Probably wicked wrong here. But isn't it illegal to hide/misconstrue evidence in an openly traded company to investors?

Not that it would stop them even if it was.

They only need to report financial and legal information when reporting.  Their financials do have to include how much revenue and costs they have but they can hide where both are coming from somewhat.

We never have a way of actually knowing, and really in the end it does'nt matter. Personally I have continue to lose respect for Blizzard over the years, to me they are no longer the same company they were when they released games like D2 and WC3 People, however, still greatly enjoy their games and thats fine with me. I never understood the pure need to know exactly how many subscribers a game has, or to look at everything a game company says, as lying.

Ya knowing the EXACT nummbers of subs and wether a game lost a few or gained a few was never that important to me.  However, unfortunately the popularity of an MMO, unlike other type of games, effects their current playerbase and changes teh direction of the development of that game.

This is totaly unlike console or single player games that dont require constant updating.  This is why major changes in MMO subs wether up or down are worthy of looking at.  A desparate company thats hemmorging subs will make sweeping changes to their game where as a company thats gaining subs will make changes but keep on the same path they are on.

Whats the deal? what s with all the hate this game had more hype then a train at max speed. Where did it all go!?!?!? srsly let me know, Should i buy it or Nay!

Even IF you beleive all the haters and the game is as bad as THEY say it is.  If you compare this game to single player games or console games.  Its definitly worth picking up for $60 and playing a month.  You would get as much enjoyment if not more then most otehr console games in that month just playing the class story(s) out.

To the OP.  i also like rift.  And like you said.  Rift has since launch improved their game dramatically.  I think you should take that as a lesson that some devs can imrpove a game over time.

So with that said, wouldn't it be fair to give Bioware the same amount of time to work out bugs and insert more content as Rift has had.  Rift came out 9 months before SWTOR.  Its only fitting to see what bioware can do in 9 months.

Personally as it satnds right now, SWTOR is as good if not better then rift was after just 1.5 months after release.  And Bioware has already done some good improvements and the things on their plate they claim will be added soon look great.

I'm sticking with SWTOR because.  Fro people complaining and have a lot of MMO experience should be ashamed at bashing an MMO this early after launch.  You vets should have learned by now that you can;t really judge an MMO until after about 6 or so months after launch.  And you should have also known that if you waant a perfect game you need not buy the game until that time frame has past.

Same...would overall love a refund on the game, but I do think leveling from 1 to 49 was decent. The story was pretty fun for sorc. I probably could have passed on the game overall, especially after experiencing what little end game there is for a 200 million (?) dollar game. Pretty apalling actually.

For people saying others rushed through the amazing story by hitting spacebar, I have to laugh. Most people who play casually in my guild (around 2 hours a night) have already hit 50 and took their time through the story, including myself. It was a great story for most classes, but let's not kid ourselves about how much story is really in the game.

Hero engine is what truly killed it for me, and I'm not convinced after 1.1 that BW knows how to program effectively at all whether it be for optimization or pvp objectives. My issues go much deeper though in terms of what is available for someone to do. I would never honestly expect someone to keep paying a monthly fee for what BW has provided for us at endgame. Serious lack of content and instance/raids that are a joke (either buggy as hell or ridiculously easy). I wanted so bad to love this game and for it to provide me something to do, especially after getting burned on FFXIV. I find myself playing my PS3 way more than TOR already though...

I spend $60 buck on video games that I play to death in about a month.  SWTOR is no different so even if I thought the end game was too crappy, I would still consider the game a good purchase.

It was a number thrown out by a legitimate news source. We will all know in about 2 weeks when EA releases its financials so it's probably a moot point but one worth speculating on with regard to the larger picture painted by the warring stockbrokers. :)

Yep and I'm sure you are licking your chops to see some kind of underwhemling number come out of it.  Can't wait to read that story.....

Our in-game metrics are able to give us precise details on where players were, what they were doing and what rewards they gained.

That is good to know

Have you seen their in game metrics program?  It is pretty nifty.  they can get instant real time numbers on just about thing happening on the servers and organize it by just about any criteria you could think of.

