd seen everything it had to offer in other MMOs already.... It seems like the players who didnt have alot of MMO experience really liked it, while those of us that had played quite a few MMOs weren't impressed.....DIdnt get into Tera beta as I had a heck of a time with the download and just never got it done so cant help you there.......Ryzom seems to be a nice fit for EQ vets as it is now f2p and has a great crafting and digging system....Also tons to explore and players group there quite a bit.....Also keep your eye on the secret world though it is a little early to make a judgment call on it yet.
Yeah I dont see how minecraft is a sandbox either...I dont really even consider it a game.....Just like your lego blocks weren't a game either.
Also the fast paced leveling games tend not to keep people interested long term....Most of them are not very challenging.
I lost interest in WoW just before the Lich King came out....IT sounds like that was about the peak of the game and it has gone downhill ever since...To be honest I dont miss the game one iota

beta test access for free to play games...

whoop-e-dooo....

Can't believe they are using that as a sales incentive for TL2 :P

Its been a sales incintive for alot of games for quite awhile now......Once these companies learned that they could make money off of betas, it is slowly becoming the norm.....

In this week's Star Wars: The Old Republic column we discuss whether or not SWTOR should make the switch to the free-to-play business model.

I’ve been knee-deep in the MMORPG.com community since I came on in June of 2009, but it feels like only yesterday when our community was up in arms over the notion of some Western game going free-to-play. While some of this sentiment still remains, it doesn’t take more than a cursory glance to notice that there’s been an overall attitude shift here, and this is likely due in part to the gradual trend towards free-to-play that has been going on since DDO made the extremely successful switch back in September of ’09. This apparent shift, at least to me, speaks volumes to where things are headed and it’s got me asking myself one question in particular as of late:

Should Star Wars: The Old Republic go Free-to-Play?

Read more of Michael Bitton's Star Wars: The Old Republic: Should SWTOR Go Free-to-Play?

As if there weren't enough threads for whiners and trolls we have community managers creating them now?  NICE!

Tera is gonna have people bitching in a month.

GW2 wil have people bitching a month after release.

TSW will have people bitching after release...

You see the trend?  It's all happened before... see the last 10 years on this forum...

THis is why I dont think f2p is a bad thing....The trend is that people bitch after they pay money for these games....If you're playing for free and don't like the game, you just leave and move on to the next game......If you pay 60 bukcs for the box, then another 15 a month for a few months, then you feel cheated.....Also if gamers weren't so dumb they would simply wait a few months and play these games for a fraction of hte price that they do on launch day.....At some point SWTOR will most likely be f2p, and at that point  Iwill check it out.

Anarchy Online, probably.  I've never thought of it as themepark.

The only knock on it is that it does have classes (professions), but you can spend the points in any way you want.
