Well be careful of what you wish for.  Manual aiming systems are often very open to exploits, speed hacks, aimbots etc.  They also have a tendency to affect the ranged players more than the melee players.  Just have to wait to see how they implement it.

Aimbot will be completely uneffective in this game, its not an fps with guns; fireballs and arrows have traveling times. if you don't aim in advance then you will fail. As for melee, I guess it's easy to aim in the right direction now, isn't it?

My question is.. Have you ever used an aimbot before? I can tell you right now that aimbots will not be useless in this game. They can easily be set to allow for any sort of leading distance required based on whatever ability is being used. Anyone that played Magestorm , Spellbinder , Splatterball..ect. can attest to aimbots still being a massive headache ( FYI those games projectiles also had a travelling times ).

Not like it matters.. This game is going to consist of AE Group grindfests anyway.

I guess that makes 2 of us.. They banked on the name when it came to LoTRO.

The biggest flaw with this game are the missions ( outside tokens - there is a reason arcades died in the US ) .. They are just way way to short. Grinding 8 minute missions isnt something I want to do.. These action online rpgs ( not an MMO sorry ) need missions that can last up to an hour and the ability for players to join ( or drop out ) in the game at any point. Add that to the token system and you can see why the missions are so short.

I rememer playing PSO where I could start up a game and begin to play by myself and before I got to the Forest Dragon the game would be full. Even if people dropped out of the game someone else could come in and continue through the Caves , Mines and Ruins.. This was 10 years ago and here we are now with Vindictus a game that is full of ridiculously short missions where a party has to be had before even launching the game ( if you want to play with other players ). Not just PSO either..

Going from the Forest all the way down to the Ruins would take hours.. A game that costed me 50$ with the ability to do play as much or as little as I wanted. To get the same amount of play time with Vindictus compared to a single play through of PSO I would have to pay for Plat Tokens which would eventually end up dwarfing the 50$ I put on PSO.

It's simple: DCG = CME renamed.

Common tactic, sell the assets to a "new" company ( formed from members of the "old" company, most likely using friends/relatives on the "new" company's owner sheet to avoid anyone figuring it out quickly) to avoid losing them in the bankruptcy.

Probably took notes from Aventurine / Razorwax..

I think GW2 will probably be popular.. AFAIK its going to be free to play online after buying the game and that is always popular especially with a full MMO and not a hub based game like GW1.

It's no surprise that a cash shop system was put into play here. Given the success of the game, it's easy to see why.

That being said, there are other ways to obtain tokens in the game without paying for them, yes?

~Miles "Tails" Prower out! Catch me if you can!

There is but its not efficient at all.. 40 Seals = 10 Tokens. If you do missions that cost 2 Tokens than thats 5 missions or ~30 minutes of play time. Not really a viable option. You can also do surveys but seriously.. Who does that? Most likely pick up adware from toolbars and such.

I also dont see how the game is a success at this point.. Right now you can play all you want pretty much. Not sure if that will change in OB or not.

And yes I have played the game a good bit.. Like I said in my first post the game is fun but at the same time shallow and really not worth what they are asking for a fair amount of play time.

Tokens will refresh on Mondays and Fridays.. So if you just use those you will get hardly any play time at all unless you consider sitting around doing nothing as playing.

I also do not beleive this game is targeted at the " casual " crowd either. Thats just an excuse to give just a few hours of play time free per week and almost force people into buying Plat Tokens ( whether people end up doing it or not is up to them ) to play a game they like for more than a handle full of minutes a day.

Dungeon Fighter Online has a fatigue system also, although it doesn't sell Fatigue Points or anything to recover them, you have to wait until the following day for your Fatigue to Regenerate. Works very well, game is doing great population-wise. The "Casual-friendly" thing is not an excuse it's a fact. The grind in Vindictus is ridiculous, in 7 days (not consecutive), I reached the level cap (currently 26 as of ESOB, will be 38 at OB) and never actually used all my Silver Tokens. I played casually, and I've also acquired many crafted items and sets (Crimson Rage, Wind, working on Kobold right now). With Meditation slowly increasing my AP Points while I'm offline, I get more AP to burn in skills too. It's VERY casual-friendly. If players really want to be Hardcore, they'll have to put money into Platinum Tokens, and perhaps alternate between Silver and Platinum to avoid any major increase in Silver Token cost, but I don't even see Casuals ever needing to put any money into Vindictus, yet still be able to reach level cap in a decent time frame.

-------------- (Following post)

I edited the post. What I meant was the cost was nothing right now.

But there is a cost. Missions do cost Tokens, even now during Early Start Open Beta (and even during Closed Beta). The only exception is the Perilous Ruins region, which is the beginner area where players can run as long as they want without spending a single token. But any missions beyond Perilous Ruins (and that also currently applies to Early Start) cost Tokens. You have not played beyond the Perilous Ruins area obviously....

Red.