Its not an oversight.  You can get teh founders title by subbing to the game before the deadline.  Like the above poster said.  Its awful trendy to nitpick things to death.  Its a company, they are doing business.  This includes marketing.  How is this different then anything else?

Well I canceled my account today with bioware, uninstalled the game as well. Sorry but this is not an MMO, more like a single player game with some mmo stuff tacked on. Space battles are a snoozefest, game engine is horrible, combat is pretty good though it gets boring fast, pvp is a mess and not much fun to be honest, leveling is your standard boring get this do that, kill 10 of these fuck that I have a job I dont need another one. This game is designed to be a B2P and EA/Bioware wants to charge a monthly fee, I think they are out of their minds to be honest sorry. Anyway bye bye and hello Arenanet, now their game looks innovative and the engine rocks.

ah yes, the difference betwen killing 10 rats and killing 10 rats or collecting 10 pieces of rat shit

but I am sure you will complain about the standart quest in GW2 too right?

as for it feeling like a sp game, well if you choose not to do any of the 6-7 heroic group quest per planet, or any of the dungeons or the pvp then yes, but that's not the fault of the game

^^this^^

I understand some people will not like the game but honestly if you want to claim things like this is a SPRPG only then you folks jsut chose not to play the game.  There's plenty of things to do with people in this game.

And as for GW2.  I'm looking forwarded to it.  But I just dont see where all this "innovation" talk comes from.  I've seen the combat in person.  Not very innovated at all.  Is it more dynamic then say, SWTOR?  Maybe, but its far from this "OMFG its goign to be so Fcking COOL!" thing people are touting.

i guess we forget that the $775 million also includes game franchises like Dragon Age and Mass Effect.......

Its not hard for a MMO as popular as this to make up its cost, especially with the inital box sales hitting over one milion.  SWTOR will be fine and EA will have a somehwat great success.  SWTOR could be a cash cow but it all will come down to what BW will do over the next 6-12 months.

By the looks of the latest patch and all the small patches they do I think they are on the right track.

good review, the only complaint you have that I would take issue with is the that the world is too railroaded.  Yes it seems that way for the first 20 levels.  But I am guessing you never made it to Hoth or Tatt.  The worlds really start to open up once you get tpast level 25 or leave Nar Shaddah

I dont see what the big deal is.  I've always had an updated top of teh line hhigh end PC and never in any MMO did I really get close to anything that would warrant even having high end detail.  I dont zoom in on anything, so for me no biggie.

In SWTOR the high resolution is only really needed in the cutscenes IMHO.

What will be the verdict? I think we're going to see a pretty big negative response from players. Considering the lack of real beta testing for operations, the chances of them actually being fun, balanced and not buggy are pretty slim.

And yes, I realize some players have already started raiding. I'm talking about a few weeks from now when the majority of the server is 50 and endgame starts becoming the main focus.

My guild already started EV last week and to be honest it is just so buggy it is not even funny - 8 resets, bosses never appearing, boss mechanics bugging out completely resulting in complete raid wipes, whole party dropping dead randomly after reviving on the republic ship, etc etc etc.

Don't want to ***  people off but this game is so not finished and won't be I don't think for months. I would forgive them if the raiding was a little bugged and PVP functioned properly but because the PVP is so pointless and non-existant on ilum and warzones so pants I can't.

I call BS, because I never had hardly any problems raiding EV. So  why dont you come back when you actually did it.

Hey MMORPG.com can we get some real stories up in here.  I iknow most of your fans ae sandbox fanboys, but can we stop with the crappy stories....

My predictions, for what they're worth:

  • Diablo 3 hits later than anticipated (easy prediction; Blizzard is always late in releasing major titles), probably some time in the summer

  • Mists of Pandaria hits on schedule, but only after having major features cut at the last minute (anyone anticipating it hitting earlier than scheduled is dreaming; has Blizzard *ever* released a title early in its entire history?)

