The game in general has had excellent reviews and scores for a newly released mmo, which are notorious in the industry for piss poor ratings. Lets do what all should have dome with the game and wait and see. Else we could all end up looking like the fools who predicted AoC would bomb at release.

Imo the game is decent it has problems but they all do its intrinsic to the genre, but from my point of view it has infinitely more going for it than WoW ever did with the exception of system requirements.

The only thing AoC is beating WoW at release is the initial launch number, and that's mainly because WoW increased the mmo playerbase 10-fold.

Try real stores in real life.

Just went past a random EB today. Shelf behind the counter is full of AoC boxes.

Went on a search in Melbourne for a copy of the game, was all sold out

they had age of conan boxes there too - they put them up so people could reorder them /shrug - did you even bother to ask if the game was in stock?

ive seen ebgames do it with a few other titles - put the boxes out to attract sales, and on the shelf under pre-order.

Nice try.

But no, they were real boxes with the game in them.

There are still a lot of people waiting for their game to arrive from online orders, some bought the game but are awaiting the activation for various reasons: rig upgrade, problems installing/patching the game, away for the weekend (EU release was 23/5), students have exams, ..  you name it.

I am having a hard time to find online retailers that has the game in stock. I think they have practically sold out the first 700.000 copies

400,000 boxes sold is awesome. Just for reference, last year the NPD top selling PC games had a a SIMS expansion sitting in at #10 with 250,000 boxes sold. Good news for Funcom and the MMO industry.

They have their clever marketing team and WoW to thank for that.

Technically everyone who bought the box is currently a subscriber. They won't have to subtract those already cancelled until the 30 free days are up.

Well its 400,000 boxes sold, we'll need to wait atleast a month too see how my subscribers they have.  So this is some nice marketing but is misleading.

400,000 is impressive though.

Alot of things they've done indicates fairly clearly that their #1 priority now is to milk the box sales of the 300,000 copies left in stores.

They do have a good marketing team, credit where credit is due.

Are you seriously that delusional?

Here's a fun fact for you, NONE of my friends, including me, had ever heard of Xfire until I saw it mentioned here and asked them about it.

Word on the official forum is that the max is 50 per instance. Nobody has tried to refute that in the official forums yet.

If the max is indeed more than 50, I imagine people on the official forums would jump all over it instantly and shoot it down. So I'm guessing it could be true.

It is also interesting to note that prior to the release of the game, people were swearing left and right that the game "opens up" after lvl20 and there is MINIMAL instancing.

Now most of them are saying "I am grateful for instances! Crowd control is one of the things Funcom has done right."

Wish these people could make up their mind.

seriously though if you have problems then wait a week or two and they should have ironed out most of the bugs.  every game has these problems at launch but after a week or two the majority of people are fine.

Talking strictly about after launch here.

Name another mildly successful MMO that blocked the forums from public viewing (not posting) after launch.

I will, however, agree that the official forums are horrible.  Worse than WoW, even.  And that's bad!  I only go there if I am looking for something specific and then I run away as soon as I find it.  A person makes one criticism and the people over there pounce.  Although thing's are much better in the game and the forums reflect that, there are a lot of people still having issues, both in game and with their accounts.  It doesn't seem to be a small number of people with problems, either.  Funcom fails at customer support, in my opinion.  They've made some bad decisions regarding business practices, too.  That doesn't, however, detract from the fact that they've put together a good, fun game.  I'm glad I can play it but I recognise that there are a lot of issues and Funcom isn't particularly good at addressing them in the forums.  People get angry when they feel ignored.

Great post. I'm glad there are people who recognize that Funcom made several questionable business decisions even if the game is great itself. Sadly, without viewing access to the official forums, these questionable tactics and the rumored poor customer support really discourages people who are on the fence like me.

Probably leaning more towards trying the game now, they tried hard enough to get my $50 and some of their smart moves should be rewarded.

So that sword I tried to kill myself with I never got repaired, thus it only shattered and here I stand.

You still haven't answered why someone on the fence would care if he actually wrote that himself or if he copied it from another forum.

Good question, and I'm surprised there isn't more people wondering why that is.

If something that isn't currently enabled, the logical and correct thing to do is to disable the selection in the video options to avoid confusions. Unless confusion is exactly what you're trying to cause.

Really? 1 million subscribers?

According to news release they shipped 700,000 for launch. This morning (saturday, 5/24) I passed by my local EB and the shelf behind the counter was still full of AoC boxes. Are you telling me they sold out all 700,000 boxes already and those are the 2nd shipments? In 3 days? Really?

Hmm....

Well then, dont have enough motivation to write our own reviews do we?  Close thread.

Why would anyone care who actually wrote the review if it's well thought out and contains useful information for people still on the fence?

Its a great game, if people were cancelling all over the place why did they just add 9 new servers today?

You need to come back with a realistic argument, because your viewpoint is way skewed.. just like "freeword"..

Another smart move by Funcom if true.

Spread the population thinner to make it harder for people to realize the zones are capped by only 48 people instead of 100 per instance as some poster here pointed out.

most people would agree the above spec is total crap and out of date.

WELL... guess what?

I get 25-40 FPS anywhere in game and the game runs great for me. I personally have no complaints about the game.

BUT... HUGE amounts of people do and the fan boys are playing it down as if it is everyone elses problem and not FunComs.

the truth is "funcom messed up big time."

I'm almost tempted to pay $50 for the game box JUST to read the official forums.

Seems like a riot in there.

People may be having problems, but comparing the two release is absurd and completely asinine.

Blocking the official forums from public viewing should tell you all you need to know.

The ONLY reason a mmo company does that is when they have something to hide and they aren't finished with milking box sales yet.

See: Hellgate London for a very recent example.

Here's another thing you can do (if you have the game)

Go to a post 20 lvl zone and ask everyone to instanced to the beta instance and meet you all in one particular spot.  Thats another way to tell how many people a zone can hold. We did this yesterday. Kinda confirmed our suspicions.

I don't have the game unfortunately. I was enticed by all the hype to try the game out but after the Hellgate/Flagship fiasco I am much less willing to fill the pockets of companies that employ questionable marketing tactics, even if the game turns out to be a good one (I mean AoC, not Hellgate god rest its soul).

48 players max per instance per zone might have done it.

Its nothing like EQ2 zones.  In EQ2 you can support 350 people in one zone. In AoC it can only support 48 people.

Where do you have this number from? The only time I have seen the 48 number is in the number of people each side can bring into a siege (which btw takes place in zones that cannot be instanced).

Are people confusing info?

if you have access to the offical forums its everywhere and people are sorta pissed by it. Just do a forum search,

Here's one of em

forums-us.ageofconan.com/showthread.php

Well that kind of explains why they restricted even forum viewing privileges to people who already bought the box.

Zoning in AoC is really anoying ! Please someone explain me how can this be fun ? I mean, the gameplay will eventually suffers from it.

What about PvP ? You can't even chase someone around without the possibility of him using an easy escape trick... the zoning...

That's true though that the 48 people that guy was referring to is the clan battle and is slightly different... But even there, it's an other point that need to be discussed ! I thought i heard from devs that clan battle would be EPICS...

I don't see how 48 vs 48 will be epic... :
1) Lineage II as much better that this with castle siege.
2) It's almost similar to WoW AV Battleground.
3) Even Eve Online can bring more epic battles in space.

But anyway, this is another matter of discussion...

The guy actually said Funcom and the devs CONFIRMED that each zone will only hold a maximum of 48 players.

So whether you believe him or not, he was NOT referring to the 48 vs 48 battles but the maximum amount of players allowed in each instance of each zone.