No.. The first misunderstanding was my fault as I worded the post wrong.

This one however is your fault because you did not understand the context. I didnt mean there is NO COST.. I meant that in the context of things during the beta that the cost was NOTHING. Not Zero but that the cost doesnt matter atm.

Get it now?

Sheesh fanboys should learn to read.. Literally.

This is Nexon we're talking about. They are quite efficient on milking players cash. My only fear is that some dungeons will be premium only.

From my understanding, that will not be the case. None of Nexon's games sell Content anymore (It used to be the case with Mabinogi back in 2008, but was changed in early 2009 where the game gave full access for free, and all of their MMOs have followed the same path since then).

Vindictus Cash Shop will mostly contain Avatar Items, Platinum Coins, Item to revive yourself in Dungeon (works like Platinum coin, you buy a certain amount and can use them until you run out), possibly Potions that offers temporary bonuses to Stats, more Storage Slots, Dyes (I'm not quite sure wether this will be Cash Item or not), possibly an item that let's you reskill your points (not sure either about this one).

This is just speculation but possibly Personal Shops, and players might be allowed to sell their Cash Shop items to other players through in-game currency (Avatars, Dyes, potions) like it is the case with DFO and Mabinogi.

But no content will be blocked away from F2P players.

Maybe, but after getting pass beginner dungeon, i saw platinum coin slot when you're paying for the boat ride. Not sure what this means though. Still sceptical about the whole thing.

Right now all we know is that the Plat Coins will be used to run missions once the Silver Coins are gone.. and 50 wont last that long even at a " casual " pace. If you are super casual then they probably would last or if you spend the majority of your time sitting around watching Fionas boobs jiggle.

I am not knocking the game by saying its terrible but I do hope they do not use such a bad cash shop idea. It could ruin the game.

I would be more in favor of them keeping the F2P setup with coins refreshing on M / F but also offer a premium plan at 9.95/month  that makes the tokens refresh every day + access to dyes + higher drop rates for mats...ect. If not then I really do believe this potential setup could be disastrous.

You are pretty much paying by the hour if you chose to buy tokens. No different than an arcade but much more expensive.

This game could be more than a f2p game.. I mean it could follow GW / Diablo and just sell the game with free online play. Would get all sorts of attention and many many players. Might not make as much money but would be better in the end IMO.

No Cost? The only missions that does not cost any Tokens are missions located in Perilous Ruins, which is the "Beginner" Area. Any area beyond Perilous Ruins (Hoarfrost, and any future area) cost 2 Tokens (3 after you've ran 7 missions I believe, 4 after 14 or 15 missions).

I edited the post. What I meant was the cost was nothing right now.

The pricing system for this game.. Some are estimating tha its going to be 30 cents PER Plat missions token. The 50 silver you start with will not last long for the normal player especially considering how short the missions are. This game might be dead before its even out of the gate. I am sure people looking for Diablo fix will try this game while waiting on the real thing but they should look somewhere else.

Its a fun game even though its shallow on content and probably always will be and the item / craft system is worse than PSU. If they go ahead with this system it could be a huge mistake ( I think it will be a mistake ). This game could be much more than just another f2p game.

I personaly stay away from sandbox games that have PvP as its main feature. I am more of a pve / crafter person but if given a CHOICE I will take part in PvP. The more recent sandbox game fail to take choice seriously and think all sandbox games are about killing another player just because they can.

Currently playing Craft of Gods which is more or less a sandbox game with PvP as an option BUT the exp per mob skill is terrible and it seems like I am the only person in the game at times.

Is there actually a large enough market for this genre? CCP is doing the right thing by staying out of the traditional genre but I dont know about this one. I am sure people will play it but how many remains to be seen. They got lucky with Eve..

First come first serve..

Enjoy!

Looks like the other thread disappeared.

I would like a Key to please.

I have only played the game for about a week so I have only seen what the first several levels has to offer. I also played on the Good side.

Graphics

I think the game has very nice graphics.. They arent super duper terrific but the lighting , shadows and water are all very good which makes the game look nice even without high poly count or high res textures.

The character models are average but acceptable. For the most part the mob models and such all look good to me. ( That Earth creature in the tutorial was pretty sweet looking )

Armor and Weapon models are also average so far.

Animations

Below average to Average.. Not great but not terrible. The player attack animations seem to be erratic with no real fluidity to them. They look ok but weird at the same time.

Some crits have missing attack animations.

At least this game has an animation for Bow strings.. Most do not.

Sound

Music is good but is much louder than other game sounds.

The combat sound effects are much to low and lack the impact of a battle.

No sound for footsteps , harvesting or crafting. Also no sound for critical hits , blocking..ect.

Crafting

I dont know what to say about crafting.. Nodes are static and there arent many of them and you are limited to 4 of 6 on the f2p server ( Jewel Crafting and something else arent on the f2p ).. This entire area feels like its incomplete.

