Nice, congrats. I had to wait 8+ months, but i hold no anger

Hope to see you in-game!

Hey, LOTRO launch was one of the best, if not the best, in terms of lack of big bugs or incidents. AoC is extremely crap still compared to where LOTRO launched, so I am not arguing that.

If you want to hate AoC, go ahead. There are a million reasons you should. But I was just correcting the misconception that LOTRO from the get-go was a dream 1-50. It simply wasn't, as most games aren't.

The exploits you are talking about are rather harmless and fun for those who get to experience them *as long as it isn't a forced annoyance*

The exploits that we all have to worry about are the ones like in LOTRO, buying extra XP once at lvl 38 gave you full rested XP for the entire duration you were 38, or say AoC, people were exploiting a repeatable quest that gave them massive amounts of XP. The same occurence happened in Vangaurd i believe. In Vanguard you have the videos up on Youtube of people going 100x faster than intended and also "flying" with their toon.

As long as it stays innocent, whatever. Sadly, it won't.

We now have a closed beta version!

I know i am just echoing my thoughts with what has already been said so i will keep it relatively short.

It is an impossibility to kill a game like WoW on ANY level, if it happens it will happen from within (ie Blizzard pulls the plug) Even then, the death will be unbelievably slow. Even ignoring the fact no game can kill WoW, it is crazy to think a game such as WAR which has such a different methodology when it comes to MMO gameply can kill WoW. WAR is about the RvR without raids in terms of how raids are handled in WoW. The PvP in WoW is much more "memememe" where the WAR PvP is more about being part of a something bigger than themselves. You will not seeing these egomaniacs who play arena with these small 2-4 man teams. Whether you like it or not, you will be providing to whichever side you choose on a much bigger scale.

The selfish, childish, and egotistical PvP that WoW plays towards will not be found in WAR (outside of leaderboards). Although the graphical style can be called similar, likewise with the UI, that's about all that is similar with WoW. Aside from all the staples MMOs have that go back far before WoW, I believe the games are too different to adversely affect one another.

Sure, WAR being the next big thing may take away some WoW players who thirst for something new, only those who truly want something new will stay. Those comparing it to their WoW lovechild at every turn will eventually go back to WoW.

Yeah, even very early on when your PvP experience is restricted to scenerios, you will never be fighting your arch-nemesis race exclusively. There will be those who simply don't want to stick around their current surroundings and with easy transport very early on in the game, will go from one area to the next. Although the storyline arch and such will be more exclusive to your side of the WAR (which i think gives this game more depth anyway in the long run), you won't be stuck fighting just the high elves as a dark elf.

The way mythic has constructed and scaled leveling, it very similar from going to 1-60 in WoW. So the worries that "there are only 40 levels omg" is rather silly. Look at LOTRO, only 50 levels but that did not mean you made it much quicker than you did to 60 in WoW.

Also, there are 80 renown ranks, and renown rankings take a much longer time to get than normal XP for your rank. There will be those guys who manage to get to rank 40 a week or 2 after the early release (Honestly I am likely going to be one of them with my beta experience) but getting to lvl 80 in renown will be a long and tough road, no question about it.

If you are into WAR, and you don't want to max out RvR as well as PvE, you are looking in the wrong area.

AoC has alot of quests, okay, so it takes the cake for that. But as far as storyline goes, LoTRO is the winner, not only because the IP is popular but you can actually follow in the Fellowship's footsteps. Both games have the normal kill or collection quests, just one has quantity and the other has quantity and (in my opinion) more quality.

you mean the 100k boars I killed in LotRO? And the content which dried out at level 40?

Sorry but questwise AoC is far better.

And just for the records since I was called a Zealot lately .. I also like LotR and still have an active subscription. The game just had the same problems ...

If you're going to rag on LotRO, at least get your shit straight.

LotRO is CHOCK FULL of quests all the way to 50.  There was never a point where I didn't have quests to complete to maintain character XP progression.

For the example you gave, Lv40+, you're so far off you're talking out of your ass.  Here are the areas that cater to Lv40+.

Evendim - Starts off primarily for 30s, but gets into the low 40s.

Trollshaws - Roughly like Evendim in quest level layout.

Misty Mountains - Caters to Lv40+.

Angmar - Caters to Lv40+, ridiculous amounts of quests there.  Highlight instances are Carn Dum and Urugarth.

Farochel - Until today's new (FREE) content update, it was the newest high level map catering to Lv40+.

Eregion - Today, July 22, Turbine rolls out Eregion, another high level area.  The main intent is for it to lead into the "Mines of Moria" expansion pack.

I'm not a Raid player, but the Rift is a possibility if that's your thing.

There's also the "Reputation Dungeons," which are:  Sarnur (near Thorin's Hall), Goblin Town (in Misty Mountains), and the more advanced version of the Great Barrows in the Southern Barrow-Downs.  All cater to high 40's and the 50's.

All the areas above, except for the Reputaiton Dungeons have many associated quests, not to mention the XPs you'll get for rampaging through there killing the NPCs.  Not sure what quests you'll get for the Rift since I never bothered with the whole raiding scene.

If you're going to rag on a game well known for lots of content, you better have your shit straight.

