Scott Hartsman = THE MAN.  Kudos to Scott and the rest of Trion on their hard work so far with Rift.

Here is a good write up on Forsaken World that I just found if anyone is interested http://www.massiveonlinegamer.com/previews/1061-my-trip-to-the-forsaken-world

Sound like the game might be pretty good.

Not sure what game you have been playing fosters but Rifts is far from "rushed" and "bad".  Its a great mmorpg in my book and I have faith that it will only get better with Scott Hartsman at the helm.

Lets stop being stupid ok?

F2P or not, we are still talking about a company with lots of employees running a product on an expensive serverfarm, renting offices, leasing huge i-net backbones, paying for advertisements etc. Of course its not going to be F2P. You think its all running on free love and positive thoughts? Someone has to pay for all the crap, and chances are its going to be the freaking players and not the red cross, government or some aliens from the venus.

So please, lets step back for a moment and use that gelly-o between our ears. They are filling the bare minimum aspects to be considered a F2P, which means:

1. The account creation and download of the game is free.

2. Starting the game and creating a character is free.

3. Technically you can earn ingame "coins" to pay for further content for free.

People that read "Free to Play" as "Everything in the game is free, you can do anything a paying player can do and we will only charge you for crappy costumes you would never want anyway" crack me up. I mean "Free to play" is not even a full sentence, it kinda lacks ... oh i don't know, the Subject because it doesn't say what you can play for free.

Its like "All you can eat" in a Restaurant, and then they have tables loaded with stuff that you can eat as much of as you like. But no, it does not mean that you are going to get lobsters and caviar as much as you want for the 10$ you spent. And it also does not mean that you can take two of the table loads with you home, to eat it there. Because freaking common sense does still apply.

And i freaking like the word freaking, it think we all should use it freaking more often.

I agree 100%.  Turbine is not running a charity, there are bills and people to pay.  Turbine has the best F2P system that I have ever seen because you get a ton of free content.   Plus if you are willing to grind for it you can also earn free Turbine points to buy content in their store.(its actually not real hard to earn points)

If you run out of money with a regular subscription game you are out of luck and can not play at all.  With LOTRO and DDO you can continue to have a lot of fun even with no money.  I love Turbine's system because I can pay as I go.

Anyone who think that they are going to find a totally free Triple A  quality game, well you should just move and find another kind of game to play because you are not going to find it.

Being that Frodo never tosses the ring into the fire(Gollum falls into the fire with it)  I guess that means the game will go on forever. Which is sweet because Lotro is a great game ;)

Some people say that it's very bizzare to play as another sex in an online game, do you think it's simply fun and for the look, do people take this too seriously, or is it linked to an identity problem?

Yes, you hit the nail on the head! Congratulations!

/sarcasm mode enabled

I play a female character because I have identity problems.

Don't tell this to anyone but, although I am a guy...

I feel more like a girl, thats why I play female character you see...

/sarcasm mode disabled

What is it with these threads?

What's the matter, you fell in love with that sexy bloodelf only to find out its actually a dude playing?

Yes, I play female characters...

yes I have several Trolls, Orc's and even a Tauren character in WoW.

So, tell me... does that make me one of the above?

Wanna hook up and see... I promise, I wont bite...

If it really bothers you so much, why don't you go play Counterstrike... no female characters there! Better yet, unplug from the interwebs quickly... your brain clearly can't handle to content.

Could not have said it better myself.  Like I have said before over the years,  those of us from a pen and paper rpg background would not even blink an eye at playing a character of the opposite sex.  Even the father of rpgs Gary Gygax had characters of the opposite sex.

Hell one of my rpg rulebooks had a small section in them for those new to rpgs stating that this was ok.  So I really do not know why this topic even comes up.  In a rpg you play what you want, its as simple as that.

EA hasn't published ONE succesful MMO since original UO.

They rush the development team to release unfinished product, grab all the money they can and then move the mmo to skeleton crew and then start making next moneygrubbing operation.

Everything EA touches turns in to poop

Yeah but EA never had a great development team like Bioware working on a MMO since UO.  I am not worried, Bioware has yet to let me down with anything.  Quality games has been their claim to fame.

According to Louse, who actually worked at EA Mythic, yes they are in full panic mode.

Dude...seriously? This again? Proof. If you make HUGE claims, like that a-hole did, present some proof.

Louse is nothing more than a disgruntled emo ex-employee who went on a rant. It's obvious EA fired the right person when they dumped him.

Louse isn't proof of, nor a source for, anything of value.

Exactly.  You can not go off of what one disgruntled employee is saying.  Of course he is going to say negative things.   He is just trying to get back at EA Mythic.  The best thing to do is for everyone not to listen to the hype and rantings and make up their own mind.  I usually just either try to get in a beta test or look at several professional reviews from sites/magazines  I trust.

Nope. Forum posters doesn't represent the majority of potential buyers. They never have and never will

They are most likely confident the game will speak for itself once released.

I agree 100% with this.  Besides it seems that fan reaction of actual gameplay at the conventions was pretty positive.  There is always going to be negative comments at forums like these.  It seems like there is always a group of people that just want to root against a game or spread negativity.

Both are good games.   But regardless of what anyone thinks here, I am fairly sure that Warhammer has alot more people playing  then the 1334 people currently "defending the realms" of Camelot.

If you logged into the game you would know that there is generally somewhere around 3,000 playing "defending the realms".  I hate when people talk like they know something.

Yep, that 1334 number has been posted for weeks, the website is broken, there are way more ppl logging on nightly.

