With the Darkfall scam, SWG NGE, the Vanguard failure and the AoC fiasco currently going on it seems that MMO games are on the decline. Seriously it seems that there have been more failures in this industry since EQ1 than successes. When will it get to the point that developers give up on the MMO framework and stop making the games entirely. EQ2, WoW and LotRO seem to be the only successful games and only WoW can compete with other genres of games.   The MMORPG genre needs another success soon or I think it might be in trouble.

You're not mentioning tons of other smaller MMORPG's that are a complete success for their makers. A game doesn't have to be making 10 million dollars per month to be a success.

Don't give me the old line "lack of graphics"

How about really using your imagination instead of having graphics spoon-feed you?

some people don't have imaginations

I completely believe that back in 2000 before razorwax got involved with Tasos or Aventurine that they were and wanted to build a game...

If you look back at how they acted back than it's completely diffierent to how they act now.

2. If Darkfall is a "scam" why has this "scam" continued for almost a decade. What can the motivation behind such a thing be?

It could be an investment "scam" for example. Developers just sit around "developing" forever while getting money from this place or that place for their "developments" but never really producing anything much.

What has DF produced since 2002? A few Alpha videos?

Who knows. But the fact that Razorwax was involved in some shady stuff like illegal loans to shareholders on two seperate occasions before they went bankrupt in 2006 doesn't really make it out to look like DF is much of anything credible...

If you haven't played EQ1 and Asheron's Call than you are a MMO noob.

Aventurine, as far as we know, advised war game simulaltion projects for the greek military "through other companies in their group", whatever that means.

What would you like to see in an MMO?

Well basically I am making this thread to find out what the community of gamers, both hardcore and not, would like to see included in an MMO in the future. This could be totally new ideas, or just changing concepts from what is implemented in MMO's already released.

Some topics of discussion could include:
  • Crafting/Professions
  • Classes/Class Progression/Multiple Classes(primary and secondary)/ Pros vs Cons
  • Raids/Boss Encounters/Difficulty/Size/Getting Attuned(for lack of a better word) - Yes, No?
  • PvP/Siege Warfare
  • Guilds/Player Built Cities
  • Itemization/Armor Sets/PvE Gear vs PvP Gear
  • Mounted Combat/Pros vs Cons/Balance against non-mounted opponents
  • Alternate AH concepts/Market Place/Bazaar
  • Starting Zones/Having Multiple/Class Specific/Player Chosen

Obviously there are probably many more which I did not mention. So toss your ideas out there, who knows, maybe they will find there way into an upcoming game?!?!

P.S.

PLEASE no flaming someone for posting their ideas that might not be feasible.

If mentioning other titles, post what if implemented, and the changes you would like to see made - please don't just tear them apart.

I'd like to see a new MMO with complete freedom.. rather then like the premade classes and hidden land borders and walls and stuff

But yet they're still building a "revolutionary technology platform for online games"

http://razorwax.com/

did you know Razorwax filed for Bankruptcy in 2006? lol

Ok maybe you're not an angry fanboy. I apologize

Can anyone else feel Darkfall slowly twirling down the toilet?

so wait a second , Tasos's real name is Anastasias "Tasos" Flampouras ??

not Tasos flambouras?

Polar can you link to where the auditor notes "illegal loans to shareholder, the general manager" twice

They never “found” a Greek Company to “publish” Darkfall and continue its development like they announced.

They created Aventurine and then moved to Greece ostensibly to continue development of Darkfall,

So you're saying that years back when they announced that they had a publisher and were moving to Greece to be with that new publisher ---  they actually intentionally told a lie to possibly make themselves look better?     :::::Gasp:::::

Why didn't they just say ---  Razorwax is picking up shop and moving to Greece and opening a new company there because the labor is so much cheaper.

I sense an angry fanboy.

Your anger is misguided. It needs to be directed at the cause of the problem - the developers

<Mod edit>
DAOC did not have the feature set DF wants to have. It was a very very simple game at launch with barely any content (one of the reasons why it succeeded).    It was even called Dark Age of Content because it had so little. But yet it still took them millions of dollars and years to make.
EVE is a much simpler style of game to develop because its all free space based...  Are there hundreds of dungeons in eve??? no  Monster AI pathfinding?? no.. the list can go on..
If you're going to compare a game like DF or more importantly it's intended features to something than it should be compared to WoW because based on DF's features the work load and man power needed to pull it off right would be very similar to what was needed to make WoW.
DF (on paper) looks even more feature rich than WoW.
So please do enlighten me -- how does a group of self funded devs with no experience in building MMORPG's create a MMORPG that is more feature rich than World of Warcraft?  And make it all run just as good.
Don't you get it by now?   It's not going to happen.

Oh I see. So I guess Blizzard just spent 40 million on development of WoW when they really didn't need to?

sucks for them I guess.

Lokks like another free to play Asian game.

What is the deal with all these free to download mmorpg's popping up all over?  How do they make any money?

Seems like every year they're getting sloppier and lazier. One thing that's annoying is how they haven't added new BG maps since release. AreNAH is obviously the main focus cause is requires very little developing... All they're doing is adding repainted pve gear every few months, so the fanbois and exploiters will be happy. All they added for pve since TBC was the sunwell (not including BT, cause everyone knows it was suppose to be the main focus of TBC). All of this seems to be happening since they made a certain dev from UO lead designer. I may or may not play WAR, but I hope it annihilates WoW.

Well they're b uilding Diablo3 and starcraft 2 at the same time.