Gameplay

Plenty of quests to do right off the bat but the quest dialogue seems to suffer from bad translations. Often times you wont even get a clue as to where to look for something even on something as simple as a delievery quest where they wont even tell you what village the person is at. But there is a button in the quest log that will mark the place on your map ( sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt ) .Ran into 2 broken quests ( Good side ) both of which were escort quests where the pereson I need to escort would not move. The first area has quests all the way up to level 20.

Grinding mobs really isnt an option for exp gain because they give practically nothing.. Its quest , quest , quest which doesnt sit well with me for a sandbox game. I dont mind quests but killing mobs should be a viable optioon too.

I really like the combat and its my prefered style because I liked to get to watch my character fight instead of having to focus on the hotbar constantly.  Its kinda slow paced but it seems to fit the game really well.

The skill and ability system is terrific. My character had a DoT from the Necro Tree , Fear from the Necro Tree , A melee Stun from the Healer Tree and HP Buff from the Healer Tree .. Mix and match anything you want. Really Great. And they all improve every time you gain stat points. The abilities list which stats they use so you know how to set up a build more easily.

However with so many abilities some of them are bound to be useless. Like the HP Buff from the Healer Tree ( level 6 ability ).. It increases your groups health by 40 for 15 seconds.. Worthless. Even at higher levels I dont see this ability being useful.

Housing

It seems that there is a housing sytem in place but I know nothing about it.. Just that there is a merchant that sells decorations.

PvP

Never was able to do PvP due to the lack of player base. It is a 2 faction system and there is a tower system in place so there are areas to fight over it seems.

Item Shop for F2P

The game uses a currency called Kun which you buy with real cash ( of course ) and get to use in game to buy items.. every kind of item - Armor , Weapons , Potions ( which are Kun only on f2p ) .. Everything. While there is no restriction on what areas are available to f2p players ( 1 Epic dungeon perhaps which you pay for ) .. the selling of equipment is just a huge no no IMO and most likely will keep this game from taking off. Even BAGSPACE requires real money. UUGH!

All in All

Its a good game with potential but the lack of population and the selling of equipment will keep this game in the cellar.

Gameplay wise I think it is better than DF / MO and plenty other games out there.

6.5 out of 10

This game is going to need a diablo-esque item system for it to be long lasting I think. At the very least something like Phantasy Star Online ( not Universe ).

It doesnt matter what Epic does.. SV still has no idea how to work the engine to get it to do what they want it to do. Thats why the game has always been in bad shape. It isnt like the engine is so complicated that only the best / most skilled devs can use it. If SV knew what they were doing they wouldnt have to wait on Epic to put out another build.

Graphics is horrible. I am talking about art design here. Animation, environmental design, character, mob .. none looks very good. WOW has MUCH better animation & art design.....

I stopped reading right there.

Why? Dont like reading facts? WoW does indeed have better ART than EQ2 because Sony chose to go 100% the realistc route which explains the lack of good graphic design / bad models / plastic looking lands , rocks..ect.. I think EQ2 would have faired better graphically had Sony not made the huge mistake of the engine being CPU heavy.

And there is no contest as far as animations are concerned.. WoW easily. EQ2 is very stiff and clunky to me.

Do I think EQ2 graphics are nice? Not really. In some cases they look ok but for the most part I find them ugly and a total failure of a " realistic " view point. I can deal with lesser / ugly graphics if thought and care goes into the world design. I feel none of that with EQ2.

Do I think WoW graphics are nice? For the most part I do. I can deal with low res textures when the world and art design are as good as they are in WoW.

And yes I can run EQ2 maxxed out and get 30+ FPS in normal gameplay.

I think Eve is a good example. It had 300k subs for the longest time without very really losing that much people over the years.  I think a bad example would be AOC and Warhammer where they had close to a million and within a year they bottomed out to almost 100k or less.

EVE started with 20k subs and did not hit 300k until Apocrypha last year.. Its one of those rare success stories.

Having a genre all to themselves helped tremendously I think.. The traditiional market is a savage place to release a game in now a days but the sci fi market is still open for another good game.

There are couple things to account for like hype level , initial dev costs , how many people have to be paid every month..ect.

A small team with a low budget I would say 40 ,000 - 50,000 would be a success. Its enough to keep everyone paid and maybe hire another dev or 2 with enough to sit on incase you need it or enough to start on significant add ons.

If its a large project with a ton of hype then no less than 300,000 IMO. A project like that could make it by on less but when its clear they were swinging for the fences it just doesnt seem like much. WAR , LoTRO , EQ2 , AoC would fit that mold.

So unless a dev team conists of 5 or so people then they would need more than 10,000 , 20,000 or even 30,000. Just to many bills and people needing to be paid to get by in reality. I mean the Darkfall guys bragged at one point on having 20+ devs and last I check they were around 15-20k paid players. If those 20+ devs are real then they much be getting paid bread crumbs. ( In reality they most likely have less than 10 real devs )
