Should there be an MMO category at the Video Game Awards?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/13/09 10:41:46 PM
No! Mmorpg's just arent at the level of other videogame genres. It's like the VGAs having a best web game award, noone gives a shit besides us geeks. |

No, I don't have time for that hardcore camping shit. But, i was talking about a PvE only game. And Id rather not see any thing that needs to be camped. Dynamic PvE and spawns would be a true step forward. Ehh if its going to be straight up pve might as well keep the instances or just hand out a quest item that lets the boss be summoned only for you. Not really a point into having these large bosses raids out roaming the world if you can't fight for it. Kinda boring just racing for the pull. I would rather kill people then pull and actually pvp while pveing makes it much more exciting. |

Why don't we see a re-release of older games like UO, star wars, EQ, etc.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/13/09 10:24:46 PM
I played all of those games already. Do I want to spend another 5+ years playing EQ or UO? EQ has had revamps and a sequel, UO has had two revamps. SWG? Maybe two or three years ago. Would I like New Sandbox games with New IPs? Yes. I look forward to CCPs next sandbox. Other games like MO and Earthrise and to see what Bethesda has up it's sleeve. Lets look forward to the new not the old.

Give boss mobs a % chance to spawn some where within a specific zone. Theres so much shit along these lines that just hasn't evolved at all. Instances were just a band aid solution.
As much as I like the pve within pvp mechanic I just havent seen a way to keep the content available to everyone. It's always the hardcore Play all days that kill those things. Do you want to play a game where the main hook are pve encounters in the middle of pvp zones but whenever you log in the bosses are always dead? I've been through it so many times I hate having to join a big business like hardcore guild just to see content like that. Yeah its fun to actually fight over the big bosses but the need to wake up at 3am (being woke up by your GM) just to kill a boss is something I wont want to revisit. |

What's missing in a sandbox game...
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/13/09 10:13:27 PM
What's missing? Nothing. All of the sandbox or hybrid/open ended games I;ve played have been good and needed nothing but a half decent development cycle to add to the games over time (which they all have). UO,SWG, Eve, Ryzom, Wurm, DF, FE were all fine when I first played them. I'm sure MO and ER will be fine also. Sandbox games arent themeparks, they don;t cater to the hand holding crowd that need a reason to do everything. |

Predictable spawn timers. A boss can always spawn at a certaim time if they are not up. Then it is first come first serve. At least with these system people on PvP servers could actually fight each other.
The reason instances are implemented is to kill off spawn camping. If these games instead have bosses spawning on a universal timer like every 4 to 6 hours then the stay at home gamers wouldnt have such a large advantage much like EQs pvp server with the 10+ hour a days ruling the entire server while everyone else were left scraps.

And make enough to spread people around. Camping spawns was almost NEVER an issue in DAoC, because there were other things to do other than raiding.
Less is always more. If your going to have something big like ffa pvp zones with large raid encounters to fight over you need that to be the main focus of the game. Don't also have a million dungeons to run and pvp minigames that would take away from that. You want to build all mechanics around that feature so everyone is funneled into that area. Wanna see how too many options ruin a game? check out WAR. PQs were awesome enough to keep that game booming but no you also had dungeons, single player quests, instance pvp. Imo if they kept the game focused to one mechanic it would be fine right now. Other than WoW every other mmo trying to be jack of all trades is pure fail. |

How do you get around spawn campers? You know the no life newbs that use alts to camp boss spawns so the unemployed guilds can get easy non-contested boss kills at 4am? Is that ok to you? I always found it a problem in games with open world pve encounters on long respawn timers. This isnt 1999 anymore bro, were arent in college anymore. how do you make it that shit like that doesnt go down? |

What's the best MMORPG on the market at the moment (P2P/F2P
General Gaming « General Discussion 12/13/09 8:11:00 PM
Your going to get a ton of different answers dude. For a person like me thats just tired of the fantasy EQ/WoW type games my Favorite P2p is Eve Online. Can't get much further from the standard mmo mechanics than a spaceship, high risk sandbox. As for F2p I also tend to gravitate toword non wow/eq clones. It's not easy trying to play a game that offers a different type but two come to mind. Atlantica Online and Mabinogi. Ones a turn based mmo ala finalfantasy rpgs and the other is a anime inspired sandbox with skill system and randomized dungeons. Both are decent games to play for a month or so. |

He's one of those guys stuck in EQs pvp server days and wont let go. Hopefully one day he will have a game like that, imo everyone should have atleast one mmo they enjoy even if that game caters to a very small niche. |

The one thing that would make this game 100x better for me..

Small price to pay for a large gameworld where you can knock the living shit out of someone and take their stuff.

I ask myself this question. As todays MMOs move further and further away from what they originally were I find myself playing Single player Rpgs more and more. I can tell you why I played Older games though or what originally got me into the genre. I liked the large open ended worlds that gave me enough freedom to feel like I was playing a Fantasy/sci-fi life simulator. A game that finally took me away from the D&D tabletops. The tight knit communities that actually Played together where RP was the most important thing in Game other than bashing someones skull and stealing their loot or working together in massive raids killing enormous monsters. But those days are gone my friend today I play Eve because in my mind it feels like the only game that truely is a Sci-fi life simulation. Communities are what MMOs are about to me, not instances and queues. If a community doesn't play a role in my MMO it isnt one.
In short, Communities that effect the game world is the reason I started and try to continue playing MMOs. |

Originally posted by Thenarius There are plenty of FUN games, but game of the decade is a title that should go to a game that actually did something for the industry. It will probably be Half Life 2 Even though I felt Bioshock came close I agree HL2 was the best Single player FPS game this decade. Freaking awesome game and awesome mod community. |

I liked AA but I don;t think its the best game of the decade. As a stealth action game I've had a much better time playing The metalgear and splinter cell series than AA.

Blizzard just made Grouping a solo game!

Originally posted by Zoulz Why? If someone wants to level that way, who are you to judge that person? I'm not saying you can't dislike it, but i'd be interested in knowing why you think this is a bad thing.
When a game calls itself a mmorpg you wouldn;t expect to just stand in one location and level the entire time like the game world or your fellow server community insn't needed. I've played games like that before (Diablo, PSO and GW). I would expect more from a real mmorpg. |

I would pick a great story over a sandbox if we had mmos with greats stories. Right now linear games fail to have any story at all. If I want a story I'll play a Single player rpg. One day themeparks will deliever a real engaging storyline, then maybe I wont be so hard on them. |

The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/13/09 11:32:53 AM
Originally posted by raystantz Not totally, they need to go one step further imo. Right not you can solo queue 5 mans and BGs. They need to let players solo cross server queue 3v3 & 5v5 Arena and have it give people arena ratings for gear. Then enable Normal 10 man Raids to be Cross server. This right there would make WoW an entirely solo queue able experience. Right Now Arena and Raids are the only content left that force a casual solo player to look for groups. Do this and then I would totally agree with you. |

So play it. It's only a videogame. WoW isn't some dangerous thing that will destroy you forever. My advice would be play on a pvp server. Azeroth is much more exciting when you have to watch your back for sneaky horde/alliance. Get yourself into a decent guild for social reason. then once you hit a certain level queue up for BGs and Dungeons to break up the Quests/mob killing to level. Work on a proffesion that will directly help your character while leveling but at the same time will be useful to max levels (enchanting, JC, Alc, Insc). Take your time and don't rush. Honestly WoW is a much better game leveling than it is at cap. Once you cap you queue for dungeons/pvp and run dailies in a handful of zones that are still useful. Goodluck. |
