Ok so me and this one friend I play with got in his truck and spent 5 hours looking through every house in Ranchito and then Cranberry, pretty much oppisite sides of the map. We saw no one except eachother that entire time.

Our total ammunition counts:

331 pistol rounds

110 shotgun shells

75 hunting rifle rounds

50 AR rounds

You read that right, 5 hours on an empty server we got 50 fucking rounds for the AR.

Also note that this was not after a server reset and this doesnt count the ammuntion that we already had on our characters, which was only about 50 pistol rounds.

Good luck finding ammunition in H1Z1, you will need it.

Yeah I am not seeing the problem here. It took me 2 days of searching every building I came across to find a backpack. As for ammo, its supposed to be rare and used less. You can convert ammo from one type to any other type so take what you find and convert to what you need. Bows are supposed to be the main weapon in this game because its the only weapon with an UNLIMITED supply of ammo. This isnt call of duty, its a zombie/survival game.  Frankly I think there is way to much stuff in the world as it is. I already have enough food, metal, wood, cloth and so on, that if I did nothing at all but just logged in and sat in my base that I could survive for months without stepping foot outside of my base. Frankly the survival part is just way to easy as it is.

But the last 10 years have been full of soulless titles and wasted potential. Talented devs that understand the genre driven by passion, rather than publishers, is what made MMOs great at the start and what will make them great again.

Hard to imagine a more souless game than eq1, grinding same monsters for hours in hope to find some epic to prove your epeen. You can dream all you want but those days are over and no quality mmo will use the eq1 recipe ever again, at best you will get some B class mmo with second class graphics, animations, repetitive music and lot of npcs to grind on - should make "old school" players happy.Mark Jacobs like other old school mmo creators was not capable of creating another successful mmo, Warhammer had awful animations, awful pve and awful pvp after tier 2.

LOL EQ a more soul less game?

Show me a game that has released since EQ that actually made you afraid? Every game has its own faults, camping was both bad and great at the same time. Sure you fought the same mobs over and over again but you had time to actually talk to the people you were grouped with and actually make some lasting online friendships outside of being in some guild that just wants to dominate the server.

With EQs faults, it has many more positives. No other game has truely matched the distinctiveness in zones that EQ had. Its world was massive compared to todays worlds. You actually had to learn your class and play well instead of just mashing buttons like people do in todays games. You were forced to make actual choices and suffer the wrath or victory of those choices. The game was not on easy mode like todays games are. There were always creatures in every zone that were higher level then the rest and they roamed around to keep you on your toes. Yes EQ had faults, but I made more random non guild friends in that game than I have in EVERY single game made since then. Show me another game were death actually means anything at all (outside of full loot pvp). The death system in EQ was harsh but it served multiple purposes. It kept you on your toes, it made you think before just running into a fight. It made you fear not only death but actually being able to find your body again. I look at todays mmos and if I had to compare them to anything, I would compare them to todays mindless smart phone games. Fun for short bursts but ultimately useless.

Your problem isnt with the price. Your problem is with the style of game it is. You want instant gratification of an mmo and AO is old school in that you have to earn it. Its not a mamby pamby mmo like todays mmos are, Your decision should be if your willing to stick with earning your fun or having it handed to you on a platter.

Anyone who has played AO for 12 years obviously doesn't want things handed to them and is used to grind.

I can't believe you said that. lol

Anyway, what I said was..I need to be able to login and have fun.. other wise whats the point of loggin in?

If the world is empty monday-thursday, 70% of the day.....I'm logging in and spending hours waiting or trying to get a team or whatever.

I spend more time qued for Battle station then actually doing it. And 4 out of 10 times I get into battle station and it's broken. .i have to logout to leave, then I reque and have to wait again.

If I feel like I want to do some inferno missions and I login, spend 1 hour on LFT while spaming OOC's that i'm looking for team. Then get a team and spend another 10 minutes waiting for the team to be filled.. then 3 more minutes for the roller to roll the mission....run to the cave/ergo and enter the mission.... spend 1-3 minutes where people buff up and get ready... its not uncommon for someone to take a few minutes to get to the mission.

So then it starts and lets say about 20-40 minutes later you got to the end of the mission and got the reward..... often times 1-3 people leave and you have to replace them which could require more waiting around.

But the funny thing is it can take an hour and a half to even start the mission that takes 30 minutes to complete.

