im so bummed out about G&H being cancelled and what happend to perpetual. i know this is old news but how many of you were finally getting that MMO you wanted... you know the ancient rome inspired MMO. i was disappointed in the show ROME being cancelled on HBO and now the game.
the closest thing i have to a "roman" feeling is conan only because it feels like the three major nationalities in it are based on areas of and around rome... Aquilonia= Rome Stygia= Egypt Cimerrians= Gaul or norse... anyways, somewhere deep in my delusional heart i hold hope that since SOE is the mother of all stray MMOs that maybe they will just attach a live team to it and release it as a pay per month no box etc... i mean pirates of the burning sea exists...??? its a decent game and from what i understand its been buffed since last i played, but couldnt we also have gods and heroes??? lol so fellow romans, here we shall pray to Juno for gods and heroes and damn Dis for his meddling in developer affairs... |

so, today i made a post, it was a question about a game i dont even play anymore. i DID NOT realize it was against board regs to talk/ask about this said topic and i, in fact, had no clue what i was asking about, thats why it was a question. i now believe that it was viewed as a solicitation but it WAS NOT my intention. i had searched all over the net and found no answers and the reason why i didnt know said topic was taboo was the exact reason that no one is allowed to talk about it. that seems very counter educational. so i just wanted to post my clarification. i am in no way tied to soliciting any outside products, illegal or otherwise and have respect for ALL developers and their respected intellectual properties. i ABHOR gold spam/selling or any other function that sees any said IP compromised. i could not respond to community manager nor was i able to click a link to reply to whoever had to deal with my ignorance or i would have dealt with it that way. so, im sorry to bring light to anything that should be left in the dark. cheers. |

it seems that if you dont love an MMO you have to hate it. and everyone who loves the one they buy, usually ONLY loves that one and roots against all others like they were the enemy. where else does this dynamic exist????
yup/ sports. "my favorite 'team' is blizzard, it totally crushes turbine." "oh yeah, well blizzard is the mcdonalds of MMO developers, EQ is way cooler cause its for hardcore people" on and on... etc, etc... it seems that we cant JUST like an MMO, it must be either loved or hated. and it seems people LOVE to hate AoC. i think the MMO space is a much healthier space due to conan's launch. and i really enjoy conan. in fact, i usually am subbed to 2 MMOs at a time and in between many others because its up there as one of my favorite genres. im playing, actively- LotRO / AoC / WAR and, on and off- EQ2, tabula rasa, SWG, PotBS... conan also serves a demographic that no other MMO up to this point has served yet, and therefore it is a necessary piece of software as one of the colors of the MMO rainbow. and in this case, the color is RED... conan is the higher paced, mature MMO with a rich mythology and lore based on the robert e. howard books. it has a visual art style like no other and of course, its a fact that it IS the best MMO graphically. it may not be your vial of blood, stylistically, but its a fact, the GFX are phenominal.

i know this topic isnt as exciting as knowing hwen we can play CE head start and SE headt start. BUT none the less im curious. it seems that how AoC was handled with the beta/headstart might be the same way its done with WAR. for MMOs a street date doesnt really matter anymore. the "ship" date on all sites says the 16th so does that mean they will already have them in stores by then? or on the 17th because it really isnt shipping until the 16th? or, is it ALREADY in store and they will let us pick up even earlier than the 16th like they did with conan? i grabbed my copy of conan the day BEFORE the ship/street date. anyone working at a gamestop/bestbuy that can confrim or deny? now i know how things work at stores like best buy, circuit city and gamestop, ive worked at 2 of those stores. and as of late with best buy they have the date on their website that the game WILL be in store for pickup. and gamestops site has the date it is "shipping" which is also the street date. its actually wierd how non-uniformed video game releases are and theres much more money in them than CDs/movies...lol so ANY speculation is welcome. i wont be playing my head start till tuesday and would love nothing more than to BS about WAR till then... i do have spore and although its a swell game it just cant patch the hole in my heart that is a gaping wound for WAR to fill... oops, that was... um... yeah...

