I'm hopeful some of the 415k customers will log into AOC and play. I'm not too keen on server hopping, but the two servers I have characters on are frighteningly low pop.

I'd have to disagree.  A recent run through the main cities on my server showed them to be virtual ghost towns.  Corridors once teaming with players sometimes are completely devoid of anyone even at prime time.

My son and I made the decision, we're leaving the game at the end of the month and starting WAR next month.  We gave AOC a good go...but just not enough to keep our interest, especially with most of the population exiting in droves.

In retrospect I disagree with my own conclusion as well..Was just tryin to stay in line with that outlook they make visible on their site. I think it was like 11.5 mil EBIT. Which can't include the initial sales, since initial sales were roughly 4-5 times that figure. I concluded that it was residual sales and 3 billing cycles?

In that case I could be way off.. 200k subs @ 9 mil (3 cycles) + residual sales + trial fee? Or any other combination to account for their earnings.

Not sure..but that outlook didn't look very good at all.

The 2 servers I visit are aren't teaming with life, by any stretch.

just wondering when the folks on this site will be completing that review, continuing where the 1-20 left off? what are the reasons for not finishing that review anyways? im sure someone here has had plenty of time to get to 80 now considering alot of folks get there in a few days to a week.

1-80 review

Above is a Cymdai review. I found it to be very kind and accurate for someone playing on the same server. If they were to do a follow up about the server and it's current state, it wouldn't be so kind.

I play the game on a PvE server & have a level 56 Demonologist & since I only get to play for an hour or two a day at most, the whole lack of content issue hasn't affected me yet.

On balance I wouldn't say the game is that bad, but it seems more like a console game than an MMO. Many of the quests are interesting enough & possibly even better than average compared to similar ones in other MMOs, but it just feels to me more like a souped up version of "Balder's Gate - Dark Alliance" on the PS2, where levelling is easy & you just drift through the game until it stops.

To take the analogy further, in theory you can play the "Balder's Gate" again from the start with a different character class but probably most people don't bother & I feel the same way about AoC. Usually in MMOs I like to create lots of Alts, but in AoC I just can't be bothered & whilst it has been fun enough for a few months I would rather switch to something more durable.

For me the biggest illustration of why the game design is more like a console game is that bloody awful 'Destiny Quest'. Every ten levels or so, it is an ongoing reminder that the game was designed around a single player story line rather than as a persistent world.

Another reason that I haven't bothered creating Alts is that I find the idea of repeating Tortage depressing. It was nice enough the first time round, but the constant droning on & on about the 'Destiny Quest' is just unbearable. It should be possible to just create an Alt that starts in 'Khemi' or 'Tarantia' like other games, but because 'Tortage' & the 'Destiny Quest' are so heavily ingrained into the game's design this seems unlikely to change for a very long time, if ever.

I played my last MMO for several years & at launch was really hoping that AoC would last a similar amount of time for me, but sadly not. In theory I can join the WAR Beta soon, so this might even be my last week.

I support this view. Several of the issues raised with the above post are ones I and a couple of my gaming buds brought up.  For me, getting started before many of my friends..many more issues were prevalent.

The broker being broken for the initial week or 2 weeks? The initial rush to the game left people off loading their loot through garbage vendors. Nearly every zone had loot bags littering the ground and with all the years of development and a long beta period, no focus on the economy. Crafting was completely down as well.

Economy is paramount for me personally. So, amateur broker system, coupled with zero crafting and horrible harvesting system. This game is still in limbo in regards to it's economy. That's being kind.

The "Destiny Quest" had issues, to say the least. General chat was littered with dialogue reflecting frustration and the petition system to fix it was ultra lame. My petition went un answered for multiple 6 hour sessions.

Suffering through Tortage again sucked, with the exception of the ganking. It added entertainment to the chat. Nearly 100% of the chat was complaints, moaning & arguments.

I think it was a MMORPG staff writer that did well to identify and touch on many of these things.

Since his/her recommendation was to not buy this product, I haven't seen much of them since. The staff writers name escapes me atm..

I'm not an AoC fanboy and I understand why a lot of people feel like they have been ripped off by Funcom. I also do believe that AoC is probably doomed to fail.

I still like the game though. The PVP is fun in groups and it is getting better. Funcom has came up with a way to discourage ganking that I believe will work.

Those of us who have played a lot of games on launch know that endgame content will come. Until then join me on a pvp server and have some fun.

When there is a bunch of room for improvement, the improvements made are more noticeable. (ie:Vangaurd)

Give it a chance. Its not as bad as you might think and I believe it will get better.

Keep on rockin, Jasz.