Even with the number currently broken, when the Ywain cluster launched the highest that I ever saw that number was slightly over 3000.  Sorry but thats not many people.  What would that be maybe 30k subscribers if that?  UO as of fairly recently still had around 100k subscribers from I have seen.  And you can see proof of that just by looking at the effort that is put into the development of UO compared to DAoC.

Don't get me wrong myleigh7 I was not trying to imply that Warhammer is necessarily better, but I can almost guarantee that it is doing better numbers wise.  Sadly numbers are the only thing that studios and publishers look at.  We can only hope maybe someday down the road  Mythic will change their mind about not doing sequels and develop a DAoC 2.  I know that I would play that in a heartbeat.

I played EQ 2 and always enjoyed it.  My wife also seemed interested but I could never afford two subscription at once.  So now we can both play EQ 2.  We will play this along with DDO and Lotro.

I was not really interested in the game too much, but the trailer showing combat does look pretty good.  Thanks for sharing the video bastionix.

Well, it does sound like they screwed him on a legal contract, but it boggles the mind that they ever gave him such a contract in the first place.

Completely over-rated Developer who grew famous more on the labor of others than his own accord.  TR pretty much proved it.

Seeing as how he and his brother pretty much made Ultima 1-4 I think you are talking out of your backside.  Most full development teams with millions of dollars and huge publishers cannot begin to come close to the excellence that were those games.  Labor of others?  Seriously?  I think you should stop smoking whatever the hell that is because it has seriously degraded your ability to think.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing.  Richard Garriott is a gaming legend.  I look forward to his next project.

Wafa Sultan Debating Islamic Cleric some of my favorite lines..

The Muslims must ask themselves what they can do for humankind, before they demand that humankind respect them

Only the Muslims defend their beliefs by burning down churches, killing people, and destroying embassies

We have not seen a single Jew blow himself up in a German restaurant

The Jews have came from the tragedy (of the Holocaust), and forced the world to respect them, with their knowledge, not with their terror, with their work, not their crying and yelling.

And

“The clash we are witnessing around the world is not a clash of religions, or a clash of civilizations. It is a clash between two opposites, between two eras. It is a clash between a mentality that belongs to the Middle Ages and another mentality that belongs to the 21st century. It is a clash between civilization and backwardness, between the civilized and the primitive, between barbarity and rationality. It is a clash between freedom and oppression, between democracy and dictatorship. It is a clash between human rights, on the one hand, and the violation of these rights, on other hand. It is a clash between those who treat women like beasts, and those who treat them like human beings.

Even better:

Imam: Are you a heretic?

Sultan: You can say whatever you like. I am a secular human being who does not believe in the supernatural…

Imam: If you are a heretic, there is no point in rebuking you, since you have blasphemed against Islam, the Prophet, and the Koran…

Sultan: These are personal matters that do not concern you. Brother, you can believe in stones, as long as you don’t throw them at me.”

Only the Muslims defend their beliefs by burning down churches, killing people, and destroying embassies

Oh really so I guess you don't follow the news much?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/18/african-children-denounce_n_324943.html

The Muslims must ask themselves what they can do for humankind, before they demand that humankind respect them

There are 1.5 billion Muslims in the world.  Most are doing good things for the world.  You can not  judge a religion because of some extremist.  Christians have had their own bloody history of extremism.  But the majority of Christians are great people, just like Muslims.  Learn about real Islam before you make such statements.

Have you heard about Queen Rania of Jordan?  She is Muslim and has done countless good things for people trying to make a difference.  I am just using her as an example because she is high profile and you can look her up easily to see all that she does.  She is typical of how a real Muslim would behave.

Here is another story of a Muslim helping someone

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDd-RyDmvZo&feature=related

Muslims are not supposed to cheat and lie to people, it is a part of their religion.  They also have to donate to charity to help the needy.  It is part of the five pillars of Islam(mandatory obligations)  It is called Zakat, look it up.

I personally feel that Trion was not intentionally trying to copy anything from Palladium.  But on the other hand I can understand how Palladium might feel threatened.  They should just work together.  Trion pays Palladium to license the game officially and thus be able to use some of the cooler ideas of Rifts.  This would help Palladium with extra revenue and it would help Trion by bringing in some of the Rifts fans.  Win win situation.  Why fight?

All the sudden Richard Garriot's Portalarium thing that he is doing with some other ex-Origin people does not seem like a bad idea at all.  If he could make a social game with the accessibility of Farmville  but have the fantasy trappings plus some of the cool features of UO, he could have a huge hit.

There goes any chance of "Project Mercury" being any good. Ea turns any mmo it touches in to poop

Though Todd McFarlane is also renown of having absolutely no sense of lore. He's responsible for catastrhopes like introducing cyborgs to Ultima Online (A fantasy title)

There is a big difference between publishing and developing a game.  EA is just the publisher.  Besides I seem to remember Dragon Age Origins being pretty awesome.   And why are you talking about Todd McFarlane and lore?  RA Salvatore is doing all the lore.(and he has a great sense of lore)  McFarlane is responsible for the art and nothing else.

Funny, I was just lamenting the shutdown of this title the other day. I was in the beta for this and the game really was pretty good. The performance, however, was horrible. Being beta, that was to be expected. It was a big shock when it was announced that Perpetual was going down the tubes and taking Gods & Heroes with it.  Heatwave has bought a game that wasn't far from release, so I'd expect to be seeing some definite timeframes in the near future.

Good luck to the folks at Heatwave.

Its funny I was just thinking about Gods and Heroes the other day too.  I was really disappointed when it got cancelled.  I am glad to see that it is back on track and look forward to the release.
