I'm asking this because Mythic is obviously building on the foundation of DAoC for WAR it stands to reason that if you played DAoC it might give us insight into what WAR will be, and not be like in terms of core mechanics of gameplay.

I played DAoC at launch with my EQ guild.  We wanted something different from EQ, and DAoC was it.

I remember the smooth launch, the amazing scenery, and the first time I wandered out into the frontiers to check things out, and got into RVR.  I HATED PvP up to that point.  100% dyed in the wool carebear was I.  But that first night, it stoked a fire in me, and I was hooked.

I played for about 6 months, I quit for one reason.  No kidding, I got bored with the PVE grinding.  I HATED IT.    To the core did I detest the PVE in DAoC.  I wanted to be out PVPing, and wa unhappy Mythic didn't deliver on their "PVP/RVR from level 1!" promise (yes, they in fact did promise that, hell I think it was on the box to be honest with you)

I'm looking forward to WAR actually delivering on that part.  I'm fine with PVE, but PVE is in the end, dull.  It's the same thing, over and over.  Go kill some mindless computer entity.  RVR/PVP was always a dynamic situation.  The more "open" it was, the more exciting it is.  BG/Scenarios are OK, but they tend to break down easily into Zerg to Objectives.  Be interesting to see if WAR's Scenario's are as prone to becoming PVE rushes as WOW's AV is.

I am just wondering if you got your 93 Nerd Score by speaking like Yoda.

"And if did so, why'd you quit?" If I did 'So' as in listen to the Peter Gabriel album?  I did 'So' several times, it's really good.

"100% dyed in wool carebear was I", my young padawan.

"what WAR will be, and not be like in terms of .."  This is a bit Ying Yang to me.

"I HATED PVP up to that point...I got bored with PVE grinding, I HATED IT".  So now we've established you hate PVE and you hate PVP... I guess you're looking for a game that's all crafting and chatting.

"to the core did I detest the PVE in DAoC" ... You mean to the Molten Core?  Who are you asking?

"I am looking foward to WAR Actually delivering on that part."  On what part, you just started a paragraph.  Your last paragraph finished with some lies about what was printed on the DAoC box.  You want WAR to not have imaginery lies on their box?

Then after that you go on about something including WoW battlegrounds and a diatribe about PVP being more challenging than PVE.  If I were a programmer, I could make a PVE encounter that would whipe out your guild seven times a week and twice on Sunday. PVE is as challenging as you make it. If you just zombie your way through PVE encounters "oh no, we cannot try this dungeon without a Priest or Cleric, by the way, my bra-strap is a little too tight, can you help me out?" then yeah, PVE is boring.  But it turns out that PVE and PVP are both programmed by the same species.  In PVP there's a little more random factor, but in the end, it's the people with the best gear that win.  If you equalize the gear, it's rock paper scissors, just a random draw.  'Oh, no, PVP takes skill', that's the biggest lie in MMO's.  PVP doesn't take any more skill than PVE.  People who are shitty at PVE (90% of the players) are shitty at PVP, and vice versa.

That is a completely made up statistic. I have never met somebody who was great at PVP and then sucked at PVE but I meat all kinds of people who are awesome at raiding but are garbage in PvP. I imagine since it works one way that this means there are people who can't raid a dungeon but own in some pvp.

If you buy AoC right now you will feel like this guy

It just isn't a smart decision.

how much does anyone want to bet that funCON does a nge on the game in the next few months

i mean funCON sucks and this patch blows no one likes it and people are ashamed that they even went out and got it. age of CONan needs to be shutdown and forgotten about.

this game has turned into nge part 2 and anyone want to bet warhammer will fail?

If people are expecting WAR to be a WoW killer, they are in for an unpleasant surprise. It'll probably get most of the DAoC crowd and some of the Warhammer table top crowd though.

I still think it will be the second biggest mmo in the western market, only to WoW.

Well let's see..

Between beta testing WAR... *pondering* what drugs Mark Jacobs is using.. and *sighing* when I read the totally craptacular FAQ that described *Origins*...

I've been speculating to myself that I know why Mythic had to sell out to EA... as well as starting a betting pool with myself as to what the EA top brass was smoking.

So basicly I guess my new game is gambling.

Hope you're wrong....fear you may be correct.

Ex DAoCer here, playing WAR beta, check sig.

I would rather wait until open beta. That way the game will be finished. I don't want to play a buggy unfinished game. If I wanted to do that I would play AOC

And this is why you should never, never ever get into any beta for any game.  You simply want a chance to play the game before release.  where those of us that actually try to improve the game tend to get picked for beta's more often then others.  You don't want to beta test, you want to take a test drive.

On the flip side you should thank him for stating he would rather wait until Open. He isn't trying to take your beta spot and not much will change in 1 month from Open Beta testers. So in the end, Open Beta will basically be your free glimpse of the game.

