All aboard the assit train. Dam I loved DAoC.

I loved DAoC and I have nothing against the assist train -- it was a legitimate method of slaughter.

The part I did not like was Albion Sorcerer bolt-range AOE mezz!

Freaking son of a nut-buster.  Too much CC and you just had to stand there (Purge timer depending) with "Zzzzzzz" over your head and drool coming out of your mouth until it was your time to die.

DAoC had great RvR, but the two-three shot deaths and excessive CC was the part that detracted from the RvR combat experience.  Dying fast and being CC'ed was the opposite of "combat."  It was a non-combat tactic to incapacitate your enemy and finish them off.

Yes, you can build a game around that, but I say let the CC and debuffs be MINOR and let the combat be MAJOR.

Come on, boys -- we're here to FIGHT ... not stun-mezz-snare-root-easymode-kill.

FIGHT!

Ah so the Albion sorcerer was the only one with AOE Mez. If I remeber correctly the hibby bard was the more popular choice with their aoe mez/.  Sure the mez was a tad shorter range but did that really matter since you could take care of all 3 neccessities of RVR (AOE mez/healing/speed) all from just one group member?

I just ordered mine, but are you guys saying that even if i ordered it i may not get a beta key?

That is correct - it depends on the merchant. Most merchants are out, and not actually selling the CE with keys anymore.

That doesn't sound right.  IThey can create keys with a wave of a hand. But the actual CE product has to be manufactured. So them selling CE copies and not giving out Beta keys would be dumb.

Looks good but ESACTLY the same as WOW, the UI customization is nice thought, it's just clear to see what game they were looking at when they made this one lol. The graphics and animations also looked alot nicer than the videos they put out, it's weird why a company would put out them videos they have because caus ethey look HORRIBLE and then this site puts out something that looks alot better.

Exactly like WoW?  LOL.  Not really.

Only thing they have in common is the art direction.  Except WAR isn't as vibrant as WoW, from what I've seen.  WAR has more details, too, in my opinion.  They have some similarities but they're not all that alike.

Valentina is correct too.  A lot of screenshots and videos (especially NDA breaking ones) are seen on low-ish settings so the game will run as smooth as possible.

Well the gameplay looks esactly the same to me, showed the video to my mate and he said "it's like WOW all over again" and another ex Planetside online buddy said to me he got into beta (this was awhile back) and it was a WOW clone so he quit cause he prefers the cartoony look of WOW more. I mean yeh every mmorpg these days plays the same but seeing how the quest givers works and all the details like that it's clear to see they took ALOT of the good stuff from WOW and put in in this game. Saying the only thing they got in common is the art style is stupid because the basic mechanics and UI are the same and that goes true for most mmorpgs out there because they all looked at the EQ format.

I'm not hating on the game because it actually looks really good now and I can';t wait to download a trial to try it out.

Just a shame all the stuff Mythic puts out makes the game look like crap.

Are you mental. WoW took all the crap and more you mentioned from other games. Quest givers? When have you seen quest givers act differently?

WoW stole stuff from other people. And quite honestly, Mythic is smart to make things like controls and basic functions like gettting a quest the same as WoW.  There's tons of people who will try a new MMO and quit the first week cause they can't figure out how to do something.

So making the basics the same is the way to go.

Kinda of bummed about them not focusing on any raiding.  Not that I care that muhc, but my guild probably won't change games for just pvp and small group dungeon runs.

Of course its not larger. Ever heard of Dark and Light?

The largest MMORPG you've EEEEVEEER seen... yea, they held that promise, it was as large as a premium flightsim, you could run for hours, and hours, and hours without ever encounterin anything remotely interesting. A good MMO is like a big movie-set, things look real where you are but you can change this reality within minutes  problem: Small size worlds that look small sized

Meridion

This is true. Take SWG. They had whole planets with huuuuuge zones. But you could also run for an hour and not see one sign of life. No rebels, no Emprie, not even a bunny.

The ond other thing that got me besides the one shot in early doac was mez.  My god all it took is one bard to run in and mez 50 guys. 50 people just standing around watching their teamates get slaughtered......fun times.

Mind you this was early DAOC where they didn't have the range DR and ability to shorten or unmez mez.

I just pre ordered mine. I hope they still are emailing the beta keys :P

Yes, DAOC was horrible about 1-2 shotting people.