  • Blizzard keeps Titan in the freezer after its management decides not to do anything that would interfere with the WoW cash cow in any way

  • Secret World severely disappoints

  • Guild Wars 2 releases in the fall, to favorable reviews, but does not quite meet expectations

  • Star Wars: The Old Republic cranks out content to keep subscriptions up and manages to stay alive

  • Rift continues to dwindle toward Vanguard-esque irrelevance, with a small but highly dedicated player base that is not quite enough to fund new development

  • Mobile MMOs continue to disappoint

  • MOBAs continue to strengthen, with League of Legends dominating the market, Heroes of Newerth following in a distant second place, and Dota 2 prompting everyone to ask:  why, exactly, did Valve decide to invest so much into developing a game that is a straightforward but mediocre copy of a freely downloadable custom maps

A little bleak, but very likely, I shouldn't wonder.

+1.  Quality predictions.

I think that SWTOR will running strong as free to play by the end of 2012 or early 2013.  That is the only change to these predictions I would make.

I think that the OP predictions are also good.  I think Titan will be announced 2013 but its possible they'll announce it late 2012.

You are dreaming if you think SWTOR will go F2P

EA/BW has said they need to sell $500k copies to break even.

That said, an MMO's monetary success or failure does nothing to it in the eyes of the community and rightfully so.

AoC has a positive cash flow right now and the game is actually making FC money since F2P. But just because AoC's financial reports look pretty doesn't mean FunCon is a great MMO developer does it?

Similarly, take WoW - the game has a lot of negatives. But if you were to judge it on the basis of how muc money they rake in, they're the best MMO ever.

they said they need 500K subs not $500 in box sales.  Not trying to aruge against your point but just wanted to clear that up.

And this thing was beta tested??

Mail between main and alts?  I mail my alts all kinds of stuff.......  This is probably the least bug free mmo launch ever.....

I dont see the problem if the game is down ill just do something else if i ever will be that addicted to a game that i need to be on the gameside while the game is doing an update or else ill suffer withdraw i think it would be time to stop playing all together.

The problem that you obviously dont grab, is, that people like me have timeframes, were we can play or relax in forums.

Once this timeframe ended, i have to deal with real life again.

The other occurance with your misunderstanding is, it is not a problem that the game went down, it is coz also the forums went down, so i have to relax here - honestly not a bad place to share opinions :)

So you forgot that servfers were going to be down and now pissed becuase the website is down along wit thewebsite server?  How exactly is keeping the website server up goig to help you remember when thegame servers are goign to be up?

This complaint is quite hilarious.  i love these troll.

i would be able to get more informations on swtor.

i would be able to see if any events are maybe planned, we just had launch, you remember ?

i would be able to do alot of things outside the game on the swtor website and even if i only check my personal account for the fun, it is not common practise, to completely close the whole game presence.

also im not "pissed".

im sorry for you, haveing too many trolls arround so you dont get someone for real anymore :(

Everyone tells me to use Doc, so he gets the gear upgrades, and I can't imagine he's a very good DPS.  That said, I don't view kiting as soloing, rather kiting is what you do when you actually cannot solo what you're fighting.  Taking advantage of movement mechanics so that the mob can never actually hit you always felt like a borderline exploit to me.

So in other words you don't want to take advantage of the abilities your character has?  Got it.

Also, I have no idea what your doing wrong against "strong" mobs, but you obviously are.  I see other Marauders rip through them.

You should not have to kite elites just to kill them.  If you do, you've proved my point that the class is underpowered.

It's pretty obvious that BioWare intended for the snare to be a PvP ability.

Wait! are people seriously suggesting that you should kite with your melee class?? If you have to play your class in a manor that's completely contrary to it's intended design thats sort of suggest that something seriously wrong with the class...

Um, you can kite in melee.  Hit him and kite until your cooldoans are active againa nd hit him again, then kite some more.  Are you seriously saying becuase melee can kite there is something wrong with the game?  I call it a breath of fresh air when playing melee.

Back on topic.  i level a merc, an operative, a juggernaut, and assassin all to mid 30's and been having fun with all four in pvp.  i dont really see any over/under power with any of them.,  I can tell you thought like the above paragraph, melee has some nice starts to do (especially in pvp), that doesnt require you only to chase mindlessly people around hope to whack them with your sword a few times.  Again, breath of fresh air!
