Now play as German... cause there aint no Axis.

The population is not "good" like all the others have stated. It is at best ok. It really depends on the timezone you play in. If you play in US primetime, 1600(-5GMT) till 0200(-5GMT) then the population is often in the favor of the allied side. As for the exact player numbers, CRS closely gaurds that number. Guestimates by players places the player numbers in the hundreds... possibly 1000, + or - 100 players. Rarely do you see a battle that envlovles more than 20 or 30 people per side. The REALLY large fights might see numbers nearing 100 people on a side at one location, but then the FPS start taking a REAL hit and this rarely lasts that long. I am not going to blow smoke up anyones butt about this game. I am going to tell you the trueth. The biggest thing is the numbers arent what they used to be. But neither is the teamwork, or the balancing. |

Freebie Plyers From MMOLRPG..are you having fun?
General Discussion « World War II Online 11/19/08 10:02:14 PM
Hardcase, the other poster didnt need to post his exact specs. I run a VERY over the min spec system and still get some pretty stupid low frame rates. I can run CoD4, Fallout3, GTR:Evolution, and BF2142 at max settings without frame rate hits as bad as some of the ones I suffered in WWIIOL. And I played WWIIOL for 7 years... The frame rates have steadily dropped over the years even though I have gone from a stripped down celeron 600 to a rig that is almost 4 times as fast. I was and still am in a squad, and I see it all the time, new players or trial players given the short end of the stick. I am guilty of it myself. I often thought of them as cannon fodder, I would yell at them or tell them flat out to figure it out offline or on the training server. I have also tried to help out a few, but they often are short on attention and only want to learn how to kill something... So I get fustrated with them and leave them to their fates.
Sometimes even the devs themselves are less than helpful to newbs on the forums. I have rarely seen a responce to any tech help questions to a noob on the forums unless by a player who happened to see the question. It is not uncommon to find DOC, a lead developer for the game, belittling the playerbase in the forums with snyde or offcolor comments.
So I think his assesment is correct about the game. |

Battleground Europe: WWII Online: Update 1.29

Unfortantly I dont even classify the game as fun anymore just fustrating. I guess if you know nothing of WWII history, or actual wepon affects or damage, then it could still be fun. But thats like looking at Fast & the Furrious and saying that it was 100% accurate and real. |

Olscholgamer, I couldnt agree more with your closing statement. The only real world problem with the execution of such games would be. The gameing world is filled jam packed to the brim with Lemmings, and they want more of that reskinned joe generic MMO games. Most players dont want to work to get to be the best, or good. Just sit in some of the early betas and read some of the reports and requests that your fellow beta testers send in.... "Oh this quest is too hard, because I couldnt kill (whatever) in 2 hits with my uber axe of blasting fire balls." Or ... " the flight model is too dificult because I cant figure out how to get off the ground with the planes... they just spin in place when I give them throttle." - early days of WWIIOL, Another from the early days of WWIIOL , "What do you mean I need a stick to fly?!?!? thats GAY!".
I had high hopes for WWIIOL back in 2001, and over the past 7 years those hopes have turned into pipe dreams. And I have gotten to the point in my life I am not in the mood to chase dreams out of a company that obviously doesnt care anymore. Purhaps, thats a bit harsh, I will say that differently.... Dont care about accuracy anymore. But now I am just getting mean. |

And now for a non-fanboy answer.
Yes the game is big, its not as big as most would think. Rarely does any fighting actually take place in anyplace other than a town or a city, or even within 4Km of a urban area. Most battles are predictable, and generally turn into a camp fest after about a hour and change. No the world map is not correct for the actual real world. Example.... isnt there a river near Eindhoven? Uh a Bridge to Far?!?! Isnt Bastogne in the Ardenns forest? As for the modeling, most of it is pretty good... as far as looks on par for the game environment. But as for the actual playability of some of the equipment, well thats a matter for another discussion. As someone else said, "You dont have spacemarine armor, or a +25 axe that kills everything..." But you do have the Char 1 Bis, Mattilda, Churchill 7, and Tiger. Not including the Spitfire MkV which can do loops for ever. Or the P38 (322 in game) that is 1 the wrong model for the game and two can do propstands and hover in place like a Osprey. I am saying that the game is FAR from great, at one time it was good, but with recent events in the gaming world I say that has slid back down to a just OK. The only thing that CRS can claim for now is that they are the ONLY WWII online game out on the market. And for good reason, the gameing community is getting burned out on WWII. Where everyone takes a Light Machine Gun (Bren, MG34) and runs around like John J. Rambo and kills all the bad guys with a glorious hail of lead. And for these reasons is why I left the game, and a few others. |

