Between the checklist the Devs gave and what the video showed... it was mostly flashy stuff and combat in emphasis. All the non-combat details weren't emphasized enough. Reminds me of the original WoW Trailer where it was all combat here and there.

After watching the video a few times, I realized this is good if you rig the coding to make sure it executes well on tape. I realized it took a long time for Aventurine to show anything because they were working on the details and bugs to make this video work... in an MMO situation where other people were interacting with this constantly, doing different things---- I have a very strong feeling this coding--- all that they've promised--- is going to break ALOT.

Its not going to release this year. They're going to have a massive amount of bugs on their hands.

EDIT: I just noticed my info. Wtf constitutes a Hardcore member?

I agree with everyone on EVE. Its just WAY too deep. Its not a bad thing either, you can get really involved in the inflation/deflation, quantities in stock, etc of various star systems.

I'll also bet Arthas won't be in the game at release cuz they will want to "balance" the final encounter more in a future patch.  Plus when they said they would not be reusing the Argent Dawn rep I sighed as apparently Blizzard believes Grinding equals Fun!  (btw, Blizzard no it doesn't)

At least I will say this for them, they realized that 26 months for the 1st expansion was WAY too long so they got their creative butts in gear quicker.

All agreed. I just wanted to add... its not so much that grinding is a problem, all MMOs have grinding. Its whether you have fun doing it.

Actually I am really looking forward to it.  I am only a part time WoW player but WOTLK is making me want to push a bit more.  New areas to fly over (when I eventually can fly), new forms for my druid, slighter better, crisper graphics (in my opinion anyway), new mounts, and tons of new areas to explore.  Plus a new class.

I don't raid so don't care about that.

Overall looks like a good expansion to me.

This is actually the problem with WotLK. You can't just go through WoW without raiding. I don't raid much either, I barely got up to that one huge cyclops monsters raid in Burning Crusade aside from Karazhan.

Aside from the scenery, you will miss out on a good chunk of story and content by not raiding. Considering the devotion of the fans, they want to engage players through a team-work scenario--- WoW isn't setup properly for great PvP, so they balance it out on their PvE end with Raids.

Explore, you say? Northrend has been noted to be a fraction smaller than Outlands (which doesn't make sense to me, considering they did the Draenei/BElf areas AND Outlands in one shot). If you pace yourself, you'll run out of exploration in 4 months if you play at least 8 hours a week.

I'm playing Bloodymare:Requiem in the meantime. It has to be the grittiest MMO next to the carnage of WAR. Or at least, the sort of grit I like.

Warhammer's trailer was too glorified, imo. In reality, outside of maybe the squig herder being able to go inside of his pet, none of the abilities or scenarios displayed in the trailer remotely exist in the game. Tchar'zanek won't join you in your siege, you won't have moments of 1 on 1, you won't be burning people/freezing them - hell, you'll be lucky if you can even take someone down in under 30 seconds as a damage caster.

As a Sorceress at full dark magic charge, you can crit someone to death in under 30 seconds. Usually the 3rd or 4th spell. You'd have a large chance of dying from backlash though.

And regards to someone else who said Sorceresses, that they can't use ice. They do. Shadow magic and ice. That's the way they did it on tabletop an that is how I recall them structuring the Sorceress in the Beta.

Midnitte, have you NOT played Warcraft 3's Expansion?

Look folks, MMO Cinematics are suppose to showcase something of the players and for the players. To showcase a cinematic about Arthas is reserved for single-player games. I'm sorry, but The Burning Crusade cinematic did WAY more than this cinematic did. It screamed epic. This cinematic is just... okay, so Arthas wield Frostmourne--- and? The father's little speech wasn't even touching--- it was-- cliche.

I've played both why? Did you not see the BC cinematic?

That dragon he raised plays an important part in the the expansion, as does Arthas and Frostmourne.

