How does automated LFG hurt social?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/11/12 5:33:59 AM
Originally posted by Forumtalker Absolutely right. Being randomly assigned to a group comprising a random bunch of players who invariably think the exchange of a few acronyms in the chat box (lol, wtf, ok, GJ, omg...) counts as 'socialising' is a definite sign of a lack of REAL community. It's just a fake community, but that is probably all the Faecesbook(tm) generation need or are indeed used to. Tragically, having an automated system for finding groups gives players even LESS need to communicate like intelligent human beings. |

Why the MMO community should continue to support SW:TOR
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/10/12 9:42:24 AM
Originally posted by BigBadWolfe Why? If the game is proving to be mediocre (or maybe worse, who knows?) then that's the fault of the game company and they have to sort it out. Why should we subsidise EA/Bioware's (or indeed any other company's) mediocrity or make allowances for them? EA/Bioware KNOW full well what players expect these days and they have had AMPLE time and money to deliver it. What makes EA/Bioware so special anyway? If the game fails, so what? It will say more about EA/Bioware than the players. |

Does anyone actually hear themselves on this forum?

To those who think spelling and grammar aren't important in a purely written medium, try being that sloppy in a job application or college thesis and see where it gets you. Then you can give me fries with my order and/or wash my car windows for loose change at the next set of traffic lights Life is a competition, and if some people haven't realised that they're already losing. |

SW:ToR players are overwhelmingly displeased with SW:ToR PvP.

Originally posted by Centhan I've highlighted a few more of his howlers in yellow. A particularly funny part is his phrase "with a more of a", which is in dire need of some grammatical adjustment as well. Using a conjunction to start a sentence is frowned on, but there's no actual rule about it, so I will let that stand uncorrected. It's a shame forum access can't be restricted to those who can actually spell and write coherently. |

"guild housing launched in EQ2 and saw Qeynos and Freeport die virtually over night."
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/08/12 8:53:45 AM
Originally posted by MMOExposed Why go to a player city, when you can chill out in your Guild Hall or personal virtual house. Does it need one? What's the big problem having people hang out at a Guild House rather than a city? It's not like anything exceptional happens in a city, apart from a few vendors, and as far as socialising goes you can socialise just as much in a Guild House as in a City. The same thing happened in EQ1 when PoK was introduced, and then later the Guild Halls in there. It made no practical difference in the long run. Standing in PoK was the same as standing in a City - all it did was move the population centre. |

How would WE know? We don't know you, or know what you like. Just try it, since it's F2P. |

Hunter Blade (rip of Monster Hunter)
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/06/12 4:37:01 AM
It's been talked about before, the last time being maybe October/November. No-one was really enthused by it at the time, so the thread sort of sank without trace. |

Eastern MMOs are becoming "adult" centric

Originally posted by eyelolled Oh lord, not that old chesnut - knights clanking around and unable to get off the ground kind of thing. Knights in plate could run, jump and even do forward rolls on the ground, even though it weighted 50 or 60lbs, because they TRAINED for it for YEARS and because the armour was designed for ease of movement. Check out National Beographic's "Medieval Fight Book" documentary. |

Think Tank: How do you make crafting meaningful?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/04/12 6:49:33 AM
Nothing will ever make Crafting meaningful to me. I loathe it in every game I've tried it, because all Crafting does is leech money and time in return for making junk items that aren't even worth vendoring. |

Class discussion. Many Narrow, or Few Wide classes?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/04/12 6:47:36 AM
None of your options. I vote for large numbers of classes with wide scope and capabilities. One could almost say "to the point of being classless". Almost. Sort of. Narrowly-defined classes are unimaginative, uncreative, have unfeasible limitations and only cater for people who have a very small comfort zone. People I basically hate to game with. |

Aion was a wreck, and there's no way I would even bother to play it now. It's F2P because that reflects its true worth - nothing. i thought Star Trek Online was a simplistic piece of crap, but Aion was even WORSE, which you can rest assured is really saying something. |

Solo players: What elements do you enjoy in your MMO

Originally posted by pyrofreak Yes, I also can't be arsed having to find someone at the same stage of the quest/mission I'm at, at the time I plan to do it, with the time available to stick around until completion as well as knowing what they're doing. |

I see what you're driving at, but even solo games get new content so I didn't mention that aspect. I also didn't mention Socialising, because for all the social interaction there is in MMOs these days the rest of the population may as well be NPCs or even bots. |

Poll: Do you slam all new MMO titles that threaten your game of choice?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/28/11 7:56:57 AM
I find myself all but praying a new game will be good, since I'm yet to find The One Game I really like. The bile vented on new games is mainly due to the lazy-ass way the game companies promise much, then release the same old shit with just a new coat of paint on it. It's been nearly 15 years and we're STIL getting "kill 10 wolves" quests and still the same old Warrior, Mage, Cleric, Rogue-based archetypes and still games where it's all about Levels. To try and disguise this, games companies pretend that the game is really all about "End Game" and PvP, and many thousands of players fondly believe this crap. |

Solo players: What elements do you enjoy in your MMO
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/27/11 4:36:40 PM
1) The thousands of hard-working players who mine, craft and sell things on the Auction House/Market/Bazaar I can't be arsed to mine or craft. It's almost like employing thousands of little ants to work for me. 2) The seasonal or otherwise special events. 3) The antics in Chat that sometimes amuse or otherwise briefly entertain me. 4) Exploration. 5) Killing of mobs and/or completion of Quests/Missions that would otherwise need a group. 6) Individual progression. |
