Those of us that enjoyed UO while it was still an incredible free world, will never forget it.

But EA will never bring that back.

Like the previous poster said, UO died in 2000, when Lord British and team left, and EA put their minions in charge to try to copy EQ and completely change the game.

I agree. Nothing will bring back the UO experience from 1997 to 2000. Bad design choices and expansions brought that to an end. You also can't have a Ultima without Lord British. UO is Ultima in name only now days. I wouldn't be surprised if the rumour is true. First the failure of Kingdom reborn. EA won't be happy about that after funding it. Following that the latest expansion just fallen quiet. Yet more funding wasted. I guess only time will tell, but it wouldn't surprise me at the least if this rumour is true.  Unless EA have plans for a new server that's just the new client with a new free to play, but micro payment system from things. As a free to play UO will find a place to thrive.

The graphics could be better and it may be something they plan to get around to, but they inherited a plethora of bugs, bad game mechanics and half-finished features.

So far I don't think they can be faulted on their approach to development.

I agree. The current dev team is the best thing to ever happen to this game. Istaria is a great little MMO at it's core.

VG is improving, but it will have tough time going head to head with Aion later this year.

The character doesnt reveal much, but the place looks interesting enough. Thanks for sharing. ^^

It reveals that the character models will be a lot more like EQ2's.

Funcom PR team trying their best to bend the truths still I see. Funcom know they released AOC at a time when players were getting burnt out with their current MMO's and AOC was the only choice for the summer for a new MMO. Do you really think AOC would have sold like it did if  StarGate Worlds, Aion and War were released around the same time? AOC will be the loser out of the MMO's released this year, just you wait and see.

There aren't any real numbers on the list.  For all we know Spore sold 1 million copies and AoC sold 100 boxes while the other eight titles sold under 100 copies.  That would still put AoC at number two...

A clear example of how stats can be manipulated.

Still, I'm guessing AoC sold a good amount but you really need to take PC sales numbers with a grain of salt.  They don't have console game numbers.  On the other hand, I have to say AoC might not be doing as well as they want considering they are only one ranking above WoW which has been around for over three years.

Hard to interpret the list when there are no concrete sales figures.

WRONG! Try again. PC gaming accounts for 60% of the gaming industry. Previous to this year Pc gaming only had it's retail sales counted. Just this year they did another recount in the gaming industry. This time for the Pc including online digital downloads and MMO subs as well as shop retail sales and the results showed Pc gaming amounted to 60% of the market. There are over 236 million online Pc gamers. The so called end of the Pc you hear each time a new generation of consoles hits is nothing more than the console companies PR teams springing in to action, only different now days is they tend to use the viral marketing approach which results in misinformed people like your self falling for it.

Planetside was before it's time. Pc hardware has advanced, and broadband has become common place in homes. Making a game like battlefield 2, but on the scale of PS is now possible. With Hit detection, dynamic battlefields, a PVE element added to some areas. Just take a look at how popular COD4 has become online with it's battles and character development. Add that to the scale of PS and it would be a winner. It can adopt the Free to play approach, but has a micro payment system for add perks to your character. The time is ripe for a MMOFPS like that. Huxley doesnt' seem to be it. Seem far to instanced.

I'm tempted to have a look again. It's sure has been awhile. SOE should take a look at putting Planetside on the Playstation 3 online service. Let PC and PS3 owners battle it out, or play along side each other. Since PS3 lets games use mouse and keyboard if the developer wishes to enable it for their PS3 games.

Most will. It's next generation. It will make COH look and feel dated. That fact combat is real time is a big plus for a super hero MMO. The old owners of th COH IP wouldn't have given  it up  unless they knew they had a next gen product that what leaps forward from the first attemps of a Super Hero MMO.

Yeah I'd say Istaria is down with it. It just needs a touch up here and there.

What this game really needs is the client to be updated to be able to do directX 9 graphics. Water, trees and grass textures in DirextX 8.1 don't cut it no more. The new tweaks to the mountain terrain is fine, but the water ,trees and grass textures really need to be done in dx9 and the game world will look pretty nice.

I found the best way to make this game fun is to close your account and wait for JumpGate Evolution.

Don't bother. Eve at the end of the day is just a spread sheet in space with a dull turn based combat system. If you crave a Space MMO that properly captures the great Wing Commander series and the more recent Freelancer with a real time twitch combat system then wait for JumpGate Evolution that's coming out later this year. If a spread sheet in space with a a very slow turn based combat system is your idea of Space MMO then by all means give Eve a try.

Do yourself a favor and wait for JumpGate Evolution instead. The proper Space MMO that gives you the feel of Wing Commander and Freelancer. Eve at the end of the day is just one dull spread sheet in space wth the most boring of turn based combat systems.  JumpGate evolution out later this year and beta sign up are open now.

No thanks. I'd rather wait for JumpGate Evolution. A Space MMO that properly captures the feel of the classic Wing Commander series and not some dull spread sheet in space with a very boring turn based combat system that is Eve online.

I wouldn't worry since most potential new players drawn to a the idea of a Space MMO will be waiting for Jumpgate evolution instead. The dev team have already stated EVE was an attempt to capture feel of the Wing commender and Wing commender Privateer games and make a MMO out of it, and in doing so CCP pretty much missed the mark and ended up creating a spread sheet in space instead. JumpGate is the game to bring you that proper Wing Commander feel to a MMO and not just some dull spread sheet in space with boring turn based combat system.

Just as well. It would have flopped anyway in the current MMO market.

When Vanguard came out I have actually played it till my free month was over, AoC I have canceled (and never logged back in) after 3 weeks.

you know god doesnt like liars because that is so far fetched that i nearly pooped my pants. Vanguard wasnt even playable and yet you claim you played till month was over. HA its funny how people come in here to diss AoC. I see the problem with AoC and its a problem that will be fixed. Not much to do when you get to level 47ish and you have to grind. Which unfortunetly not many people like to do witht he combat system of AoC. This game is defenitly not grind friendly. to much work to get barely anything will make anyone go mad so i understand why you quit but dont say you played vanguard for 30days. thats just retarded. the only way you played this game would of been to have logged in every patch day to see if they fixed somthing and you realized they didnt. and logged back off.

An entity that only exists in your imagination can't have an opinion on peoples actions. It's about time irrational deluded people like you realized this.

You couldn't get any further away from a sandbox MMO than you can playing AOC. It's a very linear, and  very unsand box as a MMO. Don't waste your money. Give VG a go if you've not tried it. It's last update really turned things around. It's now the best next gen sand box MMO out there.

What a load of misinformation yet again from Funcom PR trying to BS people.  A company that's retaining 700k active accounts after its first month of going retail would not have their shares prices devalue to half of what it was a month age if AOC was sustaining accounts sub numbers in to the second month. There's a mass exodus of those 700k accounts created with retail keys not translating in to subs and Funcom know it! This shallow linear POS should head straight to the console kiddie playground for which it was developed.
