You can upgrade your account status and that is it.

Why would they sell rings of mara when you can get them in game? And this information is openly available.

Stop assuming that because you can upgrade your purchase that there then will be single items to buy.

Ruining story, good one hahaha. Im sure its what they said though.

We never landed on the moon either. It was all done on a Hollywood sound stage.

Considering the no delay talking it is entirely possible. lol

No one knows the campaign cap yet, it hasn't been announced.

People are speculating 1200.

This would mean 300v300v300 (900) as the softcap and 1050 (allowing for an extra 100 players per faction) for friends to play together with each other before hitting the hard cap.

They said they want to keep the campaigns balanced between all 3 factions so 2000 wouldn't be in line with that. Firstly it's not a balanced number (667 players for 2 factions, 666 for another) and secondly it could lead to 667 vs 200 which is a massive imbalance.

Official quote:

Yes, campaigns feature a soft cap to limit the number of participants from one alliance. There’s room for overflow that will allow you to join your friends or guild members in an otherwise full campaign, but eventually there is a hard limit to that. You’ll be able to join campaigns with your friends, but we want to ensure that an alliance can’t bring too many additional combatants in and hurt the overall balance.

Ah here it is. Found the link:

buffed: How many players are possible per campaign?

Matt Firor: The beta test will show that. Our starting point at the moment is at 2,000 players and 200 participants per battle. Cyrodiil is huge, it is nine times the size of a PvE area! So 2,000 people can be in different parts of the area and participate at the same time in different battles.

Aye, sorry, I meant to say confirmed, not announced. They're still toying with those figures and I assume will make a decision on this weekend's test.

Also depending how you read that, it means 200v200v200 is the targeted amount for concurrent players? Feels a little low. I don't really understand the "200 participants per battle" thing.

It means that is how big a single battle can be in a particular area. Cyrodil will support up to 2000 players.

Selling more CE's is likely what Zenimax was expecting.  The unknown factor though is how many potential buyers for the standard edition got put back on the fence, after perceiving Zenimax differently.  This would keep standard-edition sales low.

Everything can be put with a spin.  For instance, another big IP that got hyped up a couple years ago limited their CE's .. and sold out like 5 times or so, just for the free press releases.  CE's were plentiful after launch in that case, and even went to retailers to be liquidated 50-80% off (6 months post-launch); there was way to many produced.

VGChartz may be useful for comparison, although if I recall it is for US data only.  (

I think if the CE put people on the fence then I think they were probably on the fence to begin with. For me I was going to buy it anyway and the perks for CE is just a bonus. There is just to much fun to be had to let that stand in your way when there is no disadvantage in gameplay for not having the CE.

For some reason beyond me there still seems to be misinformation being spread so I'll try to explain.

1. All preorders will receive the benefit of playing any race any faction. This is the explorers pack. People who do not preorder can after launch upgrade their account to receive the explorers pack ( according to CSRs ).

2. The Imperial addition allows players to play as an Imperial with unique racial abilities ( all races have unique racial abilities ) , use the imperial crafting style , early access to a horse , a cosmetic to change the look of any armor to look of imperial make , a vanity pet and rings of mara for increased experience gain while you are playing with the person that has the other ( it doesnt work otherwise ).

There has been reports of CSRs hinting that the Imperial race can be unlocked in game. If that is the case then the CE is just early access. This would fit their concept of them being exiles. Not confirmed.

3. There will be no in game cash shop. You cannot click a button on the UI and buy exp potions , mana potions , health potions , mounts , gear..etc. However on the webpage under your account you can upgrade your account status.

4. There is no advantage to playing as an Imperial.

I dont understand the point of NDA.

Many gamers apparently think that companies use NDA's to hide things from players.

NDA's are typically created to protect what the company feels to be valuable information from competitors and has nothing to do with players at all.

Sometimes, it's not even strictly about either of those, if a marketing department has enough pull within a company, they can set timetables for information release so that their staff can hit deadlines to produce videos, artwork, talking points, setting up exclusive interviews, etc.

