fanboyism is actually making me dislike the game
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 4/08/12 1:35:09 AM
In my F2P experience in lotro, it became "P2W" when the discrepency between game-time and money-time become amazing scewed. It would sometimes take 6+ hours of game time to get something that cost 3 bucks. Honestly, I was obliged to buy because I make more than .50 cents an hour at my job. They made it, perhaps purposely, an amazing waste of time to actually get something in-game (sometimes requiring groups, adding more time to it).
If Guild Wars offers PvP altering buffs that are signficantly harder to get in-game than they are compared to money/time ratios, they will already be heading down the wrong path at launch. |

Why such strong feelings about SWTOR?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 4/08/12 1:27:03 AM
Unreasonable expectations. I was a long time LOTRO player, at beta etc. If TOR had been what LOTRO was at launch, people would've shat more bricks then are currently being shat. It works, full voice acting, instances pvp, OPVP (Albiet horrendous OPVP), raids, operations. LOTRO launched with 4 (Or was it like, 6? 7? ..GB/GA/Fornost/CD/URU/BG)instances across all levels and 1 raid (helegrod)
In conclusion, people thought TOR would be the second coming. As a fan of this era in the Star Wars lore, I enjoy it. Anyone who says it isnt star wars was just execpting harrison ford and darth vader. It is profoundly star wars, and I think people's illness with prototypical MMO gaming made them hate everything more than it really should be hated.
That said, I look forward to Gw2 launching and seeing if it really does change anything, or, like RIFT, if it just makes everything look slightly different so trollers think it actually is different.

fanboyism is actually making me dislike the game
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 4/08/12 1:20:33 AM
My own opinion hasn't been changed, its just made me amazingly more skeptical of this game. Whenever a game sets out to destroy some old facet of MMO gaming they usually fail miserably, and just recreate said facet but in a more pretty way (hence not getting rid of it at all). Pre-MMO launches is like psychological warfare. I've made a conscious effort not to be excited about Guild Wars in an effort to be "suprised" if it really says what its going to do, yet I don't really feel I've achieved this, lol.
In any case, all the fanboyism has made me cynical. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Marauder Player Guide
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/11/12 11:40:38 AM
Ive been playing a Marauder since my first beta, and I definetly liked the guide. Marauder is most assuredly a user-heavy kind of class. My entire keyboard is filled with hotkeys. That said, I hate talking about crap like "skill" because there are too many variables. What I would say is that to get the most out of a marauder you have to put in effort to figure it out. Although I am borderline outraged that a Juggernaught can do even an approachable amount of damage compared to me. Marauder = DPS only. Jugg = Tank/DPS/Never die. I dont know why TOR has the holy trinity if any class can do any role except the melee DPS classes. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Bonus Series? Or Troll Series? You Decide!
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/04/12 12:16:25 PM
The one on balmorra is a bad example, it was one of the longest bonus series involving the most travel. Most of them are quick and easy XP, with great rewards.
Cant complain. Plus, they extend the story a bit. |

Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures: The Quiz: King Conan Edition
News Discussion « General Discussion 3/02/11 8:16:32 PM
This is the first Quiz I've ever gotten all the questions right. Love this game, I just hope they will continue to develop it and attempt to get new players on the servers. |

If someone offered you 50 million dollars to create a MMORPG, what would you make?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/14/10 4:26:42 PM
Excellent idea. Plenty of warfare during that period to allow for PvP and PvE. That would be epic...implement long boats like other games have implemented naval features (vanguard etc) |

Probably some kind of historical MMO. Perhaps Classic Greece/Rome...or The 100 Year War between england and france. Medieval Period always gives one good armor options for design. |

An interesting question. But I feel like a similar game would have taken its place. In my mind the thing that differentiates WoW from others is the ease of becoming acclimated to the game and its wide appeal. I would guess such a game would have been made whether WoW was first or not. The move to user friendly, theme park games was going to happen one way or another IMO. In that way, WoW was not revolutionary but more symptomatic of the changing times away from the early MMOs. |

I'm not sure if its been said before but simply not enough people play MMOs for it to be an Opium of the masses as said by Karl Marx when referring to religion. |

Welcome to the game! I hope you find the community as great as I have found it. |

Just depends on what you like. If you like distanced DPS then go for hunter, if you like being in the thick of things, go for the champion. One thing that can be said with definity is that Hunters are better in PvMP, because you can kill things from a distance instead of having to go run after them. I played a hunter up to level 46 or so...its pretty fun overall, easy to level. My main is a champ, also pretty easy to solo with. |

I've played a lot of MMOs and none of them compare to LOTRO for me. The community is great, the graphics are outstanding and its just plain fun! LOTRO will also always be my #1 mmo. |

Well im glad some people are enjoying the game, because I know I am. If your not, why do you even care enough to stop by these forums? |
|
|
I gave it a 10, I'm having a lot of fun with AoC after playing LotRO and WAR. |
|

Like people have said above me, its really up to you. Ive played AoC and WAR and i prefer WAR because of the few little unique things that I like. But its really up to you. |
