At long last I can play a midget with freakishly long legs, a proportionally tiny head, and a giant gut. I can now die in peace.

Given the current 75 votes and 54. 7% Elyos vs. 45.3% Asmodian, the 95% Wald confidence interval for the population proportion for Elyos is (0.447,0.646).  Since 0.5 is contained in this interval, there is insufficient evidence to conclude that the proportion of people playing one faction is greater than the other. However, there are issues with sampling bias given the way the poll was conducted.

I saw a post with a dev reply on the CO forums about this. He said basically that if you ordered from Gamestop or Bestbuy(I think... might have been Amazon)  then you get the headstart..... implying that other places do not get it.

I also pre-ordered from D2D. :( Then I noticed that gamestop has a digital download. I hate collecting CDs and boxes for games. I'd rather have somewhere I can download them in the future. I guess the good news is D2D and Steam don't remove your ability to download the game after a period of time like gamestop.

This debate really has no meaning. You're arguing semantics over a few catch phrases. Games are either generally fun or they're not.  If they're not, it's usually a combination of factors.  It has nothing to do with being a "sandbox" game or an "fps" game or whatever. You can create whatever contrived categories you want and try to force them on every game on the list, but that doesn't offer any real insight into why a particular game is bad or what can be done to improve the genre. If anything, it's probably this type of thinking that kills creativity in the genre.

It's funny that people hold up UO as the pinnicle of  mmo's. If memory serves, everyone in UO looked exactly the same (wearing a robe, riding the same horse, usually with polearm or katana). There were really only 3-4 viable combat builds for a character. Everyone had the same house. PvP occured in the same areas. It's ironic that the very things you complain about are an inherent part of the game everyone likes to idolize as the greatest "sandbox" game ever.

I agree with Bladin. The OP is nothing more than an obnoxious spin on the same stale "argument" that gets posted over and over again. Also, the idea that devs read threads like this and take anything they read to heart is laughable.  Let's hope that's true because if it's not, the game industry is in trouble.

I think that a preliminary trend can be established based on the small data set here.  At the time of this post Destruction has a lead over Order amoung self identified Independents, Conservatives, and Liberals.  This suggests that people who identify with those political factions are all more likely to identify with Anarchy and personal freedom (aka destruction) than they are to identify with Fascism and state control (aka order).  Thank you to everyone who participated.

It doesn't suggest anything like you say.....or really anything at all.

You're going to have an issue with confounding variables if you try to do any type of regression or correlation study.

Confounding variables only matter in causative studies, not in correlative statistical tests.  The most important thing here is that he probably won't have enough people for a statistically significant sample.

Even at low correlations (p=0), with only about 400 people (which is not uncommon here), you can get about a  0.1 error at the 0.05 level. Your sample doesn't have to be huge to make inferences. Political polls are usually a few thousand people and they draw inferences about populations of millions of people. The most important thing here is that the sampling method is bad, and the question will probably produce bias.

This is all assuming that the correlation is linear in nature.

Also most people don't distinguish between statistically correlated and causality. I assume by the title of the post that the intention is to draw conclusions of the causitive kind.

Given the average number of responses on the polls here, I doubt I'll receive a statistically relevant number of responses anyway.  I'm happy with this just being a informal "fun" poll without serious overtones, or extreme debate.  I do work with several mathmaticians, so I'm sure I can get them to do the number crunching if the sample size becomes a relevant percentage of players in WAR.  However, I'm just a former English Major, with a job in the US Government IT sector.  So don't expect too rigorous of a mathmatical and statistical sampling from me.

I hope this helps.

You don't need all that many responses to make inferences about the population if you draw from a random sample (although this one is not random). However, here your question probably has some bias since many people may see being destruction as negatively related to their chosen political party.  Also, any conclusions you reach from the data will be suspect because of the confounding.  For example, the population of storks in Europe is highly correlated (p-value<<<0.05) to the birth rate, but obviously storks don't deliver babies.

You're going to have an issue with confounding variables if you try to do any type of regression or correlation study.

This is possibly one of the nerdiest things I have ever read, and that's saying a lot.

I wonder if xfire double counts for people with multiple accounts (which is everyone that plays Eve).

These forums are complete garbage. The vast majority of posts here are people bashing games they have never played, or people that played for an hour then whine. Back in the day when this site started, it could be useful as a place to get information on games. That is definitely not the case now. You could have the greatest MMO ever created, and 99% of the posts would seemingly come from people who registered for the sole purpose of bashing that game.

As someone who has played almost every major mmo to hit the market since UO (and who has a level 80 char in AoC), I can safely say this is a great game.

