And for the MMORPG.com mods who might be wondering how is DIABO 3 on topic for this forum, and not the off topic forum....

1. Yes, DIABLO 1, 2, and now 3, are not true mmorpgs. Just morpgs. BUT... all agree WoW is a mmorpg. And a good 50% of WoW's success is from it simply taking everything from Diablo 2.

- Random loot from chests, random chests all over the game world., random bosses/dungeons/encounters that don't have to be taken out... but are there just for the fun of the challenge, item sets, and far more.

It's the random factor that keeps diablo 1, and diablo 2 alive to this very day. And it looks like DIABLO 3 will keep this brutally brillian idea.

2. BTW, for all you Blizzard fans, rpg fans, and mmorpg fans, you/me/we all owe thanks to Ultima 0, and to another incredible oldie ROGUE.  ROGUE technically was the first ever online game.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_(computer_game)

Diablo 1,2, and now 3, copied from ROGUE.

Ulitma 0 = Showed the world RPGs could be made into a computer game, and that there was a market for it.

ROGUE = Revolutionized computer RPG games. Pushed comptuer game technology light years ahead, by being the first online computer game back in 1979-1981.

DIABLO 1 = Revoultionized computer RPG games by pushing online gaming even more. It also made online gaming more mainstream than ever. This in turn led to other online games getting popular, including the MMORPG market.

DIABLO 2 = Argueable the most popular online RPG game. Still sold in stores and played to this day. Still THE MOST HARDCORE ONLINE RPG GAME.  The first online game with true perma-death. It's popularity would help Blizzard make the money needed for the next item ........

WORLD OF WARCRAFT the mmorpg. The most popular mmorpg ever. And at present time it is STILL GROWING!!! It has not leveled off yet, has not peaked yet!! ROGUE + DIABLO 3 + ANARCHY ONLINE = WOW.

Blizzard has now created an incredible circle. The popularity of DIABLO 1,2 allowed Blizzard to create the most popular mmorpg of all time. The popularity of WoW has allowed Blizzard to go all out in making Diablo 3. Let's hope Blizzard spent their insane mmorpg profits.... well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All you other mmorpg game DEVs ... take note, so that you can make your games as good, or better. And stop it with the vaporware, and bad horrible gross unplayable game launches. (*ahem* Anarchy Online, WW2 Online, Asheron's Call 2). Find out what your target audiance is, and stick with them!

 * I thought it had peaked? Correct me if i'm wrong.

Little TOO happy eh?

Information for Bioware's Dragon Age is released.

What do you want to/ expect to hear from Bioware about Dragon Age?

In the end, proof that one or a few NGE servers with populations deemed to be "impressive" is moot.

First off, the standard of what an NGE server considers to be heavy is far different from the PreCU days. No one is going to deny this. Screenshots of events or videos will always fall under the "good ole days" scrutiny and fail in comparison.

Secondly, the current heavy totals on a single server are admittedly a result of players leaving dying or dead servers. This is nothing worth singing about because it indicates the entropy that NGE brought with it. There were light servers in PreCU days as well and had the players fled like rats on a sinking ship back then to one server on another - I am sure that said server would have been full as well.

The difference now is that we are using NGE server populations which are a result of other servers dying and/or populated with "please for the love of god play me as a free trial" players and comparing them to when PreCU servers whose populations spilled over into low pop servers because the other servers were full.

Everyone knows SWG's time is limited. Perhaps not because of Bioware but because it is long in the tooth... and it has a past that would put most town whores to shame.  Because a game lingers doesn't mean it isn't dying.

Off topic question for a second, is the new Bioware MMO really a Star Wars Universe based one?

but seeing there are free trials all along the year.

I just wanted to touch on this point in your response and I agree that there are trials throughout the year, however, I often hear of people getting vet trials when I do not have on available (or vice-versa). With the 5-year anniversary events, I get the impression most vets have received a trial for this month in order to participate. Looking at the current round of posts, it seems like more then the usual concurrent trials being used.

Naturally, this is all based on my perception, so I could be completely off about this.

edit: typos...

The increase in population is probably due to vet trials. Hell, i'm using one.

just face it nge is going to be shut down soon for biowares pre-cu kotor game.

so 2 server have what? 10 people playing? in pre-cu swg we had on a slow night on a small server 20k people playing.

pvp in those days lasted the whole weekend not just an hour and people quit after

planetside and matrix will be shutdown too in order to make room for $OE's plan of making money by putting out games on the ps3 as they already have no respecting pc gamer that will play anything by them.

As much as I hate the NGE - I don't use my emotions against it to make false statements. Yes, the population did go down. That's a fact. However, to state that only, "ten people play" is pure BULLSHIT. You have people who are actually playing the game now stating that while the population isn't as high as it used to be, it's not ten people. So STFU. People like you like to bitch and bitch and lie and talk shit through their mouths about something that happened almost three years ago and you haven't played since then. Get over it. The best thing you can do to protest is to simply not engage in the activity you're protesting against.

As much as that was sort of mean to say, your right. There is nowhere near 10 people on at a given time. Theres 10 people in Jabbas palace at peak hours, small compared to what it once was maybe, but its not the whole server. My LOGICAL estimate is around 500+ people online on the server on a given time. Im only basing this off of Tatooine and Dantooine, as I haven't been to the other planets.

Nothing good ever comes out of games that take a long time to develop. Ever.

Cries of Vaporware need to stop. They're ignorant, and they're irritating.

