That might be the problem with Darkfall.  How long has this piece of vaporware been in production?  Most of a decade??  This game will either never come out, or already be obsolete and irrelevant when it does.  Really, it only takes a handful of dudes to efficiently "develop" a game that is never coming out anyway.

Well if you thought for 1 second about the actual size of the world, and how much content they are putting in for it to pack it, And the fact that between 2000 and 2008, Has had the BIGGEST boom in graphical improvement, so they had to upgrade there engine time and time again. Also, oh yeah the size? 12 hours from one coast to the other on the fastest mount! on foot it would be a little more than a day. And that is just 1 sector of the would as it is much more than a straight line, they had to fill all of this with as much quality content as possible, This is one hell of an achievement if they get it together along with the features promised. I am no fanboi "yet" but you gotta respect the guys behind this project, they went in with virtually 0 experience and they learned the ropes as they went, and now they can be considered experienced game developes with this 8 years. Also it is looking really good now, so it is a possibility it will see the light of beta this year. Seeing how they are currently in a private closed beta right now fyi.

You have to be smoking some powerful shit to believe amateur programmers that "learned the ropes as they went" can produce a quality mmo of the magnitude they are describing.

"There's a video coming out, most probably next week, or shortly after."

I'm sorry, but to anyone with a bit of common sense, this is virtually a guarantee that you will NOT be seeing the video in August.

LOL

I wonder how long it took for them to come up with this gem of a pre-emptive excuse making.

Think about it.

You are delusional if you think internet forums are powerful enough to "destroy" games.

The amount of false and unwarranted bullshit being spread about WoW is MAGNITUDES more than that of AoC, but 10+ million subscribers speak for themselves.

Case in point, if your game is truly fun and polished enough, no amount of negative propaganda and false information will bring it down because they will be swamped by the positive words-of-mouth that are deservingly spread.

Anyone is delusional if they do not believe forums make and break games.  You being on these forums is proof.  How do you learn about games?  Get info about new games?  Forums.

Has it ever occurred to you that AoC actually deserved all the shitstorm that unhappy customers unleashed on it?

And therein lies the downfall of game population.  The bandwagon.  It's like a domino effect.  5 people say the game is shit and post about it.  200 people read that post and are persuaded by it.  I have seen numerous players dissuaded to play a game because of one persons "review" of it.  If someone doesn't like that game, fine.  You are more then welcome to your opinion.  But do not start imposing that opinion on other people.

For example the other day, in the forums, someone stated the have played the game for 2 minutes.  Hated the controls and posted a thread warning others to stay away from the game because it sucked.  Now where is the sense in that?

Get this through to your head.

If your game isn't a pile of shit and truly deserves praise, the positive posts will always outnumber the negative posts by a large margin, on ANY credible, moderated forum.

Compare that to the WOW problems when they had too many players and their servers were swamped.  The devs went out of their way to admit and fix the problems.  They stopped shipping retail boxes until the problem was fixed.  They apologized A LOT!!!   All you hear from Funcom is " we had the best launch ever!!".

This part needs to be emphasized and driven into the heads of the fanboys who continue to spit out crap like "WoW was horrible during its first year too!".

Okay, three months.

Thats 90 days. All MMORPGs have their growing pains, 3 months is nothing.

You can't look at WoW and just say "I want my game to be that polished out of the gate." I've seen plenty of threads where folks talked about how bad WoW was during its first year.

I can totally understand that there are people who don't like AoC. But posting another  thread about the "End" of a major MMORPG after only 3 months seems excessive.

No.

The only people talking about how bad WoW was during its first year are the ones who lack the intellectual capacity to understand the difference between "server issues due to massive unexpected popularity" and "extremely buggy, unpolished client". Coincidentally, these are the same people who are in denial of the sad state AoC is currently in.

It's a little too late to be clarifying that the Fury server note was from more than a month ago when just about every non-fanboy here had already found out how you tried to intentionally mis-present it as "recent".

No. AoC had just been released a 2 and a half month ago. Data from more than a month ago is not "recent" in the time scale people are concerned with here.

Guess who will be the first fanboy to jump in this thread and claim "god, it's just $15, if you $15 is such a big deal to you it's time to get a job".

Preying on the human nature to be lazy and not give a shit about chump change is exactly what many unethical business practices thrive on.

