Except he left out a boatload of cons.

What about the extremely small and linear world? Its design rivals that of Warhammer. No reason or even desire to explore the lifeless world of Telera. Atleast with EQ2 , LoTRO and WoW there is a large world to explore and things to see. There is none of that in Rift.

Or how about the terrible performance of the game? Myself and many others were stuck at 15-20fps no matter the settings used even on beastly rigs.

Its Warhammer all over again.

The only thing I took away from the game ( outside of knowing not to buy it ) is that the particle effects are pretty good.

Two Worlds 1 was pretty bad ( Two Worlds 2 is better but not by much ).

That Wolfenstein Online game that was released some years ago. Really disliked that game.

Gothic 1 and 2 were pretty bad I thought. G3 was a little better but still bad. Arcania is better but its more of an action oriented game and the combat actually works unlike the previous games.

Baldurs Gate.. Not that the games were bad but I just couldnt get into it at all.

Any Tiger Woods game.

Warhammer Online.

Beyond Divinity.

Divine Souls.. Very clunky.

Just to many to list.

Sadly.. Rfit suffers from the same design flaws as Warhammer.

There is still time though but not alot.

If there is going to be a harsh death penalty .. Then mobs needs to be able to loot player corpses if no other combatant is around.

GW2 only if I do play anything. At this point in time no monthly fee is a little more appealing than features.

I think all kill X number / gathering quests should be gotten from mission boards where regular townsfolk would post jobs to be done.

Quests from NPCs should be the meaningful ones.

I like this idea to an extent, but then again where are you more likely to get a quest to go pick a dozen roses (example) from a guy who needs them for his girlfriend? Or is he more likely to post up a message on a local message board saying "Hey can someone pick some roses for my girlfriend? It's a surprise? I'll give you like 10 silver for it".

Not sure if you have ever seen the anime ' Fariy Tale ' ( dang good show ) but the idea is from that.. Say each player can join a NPC guild of sorts ( Mage , Warrior , Paladin , Thief..ect ) and each of these guilds would have job boards that contain any sort of job a player could do ( Player guilds could purchase these boards for use inside guild houses for ease of access ) ranging from plain delievery quest to gathering to exterminating to escorts..ect. When completed you just return to the NPC Guildmaster to get the reward which could be Coin , Item or both. Course there would be group missions available also.

Each NPC Guild board would have unique quests based on what guild it is ( to go with the normal jobs posted ).. So each one would get their own thing. Adds a little bit of replayability.

That way NPCs could be free to have long chain quests dedicated to story.

The game just went F2P and plenty of ppl are checking it out. Give them some time to get to level cap. It's true that plenty of new players are coming in, but it's also true that lots of vets had already left the game before the F2P thing.

Just? 2 1/2 months ago (in NA).

While it's certainly doing better than it was, it's pretty much like it was a year after launch (during the free trial phase).

You get a lot of people up to the 20s or so, then they sort of sputter out. Where I am now (I re-rolled when it went F2P) in the 40s, it's pretty thin.

The core issue with the game is a lack of content. They have not addressed it, nor do they seem to have any idea to address it.

They seem to realize it exists, they added the lame "Tasks" feature. But like past methods, their idea of making content is simply to make people grind against mobs over and over again. They tried it with Deeds, Reputation, LIs. Now they think making people grind is going to work with Tasks?

For crying out loud Turbine, make new quests and raids (and more skirmishes. Those are sort of fun, until you do the same ones over 100 times, because there haven't been any new ones in a year or more). Lots of quests. Fun raids. It's not that hard to do, it just takes some effort. Effort Turbine seems unwilling to invest into the game.

I had though perhaps they just didn't have the resources. I mean, Turbine was mostly a failure as a company, with AC1 being old, AC2 flopping, D&DO flopping, and LOTRO fizzling out after a strong start. But now they are owned by WB, resources shouldn't be a problem. But maybe that made it worse? They don't seem to be investing the F2P money back into the game, I guess WB and the Paizs are pocketing it, isntead of using it to hire people to actually make content.