Uhm, Team Fortress 2 comes from Valve, they made Half Life.....you know.....one of the best game engines created.

And Valve has partnered with Sierra, and Sierra is their publisher, if you don't know Sierra..they've been creating games when you were still in diapers.

To compare that to a company and developers no one has ever heard of doesn't fly.

He was being sarcastic Waterlilly lol.

Yes, Pre-NGE when you already had a large amount of the population leaving and SOE adjusting their stats to show fewer people causing a heavy load.

You probably got the veteran 30 day trial, why don't you put use to it and try it out. That is if you actually played and aren't going along with the bandwagon.

The game really is not that bad, and my screenshots do no justice as they were taken the day i installed, and screenshotting wasn't my number one priority. Just try it out, its not like your subscribing.

Actually I did try it out. And I played from beta till the NGE hit. I know exactly what you're talking about. No new player has a non-created Plains Hunter in their datapad. I've tried it out, multiple times since the NGE hit, because people like you keep saying thats better, the populations are increasing. Every time I try their vet trials and I see no improvement, I see virtually no one on, yes at peek hours. Multiple servers too, yes. All the ones you guys claim are the big ones.

Well, your opinion on the game, is very seperate from mine, as is everyone elses. I suppose that will never change, and i don't expect it to.

Agreed BattleSkar. I am on Bloodfin to, just signed up with again for the vet rewards. To my surprise as well Bloodfin is VERY populated. I'm seeing people when i normally should't, and in places i normally wouldn't. Him me up to RP some time, my names Juano.

Screenshots?  I don't mind you enjoying the game but don't tell others the lies you want to spread because Bloodfin is my server and it is dead.

I have screenies of population at around 10 in the morning. Their pretty good for that early time. You can check it out if you want, their in a post of mine.

Now go back, send each of them /tells, and report back here how many (0) actually aren't AFK macroing.

Well, i only saw one botter/ farmer marcroing, however if you mean speach macroing, then i have seen about 10 over the past week. And all of them were the same people each time. Typically their in the starport, or just outside it. It doesn't bother me much.

I was on another thread earlier today that was trying to disprove the population on Bloodfin. The server really has quite a lot of people on it, and not just tatooine. I did not take enough screenies of the population because I didn't expect to be doing this, but i can add more later. This was during about 10 in the morning eastern o' clock eastern on Friday last week, and I was about level 12 or so. ***Not all these pics take place at 10 in the morning, just most of them, hence nighttime in a couple.

Here is the masses that are always, and i mean always, in the noob starting area. Selling goodies and such. For 10 in the morning i think this is pretty good.

And over the past 5 days i have seen dozens upon dozens of player cities, not sure if their populated, but this one was really big and took my by surprise when i came over the little hill.

http://s294.photobucket.com/albums/mm115/roarzorz/?action=view&current=screenShot0014.jpg

And yes, i was on Dantooine the other day killing Graul with my RP friend, and there were about 7 people at the outpost and another 6 close where we were questing.

Here is a picture of my RP smuggler friend that has been pretty cool and helpful to me.

http://s294.photobucket.com/albums/mm115/roarzorz/?action=view&current=screenShot0024.jpg

Jabbas palace also has about 12 people at peak hours, 6 of them just sitting around dancing, or just gone AFK.

I can take more pictures if you ask, so if you would like, just do so.

*Another interesting thing about the population is how you'll be on the northern outskirts of nothing in Tantooine and find someone putting up there camp ( cough cough,  not naming any names, Destroy)

All in all, if you got the veteran offer but are getting scared off by people who can't grow up over small things, I recommend looking and trying for yourself. This game is doing fine population wise, and anyone who says otherwise probably only played for 4 hours and gave up, or someone who just is stuck in naysaying land and doesn't want to get out. So all in all, try out the game for yourself, and see if you like it, and don't let anyone else convince you otherwise.

Age of Conan?

I enjoyed the game, only thing i disliked were the instanced areas. I just didn't like seeing a gigantic blue wall. I mean, you'd figure that if superheros can fly, they could be able to fly above the wall. Oh well though, if someone gave me 30 free days i would play it. The game is fun.

how many times are we going to hear the same thing? I mean,  I'm not for Darkfall, or against it, but you guys need to find new stuff to dish on DF instead of repeating the same things over and over.

however, if it is a scam, its the "customers" own fault for falling for this trickery in my opinion.

RP is not dead in my opinion.

I just took up the offer for SWG 5th anniversary and on my fourth day into the game some guy messages me saying to meet him in the cantine, says he needs to talk to me.  I go, he says that because hes a smuggler he needs a good pilot, and because im Sullustan( and their good pilots in the lore) he asks me to be his gunner. We continue on and he tells me of how he dislikes the imperials because they killed his old jedi friend, and they were on the hunt for him, so now he has his house out in the outskirts of Tatooine to be low key. Then the next day i go back and talk to him and he has a metal arm that he says he lost the other day during a smuggling mission, and how he needs my help to get back at the Black Sun who did it. Its a pretty intriguing story actually that never seems to stop.  Sounds like crap when i tell it, but he got me hooked into RPing and now im doing all the pilot missions to help him. Also he buys me armor to help me out, so it works out well.

A lot of people i see in SWG have Roleplay above their head to indicate their RPing. If you are scared of this game, don't be. Give it a shot like I did, and you will actually end up enjoying yourself.

Plenty of RP around, just need to know where to look, and who to look for.