And I have done so many Inferno Missions over the Years, all the brown in there puts me to sleep or gives me a headache as soon as i enter.

You cant believe? Are we supposed to know you have played the game for 12 years? Your posts read as I want gratification now, you know, like the wow generation. Im pretty sure you already answered your own question though. If you spend more time searching for group then actually playing then no you arent getting the enjoyment you want and you should unsubscribe, It wouldnt matter if the price is $15 or $10 or even $5 a month, if your here complaining about it, its not worth it.

That isn't a question you can ask other people, only a question you can ask yourself. If it's a timesink that you actually enjoy then I would say yeah go ahead and do it. But if it's something you don't think you will end up actually playing, then why waste money.

I'm not really asking others to decide for me, It's something I have to decide. I want to voice my opinion that Anarchy Online/Funcom should lower their subscription price.

Maybe if it was 9.99 they would make more money. Maybe people on the fence would have a reason to resub or to sub multiple accounts.

Anarchy Online is a great game, but it takes a lot of time and effort. And if the game is unplayable 70% of the day/week and I only have a small window of time to login and get teams for stuff, it's really hard to justify paying.

I'm finding it hard to justify the 14.99, especially when there are so many free to play and buy to play games out there. Games I can walk away from or take small-large breaks from and not feel bad about it.

I really want to play AO but can't afford to be paying 14.99 on the monthly basis when I spend so much time not having fun and I don't want to take the leap of faith and pay $95 for a year.

I might just spend that 14.99 on H1Z1 or something.

These days I need a game that I can login and get things done...LIke if it's 12:30am or 12:30pm and I feel like I want to do something specific in a game.. I need to be able to just login and get it done. With AO it seems like I need to look at the clock and the calendar to see if it's even worth logging in.

Maybe if we could have subscription for weekends only at a low price it would be worth it, because the only time the game is really active is on the weekends.

I started playing coh in beta and loved it. When they made changes that last day from beta to live it really pissed me off. I still loved the game for the most part though. My biggest issue with it and cov was level 40 and above. You spent 39 levels feeling like a bad ass hero or a bad ass villain then when you hit 40 the power curve jumped dramatically for the npcs which took you from feeling like a super hero/villain to just a plain ordinary joe. In many ways it reminded me of the hell levels in EQ1 except you where in hell for 10 levels straight. If they came back and fixed that glaring issue I would certainly go back to the game. Regardless of that problem, it was the best super hero game ever made and I do hope it comes back in some form.

In PVE it has to be EQ. I had soooo many Oh Sh*T moments in that game. Most of them in unrest or sol A&B. My utmost favorite survival story was from unrest, a full group, we were fighting trash mobs and pulling from the house. We got into a 30 minute battle with several groups trains kept getting dropped off onto us. All clerics OOM and meditating trying to get off the life saving heals. Trash mobs kept jumping into the fight ever time one of us clerics sat down to to meditate. It was the battle of the century and we won! No deaths on our side and at least 50+ mobs killed in one continues 30 minute battle. Here Here to the Dwarven Wrecking Crew!

PVP it would have to be WOW. I was pretty dang proud of my hunter winning when getting ganked by a rogue.  Many proud moments all around when pretty much everyone knew the sweet spot to keep a hunter from being able to hit them and still come out victorious.

Just think if Brad had the money to hire all those EQ devs. Pantheon would  end up being the EQ successor.  Man, why does he have to suck so much managing a companies finances. If you could get all those guys together, they would make a killer game!
Its not going to change a thing. My understanding is that smed will still be there running things. If thats the case, then they are still going to be a mediocre gaming company at best. SOE hasnt been a leader in the mmo world in years but if they get rid of smed then maybe, just maybe, they can regain that title.

I have had serious issues with the game crashing. First start of the game it crashed after character creation when it was zooming down on my character in the room with a display driver stopped responding. Updated my video driver to 1 level below the newest driver and the next 1.5 hours had 5 crashes with DX errors at random places. Updated again to the newest driver (nvidia drivers) and played for 3 or 4 hours with only 2 crashes but these crashes gave no errors. Game froze for 30 seconds and just closed.

