This game was overhyped by gamers for one simple reason.. there is nudity in the game. And it aint done that well either. IMO if devs want nudity in the game ( its only there to sell copies honestly ) then do it in CG. Dont force us to watch a horrible looking pixel body that dances like Elains " lil kicks " from Seinfeld.

This game aint that bad for a f2p.. There are some things that need to be improved though.. The chat system needs to be redone - the WASD movements need to be better and less ice skaty - combat animations could be smoothed out a bit - combat abilities need to fire faster..ect.

I was also under the impression that when playing on the PvE server you couldnt be attacked if you did not click the PvP button. I was either wrong or some have found a way to bypass that ( saw a couple people attacking afkers at the Zan Temple ).

Allods has the quality but the cash shop is just way overpriced and pretty much forcing people to buy those " get out of jail " potions is just pure greed.

Blizzard is still living off the reputation of people that have left that company over 5 years ago. Sure they still make pretty good games but they certainly are not what they used to be.  I always liked Diablo and Stacraft for many years but I'm certainly not impressed with the work they have done on SC2 or D3. It is certainly time to give other developers their due for their hard work and efforts. I believe Runic Games will make a oustanding multiplayer Torchlight 2 and mmo.

Couldn't  agree more. They've become afraid of taking risks and lost the touch for innovation. Starcraft, Warcraft 3, Diablo 2, WoW, great games, but after WoW they became lazy and complacent, or maybe the original team got changed too much, with people with a different mindset steering the course. Or maybe they have become the victim of their own succcess.

Sure, Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 will probably be a success, they should be with the amount of money and time that has been thrown towards those games.

But there are companies who are more on top of their game than Blizzard, other companies who make great games and still have the guts to take risks or create new franchises. Bioware with Dragon Age and Mass Effect is a good example.

Oh, Dragon Age, that game that plays just like NWN. DA is overrated, but I enjoyed it for a bit. Nothing special about it, nothing new and special seen in DA that makes it praise worthy. So Bioware took a huge risk in slapping a new name and a new story together? Mass Effect was alright, pretty much a snooze fest. It had a great story but the game was easy, even on insane difficulty. And, what exactly did Mass Effect bring to the table that was so radically new? Nothing.

The decisions you make in ME ,ME2 and DA effect your gameplay, epic story and not to mention one heck of a fun franchise to play where as Blizzard has done besides milk WoW  and taake over 10 years to give us SC2 and still working on D3 ?  SC2 is nothing more than an expansion and D3 if they do not change it will be a WoW-like dungeon crawler.

I cant believe people still fall for the " every decision matters " when it matters very little.. I played through ME several times and never noticed a worthwhile difference. I played through DA several times and the only decision worth making is who you want to fight for you and even then you dont even get to see the armies you gathered unless you summon them yourself.

The Blizzard hate is ridiculous.. I guess its the " cool " thing to do and so the sheep do it.

A game like Oblivion is much to simple to be a serious MMO.. No crafting system , not so great combat ..ect. You couldnt just take Oblivion or Gothic and make it an MMO. It would require a major rework in just about all areas.

A game in the Elder Scrolls universe.. Sure.

I really dont see what people are complaining about.. D3 just offers a color palette that has more than just gray , dark gray , black and red. It isnt like the game is Hello Kitty Online now.. D3 just offers more detail , smoother textures and a large variety of colors ( which is realistic ) over the previous games.

This also allows them to create a much larger variety when it comes to gear art and gear has always been ' it ' when it came to the series.

The real threat to discrete graphics right now looks to be services like Onlive. You can use ANY computer to play your game. That means a 400$ dell desk top or a $300 compaq laptop, possibly even a netbook could all run the same games.

Those services will hold more value for gamers with very low budgets. Gamers with an income who like to maintain a fast PC, download mods, and retain control over their system will not use those services.

It will hopefully never replace the demand for high end consumer video cards, but agree that it will affect the market share to some degree.

There will be to much latency to play twitch based games too.. And from the looks of it the pricing is going to be terrible.. 15$ a month for pretty much nothing + game fees.

As for this " new " render method.. It may be useful on extending clip ranges and view distances without using much power or losing tons of detail but that may be about it. I also saw some chugging when they were flying through some of those demo scenes

Oh an /laugh for using a WoW tree as to why polygons are bad.

DRM is a waste of money..

For whatever reason devs and publishers and whoever else is stuck on the idea that if their game doesnt have DRM that no one will buy it.. But that isnt true as games like Oblivion and SoTSE proved ( among others ).

And here I thought the original game was bad/boring.. This expansion is the biggest ripoff I have seen in a long time.

Would have been better off if it had coop.. I bought and played the game for a couple weeks when it launched but havent touched it since ( not even on my PC now ).

Not a bit interested in the MMO either.

You are forgetting one important fact.. The 5000 " players " will not be on all at once.. If they plan to only sell 5000 copies then you can expect to have less than 1000 players on at a given time ( probably not even that ).. Thats about the size of a closed beta test phase ( which fits my opinion of this " limited launch " ).