funny that you should bring up guild wars cause i worry more and more that this game feels WAY too much like GW and im NOT a GW fan... i havent seen much gear at all. ive seen just a few pieces of armor, granted im only lv 7 but all my weapons looked the same till i just got a new sword towards the end of chapter 2. the game even controls and feel-wise, feel like GW... and yeah the dye system helps a bit. i like it and its affordable early on for your whole suit. i havent been in an "instance" yet but i was in a literal dungeon and it was decent. i mean i think age of conan has THEE BEST game/dungeon/geography layout of any MMO so it kinda spoiled me there. but so far the areas layouts arent too bad, in fact they feel interesting and you never get lost because everything looks the same. if you are lost its just because your somewhere new. |

im curious if the retail box launch will be like AoC was it was available on the ship date (16th) so even though the game isnt "officially" launched till the 18th we can install the game from the disks ahead of time. anyone hear anything about that? |

heres what i cant stand GFX wise in any game, mostly with MMOs though... seeing a few feet ahead of your character and noticing a line and just beyond that line is messy, low res, gross textures. dude, even phantasy star universe has ani=sotropic filtering and thats one of the worst MMO GFX optioned games out to date. now i forced AA through my vid card and it helped the character models imensly, otherwise they were gross. and i even tried to force AS, but it would not work. i hate standing only 10' away from a tree, building, statue and it not showing its regular texture, only a "filler" 2D like mesh as a place holder...??? this has been my experience in WAR so far and im very dissapointed. i cant believe the lack of GFX here. i understand they want to "simplify" for massive RvR but damn, even WoW looks better than this game does without forcing GFX tweaks you come to expect in any modern PC game... |

thats really wierd i would have assumed that how the game looks now that we would AT LEAST get higher res textures and at least ani-sotropic if not AA as well... now im actually worried... if this is the GFX options we get at launch im SUPER UNDERWHELMED!!! wow... lame... |

i think a lot of this thread is not understanding the question as i think i do. because ive had the same question. with the size of games and high res textures these days most MMO beta probably scale back lots of high res stuff to cut down on the DL size. LotRO did this and so did WoW back in the day. my question would be what exactly has been cut out that we will see installed from the retail box that we dont have now. i am assuming and hoping at the very least ani-sotropic filtering because watching lines about 3' in front of your character and beyond the line it looks like low textures. sometimes lately games dont officially support AA in favor of certain lighting technologies but like i said as long as we get Ani-Sotropic i will be happy, but its not a far stretch to hope for AA as well. im also guessing that we'll see high res textures added to the environment as well as other places too. believe me, for the people that dont have muscle PCs the game looks very decent and playable as of right now which is good for people that arent lucky enough to have anything higher than a 7600. and also, i know for those of us that like to tweak the game will look twice as good when we get our DVD installed from the retail boxes... |

i just cant believe all the negative hype and the game hasent even launched yet. side note real quick, as you said about peopel being turned off by RvR. im just going on what ive heard (possibly naively) that the devs were quoted as saying you can pick whatever aspect of the game you like and follow it to lv 40. PvE, PvP, RvR etc... if thats not so, i would definitely be disappointed. because im into PvE and thats about it. with some fun grouping co-op sprinkled in. so that may turn me off. but i'll just have to wait and see. and im listening to the WAAAGH!!! podcast right now about the guys blogpost talking about an old comment someone said (forget his name sorry, who was a huge part of mudds etc) but he said something like "yeah i played WAR before it was called WoW"... thats so funny, because WAR has been around since the early 80s, and when was the first warcraft RTS? late 80s? so that means art style and fantasy style, warhammer IS its own. as for combat, looting and all the other features that makes MMOs MMOs, name 1 MMO that is so different from all the rest and tell me #1 that it STILL could be considered an MMO and #2 what is it doing that no one else is doing??? so many people seem to think they have the formula to create the perfect MMO to revolutionize the MMO movement and genre!?!?!? if it was so easy dont you think someone would have already revotionized it already? its a new art. like TV in the early 1900s. were only about 18 years in if you want to count MUDDs and on, and only about 10 years in with a healthy understanding of utilizing 3D textures. i mean whos to say that some day games might not even be 3d anymore. whos to say the isometric isnt the best path or a 2d/3d hybrid? i mean things are still really young, not to mention developers probably spend more time trying to get these massive games to work on a large cross section of PC rigs than crafting and developing the best world and rules system that would blow everyone away. theres just so many thing to look at. and i feel like, in our era of gaming, that blogging and internet information breeds people with a new self taught sense of righteous opinionated verbage to damn a game if they feel its getting to much hype or attention. how could anyone form any solid opinion of WAR and the game has not even launched yet? its crazy!!! i remember lotro in beta, and i didnt think i would still play it. ive come to love it more and more as time went on. good MMOs are an accuired taste and a work in progress, thats important to remember... |

i have noticed lots of people hating map tracked quests. i personally love it, let me explain. when i play LotRO, i spend SO MUCH time trying to find where im supposed to go, or what area i want to go to to do quests in that it kind of detracts from the game for me. when i play AoC i open my map and click on the nearest gray "X". i love that. it totally fixes twiddling through my quest book trying to find areas/qeusts that sync up for me to align for efficiancy. i think all games should have it and if you dont like it and option to turn it off. |