The guy talking about his bonedancer- I hope you played DAOC during that long period between the launch and the bonedancer finally coming out. Those times were even worse.

I rememebr my scount being able to 3 shot warriors.  I could clear out 5 enemies before they could even see where I was shooting from. That was the first few motnhs of DAOC.  In the end though one lucky crit and archer could 1 shot a caster and so could a assasin.

Hoorible times I say, JK, they were great

Hoplites:

1.

How do you know cutting out the cities wasn't just the right thing to do?  I like it how people make assumptions on here then you say wait for the NDA to be lifted. But your open to make uneducated guesses on everything.

2.

Have you ever witnessed a game being "polished" in beta?  Sounds to me that's exactly what they are doing.  Did you know during WoW's last two months of "polish" they cut two dungeons and were still debating whether or not to even have a druid class.   10 classes total and they might have went with only 9 just two months before launch?!?  The content cut was the last big event to happen then they are going to polish phase.

3.

No matter how great this game is. It won't take off for at least 6 months.  During that 6 months more polishing happens, content that was left out is slowly put in and the "buzz" about how good or bad the game starts to circulate.  Then you will see subs coming in from other games.

Yes, that is how MMO's are released. Content is always cut right before Open beta.  It happened in EQ, EQ2, SWG, WoW and even WoW's TBC expansion.   No MMO as taken off right at launch and no MMO was at "full" content either.

What matters in the first 6-12 months is if the game is

a:  Playable

b: Fun

c: refreshing from other games

I think WAR can be all 3 with out 24 classes and 6 capitals.

MMO's very rarely advertise on TV, i think thats part due to money and part due to the market they are talking to.

Those who watch TV dont always go online, but alot of people dont watch TV but go online instead. Not to mention a game where ya need to be online well would be advertised there . Viral marketing and things of that nature seem to pay off more in the MMO market.

Except WoW has launched many commericals on TV and have advertised inside the actual TV show.

Oh I dont expect a flawless launch. I have been around enough launches to know what to expect. WoW had some major server stability issues at launch no doubt. My point is, AoC was far from polished. It was far from ready for launch. My point is, if WAR launches even 50% more polished than AoC its probably going to do verry well with sales past the first month.

I could be wrong. So could everyone singing doom and gloom. But unless your lieing to yourself you know that it wont take much to destroy AoC in the polish aspect.

As far as why I would believe anything GI or any other mag says I dont. I read them hopeing to find tidbits on what diffrent games have to offer. It wasnt the polish comment alone that will keep me from subscribing to it agian. There where other articles that where flat out false on what some new upcomming titles (mainly for consol) will have that is keeping me from resubbing. If the magazine cant even get features of the games right I have no reason to read it.

I wasn't talking about you specifically, but the public in general.  You have fanboys on both sides that will bring this game down the first 6 months.

On one side you have the WoW fanboys that will say "my 3 year old game is so much more smooth that any recently released title. Then you have fanboys on the other side promising it will be the next best thing since sliced bread.

When in reality MJ got it right that they should be concentrating on their own game and making tit as fun as possible.  If the game turns out great we will see subs go up 6-12 months after launch.

However if everyone held every MMO that launched ffrom now on to WOW standards, nobody will ahve a successful mmo ever.  Cause even the biggest gaming companies cannot risk millions of dollars to wait for the "perfect" MMO launch.

The realease date is fall which if by the amaizng chance they actually release in fall goes to 12/20.  Game reatiler release dates almost always have nothing to do with reality and are only set to generate the most amount of sales possible.  IMHO the earliest we can expect to see Warhammer is December.

Most companies talk about fall being somewhere in Q3, early Q4. I beleive OB will start mid to late August and launch day will be mid to late October.

Just my opinion.

Also, I think they are wanting it to launch right before or right after WOLK.  This gives them that 6 months windows every MMO needs to polish their game.  By time WOLK starts to get old people will start looking for other games.  I don't see any other MMO's coming out good enough to pass up WAR in Q2 of 2009.

Lets's also not forget DAOC was not a graphics phenom either.  Sure WAR might have the same graphics level as WoW ( although WAR's seems more real and slightly better) , But How many times in WoW do you see 300 characters fighting for one keep?

Due to the sheer number of players in one area will be overwhelming.

MMO's are not suppose to be all about graphics. Its about immersion, storyline, and playing with MANY MANY people.

