Sold out?  Well, if you feel betrayed by Funcom because they are moving into consoles and attempting to grab a bigger slice of the pie which is online gaming then yeah, they sold out.

I am pleased by this decision to move MMOs to the consoles.  Evolution baby!!  Its only a matter of time till MMOs are on the next gen consoles.  AoC is the first test.  If its a success then expect more to follow.

I swear some of these fanboys are paid employees of Funcom.

who in their right mind would want a buggy, incomplete MMO that was designed for low-end common-denominator hardware over a polished, innovative MMO specifically tailored to the target platform's strengths?

if AoC is only going to be 50% of a PC game cause of its bugs & incompleteness, shouldn't we only be paying 50% of the regular price of an MMO?

There are a lot of reasons why all MMOS are bugged at the beggining, and the bigger reason is not the console gaming, is the PC gaming itself.

When you express your opinion about AoC, wich references are you taking? I mean, are you comparing the so "horrid" AoC to the incredible and polished  ...insert game here....

AoC is inovative, combat, atmosphere, no Walt Disney feeling... and FINALLY the only Low Fantasy MMO.

When a PC game is bugged, dont blame the consoles, blame the PC market.

The misinformation is about the economy and the rpg aspect.

It is early to tell anything about the economy.

Well, you can have strategy in AoC, Vanguard, EQ2, Guild Wars and DDO in different ways. it depends the way you play and what you are hunting... but of course, you may enjoy DDO combat more.

I didnt have the opportunity to experience players made cities yet, so I only know what we can read about.

Enigma

The instance system in AoC is very, very similar to EQ2, but usually we didnt see a copy of a zone in EQ2 only because the game is ( always was ) low populated.

In the original release and right after a new expansion it was easy to see 3 copies of a big zone in Eq2, the reason we always see more instances in AoC is because the game is much more populated than EQ2.

Even in the release of an expansion, most of EQ2 players werent only in the 0-30 areas.

So, do you guy's think AoC will end up like Auto Assault? I want to buy AoC, but I'm still a little peeved about forking over $50 for AA and it being shut down.

No it wont, Auto Assault was a niche game, I had some fun there, but the concept of AA was not attractive for most players.

AoC will probably be like Guild Wars, very successful but with a lot of haters.

The game itself is more like a mix between Everquest2, Enclave, DDO, Gothic, and Guild Wars in a low fantasy universe.

...try the game, you may like it.

That's good to hear. Anytime someone mentions "console game" in reference to an MMO I have flashbacks to Auto Assault, lol. I liked the game, but you were right, it was a niche game. I like some of the other games you listed, and I enjoyed Guild Wars to some extent, but I didn't like their instanced system. I guess it wasn't so much the instance part, it was when you spend time clearing out an area and needing to go to town to sell loot, then coming back to and the instance area was refilled. So I felt I wasn't making any headway. I hope the AoC zones/instances don't take the same approach.

No, the way instances works in AoC after level 20 is kind like Everquest 2, a zone will only have a copy if the first one if overpopulated, this helps when you are having fun with your group and dont need 15 groups doing the same quest as you... you will find problably 5 groups doing the same.

The impression you will have is, you are in a zoned game, as Everquest2 and Lotro, not in a intanced game like Guild Wars and DDO or a seamless game like Vanguard.

In the starting Isle you will have more solo instances, but it work well in a Sotytelling approach.

It was designed as a console game from the get go, that's not a problem. The problem is they promised us a bazillion features, that they later revoked. Imagine my shock when I got in to beta, to see how many features will NEVER be in the game, features that were still being promised on the main official boards.

The game has good graphics, GREAT atmosphere, truly innovative in immersion, but it ends there. It's easy, whilst I like complex, you have no tactics in combat. That's ZERO tactics, just same routine over and over, and thus I can't really call it an RPG. Economy is a joke. Basically it's wow with +4 buttons on melee classes and boobs for 13 year old wow refugees who never saw one in the real yet.

This is the thing about MMORPGs...

...You can only do green quests and hunt easy-samelevel mobs and say, there is no strategy, or you can solo elite mobs, pvp, duo dungeons that are made for full groups and use a lot of strategy, the same happens with Age of Conan...

I agree about great atmosphere and immersion, this, interaction with another players plus good quests and lore ( yes AoC have it) make the RPG very present in AoC.

Economy will be weak in any game in the first week.

Everybody saw a boob in real life, dont fool yourself, and erotism is very present in the original lore.