I havent experienced to many stutter problems, frame rate issues at times, appear to be dropping into the 20's. I have to agree with that metacritic score of around 5. the crashing issues aside, on PC this game has issues. Looting absolutely sucks. The lag from starting to move to stopping your character can be frustrating. How this article could ever say that this game was good on the pc, I will never understand. The controls are so obviously ported from a console game! Just look at when you call your horse out. Why does the horse always go past you and you have to move and walk up to it to mount it. You should never have to do that in a video game. I cant think of single game that has ever done that. The quest tracking is awkward and cumbersome to go through, The camera is a pain in the butt when you are near trees, makes it almost impossible to see whats going on. So then you have to move your character which can take several seconds due to the starting and stopping animations of your character. Graphically it looks very nice, the shiny armor is way over the top but that really doesnt bother me so much. Its the little things like when you go into a conversation with someone, the person you are talking to is quieter than the rest of the game and often times their voice will only come out of 1 speaker, depending on which side of you the camera shifts to. Does that with headphones or on regular speakers.

So far I have to say I am not loving this version. Crashes aside, it feels like a very unpolished console port.

1. EQ 1 cleric.  30 minute continuous trash mob fight in unrest and entire party survived. was the most fun ever and solidified my love for healing!

2. Eq 2 reactive healing was a lot of fun

3. COH a group of rad/rad characters was a ton of fun

4.WoW shaman was extremely fun to play

5.FFXIV. Loved playing healer in that game.

My problem with pretty much all games after EQ 1 was that the combat speed just keeps getting faster and faster and you cant enjoy the fights themselves. Just a single glance away from health bars and people dies.

As for most fun right now is probably FFXIV. Not just as a healer but in that you can be pretty much all classes with just 1 character.

Sadly its not "growing up". If anything it is growing sideways. The mmo genre is not as it once was which was creating a game that the creators wanted to play. It is now about creating a game that will try to bring in the most money. Its obvious when you look at the game play, no real grouping of any kind, stop, group up to take out a big mob then see ya. The mmo genre cant even call itself mmos anymore. They are nothing more than single player rpgs that require an internet connection to run and lets you see others playing their version of their single player rpg at  the same time.

They have lost their focus of true co-op fantasy gaming to nothing more than plain greed. Sad but true. The genre is leaving behind the old guard, as you say, but its not for the better of gaming, its for greed only now and that just saddens me. We still have the small indie groups trying to make good games but compared to the AAA gaming companies, the difference in quality is like comparing a prius to a corvette. They just dont have the knowledge or talent to pull it off on such a small budget.

HAHA! Sadly most of the mmo gamers of today wouldn't even begin to get this reference. Its all about instant gratification nowadays.

I want one thing. FEAR! I want to fear for my character. I want zones you have to carefully walk through as to not get killed. No more linear zones. I want to have to watch my back for that level 40 creatures walking around in a level 20ish area. I could care less about pvp. If I want to stroke my e-peen, I will go play an fps game. I want to explore again and most of all, I want to be afraid while doing it. Until they bring back fear into the mmo, Its just going to be the same re-hash of every other crappy mmo that is out there.

A lot is wrong with this:

Fear for a cartoon character? That's a little over the top. Most people have more important things in their lives that whatever happens in a game doesn't matter. The problem with that concept you define is that it will only define gated paths instead of zones. This is not really innovation and most good players won't even see it like you do. The problem after that point also is that once a character reaches level 40, the whole design becomes pointless. A lot of effort for a balanced zone that only lasts for 40 levels, not at all worth trying even.

When you get something of value in your life, you will understand there is no such thing as fear in a game. I played TF2 last night, as pyro, I was the only one able to reach enemy zones  because I do not care about dying. I have the same attitude in MMOs. Perma-death would be nice, except I can just start a new character and not lose my knowledge of the areas. I could just team up with someone, say my gf and build ourselves so we never die. We've done it before and with perma-death, it would be designed to either progress fast or have near-invincible team builds, so it would be obvious from the start. But then, only very few people would make it to max level and we'd play on ghost servers after a very short time.

Wow, there is a lot wrong with yours as well. I mean, you played TF2 and won. good for you to win a fps game. Good for you on dieing over and over again in an fps game! Thats exactly how kids today play mmos as well. No respect for the character they create. Lets just rush the boss, who cares if we die 100 times. There is no penalty for it, so no need to be afraid of it. Just like an fps game. Thanks for helping to prove my point even further on how badly fear needs to be brought back into the mmo genre.

Oh and for your information, I have been married over 25 years and have a wonderful teenage daughter that I value more than anything, But thank you for trying to troll me when the conversation is about Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Games and not about what you have or dont have in real life.

