Wonder if this has anything to do with Lord of Ultima...

Does anyone remember Fates of Twinion?  Could have sworn it was made by Sierra and part of one of the 500 different names they used for thier online services over the years.  The game was sold along with Shadow of Yserbius, which was an offline single-player prequel.

I didn't play long, but it was my first experience with online graphical RPGs.

As for the original Neverwinter Nights on AOL, there was no seperate charge to play the game.  It was simply $3.50 an hour for the AOL connection.  Gotta love that $1000 VISA charge one month.  They later reduced the charge to $2.95 an hour and finally went flat rate, which pretty much killed the service.  Thats when AOL users became the legion of ubernoobs everyone with a "real" ISP made fun of.  A big corporate shift happened about that time and for whatever reason they obliterated thier old games along with hundreds of content providers (Bethesda used to have an awesome support channel) when they decided to start charging companies to have a presence.  I don't know if Gemstone III even bothered to stay behind or not.

Drev

That was probably around the time EA bought out several games and removed them from AOL and Gamsestorm ( they also bought Gamestorm ). I know Gamestorm didnt last long after that happened.. Went from 50,000 + concurrent users to ~10,000 during prime hours.

It is intriguing that other financial documents of Star Vault have not received similar interest. For example, the latest financial statement from Star Vault for the fiscal year 2009 shows that open beta has had a total of 83,000 testers, which I find quite a bit to be honest. Not to mention that they managed to sell 11,000 copies of the game before the open beta. It will be interesting to see how many of these 70,000+ open beta testers who have not bought their copy will actually buy one once the game is launched. If their forums is of any indication, roughly 30-40% of everyone visiting there would subscribe the game which would, by all means be more than a resounding success story. Something that I personally find hard to believe, but you never know ;)

HAHA  Thats laughable!!!   "If their forums is of any indication, roughly 30-40% of everyone visiting there would subscribe the game which would, by all means be more than a resounding success story. "

If the sold another 25000+ copies they wouldnt be crying about being broke!

There's no argument or debate.

Here's the most relevent poll

Will you purchase this game on March release?
Definately Yes                    11.29%
Definately No                      28.90%
Maybe                                   16.26%
I already puchased it         43.55%
http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/38109-will-you-buy-game-march-take-2-a.html

I would say less than 20% of the people who played the open beta even vistied the forums .

Less than 20% during the open beta?  I don't know if I'd say it would be anywhere near that number, open beta is going to generally be full of those who seek that particular game out.  Now if you said during release less than 20% of the people playing visited open forums I could see that.  I'm an avid mmo player played tons of em but I have never recieved anything about MO because I've never sought them out.

Yes.

Not everyone is interested in testing a game or reporting any bugs they find. The majority are there because its free and they could care less about what happens on the forums.

Second. Scenarios.

The game was supposed to be ultimate RVR experience. Yet they added instanced scenarios that yielded much more experience than anything else in the game. Than they were suprised that scenarios was all anyone ever played, leaving the game desolated.

Simple fix. Either remove scenarios , or make the rewards much much smaller.

There are posts in Warhammer forums from Beta testers who claim that it was the opposite. That the scenarios were prominant and that RvR was always secondary.

I don't know if that's true or not. i do know that I found the scenarios a blast and had some of the most fun pvp that I've had in a longtime while playing them.

Before keeps RvR was going to be pretty much a large arena to run around in killing each other. They threw in keeps late to please the DAoC crowd ( which explains the seige pads ).

SCs are a good idea but they are to rewarding for  somethiinng  that was supposed to be ffor casuals. They buffed it up so much over time that the " hardcore " guys starting running premades for freenown from pick up groups.

I just got done playing the game again for 2 months.. I would still rate the game a 4.5.

You missed Kingdom of Drakkar. Started in 1992. Players connected via dial-in. Still running to this day.

KoD never gets its due.. EVER.

I still play the game on and off when I feel like paying out the nose.

The gameplay of Kingdom of Drakkar and Legends of Kesmai has yet to be beat IMO.

I have never finished a game that I didn't like. I agree with the poster above.

I will quote this one since the other one is getting huge.

I am different. Everyone is different. I always finish a game that I start. If I dont then thats 50$+ down the drain and if I finish it I get some value out of the purchase whether I like the game or not. I mentioned Lair before.. That was the worst game ever but I pushed through it ( the controls were terrible too ).

Someone believing doesnt matter to me.. I dont need it.

The reasons I dislike DA are valid and anyone disagreeing with them doesnt change that.

As for my thoughts on the expansion.. I thought it was very rushed.

WTF!!!!!!! how did you make a hot chick in Oblivion? I've tried for like.....a million hours, and she ends up looking like a dude.!?

MODs my friend..

I am wondering if Zenimax would use a different engine or use the one they own .. Whats the name? It was called NetImmerse years ago but then was renamed to something else that I cant remember right now. The engine for Oblivion is good for terrain and buildings and such but its pitiful for animation ( that or Bethesda is clueless when it comes to that ).