There are some real issues ingame we can talk about... but some details you said are not issues, they are your opínion plus misinformation.

...from this interview with the lead AoC designer:

"we designed AoC to be a console game from the beginning"

"AoC's combat system has gone through nine iterations throughout Funcom's quest to make it appealing to console users."

so if you're like me in thinking this is still a beta game with all the bugs and is essentially just another unimaginative WOW clone with a Conan theme that was built to rake in as much money as possible, here's your proof direct from the producer's mouth.

ie: the 100% instanced world, the restrictive pathing, the bugs,  the dumbed-down AI, etc are effectively due to splitting their development resources to meet the needs of console players in order to maximise profits over delivering a quality product.

ie: they sold out. i am really glad i cancelled.

Silent Hill 1-2-3, Bioshock, Final Fantasy, Shadow of the Colossus, Riddick, Enclave...  all console games ( some with PC ports ) ... all of them, great games.

If you dont like something, it doesnt mean it sucks.

Dumbed down AI? Hmm, the AI is better than most MMOS... are you talking about some bugged mobs or AI in general? Bugged mobs will be fixed.

Where you saw a better AI in mmorpgs?

The game is zoned like EQ2 ( a very good pc game ) ...Eq2 also uses copies of a zone when a zone is over populated ( antonica 2, qeynos 2 etc )

Guild wars is all instanced... also a very good pc game

1- you said for the console players... you think you are "better" becouse you play video game in a PC? Silly, dont you think?

2-You need to express a decision to cancel a game subscription in a forum been glad for it like it was a huge decision in your life? hmmm

3-Funcom already said, AoC in the 360 will not be exacly the same AoC we have in the PC...

Funcom need to fix some performance issues and some minor bugs, but really, there is no reason for you to be offended by a game you dont play.

You said like a lot of people just play AoC to see boobs... this is silly.... but the way you hunt for boobs in the internet also sound a bit silly, right? ... just wanted to show you, well, there is not just one absolute reality.

Art and Music are very important in games too, check Gears of War, No one lives forever 2, The Witcher, Bioshock, Syberia...well, you got my point.

Guild wars is free, but you know AoC is not exacly like Guild Wars, just the solo storyline and the minigames( 20% of the game )

YOU had bad experiences in groups, well, I always play with my wife, some real life friends and one or too random unknown player...  and Im having as much fun ( even more sometimes ) I had in Everquest 2.

The first thing I look in classes is the lore, what you said about your guardian is a matter of balance, balance is hard to get in every mmo... what matters to me is the concept of classes.

The main storyline doesnt end with Strom.. and it seems you just didnt get the main point of tortage story.. personaly I always enjoyed the Conan Universe, from the world to the characters, dont you think maybe Low Fantasy is just not for you?

Yes all mmo has a lore, and lore isnt just the main story or the story of some quests... it happens AoC has a very good lore...

Dont you think, maybe the game is not for you as WoW is not for me?

If something is not for you, it doesnt mean it is bad;)

My response:

Yes art and music are important in games, but those games you just listed are all non-mmorpgs.

Guild Wars has just as many features as age of conan, if not more. While there is no crafting or sieges, the game as an extensive pvp system where you can unlock many different things, as well as make characters max level instantly for pvp only.

Not every player has the fortune to play with their friends/guild mates 100% of the time. PUGs are probably the most common groups found in age of conan. There's absolutely no strategy involved at all. All heals are AOE, non targetable, heal over time spells. You don't even have to pretend like your healing. Just click one button and go. Every single class just mad rushes in and fights.

The point of tortage was to bring players into age of conan. The entire place was pretty nice with voice acting, quests that made some sense, and a storyline that kept you somewhat involved with what was going on. After that you're pretty much thrown in a world to do some grocery store check off lists.

You're right this game is not for me, and I'm saying exactly why it's not amazing.

See, this is why Im happy with the art in AoC ( please dont be confused, art needs a concept , not only "pretty things" and AoC, as Bioshock have it ) finally this kind of expression is present in a MMO

Guild Wars is a great game, but it has a easier system to maintain than AoC, this is why for me, is easy to see AoC with a mix of GW and EQ2 in a Low Fantasy setting...

You just didnt get a good group in AoC yet.

After Tortage you will fall in a world that is a amazing gaming version of the world created by Robert E. Howard... you didnt expect all quests would have voice over, right?

Age of Conan is unique and has qualities enough to be called one of the good MMORPGs we can play, you just didnt like it.

The game has some issues, yes, but all mmorpgs have in the first weeks...

you dont like it?? well...

