Music: Terrible. The guy sings like a cat riding a chainsaw blade. Graphics: Even worse. I've seen Commodore 64 games that looked better. I'm sure you posted earlier pointing people to this video. It was just as bad then. |

SoE gives 60TB of player's personal server data away

Trust Sony to do something nuts like that. It just reinforces the notion that I must never, ever use their services again. Ever. |

Withdrawal from Europe a missed opportunity, says former NCsoft staffer.

Originally posted by John.A.Zoid The other thing is that the movement animations are often awful - characters leaning forward at almost a 45 degree angle when running, and an annoying tapping noise when they move, which is nothing like footsteps. Why don't more MMOs take the Runescape approach to servers?

I would like a grouping game with ZERO solo content.

Originally posted by Ihmotepp God no, I'd rather stick forks in my legs. I group with RL friends and family, but never with strangers. I just think of other players as NPCs with low to semi-decent AI who fill out the scenery. Most are too stupid to talk to for a couple of minutes, never mind group with. |

Would Everquest have the potential to compete with World of Warcraft?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/14/09 5:57:21 PM
No. I loved EQ in its day, but that ship has sailed. I've never even bothered to try the Vetran's offer they send out to unsubscribed players, not even to log in on my old characters which I know are still there. |

new mmos need to offer free trials within a few months of release or fail

It was a disaster from day one of launch, and as for the incredibly abysmal Guy Fawkes event and its phat lewt of Apples and Oatmeal, the less said the better. |

Originally posted by Reklaw "Flavour" is irrelevant, when it is supplied from people who have a vested interest in making money off the game through sales or even through advertising. They'll do the same as people who make movie trailers - pack as many exciting and interesting clips as they can into a trailer, slap on a moody soundtrack, and finally add a portentous voice-over from some z-list actor who is trying to make his voice as deep as possible because it sounds "cool". Articles in the media will be hyped-up waffle from some guy in marketing or finance who has been told that this, that and the other will be they mainstays of the proposed game - but he doesn't know the programmers are months behind and that they know full well said content will be missing at launch. How many films have been utter crap, yet looking at the cinema trailer they look absolutely fantastic? No free demo = the company knows the gameplay is crap, or it's missing lots of pre-publicized content, or it's bugged to hell - or it happens to be all three. True story. |

If a MMO company puts out a demo, I will always try it out. Always. Even if I don't like the game, based on playing the demo, I always feel the company was at least confident enough about their product to put out some sort of freebie. To pick one example, I played the demo of LotR, having sent off for the demo disc, which arrived promptly in the post. I didn't like the game, but that's just my opinion and tastes. I respect the company for being so obliging though, and would never criticize the game just because it wasn't to my taste. Blizzard is much maligned, but the 10-day trial is a good slice of time, plus the 30 days you get if you decide to buy the game is very fair. I would simply NEVER buy a game if the publisher's didn't have the balls to at least release a demo of the first few levels. No demo = absolutely no faith in their own product, at least in my opinion. There is no reason whatsoever for not releasing a demo. More companies should do what the makers of LotR does, and not make people pay for a pig in a poke when the game is launched. |

Giving up an entire site bacause of the bile, and sometimes sheer banality, of the posts in the Darkfall forum seems rather over-dramatic. Don't read them if you don't want to. I couldn't care either way about the game - mainly because there's nothing concrete around to base an opinion on - but at least I find the Darkfall forum funny. |

Newmeanie's post reflects my first foray into graphical MMORPGS, via Everquest. I was astounded, and had all the excitement and bafflement he describes. When I clicked on a character sitting on a bridge, I was amazed to find out it was another player, who cast a spell called "Spirit of the Wolf" on me. I had not the faintest idea what it did, but thanked them profusely! I made another character almost straight away, picking one of the "evil" races, a Dark Elf, only to find myself in Neriak, one of the most confusingly constructed towns I have ever seen, in ANY game, heh. Like Newmeanie, it must have taken me a couple of hours to find my way out, and my heart sank at the thought I'd have to head back into the labyrinth to train. When my Druid got her first group Teleport spell, I felt I was a gaming god, lol. Happy days.... |

Your posting style is enough to put people off the "game", even if the actual game description didn't. I'd rather stab my eyes out with a fork than even download the thing. |
