Looking at the past...and considering how companies that tried to push their game out the door before a WoW expansion/the original WoW ended up...no. They need to take their time and do it right.

EQ2 and WAR are prime examples.

Read this op.

That was incredible...I'm seriously speechless.

I WANT THAT!

You might want to go back through and check for grammar and spelling. I just caught a few mistakes while going through the article.

This was a very good article! Great insight. Could you possibly give us a little information on what would be best to study and such to become a community manager? Some previous articles have talked about breaking into the industry, but I'm always interested in what it takes to become a community manager or a developer or a programmer, etc.

I aspire to become a quest writer/designer. I truly have a passion for lore surrounding games and that sort of stuff. I'm just not really sure what I should study in college that would help me the most and what sort of skills I would need in order to be a quest writer/designer.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated :)

Seriously? Are you really complaining about and OPTIONAL item that you can purchase IF YOU WANT TO?

I don't understand why people have a problem with optional stuff like this. It's not affecting gameplay in any way what-so-ever. I don't care about race changes...I don't care about server transfers...I don't care about fluff pets that you can buy.

The only thing that would really piss me off is if they start selling items like XP potions or armor and weapons. If I were you, I'd be pointing out the faction changes rather than the stupid fluff pets.

RMT isn't always bad. The sky is not falling. The MMO genre doesn't deserve to die.

The problem with newer MMOs is they are looking at WoW and taking things from WoW that really only works in WoW. They also tend to try and make things better that are already okay.

They steal the wrong parts and innovate in the wrong areas.

WAR should have never had scenarios and 2 way RvR

AoC should have never sacrifised the feeling of a real world for graphics.

Darkfall shouldn't have tried to be everything WoW isn't.

Aion should have tried to break away from grindy quests and PvE filled PvP.

AoC, WAR, LotRO, and Aion all destroyed the feeling of a real world by instancing.

It's just stealing the wrong parts and innovating in the wrong areas.

The real problem is that new games are trying to measure using the WoW stick...and they can't out-WoW WoW.

Welcome Jaime :)

I'm not a regular poster anymore, but I'm always stopping in here to read the articles. You seem to be a nice, classy writer. However, you do have a big pair of shoes to fill :D

Can you just give us a little info about what your weekly articles will be about? Connecting we-the-players view with them-the-big-mean-devs view? Could you give us some general areas you'll be covering?

It's no longer a scenario grind. Most of the action is in the RvR lakes. You are always going to have zergs...I don't know why common sense didn't kick in if they ever really said there was not going to be zergs...

LOL!

The only reason it's no longer a scenario grind, because there aren't enough players around anymore to make them pop!

Seriously, I tried the 10 day comeback a couple weeks ago and uninstalled the game just a couple hours later.

Scenarios didn't pop and RvR lakes were just as empty. You were lucky if there was maybe one whole little zerg going on somewhere.

The point is. People have grown tired of the whole game. Grown tired of Mythic's inability to fix the game. There are more people quiting every day, then coming back and sticking around.

So please. Don't make all kinds of Roses and Sunshine statements. While it's clearly not the case!

I never said it was roses and sunshine...it's just not as bad as everyone tries to make it out to be.

When you played...was it during primetime on a med/med server or high/high server? Even in T1 on badlands there is at least half a warband running around during the off hours.

i read in patch 1.3 they bugged "LOA" and gave it to much damage, now they tuned it doen 50% and put a 8 sec cooldown on it.

whats this character worth now ?  8 seconds cooldown on the main skill for my build ???? i am dead faster than this cooldown resets...

Those developers still make one mistake after another, its still a pain to read the patch notes. Reading patch notes should be fun and motivating.  Warhammer patch notes are still and always frustrating. Nerf here Nerf there without having respect for the player that worked hard on his char to reach some decent levels....

7 month no WH and still i am not comming back to this game until they stop ruining the classes  .......

That's fine...please stay away. One less number crunching whiner.

Seriously...if you refuse to come back because of one nerf...then we don't want you apart of our community.

Regardless of the fact that squig herders are still very good.

The game was at the time I played, a scenario grind that tried to pass itself off as an RvR game that had consistent fun non-zerg keep sieges.  The classes were also insanely unbalanced for a game that uses a "mirror" class system.  Overall bust of a game with all the potential in the world.

The classes are insanely imbalanced or you just don't want to take the time to learn your class, the other classes, and look for gear that will enhance your play style?

Seriously...I have played with people who go for the weakest class just so they can show it's not underpowered...and they succeed.