Tell me what's awesome. Is it useless guild cities? Is it extremely repetitive quests? Is it lack of a PVP system? Is it the zoning/instances created for xbox360? Is it the lack of content? Is it the amazing dx10 graphics? Is it the single player/guild wars style story line? Is it the customer support? Is it the class unbalances? Or how about this, is it the over simplified gameplay mechanics aimed to look cool for young teens*?

*this game is clearly aimed for the fun xbox360 crowd. If I wanted to see boobs, I'd click to my website.

So, when you want to see boobs you click in your website? ...hmm, you can see it in real life too, you know ...

Ok Skamper the lonely internet boob collector... lets talk about AoC

Yes, the story mode similar to Guild Wars is very very good.... you know, Guild Wars is a very successful game, between critic and players...

The art and music of Age of Conan is amazing and it is exacly what every Hyboria fan would expect.

The game play and classes are very well done, a mix between GuildWars and Everquest2 for me... unbalance is present in every mmo

Grouping in AoC is dynamic and very exciting

The lore

The best aspect is, the RPG part in Conan is very strong, if you dont like it, well, it is just your opinion, I dont like a lot of games, but Im not silly enough to think if I dont like the game is bad.

Nice try at attempting to insult me over the internet. Doesn't really work.

Guild wars is a free to play game where you purchase the box/account. There's the difference.

Let's see if the art and music is good, then maybe Funcom should've made a movie. My gosh!

Ya the class are well done? My level 40 guardian is basically invincible to all melee attacks? That's well done? Mage archetypes do practically no damage, whereas the tempest of set does massive?

Grouping is dynamic how? Every single group I've been in everyone just rushes in and unload all their spells, and a random person dies.

Lore is present in practically every single MMORPG. I'm assuming what you mean is how involved do you feel with the world around you? Okay so here's the story I'm feeling so far (im level 40). You're a slave, you crash on tortage. You do some quests on tortage and level up. Strom is this mean guy doing shit to the tortagians whatever. You level up even more and kill strom. Then what? Who's the bad guy after that? What the fuck are you even doing? Why are you doing it. If you're going to make the story for the players you need to at least make them feel involved, and have an overarching goal for them, while achieving minor goals.

Oh, no no I didnt want to insult you...

I just hit 41 and am having a blast.

I've grouped plenty in my trek so far, and done a handful of the dungeons, all of which were fricking awesome. AoC has outdoor and indoor dungeons to avoid that damned repetative feel of, o look, another cave. They also have put some of the group content out in the middle of the zones, which I enjoyed as well.

I don't see the problem with quest grinding. Would you rather not have quests at all?

Also, PvP will have siege battles and minigames, not just ganking, perhaps you'd be happier on a PvE server.

Also, PvE has (will have) not sure, around 10 end game dungeons with tiered gear.

I don't see what's missing. And for playing with friends, you can change instances to your friends, and communicate accross instances, you just can't see everyone. I would HATE this game without the instances, I already spend enough time spawn camping.

This post is so funny :))

It WILL have this and it will have that ...

You know Alfa and Beta is over !

"I don't see what's missing" part  to conclude such a post is just hilariuos.

In my last 4 sessions of Conan (2 hours playing time, because I get a rash after that...) I have had the chance to do just ONE PvP minigame. In all other cases a waiting time of more than 1.5 hours resulted in 0 games°

And you know what? My normal FPS in solo was 40, in the city/zones it was 25 to 30 and when battling it out with 6 or 7 players at once I had 2 to 3(!!!!) FPS in a PRELOADED minigame !.

This game surprises me more each day.

Zorndorf

You realized you almost never get a reply? All things you say about AoC are just your experience.

See, you love World of Warcraft, right?

I never liked WoW classes, lore and art, for me it was always easier to get into games like Everquest 2, Vanguard and Guild Wars, the RPG and universe part of WoW it too Walt Disney for me... do I hate WoW? NO

See, because I really like Cronenberg´s movies, should I hate Star Wars ? No, and I dont...

My point is, you probably dont like the games I mentioned as you dont like AoC... but well,  I just cant have fun playing a paladin or a hunter ( too cliche for me ) in a very very colorful world like WoW universe... soo

AoC, Everquest 2 and all games you hate are the kind of games people like me want to see... music , art, lore and gameplay from AoC for me is much more immersive than the pseudo seamless world from WoW.

You should have fun with the things you like and just forget the things that doesnt harm you, even if you dont like these things..like AoC...
