So far its really shaping into a disapointment. Its one thing maybe doing pvp and having some ranking to go against others, it makes up for me over gear. When it comes to pve though, you need SOMETHING. Cosmetics doesn't do anything at all for me. I want some progress, even if its such a minor bit of progress it makes me feel like I accomplished something. With the 'pay' system as it is, it seems like anyone with money has the power to instantly catch up with any bit of 'gear' they need (weapons having certain damage being what i heard is the only factor) which leads me to wonder... why even play?

 

It really makes me wonder about this games longevity. Sure, we can say we play games cause we enjoy it, but in the end its all about earning something. When all you can really earn is credits (money) which can just as easily be bought through real money, what are you really working to achieve? Theres just nothing... absolutely nothing.Why even invest a lot of time into a game that there really isn't much for me? I'm really not that hardcore into pvp and outside that just nothing really has a purpose behind it. I don't think care bears even want a game where you earn nothing from it. Everyone wants to gain something and it just looks like you really earn absolutely nothing out of your work... zip... zilch... nada...

 

PvP to me is just a side note that is fun sometimes but ultimately not something i can invest 5 hours of my day on and enjoy it. I need more and really I have yet to see what will keep me drawn in.

So what if you don't PvP? Once you have run the end game dungeons in story mode and finished your story, you quit? Or Keep playing just to get literally shinier armor that has no tangible benefit whatsoever in game? I think the vast majority will quit and fast.

Yikes the amount of name calling and petty attacks coming from this fanbase just becuase I voiced some concerns is disturbing. It makes me fear that the community for this game is going to be down right awful too IMO

I haven't played WoW for a very long time, that game got tiring. That game has nothing to do with th3 fact that this game seems to be better fit for those that couldn't take the progression of other MMO's.

The whole "I just wanna have fun!" crowd reminds me a lot of people who stood in fire constantly in WoW

The majority of the fans of this game seem to be completely against personal achievement and any osrt of progression that will make any players better than anyone else.

This sounds to me like an MMO for all the people who failed horribly in other MMORPGs, whether it be PvP or PvE. You don't have the time to invest in your character and make serious progression? Get Guild Wars 2. This game is ideal for parents, but does not seem like a good fit for the hardcore or even regular mmo player whatsoever. This seems to be a haven for casuals and "bads".

Am I missing something here?

This is the only preview I have read that does not ignore what is wrong with this game. It is a must read for anyone even remotely interested. Probably the best written prevew for any MMO ive read in years.

Read this post for the essence of my issues with the cash shop. Any serious PVP is going to avoid GW2 like the plague and it makes me extremely sad and depressed.

I for one am boycotting the game until the eliminate the Pay to Win aspect. MY friends are doing the same and I have seen movements across the web that share our sentiment. I urge you veterans to join us in this fight, and we may yet save GW2 (I highly doubt it, it seems too late but we have to try!)

A lot of people defending the current items in the cash shop are incredibly short sighted. They do not understand how far Anet will push this (as much as possible). This is just the beginning and the situation is going to get worse fast.

 

Yeap, but whatever, I am a game hopper anyways, when this comes out I'll dump swtor(which sucks)and play it until copernicus gets released, so I only need it to stay sane for about 6 months. :)

True, but atleast that game you mentioned isn't Pay to Win.

Are you guys really thinking the reason excuse given to explain the relation gem/mist castle buff is even remotely appropriate in this video?  Should i list them?

- "If you don't want to get the buff avoid the castle" is kind of scary isn't it?

- " Buff are on timer", no really aren't all buff on timer anyway?

- "They work only at the vascinity" Don't you usually use a buff when a fight start anyway? The guy seam to think its a good deal because you won't be able to upkeep your buff all the time during 2 week, it seam to cost too much, wtf?... I mean seriously. I don't want to raise a panic, but how can those "excuse" be even used?

- Ho ye, the last one must win the competition of the scariest excuse, "the mist is not supposed to be balnced", so let us make it even less balanced with the cash shop? No really are you guys serious?

Really, why is everyone ignoring what this guy is saying? Is it wrong or do people just not want to acknowledge that this might be a problem?

He is 100% correct and there are serious issues with this cash shop that the majority of fans are choosing to ignore. It is really a sad state of affairs.

Currenly GW2 is a pay to win game. There are several elements in the cash shop that give players willing to spend money significant time advantages. People will level to 80 faster if they pay than if they do ot. In WvWvW, where gear and progression will matter, anyone who does not pay for the time savers will be significantly behind those that do.

I plead to you TC to avoid this game like the plague, unless you plan on spending several 100s of dollars on the cash shop. I do not want you to waste your time.

Ive heard numerous negative reports concerning this game and I have also heard that the game is pay to win (due to the cash shop holding items that will give players serious time advantages over other players.)

This is really a bummer. I was looking forward to this game but now I am going to avoid it like the plague. My friends who were excited about it are the same way. Anet really screwed the pooch on this one.

Yup. Soon some of the cash items will become a requirement if you want to group for end game PvE.

There is currently a thread running right now where someone has proposed redefining the traditional Subscription model as the true P2W model and trying to embrace the microtransaction model just so they can keep GW2 from being defined as P2W.

I doubt you'll get any reasonable answers.

After seeing the type of things available for pay in the cash shop for this game, I want to know what are the benefits of still playing this game if you do not intend to spend several hundreds of dollars to keep on par with those that will use the cash shop?
