If you're complaining about immersion, you may want to play on an RP realm. Just sayin'. |

Meh, you were well aware of the risk you were taking sending him your money. It's fairly obvious in game that there is no way to guaruntee a return/reply. To go crying to Anet afterwards is essentially going "I took a gamble and it didn't pay off, I want my money back!". |

GW2 needs one thing to make WvW as fun and as rewarding as DAoC's
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 7/28/12 11:32:31 AM
I think alot of people are underestimating how much motivation 7.5mill glory gear can offer.
Seriously, I've been chatting to quite a few of my PvP playing friends recently, and they are all psyched about the push for the top-end (purely cosmetic) gear. They're also really looking forward to the fact that they'll all be on a level playing field in PvP aswell - meaning the top end glory-gear really IS going to be a "time put in" or "player skill" thing. Cosmetic gear is a great motivator as long as it sufficiently differentiates you from everyone else. |

Although I love GW2 I don't think it will be as long-term successful as many are hoping simply because the lack of major progression will be a turn off point for alot of people. That being said, they could very well shift alot of copies right off the bat, and if the product/story is strong they could continue to shift expansion copies (for those who have completed the content and are not playing until more arrives). It will be extremely interesting to see how it all pans out.
Anyway slightly distracted, the one point you made I take issue with is the underlined one, I've played all 3 BWE's now with around 10 or 11 people from my guild and we spent almost all of them in WvW capping tower points and disrupting supply lines. Whilst most of the keeps will be zerg focused, it's extremely easy to disrupt and stop their rampage by simply cutting off the resource points. Perhaps more than most open-world (easiest comparison to WvW here) mmo's I've played, small groups are very strong in GW2 if they communicate and move well. |

SMITE: Hi Rez Responds to Hindus Upset with Deity Inclusion
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 6/27/12 8:20:36 PM
Whilst I'm not too concerned with people complaining about their religion being mocked etc. What I do take issue with is the fact that as far as I'm concerned Hi-rez are hypocritical on this issue - it's highly unlikely they'll include any overt Islamic or Christian imagery in SMITE for the reasons mentioned previously in this thread - if they do I'll happily admit I'm wrong. By all means use whatever Gods and religious figures you want, paint and portray them whatever way you like, just play it down when one religious group complains when it's highly likely you're avoiding some religions for fear of possible outbursts.
Also the guy writing the response doesn't really address the issues, he just glosses over the entire thing, so all the God's in the game could possibly be considered Hindu (a questionable notion at best) that doesn't really answer their points about images of still-worshipped deities being used in a way that is clearly for monetary gain (i.e. a video game). As I said before, I'm not personally taking issue with the "depicting religious figures" thing, I'm all for people creating whatever the hell they want - free speech and all that - but it just seems like Hi-rez are: a) a little hypocritical b) dodging the actual complaint by responding in an incredibly vague manner. |

"When a player takes a character into PvP, they are granted access to all the necessary skills, items, etc. Characters are set to the maximum level, putting everyone on an even playing field. This makes player skill more important than time invested in a particular character. When you take your character back to the PvE environment, you return to the skills and gear you had there, but the game will save your last PvP setup. You'll also be able to store templates for builds. This way, you can try out new stuff in PvP but still easily return to your familiar builds."

True, didn't think of it like that, although it's actually a BETTER situation than other games when it comes to combating bots, since they'd basically have to get consistently lucky with the economy in order to profit. Would they not just go for selling the gold they've farmed in the first place? |

Does anybody actually KNOW that you can buy PvP supplies with gold yet? Has it been confirmed either way?
Anyway, something that alot of people are glossing over when banging on about bots, NOWHERE in that blog did it say you would be able to convert gems back to real money. Which means, at the most, bots would be able to farm cosmetic items for their account... it's unlikely Anet would make a system where people can convert gems back to money, since that would (as many have said) encourage botting and leave the game a little bit of a mess, since everyone and their dog will just be hoping to make some cash off it. So yes, you will be able to BUY in game gold, from other players, with gems that they can then use to buy cosmetic/cash shop items. But it DOESN'T say they will be able to convert those gems back to real world cash to actually make money from playing/botting. |

Something I don't get with everyone banging on about P2W.
This is a PVE based game, those who have bought gear will either run dungeons with you (if you let them) or they won't (because they have the gear already) why does this impact on YOUR gameplay at all? Is the fact that someone else already has some gear really going to stop you playing the game?
In WvW the chances are people will all be on an equal footing gear wise at max level anyway since, as everyone has said time and time again, gear is generally side-grades - you change appearance but stats won't go up so again, are you really going to say it's p2w when all that's happened is one guy has a particular piece of gear with a look that you want, but that gives no in game advantage to him?
As I said in my last massive post, if it's like GW1 you will be able to buy max-stat gear as soon as you hit level cap anyway, with just the gold you got from levelling, so why would the fact that some people will spend real money to get particular appearances effect you that much? |