I was going to try and point out what was wrong with Kerith's post, but damn, you nailed it. I actually find the sheer number of quests in LOTRO too much! From 1-50. Plus there is many other things to do.

No, LOTRO may have faults, but a lack of content is by no means one of them. Quest driven gameplay is LOTRO bread and butter, that's the type of MMO it is!

You guys must have started later on in LOTRO. I was there at launch, and if you want to make a fair comparison with where AoC is 2 months after launch, you cant take into account Evendim (which is 30-40 anyway....) or Farochel which came a long time after i quit playing regularly...not too mention these places that are coming out today (Book 14 is out today?!?!)

If you played around launch like I did, you hit a serious wall around 38...Solo content above lvl 40 was almost non-existent. Between 38-40 I grinded Wargs or worms. At 41 you ping-ponged from Misty Mountains to Angmar.

From 41+ it was pretty much a group-only session, with a lot of grinding of the orcs and such. Once you hit 46~ is when you started grinding the heck out of Carn Dum or the spiders (Which i did and found remotely efficient)

Saying LOTRO 2 months after launch had solid content 1-38 would be correct. 39-50 was a barren wasteland. I'm a lifetime sub (have been there since the last week of open beta) so there is no reason for me to protect the game, and didn't even leave Tortage in AoC before quiting that game.

Now, not "you go into big dungeosn with 24 people" I know that already, I participated in raids in LOTRO for a short time.

But in Wow, I see all these guilds saying 4/4 for such and such, then we moved to the next sunny vale thing and now we are 3/6. Are there tiers to the raiding tree? Are they like levels of floors or something? Also, how in the world can a new player who just hit 70 start raiding if there are teirs that have to be met? Does everyone who participates in the raid have to have already beaten the previous level? Does that not force new players to start up new guilds just so they can start from square 1?

Isn't the whole point of running raids for the gear? So after you unlock all the tiers, do you just rerun over and over to gear all your guildies up? If you completed one raid, is the gear that drops at another raid that much better than the one you just completed?

I am thinking of blowing a few months on WoW before WAR comes, so i'm just wondering can i make any progress whatsoever if i commit myself in the 2-3 month time frame? <- this question is secondary of course, i'd rather understand how WoW raiding works than get an answer to my personal question.

Is this even real? Link?

Something that always pissed me off about WoW PvP is that the arena would be full of these lvl 19/29/ect....twinked out fools who ruined PvP for the players just trying to pass some time on their main while the PvE was getting too much for them.

Thankfully in WAR, you level as kill in PvP and there will be no EVIL twink players  ruining the experience for everyone. I for one am very happy about this, what about you guys?

Those guys who sit in front to fthe computer for 12 hours a day even 3 months after launch will always have better overall stats/gears/leveled up alts/guilds/ect...If you are not one of those guys, there is never any reason to compare to these guys becuase in the game you will lose.

The great thing about WAR is, I think people who play for so long are going to be more about PvPing for the killcount than for the gear/XP that will eventually top off.  Having a guild level faster and reach the top faster becuase they have more of these members just echoes how the MMO universe works.

It sucks the NDA isn't lifted, or you all would know just how miniscule this announcement was. Anyway, yet another beta tester still going to play (been doing it for a while, some could call me an elder), becuase I know where the product is now and have a good idea where it is going from here.

It sucks a lot of people are comparing this to AoC all the sudden, or calling it the tip of the iceberg with no rationalization behind it but pure speculation.

The third tab which was recently covered by a bloody "COMING SOON" sign is no longer covered and (somewhat) open now.

Though the inner-workings are exclusive to us Beta Testers, you can read what the general jist is there without logging in.

monorossoiii@yahoo.com

Thanks in advance.

Really it would be like us paying 65-75 euro, not 40 euro. Saying that the 4 capitol cities and 4 defunct classes make up 50% of the product is simply put, wrong.

You can't really blame people for getting angry at all the ignorance that is displayed here about WAR. People who know nothing about WAR see this news and look for the worse. It's really sad that those of us in Beta have to keep out mouths shut, becuase the staggering amount of negative specualtion could be proven wrong through personal experience right now....if I could talk about it that is.

Anyway, thinking these 6 cities are starter cities is a perfect example of just how ignorant the majority of you are to WAR. Now not being in BETA is something you can't solve, but doing a little research on the game would go a long way for the majority of you.

Just like thinking delaying the 4 capitol cities is even remotely close to cutting a majority of the content for launch (I've seen people stating more than half the game is being shelved now....seriously? Do you know ANYTHING about WAR?)

I've only looked through 3-4 topics on this subject, yet could list so many misconceptions and incorrect statements that it would be a rather over-whelming post to actually educate most of you. That simply is not my job and would be a waste of time.

Saying they are gutting 2/3 of the game content is complete and utter ignorance.

The thing is, Capitol Cities are going to be used mostly for end-game content. There are a lot of posts saying this messes up the storylines and such, but I'm in beta and I don't think it's all that pivotal to have 6 capitol cities at launch. Your character does not start his/her life in the city (this is from an interview i believe), they start it in an area designated for your race. So ya, 4 races missing their capitol cities at launch definently sucks, but it is not game breaking and does not require that much change...atleast when in concerns to early quests/storyline.
