[Column] General: The 12 Least Popular Game Innovations of All Time
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 4/07/13 9:28:35 AM
So I decided to give MMORPG another chance after staying away for a while due to their recent lack of quality writers. Then the first thing I find is this awfully written piece hiding behind a rather sensible title. Guess that means you won't get any more clicks (and thereby income) from me.

General: Why Did the MMORPG Become a Grind?
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 7/11/12 11:30:16 AM
Funny (or sad) when you only have to read the title of an article to know the author has no clue. As mentioned several times before in this thread, grind has been around for ages. |

General: Four Worlds Ripe for MMO Treatment
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/17/12 6:34:24 AM
Shadowrun would be great, but I doubt they'd ever manage to create something that comes even close to its potential, so we might be better off without it. Also quite ironic how half the suggestions by the writer in a column titled "No Elves Allowed" has elves in it. |

Decent article. But, like others said, what is described as troll in the list is rather a hater, as trolls generally just try to poke people, no matter how they think about the game in question. |

What exact legal reasons are there for not discussing a ban in public?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/01/12 7:16:55 AM
Originally posted by Icewhite While that might be the case in NA and other parts of the world, in the EU they in fact can not simply terminate the contract for no reason. If you (for example) have three months left on your sub and they would ban you and thereby terminate the contract without a good reason you can sue them for contract violation. Just because something is written in the TOS doesn't mean it'll stick in court. If they go out of business or you act like an ass they of course do have a valid cause for an early contract termination. |

General: 5 Other Movies That Could Be MMOs
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 12/13/11 7:34:10 AM
Seems there's another weekly column not worth reading anymore. Switching authors for this was a bad idea, I gave last week's top 5 the benefit of the doubt, but this one is actually worse. As many said already, the only one that could work is Blade Runner. The rest is all FPS, not RPG (and partially exists already, only thing missing being the movie name). Should I be mistaken and this was not a recent author change, my apologies, but lay off whatever you've been eating over the past couple of weeks. |

What giant number of "pro" articles? There's one column, where the subject is f2p by default, and it gets trashed by all the haters on this board pretty much every time. Saying both camps should have representation on this page is like saying Fox News should show things from the Republicans' view once in a while. And while I usually like Coyote's articles (one of the very few ones left on this site) this one is the same hollow argument the f2p-haters have been making since the whole thing started. In fact it's actually worse, since he's not complaining about grindy and poor gameplay (which a lot have without a doubt), but implying that people have no choice but paying and can't keep track if they pay more than 15 bucks a month. Sorry, but if they are indeed that dense you should probably keep them from any form of money transaction as they clearly aren't suited to run any form of economy. While I know his articles are meant to overstate things he sadly picked the most ridiculous of the arguments against f2p to make his point, which ultimately makes this article fail in my eyes. Besides several p2p games I've also played a number of f2p games and when they start feeling too grindy or boring I simply switch to the next, as they are *gasp* free to get. Now how is that more expensive than switching p2p games every x months?

General: The Tyranny of Items
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/13/10 5:23:25 AM
Like a poster before me already pointed out, this is probably the worst possible choice of pictures to make the point. GW is among the games where gear matters the least and there is absolutely zero need to grind for gear (or do long quest chains). Apart from that all this article does is pointing out what has been said on this and other page a million times before. |

Game Trailer FFXIV Review
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 10/09/10 8:01:13 AM
Originally posted by Kyleran FFXIV's interface really IS that bad, yes. Laggy, needlessly complicated and missing a lot of options that I thought nowadays were standard. It is not bad because it is different or anything like that. To use a simple comparison, it's like if it would be a calculator it would force you to type 5+5+5+5+5+5+5+5 instead of 8*5. However, the game has multiple other issues besides that and at least Gamespot's review reflects the experience very accurately. |

A person that keeps writing such poor articles and compares E3 to PAX should not get paid to write a column. E3 is an abomination where the industry celebrates itself, locking out the people that give them a job. Gamescom and PAX are what proper conventions should be like. But well, not like I expected much else, I have yet to see an article from her that isn't poorly written. Was my bad for believing in improvement. Oh and agree with eyeswideopen, but it's also nothing new really. |

General: Some New MMO Settings
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 8/10/10 12:15:14 PM
While I do like Shadowrun a lot (still have a 1st ed rulebook lying around) I do not think it would work well as an MMO. Reason for that, besides the huge expectations it would create, is the amount of parallel realities in the system. Good luck integrating the Matrix and the Astral Planes as well as a proper Rigger-system (which is the smallest of the problems) in a meaningful way so it works properly with other classes. A lot of the content would be for a limited number of characters only. |

TERA: The Exiled Realm of Arborea: Interview With Senior Producer Brian Knox
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 8/07/10 9:44:41 AM
"With TERA's action combat system, PvP skills will truly separate the n00b from the 1337." I'd really like to know if it was Knox or Fuller who decided to put this abomination in the first answer of an interview. Whoever is to blame should be sentenced to playing runescape for life. |
