Firiona is a 7 letter word, obviously too long a word to remember for the poor girl. |

Ultima online was released on september of 1997, haven't found anything more concrete abut Lineage than 1998, still, your pipe-dream comment was way off. Lineage was released in September in Korea, exactly 1 year later. Keep pretending your "3months" is correct though, for your own sake. I'm pointing out what a joke that the claim "Koreans know PVP" in this review is, that's all. |

That was Ultime Online, not Lineage, an American company. UO had PVP before Lineage was even a pipe-dream. |

No, she obviously played the English client, which doesn't offer PVP at all, since only 1 race is available. How does she come out with statements like: "Koreans know how to do PVP" then? |

One day I woke up and realized I was a fan of a genre that no longer delivers an enjoyable experience(for me).

Same here, MMO right now offer nothing I haven't already done in EQ. The leveling, classes, high-fantasy, solo -> group -> raid, holy trinity (tank/healer/dps) is all copied from EQ. I don't get how reviewers even tolerate this garbage anymore. Stuff like Aion getting good reviews seriously bothers me, how many time can you copy the same games and how long can the same old companies hold the strangehold on MMO games. I do play Street Gears though, it's a roller blade MMO and pretty fun. MMO do not need to be the same thing over and over, but as long as the same companies (SoE, Blizzard, NCsoft) have the biggest budgets, they don't care and will keep making the same crap and the same people will keep buying it. |

Review Anyone following this title for any length of time already knew that, but if you're just now catching on to Aion: Koreans do not do PvP as an afterthought.
Really? Could I ask you what type of PVP you were involved in. Since I played CAion and know PVP doesn't start until very late into the game, I doubt you did any significant PVP at all. . . This review is way too optimistic, but then I expected nothing less, 99% of mmorpg's reviews are too postitive.

If you don't want to mountain climb then just take a helicopter ride to the top. If you don't want to play MMO's and just want to be at end game in some arena then why not play a CoD or Starcraft or Demigod or one of the other thousand arena based games?
I don't play MMO to beat endgame and to "climb the Kilimanjaro". Lately MMO restrict more and more abilities behind levels and timesinks and 99% of the game is hidden behind progression, only MMO do this. The same argument you use is used by others to justify poor experiences at the beginning of the game. I knocked Aion for sucking for 20 levels and all the counterarguments can be summed up in one sentence: "the game only starts around level X". Well I'm not playing games to start having fun at point X, I play them to have fun the minute I start them up. If that makes me part of the "instant gratification" crowd, so be it, but I play games for fun, not to show off. I used to play like that in EQ, but realised that the carrot on a stick approach limits gameplay on purpose. |

Well that's another argument entirely, you're saying there's noth enough cooperation within the game and not enough incentive for players to group? I agree with that. But you also claim that solo players should be exempt from leveling or progressing so fast. I completely disagree with that. Realise that leveling was made popular in MMO, not because it's a good concept, but because slowing players down and not giving them all the abilities at once forces them to "level" and pay up the monthly fee. Players demanding faster progression and getting those abilities at a more enjoyable rate is completely fair, MMO imo are way too slow still. Way too many timesinks and way too many roadblocks to slow players down. The reason people grouped in EQ and in FFXI wasn't because the game was slow, it's just because grouping was easier, the players were different and a lot more time was spent chatting in the game. |

It's not about instant gratification. Especially solo players see a lot of the content over and over and level at a very slow pace compared to players who group. If you want to see new things, zones, mobs and get new abilities the game makes you advance. What many (not all) MMO do is slow you down, if you haven't noticed yet. They keep players on a little leash and put a string in front of them. Want to see the next room? Follow the string and jump through all the hoops and you can see something new. It's not "their" fault if they want to experience more gameplay and more parts of the game at a faster rate. The "smell the roses and enjoy the game" argument is bull when you aren't granted access to a majority of the game unless you progress. |

Why is so much content 1080i, even movies are 1080i resolution, basically ripping content in two pieces and making it worse than 420p DVD quality. I wonder what the point is of HD images if the quaility of interlaced isn't any better than DVD, UNLESS they use progressive. But from what I understand even Blu-ray is 1080 interlaced sometimes, depending on the movie. Why do we even have interlaced still?
Difference between interlaced - progressive: |

How does WoW relate to this article? In regards to the violence in games, some developers are just looking for trouble. Some E3 trailers were just dispicable. I'm not in any way in favor of banning games because there's violence in them, but some companies (Valve) need to get a clue before they release trailers. |

I really don't get the attraction some people have with Aion, I guess it's a fab and it's "cool" to like Aion. That's how it is in Asia at least. The game itself is terrible imo. But Waterlily...waterlily...Aion has wings111. |

For all Ex DAoC Veterans - AION is the way to go
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/15/09 10:20:56 PM
These Aion threads are getting worse by the minute. There's no PVP in the game for the first 30 levels, what are you talking about OP. Aion has managed to throw concepts of 10 different MMO together and mixed them into a bowl and they made an incoherent game which tries to do everything and isn't good at anything. |

It's a different market. Blizzard makes less than 10 percent of their profit from China. The Chinese currency and buying power in China is still very low and usually companies lease the game out to a Chinese distributer. Yes China is a huge market but you need multiple players to even equal the profit you would make from a European or North American player. |