There are bugs, and there are some things that need to be implemented, but as an MMO that has just started, it's certainly one of the best launches I've played. It has the potential to really be a long term competitor in the market.

The only real complaints I have are 1) In large groups characters tend to blink on and off your screen at close range  (hopefully will be fixed soon) and 2) I could do with less zoning, but it's not a game breaker. Most of the other stuff is minor or is already in the process of being fixed. They seem to release a new patch every few days.

I logged into the server the nanosecond that it was supposed to be up. Needless to say it didn't work. I spent all morning preparing hotpockets and putting in my catheter. This is an outrage! How can Funcom just decide to delay the opening 3 hours??? What do they expect me to do, go outside?? The world is going to end and it's all Funcom's fault. I hope they're happy because I'm not. That's offensive tackle #1. Twenty more and I'm going to record a demerit for Funcom. Thirty of those and I'm going to consider writing a nasty letter to Norway. I'm sorry if this is ranting but we can't let gaming companies get away with this!

50 dkp minus!

Play UO (on seige perilous preferably). It may not have cutting edge graphics but the gameplay is good, and the KR client isn't too bad now. There are some really good freeshards as well, but you didn't hear me say that.

I think this is the first negative post I've seen on these forums that isn't a flat out troll. I pretty much agree with everything you said. You ideas about logos and CPs are great. The game would definitely  be on another level if they  had implemented any of that. These are the real reasons not to like TR, as opposed to "the intro sux",  "I can't open my inventory with i", "TR is a WoW clone", etc.

A shame

You should also be careful about buying purple items that are less than level 50 unless they're cheap. Most of the items on the surplus are mission rewards.

My character just hit 20 and while I've had fun with the game so far, I'm finding that I've run out of steam to keep leveling and max out into Tier 4. The content just seems pretty repetitive, and I'm having a hard time leveling my Sapper.

So as I said before, I'm not trying to troll here. I'd like to hear suggestions from those who've hit 50 or at least in the 40s about what sort of things I can look forward to. Are there some awesome instances in the upper levels? Do the top tier skills completely change the game (I'm thinking of doing engineer or sapper)? Should I switch to a soldier specialty if I'm bored as a specialist?

Any help would be appreciated, as at this point I'm seriously considering deactivating my account and waiting for the devs to actually implement some things they've promised.

I have a level 50 medic as well as several level ~30s. The final tier changes the way the classes play a lot. It's like a whole new character in many cases. Engineers and demolitionists change dramatically from sappers (and both are good). The game definitely does not end at level 30. Also, soldiers are overrated I think, particularly at high levels. Level 50 specialists can do things many soliers wouldn't dream of trying in pve.

Instances: there are some good ones and some really bad incomplete ones. Some of it is definitely entertaining, but some people have a low tolerance for the ones that are broken. Also the types of enemies you fight are unchanged for the most part. If you can't stand the small variety in enemy models, this will not change. Zone themes and storylines do change however.

For me, a large part of the fun comes from being in a good clan that has events and actively participates in clan wars. Clan wars really add a new dimension to the game, especially if the clans you're fighting are cool. There are a lot of special event type battles you can organize as well. If I wasn't in a pvp clan, the game probably wouldn't be nearly as appealing. The only other thing to do at 50 now is farm for level 50 purple items or make alts. I highly recommend you join a good warring clan.

I never said fighting over control points doesn't get boring. It does. Fortunately now they have changed it so that the AFS actually will retake CPs occasionally on their own. Imagine how annoying it would be to have to retake a map from npcs on a larger scale every hour or so just so you could turn in missions or use the bank. There may be a way to have a pve conquest system that doesn't get old, but I don't think what you're describing is it.

As far as pvp, they actually have said specifically that clans will be able to "own, defend, and capture" their own bases. In addition, they have mentioned an entire pvp planet. The pvp in the game is great. It only needs a bit of balance in some areas and better systems to facilitate it other than clan wars. They would be crazy not to capitalize on the potential. Whatever they do, they need to do it fast before too many people hit level 50. I just  hope they don't opt for dkp style raiding.

For the guy complaining about specialists: sounds like you fired a leech gun once and stopped playing. Specialists are every bit as good if not better than soldiers.

If Bioware does produce this game, wouldn't that mean you'd be buying from EA?

2) That cast came out in October, and was based on a early beta release. so a lot of what he goes on about doesn't exist anymore..  That said for the apologists.

Can you or someone elaborate on this a little more. What exactly has changed since beta??

Is this a serious question? Or is this an attempt to troll? If it's a serious question, I believe you can look at historical patch notes on www.rgtr.com to see a complete list.
