If you played and loved DAoC, you need no explanation.

If you never played DAoC, no explanation will be good enough.

 

Let me also add if you think WoW pvp is RVR you are in for a shock when you find out there are few stragglers in battle. So don't think it's 1v1. It isnt.

I ll get on the agreeing bandwagon. If you played DAOC you ll know without a doubt how different WOW and WAR are. I remember a friend who played WOW religiously and vowed to play it forever. I said hey come try this out. He comes to my house as i m playing DAOC, i let him make a char and level up but he watched me play a keep take with my Skald.                                                                                                                                                                                             He then says ok teach me how to play the Skald. I show him for a better part of a day, then he takes over, groups up and we were on a Albion romp on classic cluster. We were after a relic which he had no idea about. Anyways within 10 minutes of the first keep take, he says to me, since you re in WAR beta is this anything like WAR. I say yep alot of similarities but some differences, for the better IMO. He then proceeded to play through even up to the RR. He then turns to me nd says i ll be right back. 20 Minutes later he shows me his receipt for WAR pre order and logs onto my comp to cancel his WOW account. Then takes over my comp to play more DAOC lol. Anywyas it won t be lik that for everyone but i think some can get the idea.
 

I have no sympathy for this company or game, thank god a real game thats actually fun is coming out in a month.

Hehe, yes and no. Theres alot about WAR that feels similar to WOW. IMO though WAR is done right. For example, pvp with meaning, gear less dependant, no need to raid for hours to get gear etc. PQs give you a chance to raid without lfg forever. The big one for me is pvp is fun and doesn t feel like a grindfest. Anyways yes theres similarities, but alot of differences as well.

You know i think it is installed. You just need to update it is all. When my wife hit s set up it does a quick check then goes directly to patcher. So i think you re good.

yeah that is exactly what it does, its acting like i cant log in. but what i dont get is the game never installed, just the little patcher that wont let me log in.

i just want to make sure something isnt wrong, i just hope i can install and patch the game in time.

 

Open beta hasn't started yet, why do you think you'd be able to log in?

You're not going to be able to sign in until preview weekend if you got that, otherwise not until Sept. 7th.

I think he s just wondering if he s ready and good to go, not log in and play :)

I think you re good to go. When you ran it to install it took like 5 seconds? I m not sure hehe i wish someone that knew would answer this. As i said i think you re good to go , but not sure :(

Ok first, you installed the game and ran it. Then did it do a small update? After did you try and launch the patcher and after 3 tries did it say, you ve exceeded the numder of attempts in this session, if you forgot your password etc etc etc? If so i think thats all you can do , and wait till probably thursday or so. Curious if this is what is happening to all of you?

It isn't likely that a game like the one you seek is going to be popular in the future. It just doesn't capture enough of the player base. It does play more like a game than a world but that is just the path that MMORPG have taken in general.

I m going to agree yet disagree:) I find yes it plays like a game but i feel while playing it the world is really being effected so the world feel really is there. Not sure if thats just me but i had the same feeling in DAOC. Even more so in WAR though.

Legion does it say you ve exceeded etc etc for this session?

I read a post earlier , someone saying they go to update it and it says you ve exceeded the amout of attempts for this session. If you forgot your password etc. I m guessing it s just because theres nothing to update or the update server isn t even up? I m sure someone else can answer this better because i m not really sure :)

My favorites...

EQ is by far my all time D&D classic MMO. A game that made me feel like I was able to go anywhere and do anything.

DAoC is my all time favorite of PvE and PvP ( RvR ) combination ever created. Probably the best game in regards to amount of fun and entertaining strategy in any PvP game I've ever played. Shadowbane was fun too, but it was riddled with errors and GMs who abused the game.

CoX is my all time superhero game probably cause it's currently the only one available, amazing huh?

My view...

I will not lie and say WAR is going to kill WoW. I will not lie and say everyone will love WAR. WAR is unique in itself and offers something I see as a persistant end game experience that doesn't involve cookie cutter repititious PvE grind. Yes, a lot of the RvR is instanced, but there is a lot of open world RvR as well. So far, my sieging experience has been very enjoyable. I have one serious concern about the game, but will wait until launch to see how it pans out.

WAR isn't going to be a WoW killer and ignore the rabid fanboi spouts of joy. WAR will be WAR and people who really enjoy RvR at it's best will definately enjoy WAR.

You my man are bang on. WAR is rvr at it s finest. If people are worried about instanced rvr don t be theres alot of open world. Its there to please alot of peoples tastes. I personally enjoy alot of the pve as well though, but overall this post is correct.

Wait so you hate them for the very same traits that Mythic is employing and now your game is having people being criticial. People have a right to be cautious, they are with Funcom, and imo should be with warhammer too. I think its more like MJ, and P.Barnett misleading people with their videos, we shall see.

I think it s your last ditch effort to keep AOC afloat, with the constant comparing AOC and WAR crap. NDA remember that, and yes Mythic will drop it soon, or at least before release unlike another company.

An Open Beta is meant as a Demo of the game for customers for the price of reporting bugs. Every single player game has a Demo and the Open Beta is that for mmos. Having only 1 week is not a problem for me because I play 2-3x  more than the average player but for most people it's not enough to know enough to make a smart decision.

It defeats the whole purpose of preordering for those who have limited income and want to be certain before buying a game. We might as well wait for reviews of the game.

Don't take it wrong, I'm sure the game is going to be great but this doesn't change the fact that this is a very bad way to do things, especially considering the AOC fiasco. Mythic should know better than this. Me and my Archmage have gone from "Eager Fan" to "Wary Customer" and will now apply a Wait and See approach to this game

The funny thing is , if AOC still wasn t out and months away, no one would even mention this as a problem. I understand your concerns, but this is average for most AAA MMOs. Just because AOC had a sub par product and well was hiding alot from it s future customer base does not mean Mythic is doing the same. First of all Mythic has let us testers test EVERYTHING, second they have let people know well in advance what they re adding or deleting for the released product. There has never been a time in the development of WAR especially now where i ve said, the game seems cool but what about this feature etc. They have told us everything we need to know. Bottom line is this is not AOC or FC, it s Mythic and they have been completely open with their product.

Yes true. I can assure you in that time you could play all classes on both factions and know if you like the game, and what classes/faction you like. It s plenty of time trust me on this :)

This is plenty of time, but what do ya do. Some people are going to be a little scared after AOC, and i can understand that. Wait and see the ones cancelling will be the ones praising it first after it releases. When NDA lifts i ll tell you more why this will happen. Anyways, we ll see what happens but i can assure you that with me beta experience i won t be cancelling anything :)

I have played at least 15 MMOs lost count along time ago honestly. LOTRO is by far the best community i ve seen, and not by a little amount, i m talking a huge amount :) All in all the game is hugely enjoyable because 1 it s a great game and 2 the community.
