Lets pretend...

You can pretend anything you want :)

I come from facts and I can see 2 expansions per year and steady rise of subscriber base since release.

Its common sense actually.. How you fail to see my point is beyond me.

A linear storyline based game will not be more popular than the more open WoW.  What you have to do is make a game that is more open than WoW to beat WoW.  Like Darkfall for example.  You need innovation, not handcuffs.

What?!?!! WoW isn't all that open. It is heavily instanced...more so than most MMO's.

Not really.. Dungeons are but that is a necessary evil. I dont want to go through EQ all over again.

I think TOR will be a hit.. But I will have to wait and see. I am not much of a sci fi person and outside of the movies I have little interest in Star Wars. I think SWG showed that the vast majority of Star Wars fans could care less about gaming.

And I will also add that I have a feeling that D3 will surpass D2 in sales.. You cant really compare Titan Quest to it because it was from a small company and hardly any people ever heard of the game and Hellgate London was pure crap from the word go.. An Iso camera is about the only thing that can capture a hack and slash experience IMO.. It just feels awkward in a FPS type game.

I disagree.. EVE had time to become a decent game because there was no competition in the genre. Had there been any at all then the game probably would have never had more than 50,000 players if that. Games in the fantasy genre do not have 1 year or more to hammer out problems since people will leave to another game.
EVE got lucky.. But I have heard being lucky is better than being good but it played a large part of the game being a success.
MO will not have that luxury.

Nah. They got their subscribers through hard work - expansions.

There is no other game that evolved as massively as EVE. Not to mention the game yields concept of longevity, working on being different is not what you can call lucky.

You arent seeing a major thing.. They had TIME to do that.. Without it it doesnt turn out so well.

Lets pretend for a moment that when EVE first release there were 2 or 3 major players in that genre and many F2P options. Now imagine that one of them is releasing a sequel to a successful game. Another one is sitting on a somewhat successful game and the third just butchered itself. Now add in a few more games in this same genre that are in the pipeline ready for release very soon.

Adding all that up.. Do you think EVE would have done much of anything but a small " bloop " as it hit the water? ( it isnt much more than that right now ) No competition in the genre allowed the devs to bring EVE along slowly.

1) Eve is enjoyable (to me at least) because despite not being a themepark it has the themepark typical features that I enjoy the most. difficulty comes from your brain, not your hands. That's why it "got away with it"...not because its sci-fi and not fantasy.

When it comes to MMORPGs the last thing you want people to say about your game is that it has " potential ".. Thats pretty much the beginning of the end right there.

EVE got away with it because its a sci fi game in a very thin market.. The fantasy / sword , shield market is packed full of titles and it takes alot more than potential to get people to play.

So you enjoyed WoW for a long time, now you are tired of it. What is the big deal? Do something else.

This is exactly what I'm doing . Something else . Although I think along with a lot of other player that have given up , I would have liked to stay had it not taken the direction it had . I'm not really interested in a game thats emphasis has become about endgame raid content . There isn't a big deal as such but this is a forum where people talk about games so if they don't like something they very often say so here. Perhaps rather than being dismissive you'll offer some intelligent comments in future because all you've done here is show a lack of it .

I dont even consider WoW raid content as.. raid content anymore since you can have different sized parties do it. I am not sure if ICC can be done in 10 man groups .,. If not then it soon will be adjusted for such.

Btw, this topic got linked in MO forums, so I would expect a raid of fanbois incoming, defending their alpha and giving high ratings.

Doubtful. Most are somewhat grounded in reality. Just because we defend it or enjoy it does not mean we cannot see flaws. No one in their right mind can say the game is in good shape. If they launch in its current condition then me and many others will be on the titanic. However if they take what they learn from this open beta and apply it and make realistic promises and strides then it will be a great game for years to come. The next UO...no but MO yes.

Not from what I have seen.. You cant even post constructive criticism without a topic being overrun from idiotic replies which also overrun the few well thought out replies.

MO fanboys are just as bad as the DF fanboys.. Both of which are in serious denial.

I voted a 2..

I was interesting in the game but its in such a sad state right now that I dont even know why they wanted this in open beta..

Graphics are ok but thats about it.. Motion blur is way overdone and the video options dont seem to work even editing the INI is hit / miss ( 16x AF is about the only one that works besides resolution..for me anyway ). Player models are decent but nothing to brag about.

I wish there was a " Show Clothes " option so I wouldnt have to deal with the people who run around nude for no reason at all. I also dont like being slapped in the face with it on character creation. I really dont know why they decided to have nudity in the game unless they thought it would get them more sales. It isnt really needed IMO.

Animations are very poor.

NowGame.exe = SB.EXE.

Combat is really slow.

No Mobs to kill other than wildlife and at this stage of testing that it is a little sad.

Way way to many skills especially when it comes to harvesting / crafting. I dont really think you should have to dedicate one character that mines ore and another character to create armor with it. I liked the way UO had it.. Could Mine / Smith and still have points left over to defend yourself from players or monsters. If they keep the skill system the way it is then I would hope they have a shared bank so you could store the ore or whatever and use it on your crafter.

UI needs to be better. I dont particularly care for a hotbar not in first person view anyways. Seem like it would be more of a problem than anything. Only so much you can do with your left hand and using mouse mode wouldnt work since you cant turn left / right ( unless I missed something ).

Leaving WoW for WAR is like trading a Porsche for a Pinto.

Players shouldnt have this type of control in an MMO.. However it would be a good idea for a random server wide quest. A raid of baddies destroys a town , players go in and wipe out baddies , players gather resources to rebuild town. You would have more incentive to rebuild the town if its close to your hunting ground while others way on the other side would be interested because of the reward and/or faction gains.