Actually the 6 day campaign, wasnt due to the HC problems... that happened after the 6 day. The fact of the Luftwaffle lack of players is because of the missmodeled aircraft. The are working on it. So I have seen on the beta server that the 1.29 patch does much to try and improve on this, but the rudder yaw problem is fixed, sort of. They just dumbed down the rudder across the board. So they fixed one problem now the rudder doesnt react like a REAL rudder. And I love how you bring up Tier 1 and 2.... Not the problem at TIER 0.... You got a NO-GO in the attention to detail skill didnt you? |

Cainurk, You bring up some VERY good points. This is my problems with the game. I having been a dedicated Axis player, and having played a map as Allied, just to see if my biased oppinions were that biased. They werent. The French later tier stuff is FAR better than some of it should, some of it is all smoke and mirrors. The British stuff isnt as great as some would think. But it too had been nerfed. I cant stand the flightmodel.... its too arcadey. But all other aspects the game, when not nerfed is good. Yes a Sherman 76 CAN kill a Tiger. Yes a Sherman had a crap load of armor on the turret. So dont shoot the turret. But some of the other things.... like kneecapping the axis luftwaffa with the 110C at tier 0 vs Hurricanes, P36(hawks) and A20 (DB7s) is just not a match... seeing as the DB7 can and DOES out run the 110. |

You arent getting it. First of all, the engine does have a short turnover period. Secondly, Tigers (or anything else for that matter) are supposed to "camp" an objective. Dont like it? Stop playing.
I agree with the need for RPATs on both sides. Totally retarded that the rats would consider it "balanced" and "fair" to have sappers that can rush an entire platoon of tanks from some bushes, and take out two before getting put down. Thats just idiotic.
I really cant believe someone who wants RPATs is whining about a tank camping ANY location. Thats what they are there for. To be impervious to small arms fire and to hold down an area. If you are getting slaughtered, the sappers can rush it. If you have any kind of tactical advantage, you can (if they ever add it) use heavy infantry weapons to damage/button/destroy it.
At least the coming changes to the sappers will be to the benefit and fun for BOTH sides, instead of another "Oh my poor Allied babies! You cry so loudly at the mean ol' German tanks that I have to help you!" or "Oh noes! That mean ol' 88 bothering you?! I'll nerf it for you! Better yet, I'll buff your tanks! Here!"
Its Jon Rambo... not Joe. But there is a RPAT in game... the british have it. Its called a Grenadier. It can kill everything in game. And even a Tiger now too.... Mildly funny really. |

nubadak, it is unfortant thats the direction the developers decided to go. Instead of the originial concept. Or even leaving the option for a server like that. |

Tenblue, your right, and I am. I have mentioned it to your squad on TS, and they stated that they would not take part, but would find another way to voice their concerns. I aggreed and left them to it.
topd, so who did say that on TS Axis OKW command channel? I was watching your light come on when it was said, unless someone else was on your channel, your mike at that time then I dont know who else could have said it. Latham was quite silent at that time other than to aggree with your statement. And I left it at that. Other than a snyde remark as I left the channel. { Mod Edit }

So why no Babylon 5 MMO, or Battletech Online? Or a few others.

Thank you, but the idea is just that a idea. I enjoy the cold war era equipment. It is what I grew up fearing, and loving. Its the one war that no one is sure on how it would have turned out if nukes were not used. I am also a huge fan of Tom Clancy, and Harold Coyle. Both right about the possible war between the NATO and Warsaw Pact forces. Both have had HUGE success righting about this fabled war. So why not actually make a game about it. |

Oh so its nice to see the RAT fanboys come here too... TOPD I am affraid, that DOC is the only one with a jacked up sense of reality. And as for how well the walkout orginization is going, well thats something you have as little information about as I do, AS it has not happend yet. We will see how it turns out when it does happen. But like all online things. I dont think it will be a HUGE percentage walking out. But even if it is 25% of the players then it is a large group of players that feel something IS wrong with DOCs game.
So comeing here and attempting to flame me will not work, because this is not YOUR forum. After all you said "We will be DAMNED if you use our forums for a axis walkout, so you best try and find another source for your outlets. " And I did. BTW welcome to MMORPG.com. |

