People said the exact same about blizzard years ago too. Will this game come out like that? I don't know, but at least we can wait and see and at least give them the benefit of the doubt. |

Blizzard did have diablo 2 over battle.net to get plenty of pvp expereince issues with balancing, hacking, etc... but I do agree with your point that people do need to stop assuming that just because the company has not made an mmo, that none of the developers have. For christs sake, Ashen Temper, one of the mods, is from Shadowbane. Who knows how many developers and programmers they have from other past mmos (not to mention Mythic) on staff. Cheers!
Yet PVP was the last thing they touched. The best example was MYthic. They didn't have any pvp experience and there wasn't even another game out at the time so they pioneered it. Yet few have matched their success in pvp. |

"Jedi should be better than all the other classes, based on the lore!"
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 10/06/09 11:42:03 PM
In episode 3, doesn't General Grevious state he has killed many of jedi during the clone wars? Didn't half the jedi viewed in the 3rd movie die at the hands of republic troops? |

How a class based system will never be balanced
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/01/09 9:48:44 AM
I really don't know why a skilled base system would be more balanced? If everyone had the same accesss to skills wouldn't someone just figure out on paper what the best skill mix is and then EVERYONE just spec that way? You would have just one gigantic FOTM. Sure it might be balanced for the drones that would just copycat the fotm build but it would beunfair to anyone who wanted some variety. You might as well just make an mmo with one class and you only get one set of skills as you level.
Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of some skill based MMO's but they are definitly not and will never be "more balanced" then class based MMO's. |

I like Aion and still playing it. However, there are some issues. WAR had huge issues and it was hard to find a "bad" review. Most reviews for WAR went something like "the game is great, buy this game, it has some problems but don;t reallly look at those buy this game." Even professional reviews are nothing to go by. The only reiewer good enough is yourself. |

A fucking quest stacker with the same gameplay, basic UI and feature set in every game? When you load up one of these games don't you get that feeling that you've done all of this before? When I load up a SP Rpg its a new experience with different gameplay mechanics, I don't bring home a game that plays like Final fantasy over and over. Those copycat games that bring nothing to the genre are given low ratings and dont sell, yet the MMO players eat that shit up and are all but destroying this genre. The MMO genre as a whole is a running joke that a 5+ year old game is so dominant. Fuck, I would go nuts if every Fps game played like Halo or every Rpg was the same shit like FF or every Action game played like GTA. Yet here you are happier than a pig in shit playing the same crap over and over and over since EQ.
It's just like every game genre. FPS games, sports games, rts games, they are all very very similiar and feels like I done them all before. It sounds like you don't like the genre so stop the hate.
I disagree. The FPS genre has come such a long way since games like Doom, Quake and Half-life. Rts games don't even resemble old shool rts and Sports even being a bit handicapped by a RL ruleset have really improved leaps and bounds. Play Madden 10 and tell me Madden 93 is the same shit.
meanwhile most people (that started with MMOs back in 97) will say WoW is just a Dumbed down version of EQ. Basically no innovation whatso ever comming from the themepark (linear) sub genre.
Really?? Tell me the huge difference between doom and current fps, besides graphics? real time cutscenes? vehicles? and huge jump in fps gaming can be equated to the huge jumps mmo's have made. But in the end, FPS are shoot em up games, with repetative play, and ironically the shotgun is usuallly still your best gun, lol...
My point is yes mmo are quest grinders, treadmills, bad stories, but people like them. MMO's like every other genre will have their "breakout" games and there will be different types however the basic concept, just like the basic conepts for RTS'es and FPS'es will always be the same. |

Aion is nothing new or different. The ONLY difference is that its got an asian artstyle. Thats it! nothing innovated nothing far superior to western games. The graphics are not that great. I like LOTR's graphics and art style way more the Aion's. Sure those games you posted look great but so does other western next gen mmo's. Thats why they are called NEXT GEN, they hopefully have next gen graphics. |

If you did COH and CO then you should have put warhammer as DAOC 2 in there also. Different IP yes, but definitly it was same the company, same genre, and even feature their same patented "RvR". And like a previous poster said about why AC2 failed so did Warhammer failed. Instead of making WH a DAOC 2 they alienated every mythic fan that was salivating over Mythic's next project. |

Why do people call Aion 'Grind Fest'...please provide numbers.
General Discussion « Aion 9/28/09 7:44:35 PM
I don't know, I felt the grind in all of wow including wolk. Sure mini games are different but they are still the same if your stuck doing them everyday over and over again, just a different grind.
I'm not knocking WoW, but their game has been around for years. Like a previous poster stated it is alot easier for them to develop newer content then these newer MMO's.
Bottom line however, the grind is going to be there when your elveling up. The real grind concerns should be at the end game. WoW still his a huge grind at end game and thats where yoyu will be spending most of your time in a game. |