Here is the way I see it based on what we know of the game so far:
- Gear is horizontal progression wise, all end game gear has the same (what I would presume moddable) stats but different appearances. - SOME end game gear is gained from dungeons and karma tokens (other sets might be able to be crafted/bought). - It's likely the cash shop will have things like character slots/bagspace/home server transfers.
Other thing's we haven't taken into account in game that you might be able to buy: 1. Crafting mats 2. WvW supplies 3. Mods for weapons and armor
So based on the stuff above what can we say about gems -> gold.
1. At the most (when it comes to gear) you will be able to buy crafted sets of armor and gear from the AH, but you will not be able to get the gear that people can get through karma and dungeon tokens. Does this make it a p2w scenario? In some aspects yes, because you can essentially buy max level gear. However, in GW2 (as in GW) max level gear is not hard to come by (based on what they've said so far), you could literally craft a set in GW AS SOON AS YOU HIT MAX LEVEL, and I don't see a reason they would change it in GW2. It's more likely that you will be able craft epic sets with particular appearances to sell on the AH, and the dungeon/karma sets will also have their own unique appearances. All in all meaning what you will be buying is a particular appearance, nothing more.
2. What about the rest of the options? Crafting mats essentially fall into a similar category as above, you could potentially BUY the mats that would allow you to craft a particular set of armor, but it's unlikely that set of armor will convey any advantages over the stuff you should be able to buy in fairly short order (with in game gold) anyway. WvW supplies I suspect will be directly tied to WvW and thus not on the AH (but I could be wrong here obviously) so that just leaves...
3. Mods - this is really the only feasible part of the game I could see becoming a P2W scenario, those of us that played GW know the sometimes high prices for things like runes / insignias and weapon mods. If ANET run a similar modification system for mods and runes in GW2 we could potentially see a lucrative gem market here - imagine if you could buy sup vigor runes in gw1 with real money for example... again however, this is pure speculation.
An interesting point: Those of you saying an AH based purely on appearances would be boring and would kill the economy, I think you're underestimating what "cool looking gear" will do to people, you only have to pop onto gw1 for two minutes to see the amount of people sitting around in costumes/tonics/random combined gear (all of which convey NO INGAME ADVANTAGE) to realise that. People will quite happily put forward their own money (and a helllll of alot of ingame currency) to look how they want to look, even if they get no extra stats for it.
So, are there problems with the system? Yes, the upgrades/sidegrades issue mentioned above, the potential for an economy based around gems rather than gold and people buying gems with real money could mean a vast inflation in AH prices in the game but they should all be easy to handle on Anets part. It's unlikely to be the buy-max-gear scenario people keep banging on about.
What you all need to remember is something the Dev's have said time and time again. GW2 is NOT a gear treadmill game, there is no "gear tier" system here, you don't run one dungeon to get enough stats to run the next. Instead gear is all about appearance, and am I bothered about people dictating their appearance with irl money? No, why should I be? It's their character, let them play how they want. |

A role-playing game is where you play the role of a character hence the name, hence why the first roleplaying games (paper and pen) had everything from Wildwest settings (Dogs in the vineyard), Surivival Horror (Cthulu) and of course fantasy (D+D) yet they all remained role playing games. Hell when it comes to computer gaming even things like GTA and Metal Gear Solid are roleplaying games to a certain extent. The genre is one of the few that has no "set" conventions, are things like Mass Effect, Fallout 3 etc. not roleplaying games? Why then is Aion and the flight lore any different than post-apocalyptic settings or alien wars? I'm sorry but that single sentance is one of the biggest loads of crap I've read on these forums recently. |

Are there ANY obvious downsides/bugs/faults with this game so far? You'd think with it at retail now and with the amount of people from the West playing it, there would have been some reports of bugs or mistakes in the game, but so far - nothing. Is it really that good, or is there alot being hidden? Content gaps? Empty areas? Anything? |

Just read a review that mentions the channel system akin to EQ 2 and AoC in that if an area gets too populated it will make a copy of itself and open it to players then joining, just wondering 2 things. 1: Does this mean each of the areas is fairly small? Am I gonna be hitting loading screens alot (in relation to say AoC where theyre everywhere or WoW where they're ... not.) I know it's been answered before, would just like a comparison.
2: How well is the channel system done? Am I gonna find myself on my own all the soding time because the client has decided 4 people is too many and opened a new area ala AoC or is it more similar to EQ2 where it feels populated and active but not ridiculously so?
Answers appreciated. |

I'll probably hit this server up, presuming I can get the game installed. Gives me a reason to get my uni essays done before then. |