Now, keep in mind, just because we (the gamers) don't think something is unique, new, or worth protecting, doesn't mean the company shares that view of their own product.

I understand NDA's early in the development cycle but by now? doesnt make sense.

I wonder if all NDA agreements also involved players buying something...that would explain a lot

Seeing as how they havent talked about high level content and adventure zones maybe they feel it is still needed. And they have only talked about the basics of Cyrodil.

Not sure what you mean by buying something.

Usually the launcher starts to preload a patch before invites are sent out. No action so far so another beta weekend doesnt look good for this weekend. Still time though.
I think I will wait for some more polish / features before I buy. Looks fun though.

No one else finds this to be completely lore-breaking?

did you find it lore breaking when an argonian or an Imperial became nerevarine?

did you find it lore breaking when a dark elf became the dragon born?

or when a high elf joined ulfric?

speak to Zenimax (or in the case of the single player games, bethesda) about that.

Bingo. These self proclaimed lore junkies always complain but yet are never right in their complaints. What was it before? Something about Molag Bal being prince of ..something ( I cant remember ) and they whined about that up until an actual lore passage and game reference to Molag Bal by that name was put right in front of their face.

I expect gangbuster sales and then moderate retention.  I honestly believe they would have done better with Buy to Play and DLC.  I guess it depends on how good the updates are after launch.

And the players would suffer for it because the content getting released would be shallow kinda like GW2 and its content updates.

Kinda disgusted by this game, over priced box, sub fee (i dont mind sub fee's) + cash shop, a race behind a huge paywall.

This is swotor, a huge cash grab before a very ugly free to play transition and once again, leaving all you pre order people with a bitter taste in your mouth.

agree, i've go with all ES products since morrowind to skyrim. however i'm not a blind fan, i wont support a greedy company that charge: box sell + $15 sub + cash shop + expansion.

ESO think too highly of themself and become arrogant, maybe they think this game will be WOW killer or something. with NDA still on and trying to quickly grab money, i have the feeling that they dont plan a long future with this game.

the game will still run with its fans base and survive like FF14 or SWTOR. however i'm sure that it wont get money from me. its just business, we are no longer in a time that only WOW, EQ2, FF11 are the only mmo

Lets see... Box sales recoup development costs. The sub fee means high quality additional content being made after release and not lame stuff like GW2 adds. There is no cash shop other than allowing players to upgrade their purchase editions. And an expansion isnt going to be coming for a year or 2 after release.

Arrogant? No just the typical AAA MMO pricing scheme. The MMO genre has taken a nosedive ever since non MMO gamers have arrived. That and all these f2p games from asia.. A bunch of trash games.

You are right that there are more MMOs than just WoW , EQ2 , FF11 and LotRO ..ect. But they are really the only good ones ( EQ2 and LoTRO I dont consider that good anymore ) and WoW is the top dog with a sub fee and FF11 is doing quite well with a sub fee as well. Then we have GW2 that is buy to play with a cash shop.. A game that gets " content " updates that have practically nothing in them.

All these F2P games that have popped up over the years are a complete and utter waste. Their designs are terrible with clumps of enemies with no real thought to the area or anything. Sure people play them but only because they are free and for some because they can buy their way to the top.

Paying a premium for a AAA game is well worth it in the end IMO.

Alpha, as we were told earlier this week at the press event, is a vertical slice of the game with -some- features, and even those aren't fully fleshed out. In addition, animations and whatnot are only 60% complete. If people are expecting even beta quality during alpha testing, they're going to be disappointed. This test is designed to get feedback from players and to work with the dev teams at a point where changes to the fundamental gameplay can still happen.

Then they shouldnt be charging 60$ and 100$ to access it.

Any flak early access games get is well deserved especially when they are charging so much for it.. People forget companies PAY people to test games in this state not the other way around.

Here's something I ran across last night - someone asked them and got a response. I knew this thing had a strategy.