If you like quality PvE, stay AWAY from Aion --GRINDER
General Discussion « Aion 9/28/09 2:31:15 PM
Why is everyone calling this a typical eastern grinder????? You grind no more or less then EVERY otther western MMO out here. It has nothing to do with it being a eastern themed game. Course, I can't get pissed about it cause if it didn't have that eastern look you would just say its your typical wow clone. So which is it? WoW clone? Eastern grinder? Or maybe perhaps trolls that don't like MMO's in general should just stop playing MMO and stop posting here like they actually know something. |

An idea for a completely different MMORPG
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 9/25/09 10:11:42 PM
if your thinking of something like a Myst mmo where all you do is explore then it wouldn't probably be popular, but it would definitly have a following. I do agree mmo's tend to be more linear then the older mmo's. I don;t think people explore becuase they don't HAVE to explore. Why go to this edge of the map when my glowing quest map dot says my quest is at the other end. reminds me of old everquest. You had to explore because you didn't have some many indicators telling you exactly what direction to headed to when ever you were trying to find something.
yes new age mmo players might find this kind of thing tedious. however , I think there is a good chunk of players that would go for a hard core game like the old ones. |

Now I see why some people hate this game and its not even the game itsself.
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 9/15/09 6:03:16 PM
I agree and disagree with the op. ITs the chicken beofre the egg kind of arguement. Is wow a bad game becuase of the community? OR is the community bad becuase of wow? I think the latter and then it spirals out of control.
I really didn't know how bad the community was until I left my guild and wow and started playing LOTRO by myself. I don't group alot in LOTRO nor belong to any guilds. However I only met one problem juvenile person the 6 months since I started the game. |

I agree with warhammer and tabula rasa.
Warhammer would be better fantasy movie then wow, at leas tin my opinion and tabula rasa's intro movie was epic. first time I saw saw it, I thought this should be a movie. Has a great story to boot. I however don't really think that a massive population of super heroes would make a good movie. Alot of cartoons took a stab at it and didn't really turn out. Justice league or the equivilant marvel movie would be enough superheroes in one movie. But not thousands...
EDIT: oh and iagree with some of the other posters. Eve wuld make a really good tv series or at leat a mini series. Maybe stick the Firefly people in Eve's world hehe. |

I agree that people are entitled to their opinions and in the end they get to choose whether or not they pay money for the game. However, people are being way too hyper-critical when it comes to all new MMO releases, and especially Aion. Some people come to these boards to see what games are like from others perspective because they may have not gotten a chance to play in the betas and try it for themselves. When you have people posting ridiculous things such as "just another korean grindfest" or "wow clone" they are putting other people off on the game for no legitimate reason. Aion is an already successful game in Asia, and it's not hard to predict that it will be successful in the West. There is no opinion there, it's fact. Aion has been winning many rewards at gaming expos, Top Online Game of 2009 and Best MMORPG of PAX most recently at PAX up against stiff competition such as SW:TOR and WOW:Cataclysm. While I know it is not everyones cup of tea, Aion is here to stay and will be well received by the majority of the MMO community. I also understand that the majority of posters on this forum are people bored of the genre and feel the need to troll every new release, but new people checking out games might not be so informed. This attitude towards new release MMOs needs to stop, or the genre will not continue to grow and will breed an even worse community than it already has.
1st, I think Aion is a great game so far from what I played of it. Now, I understand its hard to hear other people complain and make some outrageous acusations against the game. However your making some pretty wild claims on your end of the arguement too. I mean WAR was winning awards left and right and look how that game turned out. And becuase the game does well in Asia means it will do well in North America? Hardly... So before you complain more about people judging this game too harshly, maybe you should tone down your obvious blind love for the game. Again, I think Aion is great and has ptotential, but I wouldn't claim everyone is wrong and say this game will do great, cause nobody really knows yet. |

World of Warcraft: Critiquing the Latest Update
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/04/09 9:19:20 PM
I try not to bash articles on this site but this one just doesn't make sense.
Why is somone who has only been playing 4 months doing this article. It sounds like you have absolutely no idea what a "big" change is. I mean anyone who remembers battlegrounds pre arenas would know that this new exp and arena point system is jsut like the old system. Of course now your going to have XP ninjas and point ninjas. I just left WoW and the only big changes I saw didn't fix anything I disliked about the game when I left. Don't get me wrong. I liked WoW for many years. however after countless dissapointments and the constent nerfing of content after I just spents months trying to complete it hard mode I was done. |

I thin the OP is right. the term WoW clone is used waaaaay too much. Sure people use it rightly to describe the "dumbing down" of a genre, but way too many people use it to explain interface, controls, and the base mechanics of quests and applying a "turn base" board game into a video game. Alot of people just don't like the mmo genre at all but they just think its games copying blizzard. |
