Hey.

I played FFXI since launch and i quit a few months back due to time issues with my new job.

You wont have much trouble finding parties during the lower levels, as FFXI you need to level more then one job.

It will probably get harer through the 30-40s but you should manage, and the game isnt dead yet, i see it still having a few years left in it.

FFXI is one of my favorite MMOs, but things like Gilsellers and botters did ruin it at one point, but that goes with every game.

The three mages you listed are all differnt play styles:

BlackMage: The nuker, gets a lot of party invites and has good end game importance, but is slowly going down because everyone just uses blackmages to beat anything and they are trying to stop that.

WhiteMage: The healer, most needed in parties, and engame, Id say this is the most sagfe choice, but most people dont like to heal.

RedMage: The jack of all trades, pretty fun to play at the beginning and soloing endgame, but ater lvl 41 you become a refreash/buff whore.

Hope this helped!

I love how we are arguing about games....

There really isnt much skill to any game in a sense... Besides quick thinking and quick fingers.

So all those "I want skill based games!" people, go back to halo, leave the MMOs be.

MMOs are fine the way they are.

Tens of millions of people love them the way they are and i think thats enough.

First... MMOs have a certian style to them... which includes levels and armour and all that jazz. Take it away and your making a new genre of game.

Second, it does take 'skill' when you have to plan strategies with a group of people to take down bosses.

Not exactly so.  The reason is because:

1 - People believe the level system is outdated.  Skill-based MMO will still be an MMO, same with level-based MMO, all are still MMO's, just with difference in design.  People are debating whether skill-based MMOs are truely more customizable, the balancing associated with it, and weighing their different opinions, etc.  Won't necessarily be a new genre or anything.

2 - Problem is there still is pretty much no skill in the actual killing of the boss.  People just pile-jump and gang-bang the Boss, and when your health gets low, you scream for medics and the medic clicks F1 to heal you, and that's that.  No leg-slashing to decrease its speed (instead you F2 for "Decrease Agility"), you can't sever its arms to prevent it from smashing you to bits, you just repeatedly click (or just auto-click) at the boss to slowly hack away.

That's MY interpretation of "Skill-based MMO's".

Your info on PvE bosses is highly outdated and innacurate.  Go read an FAQ for some of the higher end bosses in WOW or FFXI.   If you think you just click 1 button over and over again,  you're mistaken.   The skill is in figuring out all the strategies and then performing them flawlessly, since one mistake from anyone usually means a wipe.  After doing it 100 times of course it gets easier, but thats not the point.  Its not easy at 1st.

Exactly, there is very much strategy in MMOs like EQ and FFXI that actually take skill because theres groups of 50 that cant take down a Boss, and a group of 18 with the same armour/lvl that can.

And Saying that thing about being lvl 40 and cant hit a lvl 20 and they will be like superman is stupid....

Its a freakin GAME! your casting spells and killing dragons... how realistic do you want it to be?

And thats why FFXI's crafting was so good.

Some people deticated a lot of time into crafting and it took lots of time and money to max out the craft.

That's a joke too.

You're a Joke.

FFXI is said to have THE BEST crafting system.

.. really ??

I heard from someone who crafted in FFXI and he said it was utterly pointless.

To sell his items, he would have to sell them at 1/5 of material price or something.

Well the economy in the game had gotten really bad at one point and idk how it is anymore since i dont play.

But it was, and if not for the RMT (real money traders) "goldfarmers" it would still be the best.

To the poster above me:

I agree that ALL armour should NOT be crafted, nor should it all be the BEST. But it should definately have its big part in the game, and tahts why i have to keep mentioning FFXIs crafting system. Allthough i dont play it anymore, id love to see more MMOs follow its crafting.

WoW = Mcdonalds

AS it would be in the Food Industry.

Sure it has the most customers, but is the Food good?

but with WoW, they change the highest amount per month, and McDonalds has low prices :)

http://www.mmogchart.com/Chart7.html

I just shows that people on MMORPG.COM are not representattive of what' is being played.

I played about a dozen other MMORPG (or tried to play) and this is my conclusion:

1. Best game play ever (PvP animations and fights are fantastic and miles above anything on the MMORPG market. YOU can really CONTROL your avatar with NO hick-ups lag or "cluncky" reactions.

2. Seamless open worlds - ALL in 3D - with Outland as the incredible high point of open world. You can fly over cities, lakes, forests, mountains and land on ANY point without EVER seeing a loading screen.

3. Game grows on you and the end game is MILES above anything on the market. See point 4.

4. Players at level 70 can rally choose HOW they want to play. No need to  HAVE to follow a line. YOU CHOOSE the game you want to play and STILL get rewarded. be it PvP, PVE dungeons, Raids, Arenas, Professions, solo,...

EVERY Play style is rewarded. And  it's players who decides HOW they play  WOW. No longer you NEED to do something to get good gear. EVERYONE is rewarded accordingly.

Something patch 2.3 in TBC was a real blessing for..

Simply introducing this openess and choice, the game reduces "grind feeling",  Because he can choose the things he likes best. and play according to his moods.

There IS a side effect to this: people tend to play with their mains longer...

62.2% says it all really.

You know nothing about MMOs i see...

Just because it apeals to the masses doesnt make it the best game, nor does it that its played the most.

WoW is the Noob MMO and is comparable to McDonalds in the Resturant industry...

Yes it has a lot of customers, but is it the best food?

WoW is going to die in a few years...

Its nothing Like EQ or UO, dont even kid yourself.

FFXI is said to have THE BEST crafting system.

And id agree.

Its very very simple, yet very very very complex at the same time, and without crafters, there wouldnt be a lot of good gear in the game.

They arnt paying for 10million people...

That is their fantasy number used to atract more MMO noobs.

There servers cant even hold 3million....

They count by anyone who ever made an account as a subscription, so all those free trials that they give out like candy are their numbers.

EQ will be around for another 6 years easy. Because the player base is small, but deticated.

WoW will probly last another 2. BEcause all i here are players getting bored with the game and looking for a new MMO they can conqour in 2 weeks.

15 years to 6 years... hmm.... what game would you want to make in the 'Long Run".

But investors wont see that until WoW dies and EQ is still up and running with 200,000 people. Then maybe they will go back to the Hardcore ways of MMOs.

But until then, we can wait for an EQ fanatic to win the lottery and make there own MMO like that other guy said :)

I played EQ the second year it was out and it still today is my favorite game.

The closest MMO ive played that has rivaled it was Final Fantasy XI

As it was built on community, forcing you to party and making solo play worthless after the early levels.

The Sheer difficulty of taking a character to max level taking 1-2 years where it would only begin the amount of content Endgame would hold.

There was no PvP besides 'Ballista' -A PvP game might you say- this further pushed the community to a positive state of helping eachother then Mindless PvP.

FFXI is one of few MMOs that Take Away xp and can De-level you which makes you actually think through a strategy and having that sense of fear.

Everything that would need to make the Next great MMO has been said, and i hope that SE's new MMO that has been in the works for years now but has little information on it, will be the next Everquest in MMO history.

EDIT: I just read more of these replys and the EQ community could sure make an Awesome MMO, you guys have the Mind Set of True Creative and wonderfull thinking. (We should all get together and learn to code an engine and create the next 'EverQuest' :)