Give to much control to players and its a disaster waiting to happen. You know that little twitch you go when that tornado destroyed your sim city city? Yea. That will be the outcome except its a bunch of moronic players doing it for the sake of being douches.

you didnt read the whole tread or you would have seen we spoke a lot about this and you got a wrong idea of what we propose

please read the whole tread if you got time ,its worth a look!

I read the whole thread and that is why I posted what I did.. The idea is stupid and leaves way to many windows open for abuse. Pretty simple.

If UO PVP was really that good more MMOS would implement it. Don't blame companies because they only make a product which public wants. The gamers on whole rejected UO style PVP so get over it. Gamers want to have fun and if they feel like it doing in griefing free zones then they are free to do so.

Wrong. Gamers adored UO's PvP.

Hobbyists who came into gaming with games like Guitar Hero, Rock Band, World of Warcraft and Halo 3 rejected the idea of anything that was a real challenge with real consequences.

Which gamers adored UO PvP? Is it the ones EA created Trammel for? Or the ones that almost caused the death of the game? Without Trammel UO would have died out long ago.

None of the games you listed even come close to UO and are very niche games. There is a reason why only handful of such games are being made. Most notice able are Darkfall, Eve Online and new Mortal Online.

Ignore him. LinkRealms ftw.

Mortal could shape up to be like UO once it's more feature complete, but who knows?

Judging by the open beta.. Not a chance.

Players shouldnt have this type of control in an MMO.. However it would be a good idea for a random server wide quest. It seems to me that " sandbox " games are labeled as such because the devs / whoever think its a free ticket of the game being void of content. That in turn makes the game really really really pathetic. A ' Sandbox '  game to me is a game that offers both worlds and choice.

I myself dont view UO any different than I view WoW.. I enjoyed crafting more with UO than I did with WoW but at the same time I enjoyed exploring in WoW more than I did in UO. I like the skills system that UO offered but IMO it did it wrong along with all the other games that copied it. Games like Kingdom of Drakkar and Legends of Kesmai did the skills system the right way.

I was hoping Arthas would somehow survive the battle which would lead to him destroying the scourge.. You know the whole good guy turns bad , bad guy turns good and saves the world from an evil. Arthas was just an awesome character.

When his eyes went back to normal his hair should have went back to being blonde.

Same shit happened to me. Some how someone got my account info and locked it with that lame authenticator. If Blizzards security is that freaking bad the hackers can keep the account and blizzard can shove that authenticator up their ass. Only good thing that did was lock me out.

The authenticator, I assume, is a way for a GM to "investigate" if u were at wrong or not and reevaluate your account. From what I've heard...that never happens...or if it happens, it will happen at a point where u could care less if u play again or not.

You assume wrong. The authenticator is pretty much a random password you assign to your account. It doesnt matter if you hand over username and password because they still wont know the authenticator #. Can probably play the game without the authenticator but they couldnt change any details or transfer characters without it. This is most likely why people log on and see equipment and\or characters missing.

Hackers wanting to make a name for themselves target the large companies and such and I am sure Blizzards deals with DDOS attack daily among other things. If their account servers were hacked then it would have been reported from someone. The fact that a few people out of million lose their accounts tells me it isnt a hacker but they signed up on some forum \ site that they shouldnt have using the same email and\or password they used for WoW.

Thats the only way people get emails about errors on their account and such.. I am sure I signed up somewhere that sold the emails to some gold selling website.. I know for a fact that people who run the non official servers do it and I wouldnt doubt if some of the large mod websites do it ( some people think that Curse seems to be in on it ).

Just stay away from everything is my advice.

Sorry for my recent rants...but I do agree with u for the most part...except that I feel it's much easier to hack someones email address when it's listed on Battle.net or whatever... than the personal name someone gives to thier account on Wow before the changes...

Sadly, my account wasn't worth selling off the toons I had...only sending spam. But thankfully, I didn't use the same password for my email address and other things either!

The good things that came out of it is, I didn't comprimise my email password as it was different and

I havent looked at Bnet in forever so I dont know if it exposes peoples email addresses or not ( dont remember if it did before either ) but it may make it easier for the phishers to form a mailing list. That could also mean a larger pool of not so informed people falling for the phishing emails.

It doesnt seem like there is any more or less accounts be compromised than there was in the past. It always seems like there is a number of people at the same time and then a lull.

Its also hard to believe they go around hacking single email addresses when mass emailing phishing attempts is far more efficient and less time consuming.

Here is an example.. I just received an email saying that my password was recently changed. The link looks legit but mousing over shows the true website as wor1dofwarcraft.com. Many many many people fall for emails like this and then go on a rant saying they were hacked when in reality they handed over everything on a silver platter.

The chances of being " hacked " are so close to nil that its way way down on the list of how people lose accounts.

Other - Vanguard.

They are having some tech issues. It's not their fault there using windows vista. So subscribe to eq2 and get them windows 7!

Windows 7 is Windows Vista.. It just streamlined for the n00bs. Thats why driver support for Win7 was great.. Its using Vista drivers unlike Vista that had to make drivers from scratch + 3rd party companies sat on their hands.

On topic.. Whats this going to be about? The new expansion?

Have a feeling Shader 3.0 is going to be a disaster for them.. Their engine uses the CPU for pretty much everything and now they are trying to put shader 3.0 in the game.. Would be an easy addon had they had any brains years ago. Now they pretty much have to redo tons of stuff.

Anyways teh game is boring and they can only keep people playing by pumping out an expac every 3/4 months.

Not sure how you can say you love fantasy but dislike the races that come with it.. Without the races the game isnt a fantasy game but a medieval one.
