Look, your statement was incorrect, and I corrected it. I find the explorer zones boring.. just like I find many open spaces in other games borin, but that's not the issue. Your statement was wrong and misleading. You may resume your petty insults now if you like, you pimply nerd. |

Originally posted by signetring Let me correct a factual error for anyone still reading: This has not been accurate since Mod 4. There are numerous "Explorer" zones which give xp for accumulated kills as well as explorer way-points visited and rare bosses killed. You could nearly cap just with these.. there's a hole around level 8 where you would need to complete a few quests. Also, once again you seem oddly insistent that DDO be a WoW clone. No thanks. |

Funny you should mention character development.. something I find lacking, and not the combat system.. combat is what makes DDO unique to me... |

Any time someone says everything happens inside one small city, I know they haven't really played DDO or quit before Mod 4 or, at least, before Mod 6. The gear is a bit Monty Haul, but that's the nature of MMOs.. Wounding of Puncturing items are maybe one in a hundred thousand, but there are enough chests opening around Stormreach to keep a supply of this item flowing to the richest players.. what can you do about that? Bioware isn't making a DDO 2. Nobody is. If you want D&D On-line, you're stuck with Turbine, and frankly, you're stuck with a game engine that has done a very good job of bringing D&D into the MMO space (And If your beef is with Eberron, take it to Wizards).

Typical of a long-standing game.. we've all shaken out into guilds and into our comfort zones... |

Thelanis, in addition to your comments has an active RP group, and we have some good raid guilds.. we won the Mod 7 'server raid token race' thing. |

Originally posted by mindspat Green Steel item crafting is a grind. No question about it. Oddly enough, it can be a lot of fun when running with well natured people. ;) You can run the Reaver a Bazillion time and you're not going to get the Chattering Ring, but that's because it's in the Twlight Forge and you have to defeat the Titan for a chance to loot it. :P
Say what you will about Mod 8, but the 'crafting' does avoid the ingredient grind.. insofar as it is random and you are guaranteed a complete item if you complete all four 'refuge' quests and the optional at the end of Stealer of Souls... |

I'm amused that the OP declared DDO dead four days before I started playing. The game is alive and well with a 'dedicated core' of players.. we need Turbine/Atari/Wizards to start promoting the game and the revised new player experience again to keep going, but there's been lots of content added.. you need to expect an instanced, group-based game. Once you accept that it's best thing going for complex, fast combat and plot-driven quests... |

Yes, still plenty of forum activity, plus we have player run forums like House Tharashk (for players on Thelanis) My experience with MMO forums is that if the players aren't complaining the game is dead. :) |

If anyone has made it this far anmd is still on the fence about trying this game, please try it. Background on me.. started playing in Jan '07, I have several characters at cap and have been to all the raids (except the 'dead' one, the Abbot). I've played a good number of other MMOs and hated or tired of them all quickly. DDO is a keeper. I wont disagree that the pace of new content is not what we'd like to see, but there have been eight modules of uneven but sometimes excellent content.. combined with the core game there's a lot to do.. there's a few places to go and gear to acquire I don't have even after almost two years. People like the OP complain about character creation, but I should point out that all of that has been redone as of Mod 8 and is much improved for the non-D&D expert.