Keep in touch and post some stuffs to keep us updated on what's going on in game from time to time.

Howdy.. Where would you expect the following statement to come from?

"thanks! for those that purchased the game and currently play"

80 Necro - Deathwhisper My gaming peeps returned to their respective games, in my second guild, the 40 slot ventrilo is now barren..log in from time to time.

16 Assasin - Deathwhisper Started this fella mid way through the Necro's 50's stopped entirely when they removed the ability to farm lower lvl instances.

I could be much clearer on my experiences with sieges, pvp, stat gear, gems the economy..and quite a few more things that have reduced my opinion of the game but I've already been verbose on it. Largely the gaming friends abandoning the game after I urged them to join me. Damn, we tried. Very disappointed, Looking for something different to play via MMORPG..

As for it not bothering you at all, I don't know what to say other than that might have a lot to do with the fact that you are a male and slightly detached from the situation.

Could you help describe a specific scenario or situation I might be detached from? If it could remain specific to ranting, females and shoes?

You wouldn't feel the same if such a snide jab were aimed at your wife or daughter.

It's entirely up to her. The two young ones lack maturity and dicipline.

Surely you jest about a female demographic in regards to AoC.

Excluding age and household income. Could you touch on this?

Iin case you missed it, "this happened here"- just now in this thread.

The comment in question wasn't posted on the AOC forums?

Just keep in mind.

A strategy for an avatar that continues to blunder with it's base.

The comment didn't bother me.

In their house or domain.

All free of a mandated course of action, reaction or  response.

Comparisons, analogies and embellishment excluded.

Take care.

I've always thought it best to remain silent and logged or kept detailed note on someone's questionable character. Over time, if attention isn't drawn to each occurrence and the individual feels more comfortable or bold, they'll eventually make a blunder. One that stands on it's own and forces reprimand or one that supports bringing the noted history forward.

As to the comment itself. Doesn't bother me at all.

I'll admit my hypocrisy about many things but not comments or actions in someone else's house. If this happened here, the comment still wouldn't bother me but I certainly wouldn't defend it either.

Has there been any response from the female demographic yet?

Sadly tho, people still arnt gonna get what we are talking about here... They just don't get the size and scale of the problem, or that this is an organised and focused attack on the existence of neutral and free forums. They would rather make stupid digs about 'tin hats' or whatever....  :/

It's just far easier to say it dosent matter, or we are 'crazy', then to care, until the forums they take for granted have gone of course.

I give it about 2 years, but then I am an optimist.

It's an in-law I speak of and he got the idea in college, where another student was taking a job with a Government law enforcement agency.

The job? Monitoring forums and chat rooms to collect information. Not sure if was national security or profiling data collection.

So, he cloned the idea and put it to use. It's not the entire operation, they do roadside billboards to infomercials. We all meet to play ball every Sat AM. I'm going to ask how its going on that front tomorrow. It's been a while since I was last intrigued about it.

I've always been curious how people could be influenced by a television commercial and advertising in general. I blame the impressionable sheep for commercials existence and how it's infiltrated and destroyed nearly everything.

This message was brought to you by _________!

I'll only speak on what I've seen and touch on some answers I've gotten when we've discussed this from time to time.

An entire list of consumer sites are logged and graded on activity and population. Most importantly they're categorized so they meet the criteria for the product group. No websites/forums outside of it's scope are used with the exception of a trial site.

The trial site is used to understand the limits of the moderators and site admins, be it PHP, VBulletin or whichever. Always up to date on what tools and techniques can be used to maintain the maximum number of avatars and operate under the radar of site moderators and admin.

The forum software, it's add ons and plug ins are incapable of indentifying them with the forum tools.
Websites are purchased/obtained for use of the email, free mail services are used to cleanse and provide even more avatars.

Not linking avatars via domain, isp and free mail services are key. As well as date of registration.
IPs are masked. Only an amateur operation would neglect this.

There are a plethora of independent intranet services that store IP sets on individual blades. They can be labeled anything they want it to be labeled, they can provide security and independent IP definitions, where a WHOIS search would never, never provide accuracy. Unless of course your targeted by an organization with true investigative power.

They'll begin banking avatars thru registration, profile customization and initiating a post history.
This fella is an independent marketing firm. So, he's never verified whether the client is a participant with the script.

He has verified, that he is given a particular product. One of many reasons is that it's easier to measure an increase in sales. Which is important because sales increases are fundamental to the contract.

Each post is saved and stored (billing) in an album or file. A lot of times the entire thread and dialogue are the marketing avatars.