I agree, it's high time they started putting out more videos/screenshots. Or maybe the August one will be so amazing it'll be enough, who knows. Point is though, pretty much everything they said they would show, they have shown, or are showing soon.

qft

First off, Xxeon needs to get his account suspended for terrible grammar and no sentence structure. Seriously it makes me die a little more inside everytime I have to read what he says.

Anyways, its not that we disagree as much as them not showing things they said they'd show, its we are asking for more and they haven't done it for YEARS. And that questions us to wonder why can't they make a video in a couple months time? People are saying you want them to work on the game, not a stupid video? You will just buy this game blindly without real indication of what they have to offer? Well you go ahead, but I want a solid video with some recent and extensive in game footage. Having ONE guy take the day off to work on a video will not hurt your game, go over yourself.

What in the past several years have they done to make you think that they have ANY CLUE AT ALL what proper customer relations and marketing is about?

Since in general its best to assume the worst and hope for the best.  And the worst is a gigantic vortex of hype funneled from the party line of a PR department I think I will take a pass.

I'm still not sure you understand the program.  You would not be reading a correspondents article typically unless you were already a happy player of whatever game they are writing about.  This material will be to help existing players - not to create new ones or sway opinions.  For most of these articles there will not be room to give opinions, I mean how do you do that in a class guide or spell/ability list?

To be honest the first 5 articles are not 100% the content I was hoping for.  But this program is brand new and we are going to mold it as it goes - I really want to see more hard resources for players like crafting guides, class guides, spell lists, dungeon tips and tricks, etc.

I think what most people here are looking for is for the admins to acknowledge that what Avery posted about the Fury server is inappropriate and counter-productive to what the correspondant program is trying to accomplish and that actions (such as a warning) has been taken.

So there we have it.

The bona fide fanboy on these boards copy/pasting another post on another board from over a month ago. Obviously he's trying to pass it off as a recent occurrence as he made no clarifications to the date of the post hoping nobody would notice it when they click on the link he provided.

Disappointing. I always thought people would put more effort into their last ditch efforts.

HOWEVER, I don't believe the non-existant PVP that took in the area of a year to fix was a luxury item or sever issues from massive popularity. It was virtually non existant and it was not initially implemented well. I also HATED waiting in queues for Raid events for hours and that was well after the first year of WOW launch. There was plenty wrong with WOW when it launched, some zones were broken, there were broken quest lines and tweaks happening constantly to fix things plus what I mentioned above.

WoW was never advertised as a PvP game so I don't see why Blizzard was obligated to have a PvP system implemented at launch.

Waited in queues for Raid events? wtf are you talking about?

Funcom charges you $2.99 to download the game if you don't have access to the discs.

It will cost you $2.99 if you don't know anyone that can give you a disc to install the game.

In a post earlier, sombody mentioned that Funcom may start blaming people for bad PR, and I tell you what I agree with them!!!

Its the community/players that make a game work.

Here is a prediction for you all - There will never be a great new groundbreaking MMORPG game, people will always be unhappy with whatever is released, as its not like what you currently play - a 2-5year established game!!

Launches of all games for the first few months are terrible, but I would guess 99% of the people moaning never experienced a game release, or it was so far back when they did, there was nothing to compare it to - so wouldnt know if it was good/bad.

Just think, it wont be long until you can start flaming WAR

I'm sorry, but blaming the community/playerbase for the failures instead of the utter incompetence of the devs is the last ditch effort for fanboys defending their game.

When a game reaches this point in JUST TWO MONTHS, you know it's beyond hope that this game will ever recover.

AOC is an ok game, it just isn't a very good MMORPG.  It plays like a console single player game with others online at the same time.  The overly simplistic combat mechanics make it feel like a beer and pretzel game rather than a real MMORPG and it has just enough content to be fun leveling up one time to max level.

Ironic isn't it.

One of the most hyped feature about AoC was its "innovative, complex combat system".

You know.... After the first week WoW was released, it already had more subs than any other mmorpg. It had crushed EQ2, which many said would win over WoW like a 100 ton tank vs a wall of paper.

WoW was gorgeous and great in closed beta and already there more polished than pretty much all other mmorpgs. The only reason people whined was because they had to whine about something, it was luxury things they whined about, also the reason people today aren't tolerant to bugs and such, which was totally normal back before WoW.

After WoW, gamers want they are treated as gods or kings and only need the finest and the best. Great and bad for Blizzard on the same time.

Well, you better brace yourself for the onslaught of fanboys who lack the intellectual capacity to differentiate between "server issues from massive unexpected popularity" and "a buggy, unfinished client".