And how is it any more unbalanced than WoW or Age of Conan or any other AAA MMO that has PvP/RvR? You get in a good group and you will steamroll no matter how underpowered your class is.

well after seeing familiar names every day and seeing the passion of some gamers...you do get attached.

Well, let's see. We had Sanya try to start a racial war with her article, and now Dana insulting a large portion of the mmorpg community.

While I tend to give Dana the benefit of the doubt as he has been one of the best writers here, it is sad to see.

Well, keep the ol'[ site bookmarked, Capn. Come in and say hi once in awhile at least.

I MAY pop in once in a while...but we'll see. I gotta let this cynical mood pass...

and no...you can not have my stuff...especially not my bucket...

Probably not a lot of you know me. I post infrequently now-a-days. You'll usually see me post in the Age of Conan/War/The Pub forums. I've also been known to enter into the Off-Topic frey every once in a while.

I started coming to MMORPG.com last summer so that I could discuss WAR with people and get a feel for what it would be like. Now that I look back...I've said a lot of stupid things and done a lot of stupid stuff on this forum, although I've really grown a bit on this forums. I've met a lot of really awesome people and a lot of not-so-awesome people. I'be got in fights and I've been excited to the point of histerical laughter.

I've enjoyed this place. Every night for a long time I've been excited to come here and get news on all the MMORPGs. I love to see the industry grow and watch as games mold and change.

However, I've decided that my time posting on the forums, reading threads, and participating in forum debates has come to an end.

This has been coming for a while now. I'm just rather uninterested in what people have to say anymore...because it's always the same. Everytime a new game is announced...there are always those who will passionately love it and those who will want to burn it at the stake. Trolls and Fanbois as they've been named. They are the same, no matter where you go. WAR, AoC, Darkfall, Aion, Fallen Earth, WoW, LotRO, Vanguard...I've seen a lot of bitching about all these games and I've seen crazy passionate and blinded fanbois of them. I'm sick of watching these stupid flame wars. It's old and not interesting anymore.

Really...the straw that broke the camels back came today in the form of this article:

http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/243003/page/1

It's the article written by Dana pretty much calling out Role Players as whiners and intellectually inferior to TROLLS!

yah...I wasn't happy in the least. I figure, now that even the staff are joining this idiotic fray...it's time to end my time here on the forums.

I'll still pay attention to the news and keep an eye on the happenings in the MMORPG industry, but I'm done contributing my thoughts and opinions on this site.

I have a lot of good memories...my excitement for WAR, some conversations I've been a part of, the knowledge gained...but it's time to pack my bags and head out. I just want to thank everyone that contribute to all the game forums with guides and objective material and such. You are the kind of people that lowly people, such as myself , look up to. You have really helped people like me to learn more and helped me in a lot of ways when dealing with games...so I thank you.

I hope that MMORPG.com cleans up its act though. I hope that they don't allow hate-filled articles by mediocre writers anymore. I hope that I can come back here one day and see threads where people are debating the game in depth *WITHOUT INSULTING EACHOTHER* and sharing ideas.

Do I really expect this though?

No...no I don't.

Sincerely,

Capn23

NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED ZOMBIEEEEEEEEEEEE MMO'S!

BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAINS!

EA and BioWare can now be sure that I WON'T be purchasing SW:TOR

Not when they are stealing from Mythic. I have some very strong words for the new Head and creative director of the "MMO/RPG Group". It has to do with sexual intercourse and having it with themselves.

Electronic Arts...destroyer of games.

I 100% want an MMO where PvE is optional. I'm lovin' WAR right now, but I think we need more games that allow you to advance through PvP.

if you have only been doing scenarios...you missed out bud. Open RvR is where it's at. Just had a pretty epic battle at Stoneclaw Keep (T3) on Pheonix Throne tonight. It was atleast 2 warbands vs. 2 warbands.

But don't take my word for it...or anyone elses for that matter. You'll find that people on this site love to talk shit about whatever game isn't their favorite or isn't a sandbox.

Just do the re-enlistment thing and try it out for yourself. You might want to toy around with some of the new classes too. Slayer, Choppa, Knight of the Blazing Sun, and Blackguard.

I suggest joining Pheonix Throne though...we are an RP server, so you'd have to respect those rules, but the populations are pretty well balanced, although there are whispers of it starting to lean towards Order a bit, so you might want to check out some of the Destro classes.

The game is really fun in it's own respect. You just have to give it a chance and try out all there is to try.

blah blah blah...

AION

blah blah blah...

WAR killer

blah blah blah...

*copy paste my fav argument for AION*

BLAH BLAH BLAH...

it turns out that AION is no better than WAR. The End.