Logic fail. Tell me, how does AC1 "being old" qualify Turbine to fall into the "failing company" category. Asheron's Call was huge back in the day, and the fact it is still going tells me that there must be some sort of demand for it. Have you played AC1? AC2? I'd like to know. Perhaps you should erase this post and try again. This time use some truth rather than fiction. Or at least if you choose fiction, don't try to pass it off as truth to those of us who know better.

insanex

Maybe because there arent many people playing AC1 anymore? Not much income from that game to support a large company. Even though AC1 was a success way back when it was still behind UO , EQ and DAoC as far as playerbase.

AC2 was a failure due to many reasons.. The big one being that it was an unfinished game.. Couldnt even walk into buildings for crying outloud because all doors were shut. Chat system was broken too. The game left a bad taste in peoples mouths because Turbine release an expansion and then shut down the game soon after.

DDO was a clear failure before going f2p and even now it doesnt make much money. I find it amusing Turbine throws around percentages when talking about DDO because the game had such a small player base they couldnt have been making hardly anything from the game. I saw them throw around something like 500% (5x) increase or whatever but that really isnt that much when the game was such a huge failure in the first place.

After the age of AC1 causing a decline in players and the failures of AC2 and DDO Turbine was in a good bit a trouble.

TranceJs logic was perfectly valid and correct. They are also correct in that Turbine has been taking the cheap way ( VERY cheap way ) out regarding additional content for awhile now and it doesnt seem to be stopping. Even Mirkwood was a poor excuse of an expansion.

I will also agree that the mid level game and up is not much different than it was prior to going F2P. That tells me that while many people are trying the game not many are sticking with it. I am still not seeing many people in Moria and beyond or in the Lone Lands .. North Downs seems about the same as before.

I figured this bird was only scripted to fly around.

I dont care for user define content that would change the world for everyone.. What happens if 2 groups are questing in different parts of the world. Group A has a quest that ends up destroying Group Bs quest area.. Group A finishes their quests causing Group B not not be able to finish what they are doing.

No thanks.

@Quintillian:    I mostly agree with your point.  MO (and Darkfall and EVE) have shown that a significant portion of the MMO playerbase are looking for something very different from the more theme park style of most mmos.

What do you consider this [object Window]significant portion of the MMO playerbase[object Window] that MO has shown are looking for something very different?  I agree EVE has done so.. Darkfall I would really doubt has had much impact playerwise... but MO?  Do you really think that the MO playerbase is a significant portion of the MMO playerbase?   This isn[object Window]t a knock on anything or anyone but given the population numbers and the shortfall in subscribers openly admited to by the CEO... I think it[object Window]s a stretch to say that MO has had any impact at all on the overall MMO playerbase.   I don[object Window]t think you can draw any conclusions at all about the general MMO population from what is seen in MO...

I think DF overr time will make a bigger impact than what folks are going to give it credit for.  The devs do get it and I think DF2010 will give us a real viable game in DF that should entice more into playing who might have been scared off before.  MO though is still way to early to say.  I wish they would sell the game to a better development company to take what is there and make it great but in the hands of this team I just cannot see a bright and shining future because they do not get it.

DF is as big as its ever going to get. Most people do not like full loot or forced PvP.

Wait on Continent of the 9 or Blade & Soul I guess.

I cant think of anything.

I expect GW2 to be released around June 2011.. NCSoft cant sit on both of these titles for another year while posting loses every Q. They will be pressured to release one of the titles and it will be GW2 because it will offer a bigger payday than B&S.

I have spoken. All depart.

It is funny how many of the classes that have been listed here would make my favorite class lists.  However, in looking back at the various games I have played over the years - with so many classes that may have been meh and to pick out a single one, I would have to go with:  DDO Wizard.

