After 3 months of sitting on my purchase.
General Discussion « Mortal Online 11/10/09 6:17:58 PM
I actually like MO better then DF. Darkfall and Mortal Online are completely dif. games. I'd like to point out. Stop worrying. It's like trying to compare Shadowbane to UO.

Then they listed, How can you have lots of content as a pro, but having to learn as a con. If having to learn about the content, and quests aren't the only form of content, is a con then lots of content is a con. You can't praise a game for having lots to it, but give it bad marks for having to learn what that content is or how to play it. Horrible, horrible article guys. |

I think this is the first article I completely disagree with. I played on Nagafen, I'm assuming that's the server the author also played on. If WoW is the definition of a casual friendly game, then EQ2 practically plays itself. Solo quests galour. The map shows you who has quests to give, and who you have to turn a quest into. The tutorial zone has a tutorial part that explains how to improve your skills. I can only assume that the author missed this part in the tutorial zone. Looking through the broker will also show you that you can purchase skills, looking into crafting will also show you that you can craft skills. Travelling is cake. You simply use the docks. The bells will take you pretty much every place you need to go, but doesn't remove the need to actually explore. You have an ability to recall back to your home town, just like hearthing in WoW. The capital cities are big enough that you can spend an unbelievable amount of time just playing in them. Not just running around, but actually doing quests. There's an insane amount of quests that can be done just in the cities. At the lower levels you can litterally level multiple times just running around your capital city and visiting all the dif. places. EQ2 is no harder then WoW, and on many levels is considerably easier. If EQ2 isn't casual friendly, then WoW is casual impossible. Edit: I forgot. Second edit: I'm just blown away. Being a causual friendly game doesn't mean that everyone should know everything about the game in the first week or two of playing, that's called a shallow game. Casual friendly just means that you can advance at a rate that doesn't require you to spend every waking minute playing, in otherwords, you can advance with just a few hours here and there. I had to turn combat XP off cause the leveling was to fast!!!!! |

I wonder how many of the people that want a remade UO have taken a serious look at Mortal Online? FPV and FPS aside. Good article. |

Heh, even the community is a clone of Darkfall. Full of people who flame "go back to WoW" whenever someone suggests any content other than FFA PvP. The community alone is enough reason to stay away from this game.
This guy has absolutely no idea what he's talking about.

I'll be buying a PS3 when this game releases. That and my girlfriends kid has pretty much confiscated my 360. |

Just because you allow everyone to have every ability in game doesn't make it a sandbox. DF doesn't use a skill system, it uses an ability system. You level one ability in order to get a new ability. It has one class. The warrriorarchermage. Everyone starts in exactly the same way. With a leafblade. That's linear. You are restricted to were you have a house. You can't build a house, and not everyone can have a house. City building is restricted. Were you can place assets is predetermined. That's linear. The only thing sandboxy about the game is that you can learn every ability. |

Were lucky when we get tooltips that are correct in released games, and your worried about a tooltip in a beta? A part of the skill system enebles your character to understand dif. things. When you start you'll have very limitted infromation through tooltips; as you get better with your skills more and more information is revealed. For someone that's been pretty high and mighty on the official forums and swearing up and down you don't troll and aren't a fanboy of Darkfall, you've been doing an awful good job of trolling the game. |

Exactly, put it into perspective...all of those were totally predictable based on the history of the hype, BS, drama and near-vaporware nature of DFs development for years...so why was any of it "interesting"? It's like saying someone crying on Oprah was "surprising"...no it was expected. This article brings up an issue: the low quality of mmos released so far this year and still to be released. That - right there. Hard to have any "interest" when all we are seeing is garbage.
Wow. It's interesting because of all the controversy that surrounded it. |

Don't misunderstand, Im not like these people who feel forced to play an MMO, I havent been subscribed to anything since AoC's patch 1.05 (and that was only for a single month).
Im looking for something pvp oriented without the "Hay, grind for 30 hours and we'll let you play the REAL game..."
It's a sandbox in the sense that you aren't given direction, and there are no classes. It stops there. Darkfall is all about PvP. It's very much like a persistant world Team Fortress type of a game. I can't attest to how the grind is today. I don't reccomend the game. PS: It's also very much group dependant. That's not to say impossible to play solo, just that it very much a group dependant game. If you're looking for one on one type fights then you'll be wandering around for quite some time. If you're in a guild and are grouping, it should be easier for you to find pvp. |

General: The List: 5 Interesting Launches of 2009
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/09/09 6:42:22 PM
I liked the article. I agree that Darkfall was the most interesting launch of '09; just wish I hadn't been a part of it. To the people blowing up over Darkfall being number one on his list, Jon wasn't making a point of Darkfall being a good game, any more then he was making a point that it was a bad game. He was just pointing out that with everything that went on during it's launch that it was the most interesting of the mmo's to release this year. Think of it this way. Now point out another game that had all of those things happen when it released. It's the controversy, and the events surrounding Darkfalls launch that earned it the number one spot on Jon's list; not the quality of the game. Now sit back. Some of you got way to hyper over nothing. |