If you really had a child, you'd not even care about what happens to your characters in game. What's the worse that can happen? Your character is perma-dead and you get to spend time with your family? Gee, what a "punishment". A videogame character is the most superfluous thing there is. Placing value in it is as sad as those who spend 60 hours a week playing an auction house trying to get rich in a game... instead of opening a business and getting rich in real life.

Not to mention that the terms of use specifically say that your characters are not even yours, so respecting something that is rented and disposable is like respecting toilet paper.

LOL, if I really had a child... You are on an mmorpg forum, the discussion is about what do mmo players want in an mmo and yet you feel you must try to continue to attack me personally. If you want to actually discuss the topic on hand, try again and do it without the attacks on someones character. Until then, I will just ignore any remaining comments from you.

If you're defending him, you might as well just admit that you find that type of behavior to be completely acceptable. Essentially that is what you are saying, in not so many words.

It's not your place to defend this man, and you're too ignorant to even understand why.

LOL, Smedly is just as much a thief (in a non money way) and a liar yet people are starting to swoon at him over EQN. We know the facts on smedly, we only have rumors on brad.

Are you fucking serious?

This is the asshole who blew millions on the epic failure known as Vanguard.

If anybody gives this guy money again, they are completely daft.

Before you say "VANGUARD WAS GOOD".

No. I played it from release. I played it beta, post beta, etc.

The game was a development disaster.

Thats really odd. Me and my group of friends played it from beta and loved it. Did it have problems? Sure. But the real tragedy didnt happen to vanguard till microsoft got it.  Sure they fixed things here and there but they did far worse to it by trying to dumb down the game and make it into a wow clone. Just like they have done to almost all of their games. Is Brad a saint? Hell no. I do think the man has got vision though. I think in the right setting with the right structure, he could produce a hell of a game.

Remember EQ2? When it first came out it ran like crap even on high end pcs. It had tons of bugs and problems and had the resources of sony behind it. Vanguard was certainly not a development disaster. Even during beta of vanguard, I was able to run the game on pretty high settings with little problems. I could not do that when eq2 came out. It ran like crap when I turned on high settings compared to vanguard. The only real issues I ever had with vanguard was at zone lines. Getting knocked off my flying mount when crossing and the few seconds after entering a zone.

I would most certainly play a game that brad makes long before I would even think about playing a game smed was in charge of.

I still dont see how anyone can consider guild wars 1 an mmo. The only massive thing in that game was its massive failure as an supposed mmo. It was at its best a multi player game with online play. Dont get me wrong, I loved the story in that game and the game was fun, But look at the game itself.  No open world at all. Only towns that multiple people could be in. If someone in your group got disconnected, they could not rejoin your party in the instance you were in, you would have to go back to town to get them and then you would basically have to start over and redo everything you had just done . Every single time you left a town, the exact same scripted triggers happened regardless of level/group just as you would see in a single player game. GW2 beats it hands down as an mmo.

The OP had it right though, SOE is by a far margin, in that number 1 slot. Until they get rid of smed, they will never be back in contention as a top mmo company. No company has ever came close to the debacle that was swg nge. The topic isnt worst game company, if it were, I would agree that EA would be the top but for MMOs, nobody comes close to that number 1 worst slot then soe.

I have been playing since rerelease and havent seen this issue either. Its possible that it is on their end but its just as possible it is on your end as well. Several years ago I had an mmo that I could log in and would immediately get disconnected. I had several other ones that worked perfectly fine so I was convinced it was on their end. Its possible it was but it turned out that the game didnt like my network card driver. I had to revert to a much older version and then it played fine. So again, it might be them but considering the sheer amount of people that play without this problem, It is more possible that its something with your setup. Good luck on fixing it, I know how frustrating those problems can be.
I have always said that pvp in mmos need to have serious consequences and no mmo has ever come close to giving a true ffa experience. Look at archeage, You can kill lots of people and take peoples crops and if the person gets killed, he will face a jury of his peers that can sentence them to jail time. The max time I have seen for anyone to get is like 30 minutes. Oh look, I can stand in jail and go eat and come back and play again. What consequence is that? You want a real ffa system, it needs real consequences. Killing and stealing need far harsher sentences. We are talking hours/days/weeks of jail time depending on the crimes. That would get rid of most of the trolls that are only there to ruin others enjoyment of the game.