He was going to hire kids from our local university but went the other route and hired more mature folks with a mortgage..Well, not necessarily the mortgage part, but a young lady with a kid that needs (big time) the job. In the cubicle all dang day, and she sure isn't playing solitaire. I'll guess she's rockin and rollin.

Needless to say, it's a new and effective way to reinforce a product and entice the click, add to cart ballgame.Anyway, had a small break and figured Id post a bit on it.

Take it easy

Hey guys,

We have received similar reports like this over the past week and all of these have been investigated. What we discovered during our investigation is that the early payment is in result of a delay in our billing system where it would hold certain accounts due to account inconsistencies before fully processing the actual transaction. The delay to the process was in result of the excessive amount of traffic we had received during the launch of Age of Conan. Now that the system has caught back up, you may notice an early payment on your billing statement as your original transaction that was on hold and never deducted is now being fully processed. So the transaction was actually for the previous month and was processed a few weeks late.

If you feel that this deduction is still incorrect then please contact our customer support team immediately via email at for further assistance and review.

Thank you,

Can't help but notice the wide gap of quality between this repsonse and the newly appointed corrospondant. Whether you begrudge Famine or not, he acknoledged the issue and offered up some clarity without suggesting your mistakin, a liar or reporting posters. Something that's happened for the third day in succession by the corrospondant.

Keeping an eye on your acount/biling status is paramount.

Difficult to refute. As to the itemization, this is a legitimate concern that gets overshadowed by the laundry list of other, more important issues.

Ok everyone we have been very tolerant of this till now. Now we realize things get heated when people don't agree and the fact still remains, no matter how much you might see someone wrong, someone saying lies, not reading or whatever reason you deem fit to get upset. There will be no flaming on our site.

It is a simple rule, personally I have been very easy going tonight along with all the mods here and I am sure many of you will agree. I will unlock this thread shortly after doing some edits. Usually, as you know these threads are just locked forever.

There was a very calm and civil conversation for sometime here and whatever the reason are that it has changed is not acceptable. After this point, no message will be posted here. Just those things you hate most, warnings and bans you know the drill.

Everyone has been very civil today on our forums for the most part. Counting that we have a new MMO just around the corner launching and another that has taken a bad taste for some of our members we are very happy with your continued efforts to follow our RoC (Rules of Conduct) very well. Let's keep it up so this will never need to be done again. Ok people?

Thank you

Just in case anyone missed this.

As to the issue.

Credit card companies are obligated to freeze a disputed charge. The account page supports the folks claim that Funcom charged out of cycle.

No reason to think it wont be rectified. If it's happening at an alarming rate, Funcom could have some issues.

Seems unbiased and I concur with some of his thoughts. As with the reveiwer, I too log in and find the same, small group of players pvping. Catch 22..I want more players but I can't bring myself to refer the product.

"Judging by the server loads you could assume all is well. But these may as well be static images. A technique was found last month by a player to calculate how many players were online.  During the evening on a weekday they found only a few hundred people playing on the less populated servers. Out of those few hundred, how many do you think would be around your level? The method was patched to prevent gold spammers from finding your name… just after server speculation posts showed up.

Most of my time played was on the Scourge PVP server. When I started the game shortly after launch there was a rumored 700k subscribers. What I can verify is that there were plenty of people to play with. If a zone gets over a certain amount of people a new version, or instance, pops up. So over population in an outdoor map is non-existent.

Today you will rarely find a new instance pop up outside of Tortage. At level 80 I fight the same handful of people every time I decide to log in"

Just registered to warn people about a scam Funcom is brewing up. here are 2 images, one of my credit card statement, and the other of my aoc account details.

As you can see, I cancelled about 4 days before my renew date (i've read about how they charge people for cancelling the day before). So my renew date is on the 27th, I cancelled on the 23rd, and they charge my card on the 21st? There is absolutely no reason to charge my card almost a week before my renew date. So I call my credit card company to complain and they basically said they couldn't do anything about it because they charged me before I cancelled. I also checked my statement a couple days after I cancelled to make sure and I did not see a sub charge, only recently did it appear. I'm guessing once funcom knew I wasn't coming back they decided to put a charge a couple days before my cancellation date so I couldn't get my money back. Just wanted to warn everyone. And yes, my account is still frozen.

Could always go there for help. Be nice if folks empowered this service a little more. Then again, the company isn't under any obligation to respond.

Never better late.

I disagree about pointing the finger at testers. New game releases are on the horizon and as they approach, we'll see if the reaction of the MMO community towards AOC is acknowledged by game developers, management & gaming review writers.

Hopefully, the Funcom/AOC model is studied and the philosophy of this genre's Company practices change.