"Imperials will be able to be unlocked in-game... Proof (kinda)"

It came from here:

I hope so for the sake of the long term health of the game.  It's still poor form to do a bait and switch by not informing players of this properly before they make the decision to buy the collectors edition or not, and I still think they are making a mess of the factions by opening them up.  Hopefully the faction / race unlock can be unlocked in game too for the sake of fairness.

Not really a bait and switch. If the imperial race can be unlocked in the game then that just means anyone with the CE has it unlocked from the start which is still a good perk. They never said it was the only way to play as an Imperial.

At this point now that we know the facts about the preorder and deluxe edition perks, which include access to more races with bonuses, faster mounts, and more, anyone who thinks this game won't launch (or add shortly after launch) a cash-shop selling cosmetic AND non-cosmetic goods is simply naïve.

Box sales made companies lots of money.  Subscriptions every month made them more.   F2P/P2W cash shops made them even more than that.  But now they have realized, why not have box sales, subscriptions, AND a F2P/P2W cash shop, all three at the same time?!   Welcome to MMO's in 2014.  Massive Money Obtainers

The Imperial with passives something all the races have.

Faster mounts? Where did you pull this from? Sheesh

And more? You mean allowing players access to the imperial crafting style right off instead of learning it in game? Or the cosmetic item to make your armor look of imperial make? Or the vanity pets? So game breaking those are!

The only thing that could be in the " shop " would be the explorers pack and the imperial unlock ( probably ) for those that missed / did not preorder. And that would be their fault since Zenimax is giving the first for free for just preordering and the latter in the CE.

The sky isnt falling no matter how much you scream for it to be so.

No. What it did was prove that everything they said about why they used the base game design was a complete and total lie.

Most TES fans that got upset about the game was WHY ISNT IT OPEN WORLD like TES games? We were told they HAD TO make it this way for realm pride and because MMOs require sacrifices.

It was all BS, like most people said and they PROVED it. Its not a laurel, its a carrot on a stick to lead us away from the real issue, a poor game design that was just shown to be worthless made by people with no intention of making a TES game, just a DaoC remake.

No. It just means they heard what some people said and their dislike of the faction lock. And with a simple preorder they can now do what they wanted. The faction lock was originally there to keep one faction from being vastly more populated than the others.

The only controversy is coming from the people that have always bashed on TESO no matter what.. Now that they offer the option its " OMGZ what they said before was a LIE!111!!1! ".

But it was a lie.

If they were doing a service to everyone they wouldn't be locking content behind a pay gate or pre-order they would made all races playable by everyone.  I say content because each race is suppose to have their own skill line.

If it turns out that all races don't have their own skill line and its simply cosmetic its no big deal.  Otherwise its paying for extra content.

Races do not have their own skill line. They have passives but no skill line. The only skill lines comes from the guilds , weapons and base class.

[mod edit]. I really wanted the boxed CE but I decided I didnt need it even though the box and artbook would be amazing to have.

Edit : Mods.. You do realize saying you were in the beta is not breaking the NDA right? Straight from Zenimax. So get over it already.

The only backlash if from the few people here on these forums. Most major sites, got loads of pre-orders. Just a small vocal few on here starting all the drama.

Indeed. It mostly is the same few that have always complained about TESO.

I think the regular preorder bonus and the Imperial Edition bonus are probably the best perks I have seen for an MMO. Most of the time its junk that never get used unless its a mount.

The preorder perk of being able to play with any race in any faction is pretty great I think however I do believe that the explorers pack will also be available to upgrade to after launch. This is something many people wanted ( I didnt care one way or the other ) and now they can have it by simply preordering the game before release. This IMO was probably added when they saw feedback about the faction lock from some people.

The Imperial Edition perk of being able to play an Imperial is fine with me but I can see why some wouldnt like it.. But this is a perk for supporting the game. And the prices for both preorders will only be going up after all these vouchers expire.

Actually, pre-release starts on March 31st which is 2 months to the day.

You might want to recount.

Yeah, 2 months and 2 days. My bad.

Whoops. I had the 24th stuck in my head. I guess because Reaper of Souls comes out March 24th.