MMORPG Game Concepts « Developers Corner 10/07/08 9:06:00 PM
I remember sometime ago, PRE-9/11/01, EA Games was working on a few games that looked quite interesting and played pretty good. One was the MUCH anticipated, Multi Player Battletech: 3025. This was a GREAT concept something that battletech fans had been waiting for, for close to 20 years. But like all things EA, they gave up after a few weeks of open beta. No decent reason.
The other game that was canceled during this time, was Motor City Online... which too was a VERY interesting game. A muscle car street/track racing online game sim. GREAT concept... sure its not Fast & the Furrious. But it is where racing started. With the small blocks, and big blocks in the 55 Fords, and 57 chevies. Hot Rods, Muscle cars, and Pony cars. And detail.... nothing says customize like, changing the diameters of your pistons, or the lift on your cam shafts... or even the size of your intake and exhaust ports. It was a car guy online DREAM game. I didnt even care if I ever raced, I just loved building the cars, that I cant afford, or find. But again EA said "we are ending the game becuase of lack of community support." But those two are both GREAT concepts for someone to jump on and put out. Expecially if they stick to the level of detail that EA did with Motor City Online. Or MPBT:3025 the strict sticking to the CORE FASA battletech rules. Babylon 5, is just one of those rich universes that was well fleshed out by the writers, and very diverse. But perfectly kept in check by its own innate checks and balances. There has been some indipendant producers who have put out some decent freeware versions of the game. Most notably to me has been the B5 "I found her" Project. GREAT game. Lots of attention to detail in sticking to the actual genre.
Then there is a few other games out there that are just great shooters. That can be worked into a decent MMO. Starship Troopers (based on the novels not the movies) Humans vs Skinnies vs Bugs. Battlestar Galactica, cover the first cylon war. My personal favorite idea.... The Third World War...... A game on the scale of planetside, and WWIIOL. But set in the hypothetical 1980s Europe. Where a actual shooting war breaks out between the NATO forces, and the Warsaw Pact. A game with the fight all the recent generation remembers fearing... a fight that would most likely never be played out. The fight that everyone debates on. Lets see who actually would have won.
These are just a few of my ideas. |

The biggest thing about this game is. If you are a dedicated HITPOINT TIMMY POWER GAMER, then this is NOT the game for you. But if you like realism to the point it hurts, then this maybe the game for you. Its slow. So slow infact it makes Eve, look like its fast paced. But this doesnt make it a bad game. Just a different kind of game. I rather like it. But my moods change so often in the gameing world. But the one thing that I always want is realism. And this does a good job of it. |

The game had so much going for it. And they killed it with the complete toss out of realism. The other big downer for me was the repetive melee combat. It was ALWAYS the same crew fights, just different uniforms. The ship combat was pretty good, till the buffs kick in. Not alot of skill needed there. The complete lack of a first or close third person of your "toon" on the deck of the ship during ship combat was the REAL kicker for me.
And this was just what turned me off during the open beta. |

The axis are planning a walkout. They are tired of the tier 0 imbalance that has consistantly lead to the defeat of the AXIS early in the game.... case and point, 6 day campaign... A large percentage of the AXIS best and largest squads are perticipating in the walkout. The demands are simple. -The 109E4 moved to TIER 0 -The Spitfire Mk1 Moved to TIER 0 -The D520 moved to TIER 0. Reasons, the 110C can not handle the single engine aircraft that the allies posses at that tier. Which has a trickle down affect on the game. Without air control, the Germans can NOT use the 88 in a ATG role, and the Stuka cant perform its Close Air Support role. Then there is the fact that the allies at that point then can bring in their bombers which are FASTER than the 110C (in game). For close air support. The imbalance in the air leads to the imbalance on the ground. But some of the rats, DOC, dont belive this to be true. He insists on giving the allies more tanks at tier 0. And less ATGs to the germans. He insists on firing the WHOLE senior command staff of the german HC (OKW) for some petty stuff that happened and that was incorrectly handled by BOTH CRS, and the players with the problem. Yea this works in the favor of balance HOW? Exactly what I want to know there. |

Well Shane, You want alot from the developer, in a game thats pretty much up to the player base. Thats like yelling at god/goddess, to change the world to make it easier for you in real life. I admit the game isnt perfect, no its far from it, but it is better than what you make it out to be. Its not a game that you can run around lone wolfing everything and becoming the greatest 1 man army since John J. Rambo. Currently with the changes to the guild system. Guilds pretty much claim a tile of land, once their guild hall is setup on it, they can then determin who builds on that tile and at what rates. Most people currently dont wish to enforce this because its pretty easy to just move. And with the NPC merchants you can own it makes life much easier for guilds. As I said earlier, its about working together, not being a lonewolf.
On a side note 300 dollars! Wow, you have spent alot of money.. I spent 40 dollars and I am quite happy. But being in a small guild, that is currently in control of 1 of 2 mines in the game, we can turn a nice profit by just mining and shipping the ore to a more central location. |