Your WoW example doesnt fly either considering there were probably 15000 unqiue players on a server with 2500 - 3000 on at the same time.

I didn't forget that. The average Sandbox player plays much more than the average WoW player, and populations are more active right after a launch. I don't think my estimate of 1500 players at peak hours was too high. We'll see, though. You can't compare the gameplay of the two games. It was just to give an idea of the size of the world compared to the number of players. Even with 500-1000 players online, I doubt it will seem empty.

Anyway, 5000 accounts means that theoretically there can be 1500 towns. (3 characters per account, 10 characters in a tribe to build a town). I think they'll need the space even if they split up into just 100-200 tribes.

You have zero proof of what you just spewed.. ZERO.

At the start I am sure 500-1000 players will make the game seem full because everyone will be in the same areas.. Spread that over a few months ( like the suggested ) and the game would be a ghost town.

Either way you look at it they are covering for something and it aint hype or making sure they arent flooded with players.

Anybody ever heard of Darkfall? It's a total sandbox, and guess what? It's pretty darned good, too. Kicks the crap out of MO.

DF isnt a sandbox.. Its a arena based pvp game where the arena is a large empty world. DF is only a sandbox to those that have no clue on what a sandbox game truly offers.

MO is going to have the same problem.

Most people that want a harsh death penalty have never experienced such.

no most just want the easy button, the dumbed down gameplay of WoW with a different skin. where death is just a port home for a charge (repairing your gear). how many times have you heard in a dungeon "oh im just going to suicide out" ... think you heard that in a EQ1?

how many times has a ranger or huntard decided the tank wasn't pulling fast enough and decided to agro another mob. think that happened in EQ1 or a game with harsh DP? ever had a group say "alright guys watch your AOEs" and someone in the group who is trying to show off their uber damage ... does it anyway? think that happened in a game with harsh DP?

no ... because you had to play smart, something gamers now a days aren't use too ... "what you mean i can't just faceroll and succeed?!? omg WTF!"

and yes it does make the game harder and it makes people better. its funny how many times this happens to me. im in a group and one person doesn't know how to play at all ... the majority of the time their first MMO is WoW. where as if you're in a group and someone who knows his class and knows their role and executes their role their first MMO is EQ1 or some other game with a harsh DP.

I guess there isnt a single person that can read and comprehend on these boards.

EQ1 had a sissy death penalty compared to the games I played long ago. Corpse retrieval where all of your items remained on your corpse was not hard.. Having to go back and kill the same mobs that killed you just to get your equipment off of them is another story.

Like I said.. People that want a harsh penalty have never experience a harsh death penalty.

You are forgetting one important fact.. The 5000 " players " will not be on all at once.. Most people that want a harsh death penalty have never experienced such.. I used to play games where after dying you would lose stat points , skill levels , be looted by whatever killed you and if you were ate by a lair then you would be sent to the Underworld and your loot would drop wherever you died.

So you had to use a stat potion to regain stats , use your skills to regain your skill levels , return to where you died hoping that you wont have to clear an entire dungeon level to find your gear and to get out of the underworld you would have to do quests for your organs.

FE is a different type of mmo. Its mission based and actually has an endgame. Its more of a Hybrid than a true sandbox game.

Obviously a mission based skill capped game is going to need more dev created content than your FFA pvp focused sandbox.

Agree, they are different.

Very different.. FE has content the others do not.

Which would probably explain the negativity. Since mmorpg.com probably favours Darkfall, and most of the thread makers and posters too. Wouldnt be surpriced if mmorpg.com got money from Aventurine that made Darkfall also.

funny cuz AV is not american get over it

No one knows where they are from! They hop countries every other week to escape the bill collectors! :)

Seriously though.. MO went from a " maybe " purchase down the line to " This company needs to die " after seeing this... Turbine , SV , AV and Funcom are on that list too.

Who said that?

If they fail because they did something wrong, it is their fault because that is how capitalism works.  Sick of hearing people blame the customers on the failures of Starvault.

You obviously misunderstood what I said.

Depends on the rest of the game

Lets assume the game is of decent quality.. Not a AAA type but not a stinker either.

It would pretty much work like a normal MMO.. You quest , you hunt , you craft and you find gear..ect.

Could one survive just by selling cosmetic items?

Build up the game with the idea of supporting a vast outfit and general fluff system.

There would be no pay to win items but different shirts , shoes , hates , pants , all sorts of outfits..

Cosmetic weapon and armor that would reskin them both.

Even have things like cute little pets and things like levitation and shapeshift potions ( doesnt effect gameplay ).

Basically just a huge fluff system.

Could a F2P survive with this kind of cash shop? Would you play a game like this? Would you buy outfits and such from the shop?

Looks like they are hoping people will blindly preorder the game with no proof of the games actual existence. Using the " We will limit how many people play " is just a tactic to drive up preorders as high as possible.

Dont like it. You either release or you dont. It honestly feels like the " limited players " is just another way of having an extended beta period after the release of the game.