While I enjoy their site because it is very active I am not really a fan of posting there other than the tech and gamer culture forums because of Mods like Browncoat. And no, I have never received an infraction on any WAR related site at all, I just don't like the way his tone is or their unprofessionalism sometimes.

The did post a picture. Go to http://www.soepress.com/release.asp?i=200 and its on the left.

ageofarkane@gmail.com and i would love you for forever.

I agree with GameLoading but I must say I am quite jelous my job doesn't give me giant checks like she got:

Look at the whole list of "Recent Actvity" since the downtime:

Arkane played Solitaire Solitaire for the first time

Arkane played The Lord of the Rings Online The Lord of the Rings Online for the first time

If it went a little deeper I think it would also show Archlord and Fury too!

It all comes down to... how long ago you registered, previous mmo experience, and computer specs.  Note about the specs, having the biggest and baddest does not get you into a beta any faster than having a mid range 2-3 year old system.  Most fo the time they want a wide variety of system specs/hardware configs to try and account for as many system oriented bugs as possible.

Actually when I got into beta my specs were not that good at all and I had recently registered before I got accepted. I don't even have Veteran Newsletter Status on my beta center account. My computer had a RadeonX1600 graphics card, 2 gigs of ram, and it was a single core 3.0 ghz processor. Just two weeks ago I upgraded and got a gaming laptop with 4 gigs of ram, a 2.5 dual core ghz processor ( 2x 2.5 ), that can be overclocked to 3.0 each core, and a 8800m gts 512. So my computer got much better but when I was accepted I had not been signed up for the newsletter long nor had even a nice computer. I do have a ton of mmo experience but I know a guild mate of mine that has only about a year of mmo experience if even that and he is in beta as we.

i love you sir, downloading now.

ageofarkane@gmail.com please and thank you in advance.

Im subbed for aoc, US servers are packed except 1 server (pve server not so much population in that server).

AOC is not dying and is currently filled with active populations here in usa.

Link to anything that shows the servers as high or packed? A simple study of log on during prime time hours and do a search would give us accurate numbers of how many people log in during the same time during the servers most popular hours.

They have a million active paying subscribers? I thought so far they've sold around a million copies.

I have the game but cancelled. Are you counting people like me in that number?

They sold 700k copies or something they said and shipped 1 million or something like that. They never once said they have 700k active subscriptions, nor 1 million.

No server merges. The OP is clearly a WoW fan who loves his night elf chick.

Stop BSing. Move along...

Actually, im currently between MMO's because AoC failed to hold my attention. I had just heard rumors of a server merge happening and was hoping for confirmation.

If you're no longer playing why would you care what's going on in the game?  There,  you just got the attention you desperately crave.

Maybe because I actually DID and to some extent still DO have hope for AoC as a game. Im following it to see if it improves, which may be unlikely, but still, I am curious.

Also, MMORPGs are my hobby, have been for over 10 years, and if AoC flops I hope that other game developers will look at it as an example of how NOT to do things, thereby improving future releases.

AOC is not going to flop.  It simply has too much going for it and alot of money backing it up.  I too wasn't thrilled with the game and cancelled my sub after the first month, but my reasons are personal, nothing against the game.  After a few more months I intend on looking at it again and maybe finish leveling my POM.

Server merger isnt going to happen anytime soon either.  When I was running around the major cities are could hardly move due to the sheer amount of people running around.  Please stop the rumour mongering please.

There are servers out there that were already pointed out in this very thread that don't even reach 300 people playing during peak hours. There were some servers though that reach around 3000 on during peak hours, but this thread obviously wouldn't pertain to them. The reason there won't be server merges soon though is because no MMORPG ever has merged servers this early after launch no matter how low the numbers were on those servers. The low server populations is not rumor mongering like you said but this thread is definitely rumor mongering.

That "Rumor" Probably came from the same  marketing company that employs the horde of Anti Funcom shills that frequent this forum.

Couldn't have been. If that were the case than those of us that no longer like FunCom would have already made a post or thread about it.

ageofarkane@gmail.com and I officially love you for forever if you get me one.

You people need to stop worrying about AOC it has proved time and time again that it is the best game of all time. SOE could only dream of a game with 1 million subs like AOC has. Instead you guys need to worry what your current MMO can do better so AOC dosnt take every last sub they have. Funcom is the most loyal company to their subscribers and does a way better job at communicating than any other MMO company has ever done.

So ask yourself when is Funcom gonna buyout whats left of Blizzard and SOE very soon I am thinking.

IT DOES NOT have 1 million subs, show me where you get this number from?

No, they are not in the same class, but both the other two were telling people to hold back on pvp in a supposedly pvp based game. You asked for more example on GMs being dumb saying things like "we have anyymous among our ranks" and telling two guilds not to fight anymore. Both guilds were like "so we can't pvp on a pvp server?". It is just more examples.
