From Age of Conan US Forums : Does AoC have longevity?
General Discussion « Age of Conan 5/31/09 1:21:53 PM
Lol...I love it when people use the excuse that other big AAA MMOs are coming soon and Funcom won't be able to compete with them...
what makes you think for a second that those MMOs won't end up like all the other post-WoW MMOs? |

The first anniversary, such a great moment, the game survived and is getting better, let's repay the players for sticking with us, we've got some great lore, let's use it and create something memorable, let's... HAVE THE PLAYERS GO FROM ONE WEBSITE TO ANOTHER AND SEARCH FOR KING'S SEALS
After such a successfull event only a fool wouldn't believe in Funcom' s ability to deliver an expansion. Just after the Xbox360's version is released, of course.
Hey! Thanks for proving my point! Especially considering the anniversary event wasn't even MENTIONED in the OP.

I love it...LOVE IT...how people can turn a simple question into a Funcom/AoC troll.
After patch 1.05 I think we might start seeing a shift towards the expansion. 1.05 will fix the last big problems with the game, so I think we'll start seeing them focus more on content, so my guess is we'll see the expansion in mid to late 2010, but so far they haven't mention anything more about the expansion. |

Why are Roleplayers the "Lower Class" Players?

Pro-Tip: the minority always screams the loudest
I think there are a lot more mature people in WoW than there are immature ones. |

I don't know about L2 never really played that game, LotrO when I was there, there was plenty of RP if a site died it may be because the community moved on to the Lorebook or other LotrO network sites, there was a few of them if I remember correctly. Now you got me curious so I did a quick search and found many RP guilds on Landroval alive and well, the last RP event I found was this march the Moonlight Serenade. So again it's not because people don't roleplay in general chat anymore that it's not there. There's very good reasons why RP is no longer apparent. Now I play EQ2 and WoW right now, and on Argent Dawn in WoW of ALL games I walked right smack into a circle of horde toons talking in character, I excused myself and went on my way.. :p Eq2 has their annual summer event coming up the Festival of Unity and I fully expect to participate and rp my ass off. :P So while you may have to search around a bit roleplay is not that obscure.
EQ2(AB), like UO(Europa/Catskills), has a pretty decent RP community , but the other MMOs... I mean, you pointed it out perfectly when you said that there's only been one RP community event in three months on the player-designated RP server. How many roleplayers do you feel there are in each MMO? A hundred? Four hundred, maybe?
Go to the servers Moon Guard and Wyrmrest Accord in WoW, then come here and tell me RP is dying off. |

Completely false man. Everyone has imagination, everyone in this world can come up with something unique. I agree that it doesn't always apply to make a story about your character and become your character, au contraire, not everyone can act. That's a major difference. Roleplayers community are very un-inviting for the mass. People have to attain a certain standard for them and that's simply... sad. It's basic inter-personnal rejection and sorry but you actually seem like one of them.
Earlier, I mentioned about my 9 year old clan. Well, some of our guys started with us when they were 13 or 12... little kids. However, when we met them, they were cool and while they did say odd jokes, they enjoyed being with us. Now these guys are adults and extremely good players. They have become our little brothers and even today, some of them are really happy to have met us when they were young. Us 25+ at the time, accepted them and took care of them and worked on a friendship. Today, we're a hardcore PVP guild in MMOs and a competitive clan in FPS. That's probably why after all these years, many people decided to threat Roleplayers as lower classes.
There are elitist people everywhere, not just in the RP community. I think the biggest problem with RPers (and sometimes I'm even guilty of this) is not having very much patience with beginners. If you break lore, you'll probably end up on a few RPer's ignore list. I began RPing in WoW, so I've seen sluts, vampires, lycans, sons of arthas, kings of lands unknown, the guy who single-handedly took over Silvermoon...oh yes, I've seen it all, but this is exactly what people are afraid will happen to their game. They don't want the world to be filled with things that obviously break the lore.
there just isn't much patience anymore. PvEers, PvPers, RPers...they all suffer from a lack of patience when dealing with almost anything in a game anymore.
My advice to fellow RPers: Kindly explain to the person how their character is breaking lore. If they throw a hissy fit...well there's a /ignore command for a reason.
Please Note: KINDLY! |

Why Vanguard is my favorite mmo now...
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 5/23/09 9:29:50 AM
If they did sort of a relaunch I would certainly play for a while. I've always been interested in Vanguard and even trialed it a little, but I need a nice RP community to keep me going :) |

I see where you are going with this, but I don't totally agree. The developers need to give us the tools, or "props" if you will, to role play with. It's hard to role play a tavern if there is no way to dispense drinks, or no musical instruments to play. While I agree that we need more areas to use for role playing, I also believe we need the tools to make it immersive. While I still consider LOTRO to be a theme park wow clone, the little things they had in there such as playing music or smoking your pipeweed really add a lot to the immersion of the game world. Games need to focus more on these little details.
O no, I totally agree. It helps a lot, but the real basics that will keep role players mostly happy is places to bring their ideas to fruition.
Those little details are certainly important, but not necessarily NEEDED. I certainly agree with you. |

I'd say LotRO and AoC are both pretty good bets for RP.
I would say WoW, but I'd probably be eaten alive and then shat on a Night Elf's face. |

I think most RPers would be happy with this: a space to help bring their ideas to fruition and an enviroment that doesn't scrutinize them for enjoying RP.
In AoC, the developers keep telling us that features for RPers on not high on the list...guess what?
WE...DON'T...NEED...FEATURES!
They are nice an helpful, but really all we need are empty towns and taverns and castles. Places that we can fight for (an empty castle would be really cool). WE TAKE THE PLACE OF NPCs! We don't need player housing and or being able to play instruments...are they nice? Definitely. Do we need them to RP? No. We just need space. Lots of space...and aren't MMOs supposed to be worlds? I'd say worlds are pretty big. So Mr. Developer, if you could manage to give us an empty town and a few empty castles here and there...I think you'll find that we can be quite an asset to your game. We are the ones that will continue to play through imbalanced classes. We are the ones that will keep up our sub even if the next raid is two months off. We are your stability. JUST GIVE US SPACE!!!
and to those who STILL think that RPers use "thees" and "thous"...go to your game's RP server and watch a little bit. I think your eyes will be opened. I'll admit I'm a newer RPer. I have been at it for about a year now, but in all that time I've never seen someone say "thee" or "thou". |
|

You know, my first thought was to write up a long post explaining to those who don't understand exactly what RP is and isn't, but then when the anger subsided...I realized that I don't really care about what lolwut'ers think anymore. They continue to use the cliche that all RPers use "Thee" and "Thou". They continue to look upon RPers as nerds in their mom's basement. I can explain RP until I'm blue in the face, but when all is said and done you won't care. You just want a group of people to pick on so that you feel better about yourself. I don't know what make people feel the need to put down RPers and frankly I'm not sure I want to know, because it's probably something very personal and emotional for those people.
My advice to you: look at is from my shoes. Do a little research on what RPing really is. And I want you to think to yourself...what would the world be if there weren't people like us. People with creativity in acting and writing and story telling. What would the world be without us geeks? |

Does Vanguard have a RPing community? Just a little curious...always like to keep an eye open for a good RPing community :) |