Gamebryo is the engine.

Yea thats it.

  \

you thought Origins was bad and boring but then bought the expansion?   I guess I do not understand the logic behind that.

I bought it expecting it would actually give more insight about what the characters moved on too... To make my original purchase and 75+ hours seem worth it.

75+ hours of gameplay of the original DA:O didnt make it feel like it was worth it on its own?

The expansion adds new characters and 20-25 hours of content for half the price of a regular new title.

If you needed the expansion to validate your original purchase then you obviously didnt enjoy the original game and shouldn't have even bothered buying the xpac in the first place.

That's my point, lol - glad to see that I am not the only one that sees it that way.

No it doesnt.

I have had DA since its release and I just now beat it 1 or 2 weeks ago with my main character. I am not the type to fly through a game and say " that was awesome " without putting any thought into what was going on ( looks like I am one of the few ). Me putting 75 hours into the game has nothing to do with its worth.. Spending all that time just to see my mage pick up a sword in a cutscene instead of frying the archdemon with a lightning bolt or a huge ice spear took what value the game had and chucked it out the window.

Not seeing the army I recruited in the final battle unless summoning them yourself in skirmishes was very weak.. The final battle wasnt even more memorable than the battle at Ostagar. The game consisting of one giant fedex quest didnt help its cause either and having to do things before any race would " honor " the ' contract ' was also stupid.

The only thing I take away from DA and its expansion is.. Duncan. He was a memorable character..

Dragon Age pales in comparison to Mass Effect 1/2 or even KOTOR 1.

Let me get this straight. You enjoy the 75 hours of gameplay you experience and due to a lack luster ending that makes the whole game bad? Due to a ending that entire enjoyable journey means squat?

That's wierd dude. I mean I love the Fable games but everyone knows the endings suck. I wouldn't let an ending change my mind when it comes to liking the journey.

You must have hated a whole mess of games dude because most endings are kinda mehh.

Did I say I enjoyed it? No I didnt. I played through the game over the course of months. I didnt sit down and play 75 hours in 2 weeks ( longer than that total because I wanted to see each starting story ). Just like Lair for PS3. I hated that game but I still finished it over a couple months time.

The ending was terrible. If this was some game from an indy company then I could understand the amateurish ending and the freaking TEXT ENDING. Not from a company that has near unlimited funds.

It was more than the ending if you cared to even read instead of skim.

Baaaahhhh Bahhhhh .. Get in line with the rest of the sheep.

So you played a game you didn't enjoy for 75+ hours? I call bullshit man. stop trolling.

Oh really? So you know everything right?

Go back and look at the release date for DA.. Now go look at a calender ( if you can read one that is ) and look at the date for ~2 weeks ago.. 75 hours is nothing in that time frame.

You can call BS all you want but it doesnt change the fact that DA consists of 1 large fedex quest where in the end the quests werent even needed because the sole purpose of building an army isnt EVEN NEEDED AT THE END OF THE GAME.

The game has no direction and thats why its a terrible game. Its just a bunch of quests and snoozefest conversations thrown together in pathetically small " zones " and inbetween loading screens that get longer and longer and longer.

No, I don't think so. Although Mourning was more of a deliberate scam. MO isn't a scam, it's just being ruined by incompetence. Like Alganon.

Yeah I dont think this game is a scam either, it is just such a big mess. Ridden with bugs, performance issues and major lack of content.

Some people I just dont realise how much work it takes to produce an MMOG so they bite of a bigger bite than they can chew.

I really dont think its the amount of work but rather them just diving right in with no plan and trying to to wing it.

Making an MMO is like getting into cold pool water.. Only idiots dive in head first.

Listening to anyone on MMORPG.com forums.. other than myself of course. :)

I think the graphics are just fine.. But I do wish some texture had a higher res. I may force AF to see if that helps.

I am having trouble doing the Zant Normal / hard instance.. Cant find a group for it.

The PRAN reminds me of the MAG in Phantasy Star Online..

About the only grind thats there is if you want to craft.. Everything drops off mobs and you need a ton of items to create a full suit + weapon.

lol.. You can do that anyway.. Just download the trial and you only have to pay the monthly fee.

Do some research before you bash next time.

This game was overhyped by gamers for one simple reason.. there is nudity in the game. And it aint done that well either. IMO if devs want nudity in the game ( its only there to sell copies honestly ) then do it in CG. Dont force us to watch a horrible looking pixel body that dances like Elains " lil kicks " from Seinfeld.

This game aint that bad for a f2p.. There are some things that need to be improved though.. The chat system needs to be redone - the WASD movements need to be better and less ice skaty - combat animations could be smoothed out a bit - combat abilities need to fire faster..ect.

I was also under the impression that when playing on the PvE server you couldnt be attacked if you did not click the PvP button. I was either wrong or some have found a way to bypass that ( saw a couple people attacking afkers at the Zan Temple ).

Allods has the quality but the cash shop is just way overpriced and pretty much forcing people to buy those " get out of jail " potions is just pure greed.