This is an MMO. MMO Cinematics (i repeat) are suppose to showcase something OF the players and FOR the players. This cinematic only showcases Arthas. You're going to already see him so many times in the game anyway. For most players, the "story" doesn't matter to their activity. As long as its exciting and interesting. How many people care what role Ragnaros plays in their Raiding? I care, but I don't think most people would. THey want gear, they want stats, they want to look cool, they want to have fun... reasons and points? No one gives a rip. Like Warsong Gulch--- a flag apparently dictates who controls a lumber milling which the Night Elves oppose... wtf?!

Get WAR. Why? Because it will probably have fewer bugs because it isn't promising as much details and capabilities as Darkfall is.

To appease both sides of this party...

Darkfall exists... but it will be far buggier than even AoC. Why? Because its promised things far beyond what current developers have successfully accomplished despite their own team-sizes.

Do you really want to screw around with Darkfall in its haphazard state on release?

Ah Rome... and AoC.... as it were---

Rome wasn't built in a day...

... but it sure as hell fell in one.

This is the first time I've seen Kim Hyung-Tae's art concepts used for an MMO.

Just as a background note. Kim Hyung-Tae did the art for War of Genesis III and Magna Carta. The games weren't that great, but his art is awesome.

as a wow veterna with +400 played days i'll tell you the chances are high that you will love AOC at first, then hate it.

why love it?

it has the graphics, sound and to some combat system wow has not. those things will stick on you. It is also new, and the noveltry factor will make you not notice things that are apparent

why hate»?

because wow , even at early times was a much more finished product. Evne if you stick around on AOC till lvl 80, you'll end up wondering why there isnt anything similar to the lvl 60 original wow quest that gave you something to do , sometimes soloing, or in small groups, rewarding you with good (while non epic ) items that actually improved your character-

you'll also wonder why some bosses dont drop anything, or drop things that are useless, why the lvl 50 item you got back then is still as good as the one this lvl 80 mob droped....that is if you end up surviving enough in AOC to reach 80. Until then you have to survive certain shocks like: crafting not really working, itemization and item progression totally messed up, "talents" not working, cryptic stats on items that you will find hard to understand what they really do- if anything.. most of them don't do a thing, a fully instanced world---- like you are in goldshire, using it to make it more familiar to you, .. but it is goldshire#5 while some other player you know is in goldshire#3, loading screens left and right.

The lack of content presently will force you to grind a lot after lvl 55 or so, to the point you will want autoattack back after killing the same mobs for the 118th time... knowing that you'll need to kill them 177 times more... so even one of the most hyped aspects of the game ends up being burn by the lack of content.

Yeah, pretty much what Dkevlar said. Couldn't put it any better. I once worshipped AoC, up until the "hate"-phase started to kick in, 15 days in.

P2P?

Aside from gameplay boost, item malls are usually for aesthetics. Different costumes and dyes, etc. Depends on the game, but most item malls are for aesthetics to appeal to gamers.

No race or class restrictions. You can be whatever limited amount of race or class you want to be. You can grind as slow as you can and you'll definitely be forced to group grind as usual. Quests? Yeah right, there really aren't any to speak of. Group grind to your heart's content, my friends!

Only time will tell. AoC's system was horrible because its fairly a new concept to shy away from the turn/tick-based combat. If Champions has a way to take that combat a step further... it may just be more fun than the combat AoC had. Besides, remember that AoC is a low-magic world where most everything is a bore-tastic melee fest. Champions have more powers and effects than AoC ever will, since they're superheroes after all.

Umm. The lower level guys are already mid-lower to mid level.

"But Is there any lower levels group with ? i hate where your playing and theres no groups how do you advance with out others ?"

Yes, I understand its an MMO. But why the hell do you need a group for lower levels?!

Alright destruction side... who do we take down first? High Elf King or Emperor?

I have an extra question to add to this.

With PvE and PvP acting in an interesting sort of synergy... would we be able to just PvP and level-up through that? I don't know if DAoC had that system, but I heard it may have. Because my g/f would love to just PvP rather than PvE, she hated after getting to 70 on WoW, but loved battlegrounds. And if we can't level up through PvP, is there anything anyone knows that will make the PvE bearable in addition to the Tome of Knowledge?