If you want graphics go play a single player game.

Actually through the whole artictical GI did talk about both pro's and con's of AoC, including that it feels more like GuildWars as a game world with all the instancing. I'm not trying to bash AoC as much as point out that if people really think AoC is polished then they are in for a big suprise when a company that knows what polish is delivers a game. Same goes for blizzard. They do deliver polished products (not just in WoW). I dunno though, maybe some people forgot what polish really means?

Yes people did forget what polished MMO launch means.  But its the opposite from what you think.  If you think Warhammer is going to be as polished as wow or any other game thats been out for a year or so you are mistaken.

Yes people forget that even the super clean wow game had its faultswhen launched. It was horrible. The game was horrible for about a year after launch.

No MMO is going to be a wow killer at launch.  And its the freaks online who think it will be that will be the first ones to post bad crap about the game cause it ain't perfect.

That goes for all the people out there wondering why EA ain't promoting this game like crazy. Cause they can't.  Only the hard core MMO players can play through any launch, thats why.  I guarantee if this game takes off, you won't see the subs coming in or TV ads playing until at least a year after launch.

Oh, BTW, Mythic hasn't proven anything as far as smooth launches goes.  Even MJ admitted the main problem DAOC had was their launch was too soon and it wasn't finished.  So, just because he said he learned from that mistake doesn't mean he has until they launch.

To be perfectly honest E3 is everything the corporations want you to know.  For example for a long time now at e3 SE claimed FFXIII was exclusive.  E3 is just a way for corps to show off, don't believe thier crap until you see it first hand.

Hey, a friend of mine got into Closed Beta and I'm in Open Beta. Simple question, can someone who's in Closed Beta get into Open Beta? I thought I heard WAR Team saying that everyone goes into Open Beta they just call it that because it's more "Open" I dunno if that's true though... I don't even know if this breaks the NDA...WTH is the NDA? I never read stuff that I don't really need to!

If it is truly an open beta then yes of course as anyone will be able to download and play the open beta. That is the whole meaning to the word OPEN.

No no, Open Beta is different for WAR, people who pre-order get to go into Open Beta, thats why they say 'Open' because you're buying the beta pretty much not putting in a ticket and hoping.

In almost every single MMO I have ever beta tested they have offered a guaranteed spot in open beta for preorders and only one did I ever see where you had to have an account to get into beta (like fileplanet or gamespot).

My guess is Mythic/EA is giving away guaranteed open beta slots to preorders. However, I have been burned in so many games by preordering that getting into a beta stage (closed or open) is not enough to make me preorder.

Bah...I KNOW I'm in Open Beta, they give you a key you put it in, done when it comes they give you a client, make your player account done, they dont just magically guess that you pre-ordered and say 'Hey, you pre-ordered WELCOME TO BETA!' No, when you put the key in it knows you pre-ordered, ALL I'm asking is if my friend is in Open Beta since he's in Closed Beta!! ARGH!

And they answered you. Yes your friend in Closed Beta will be in Open Beta. They just change the name of the beta and let more people in. It's not like they keep closed and open seperatwe.

However, that doesn't mean in open beta their will be additional serves in which you might have to choose on of those if the other is too populated. But that generally doesn't happen because thats what they do in open beta. Stress tests and server performance is the main observations.

I got into beta based on one thing and that was Toronto's Gamesday event. Everything else like the writing contest (I won), BOOM comic code, computer upgrade an veteran newsletter subscriber and even asking MBJ for a beta code  was moot and pointless to be honest (none of those got me in).

To be honest though if you signed up a couple months ago or less than a newsletter veteran you are probably looking at open beta dates (my opinion).

Just hang in there and keep the faith.

Guildie of mine won the captions contest and he started beta soon after.

Uhhh, Mythic INVENTED RvR, if they say its RvR then it is. RvR has always been instanced. Battlegrounds were first in DAoC. RvR was first in DAoC. Stop whining about WoW, WoW did NOTHING unique, not a single thing. Everthing WoW had was from another game.

Your so wrong.  Just like these dwarves and orcs and crap.  WAR also has mages and stuff. WoW invented all that crap. Why is it WAR copies everything WoW does.

In fact Blizz should sue mmorpg.com for having gaming forums. We all know Blizz invented forums to talk about games as well.

Damn imitators

I forgot WoW invented BG's now.