When did you play. That is the question. Beta and post bet for two years they were forrible to play even at higher levels. I totally agree with your pain if thats what your basing it on.

I have to tell you they've made it easier to be a caster. Infact they finally fixed Palemaster so you can heal with death aura and they added Archmage Pre. If you haven't played in the last 5 months give it another go.

Worst class I ever played was a thief on Legends of Kesmai.

Worst "class-ish" thing to start as was magery on UO. Regs suck. :P

The Thief was awesome! In the original game anyway.. Not so much in the remake.

Mine would be DAoC Paladin.. Twisting Chants was a painful experience ( literally ) - Early WoW Paladin.. Combat based off of chance just wasnt a good idea especially considering the beta Paladin was probably the best setup I had ever seen for the class in any game - Captain in LoTRO.. This is mainly because of the combat system in the game.. Instead of abilites firing when you use them there is a delay and sometimes a delay until after the next autoattack.. Terrible combat system in that game.

I don't know it is still hard for me to phathom the thought of Blizzard making something new from scratch. They have been copy/pasting everyone else's work for ages now. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Your sir make the biggest ass out of yourself on these forums blizzard copied what?! Tthe same thing that mmos before it copied off others before it and others before it and each time the other made it better.

You always have something negative to say about blizzard plz tell me what mmo you play and I can show your something they copied from another mmo.

Get off blizzards nuts stop hating your like the loser kid that hated on the jocks caus they got the chicks and u didnt.

Starcraft and Warcraft are a copy of the Warhammer license which is owned by Games Workshop. This has been proven time and time again. Before you go ranting about people hating Blizzard perhaps you should learn something before posting.

And I am sure GWS are kicking themselves furiously for not sticking with Blizzard.

27000 is probably the number of units sold..

Funny you say that.. They were sued for using stolen L3 source code which they bought from somewhere.

Oh well.. Another asian built game that is going to fail miserably in the US / EU.

Well be careful of what you wish for.  Manual aiming systems are often very open to exploits, speed hacks, aimbots etc.  They also have a tendency to affect the ranged players more than the melee players.  Just have to wait to see how they implement it.

Aimbot will be completely uneffective in this game, its not an fps with guns; fireballs and arrows have traveling times. if you don't aim in advance then you will fail. As for melee, I guess it's easy to aim in the right direction now, isn't it?

My question is.. Have you ever used an aimbot before? I can tell you right now that aimbots will not be useless in this game. They can easily be set to allow for any sort of leading distance required based on whatever ability is being used. Anyone that played Magestorm , Spellbinder , Splatterball..ect. can attest to aimbots still being a massive headache ( FYI those games projectiles also had a travelling times ).

Not like it matters.. This game is going to consist of AE Group grindfests anyway.

I'll probably be flamed for this...but my vote goes to Turbine.

I guess that makes 2 of us.. They banked on the name when it came to LoTRO.

The biggest flaw with this game are the missions ( outside tokens - there is a reason arcades died in the US ) .. They are just way way to short. Grinding 8 minute missions isnt something I want to do.. These action online rpgs ( not an MMO sorry ) need missions that can last up to an hour and the ability for players to join ( or drop out ) in the game at any point. Add that to the token system and you can see why the missions are so short.

I rememer playing PSO where I could start up a game and begin to play by myself and before I got to the Forest Dragon the game would be full. Even if people dropped out of the game someone else could come in and continue through the Caves , Mines and Ruins.. This was 10 years ago and here we are now with Vindictus a game that is full of ridiculously short missions where a party has to be had before even launching the game ( if you want to play with other players ). Not just PSO either..

Going from the Forest all the way down to the Ruins would take hours.. A game that costed me 50$ with the ability to do play as much or as little as I wanted. To get the same amount of play time with Vindictus compared to a single play through of PSO I would have to pay for Plat Tokens which would eventually end up dwarfing the 50$ I put on PSO.
